TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD THE SQUEAKING NOISE AND A POP SOUND FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE SEAT THEN BROKE, PUSHING HER TOWARD THE STEERING WHEEL AND INJURING HER AS WELL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.
DRIVERS SIDE SEAT FRAME SNAPPED COMPLETELY IN HALF. THIS IS THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE CAR AND SHOULD NOT BREAK WITH NO REASON. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS. THE SEAT IS VERY LOOSE AND THEREFORE VERY UNSAFE. IT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSE EXCESSIVE INJURY IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED AS THERE IS NO SUPPORT TO KEEP THE SEAT FROM MOVING. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND SEEMS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
SUN VISOR ON 2006 NISSAN MURANO BECAME LOOSE AND NOW CONSTANTLY DROPS DOWN INTO FIELD OF VIEW WHILE DRIVING AT SLIGHT BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THIS NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE CAR HITS A SMALL BUMP, AND PARTIALLY OBSCURES VISION. *TR
POWER STEERING LINE DEVELOPED A LEAK AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME CONDITION ONLINE. NISSAN WAS NO HELP. IF NOT NOTICED, POWER STEERING WOULD HAVE FAILED. *TR
SEAT BROKE HAD WELDED NO 4 CYLINDER RAN LEAN HAD TO REPLACE PISTON MELTED RAN OUT OF OIL NO WARNING LIGHT. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR ON THE OUR 2006 NISSAN MURANO IS VERY LOOSE AND OFTEN FALLS DOWN, OBSCURING THE DRIVERS VISION OF THE ROAD. *TR
DRIVER VISOR DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE KEEPING SUN OUT OF DRIVER'S EYES. IT EITHER DOES NOT HOLD IN PLACE AT ALL OR DROPS SUDDENLY TO BLOCK VISIBILITY. *TR
FRONT RIGHT BEARING FAILURE. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR OF 2006 NISSAN MURANO DROPS DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND IS STARTLING TO THE DRIVER. WHEN IT DROPS DOWN IT ALSO IMPAIRS VISION. IT CAN DROP 2-3 TIMES WITHIN A 2 MILE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY. IT WILL NOT STAY IN IT'S UPRIGHT POSITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BANKSTON NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN LEWISVILLE, TX, AND WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE VISOR BECAUSE IT WAS CONSIDERED "COSMETIC" AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN CALLED NISSAN'S CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. THE CAR IS ONLY 4 YRS. OLD AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE COST TO REPLACE THE SUN VISOR WOULD BE $458.00. WHEN I WENT ONLINE TO TRY AND FIND A LESS EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT VISOR I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, FROM AT LEAST AS FAR BACK AS 2004. THE VISOR HAS TO BE DEFECTIVE AND NISSAN SHOULD ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING IT. THIS SUN VISOR, IN IT'S PRESENT CONDITION, CAN BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CAUSING AN AUTO ACCIDENT. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS ON THE 2006 NISSAN MURANO, ON 5/29/10 MY GRANDMOTHER AND MYSELF GOT INTO THE VEH WHEN I TURNED THE VEH ON THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND SAW NOTHING I GOT BACK IN AND CHECKED THE DASHBOARD TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY MAINTENANCE ISSUE AND SAW NOTHING. AS WE WERE GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE MY GRANDMOTHER STATED SHE FELT HEAT ON THE AREA OF THE ARMREST. I CAME INSIDE FOR NO MORE THAN 5 MINS AND WHEN I CAME BACK OUT THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE BETWEEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATS I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AS A RESULT OF THIS FIRE THE VEH WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I HAVE PICS OF THE AFTERMATH SHOWING THAT THE TRUNK HATCH MELTED AND THAT THE INTERIOR WAS NOTHING BUT THE FRAME. UP UNTIL 5/29/10 THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WHEN THERE IS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE A GREEN WRENCH POPS UP ON THE DASHBOARD SCREEN AND THE ONLY TIME THAT POPPED UP WAS WHEN THE TIRE ROTATION MAINTENANCE WAS DUE. THE ONLY MAINTENANCE THAT I HAVE HAD DONE ON THE VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASING ON 11/07/10 WAS AN OIL CHANGE, THE OTHER SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WAS FOR 4/17/10 FOR A TIRE ROTATION WHICH WAS NOT DONE BECAUSE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN PUT DOWN FOR AN OIL CHANGE WHICH WAS NOT NEEDED, I HAD SCHEDULED THIS APPT ONLINE AND IT WAS ALSO CONFIRMED ONLINE WHAT I WAS COMING IN TO HAVE DONE. THE MECHANIC DID AN OIL CHANGE AND I EXPLAINED TO HIM I WAS NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE HE TOLD ME THE 2 TIRES WOULD SOON NEED TO BE REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE THEREFORE THERE WAS NO NEED TO ROTATE AN HE RESET THE MONITOR ON THE VEH. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE MGR OF NISSAN PASSPORT TO DISCUSS THE DAMAGES TO THE VEH AND HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO SPEAK WITH NISSAN ABOUT THE MANUFACTURING. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SPEAK WITH A CONSUMER AFFAIRS REP SINCE ABOUT 6/3/10, WHEN I CALL I AM PLACED ON HOLDAM PLACED OVER 20 MINUTES AND STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FILE A COMPLAINT. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MURANO. FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS THERE WAS A SQUEAK IN MY CAR, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY SEAT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS MORNING, I GOT IN AND MY DRIVERS SEAT WAS LEANING TO THE LEFT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANT $1100 TO FIX IT, SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. THEY SAID THAT THE SEAT FRAME IS BROKEN. *TR
SIMILAR COMPLAINT RE: DRIVER'S SEAT ON 2006 NISSAN MURANO. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE CAR USED (1 MONTH AGO). THE SEAT, AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTS FOR THE DRIVER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON AND HAS BEEN OPERATING WITHOUT CONCERN. TODAY, THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAME OFF TRACK WITHOUT WARNING, NOW LEANS WAY TO THE LEFT AND IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. I DROVE IT HOME AND WILL TAKE IT TO DEALER TOMORROW. I DID CALL NISSAN RE: RECALL AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NO RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE DESPITE THE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I INTEND TO DO WHAT I CAN TO ENSURE IT IS ADDRESSED BY NISSAN AND THE REPAIRS MADE. *TR
OPERATING MY 2006 NISSAN MURANO ON THE ROADWAY WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN POP AND SNAP NOISE FROM BENEATH THE DRIVERS SEAT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. THE DRIVERS SEAT KNOW IS LOOSE AND TILTS TO THE LEFT AND IS VERY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY WHEN CORNERING. I WENT TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT RAIL HAD BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AT A COST OF $1200.. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I LEARNED THAT I AM AMONG MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS BROKEN SEAT RAIL SYNDROME. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE BRACKET WHICH NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND A CORRECTIVE NOTICE ISSUED TO NISSAN OF MA. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WILL FALL DOWN TO COMPLETELY DOWN POSITION, COMPLETELY BLOCKING VIEW OF ROAD. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN VISOR IS IN THE COMPLETELY UP POSITION. A PREVIOUS OWNER HAS REPLACED THE VISOR FOR THE SAME ISSUE BEFORE. *TR

THIS IS SO PATHETIC ENGINEERING DESIGN AND NISSAN DIDN'T STEP UP FOR A RECALL. IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND ALMOST HAD AN INCIDENCE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED, THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT WOULD NEED TO BE RE-WELDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I AM WRITING ABOUT THE SUN VISOR ON MY NISSAN MURANO 2006. IT DROP AND COVERS MY EYES AND ITS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF POSTS ONLINE WHERE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THESE. ITS REALLY DANGEROUS. *TR
DRIVER SEAT ON 2006 NISSAN MURANO DROPPED AND SHIFTED ABRUPTLY CAUSING ME TO TEMPORARILY LOOSE CONTROL AND CROSS THE CENTER LINE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY 15 IN VIRGINIA. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND GET BACK INTO MY LANE BEFORE A COLLISION. SUBSEQUENT EXAMINATION OF THE SEAT REVEALED A HINGED CONNECTING MEMBER AT THE REAR LEFT SECTION OF THE SEAT FRAME OF THE 10 WAY POWER DRIVER'S SEAT HAD FAILED CAUSING THE SEAT TO FALL AND SHIFT TO THE LEFT. FREDERICK NISSAN IDENTIFIED PART NUMBER 87450-CA66A AS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE SEAT. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO NISSAN AMERICA AND WAS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
2006 NISSAN MURANO, DRIVERS SEAT BROKE AT LEFT REAR RAIL ATTACH POINT. THE SEAT NOW LEANS TO THE LEFT AND CAN BE PULLED UP BY HAND. THE SUPPORT BOLT THAT ATTACHES THE SEAT IS BROKEN, THE DEALERSHIP QUOTES $1200 TO REPAIR/REPLACE AND IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH A NEW ONE. THE DRIVERS' SEAT IN OUR 2006 NISSAN MURANO CAME UN-WELDED. THIS FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO ANY OUT OF THE ORDINARY USE AS THIS VEHICLE IS A DAILY DRIVER. WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 80K MILES ON THE CAR WHEN SUDDENLY OUR SEAT STARTED TO ROCK BACK AND FORTH IN A CADDY CORNER MOTION. DEALER SAID HE HAD SEEN ABOUT 60 OF THESE IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND OFFERED NO COMPLIMENTARY PART FOR REPLACEMENT. WE PURCHASED THE 100K MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO WE ONLY HAD TO PAY $50.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, A SEAT COMING UN-WELDED? 2006 NISSAN MURANO SL DRIVERS SEAT MOTOR FAILED IN CAR WITH 30,000 MILES ON IT. AS A RESULT, I CANNOT REACH THE GAS OR BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE PILLOWS TO GET ME TO THE PEDALS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN IN JULY 2010 AND ALSO IN JUNE 2011. RESEARCH ON CAR FORUMS SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT. THE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED - ESTIMATE IS $1200. AS I DROVE MY NISSAN MURANO OFF THE LOT THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WOULDN'T STAY IN PLACE. KEPT FALLING BLOCKING MY VIEW WHILE I AM DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAY THAT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY & THEY WILL REPLACE IT FOR $400 FOR A NEW ONE. I DID GET AN USED ONE SOMEWHERE ELSE & IT TOO DOING THE SAME THING. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) 2006 NISSAN MURANO S AWD VIN # [XXX]. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT THE END OF MARCH 2010. I SCHEDULED MY CAR TO BE LOOKED AT IN THE BEGINNING OF APRIL. PRIOR TO THE APPT, I NOTICED A MAJOR DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE 2 FUEL INSTRUMENT GAUGES. WHENEVER FUEL WOULD BE DOWN TO AROUND A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS, ONE OR BOTH OF THE GAUGES/ELECTRONIC DISPLAY WOULD SHOW ANY WHERE FROM 1/2 A TANK OF FUEL TO COMPLETELY EMPTY. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE IN APRIL, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FACTORY WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT, AND THAT MY AFTER MARKET WARRANTY PURCHASED FROM THAT DEALERSHIP, DIDN'T COVER THE REPAIR NEEDED. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND FUEL GAUGE/ELECTRONIC DISPLAY WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE 'FUEL SENDER'(FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT). I WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR(S) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT WITH PARTS AND LABOR, THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WOULD BE $450. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM MYSELF, I FOUND THAT NISSAN IS HAVING MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE IN OTHER MODELS THE SAME MODEL YEAR, 2006. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND FOUND THAT NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE ARE BEING TAKEN AT THIS TIME. I FEEL THAT GIVEN THE LARGE-SCALE RECALL (540,000 VEHICLES MOSTLY IN THE US) IN PLACE FOR SEVERAL OTHER MODELS, SAME YEAR, SAME PROBLEM, IT STANDS TO REASON THAT MY MODEL SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I HAVE NOT AS OF YET RUN OUT OF FUEL ON THE ROADWAY BUT THAT IS MAINLY DUE TO CONSTANTLY KEEPING THE TANK AT LEAST HALF FULL TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT MY EXPENSE IN HOPES THAT THE NHTSA WILL MAKE NISSAN EXTEND ITS RECALL, AS IT SHOULD. *TR

WHEN THE VISOR FLOPS DOWN THE VISION OF THE DRIVER BECOMES IMPAIRED. THE DRIVER CAN PUSH THE VISOR BACK UP INTO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION BUT THE VISOR WILL THEN JUST FLOP DOWN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE THE VISOR UNDER ANY WARRANTY. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IS EXPECTED TO PAY BETWEEN $400-$460 FOR A NEW VISOR REPLACEMENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MURANO WITH 29K MILES. WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS I FELT A POP IN MY DRIVER'S SEAT AND HEARD A METALLIC SOUND FROM UNDER THE SEAT. FROM THAT POINT FORWARD THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAS FELT UNSTABLE AND WOULD MOVE FREELY DURING TURNS AND NORMAL ACCELERATION/BRAKING. THIS INCIDENT SEEMS COMMON BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH AND IS REFERRED TO AS A BACK-LEFT LEANING PROBLEM. A TECHNICAL BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BUT NO RECALL. THE PROBLEM IS TRYING TO PUT GAS INTO MY VEHICLE THE NOZZLE ON THE GAS PUMP WILL SHUT OF AND SPIT GAS BACK TODAY I HAD A PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE GROUND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND MY HUSBAND REPEATEDLY HAVE REGISTERED A COMPLAINT WITH THE DEALER AND WITH THE NISSAN COMPANY DIRECTLY. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR, MODEL AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THEM TOO. YOU HAVE TO KEEP TURNING THE NOZZLE ON AND MOVING IT AROUND IN THE GAS TANK TRYING TO FIND A POSITION WHERE THE NOZZLE WON'T SHUT OFF OR SPIT THE GAS BACK AT YOU. 2006 NISSAN MURANO, AFTER DRIVING 85 MILES CONTINUOUSLY ON THE INTERSTATE, WHEN I SLOWED TO MERGE TO ANOTHER INTERSTATE LOST ALL POWER WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I WAS STOPPED WITH NO EMERGENCY LANE IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA AND WAS LUCKY TO HAVE AVOIDED THE OTHERS MERGING AND TRAVELING BY AT 70 M.P.H.! IT EVENTUALLY GAVE ME SOME POWER WHICH I USED TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE AND CALLED THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER IN DES MOINES. I WAS ABLE TO "LIMP" THE CAR THE 20 MINUTE DRIVE ON BACK ROADS IN DES MOINES WHERE WITHIN AN HOUR, THE DEALER TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER NISSAN EXTENDS THE WARRANTY ON THIS TRANSMISSION AND I HAVE A FAILED ONE, IT STRIKES ME THAT A REPAIR/RECALL SHOULD BE DONE ON THESE BEFORE AN INCIDENT LIKE MINE OCCURS. I HAD THREE CHILDREN IN THE CAR, WITH OTHER CARS RACING BY ME AT HIGH SPEEDS, AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED.
