HELLO, I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE MY 2006 NISSAN MURANO SL AWD HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST DAMAGE BEING ONLY 12 (ALMOST 13) YEARS OLD. I PUT HOURS OF RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND MY VEHICLE IS NOT ALONE IN THIS. MY ARGUMENT IS THAT NISSAN SHOULD HAVE STRENGTHENED THESE SUBFRAMES BECAUSE A 12-13 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE A BACK END DROP OUT OF IT BECAUSE OF SALT. I LIVE IN OHIO AND WE GET ABOUT 1-3 MONTHS OF SNOW AND OUR CITIES SALT A MODERATE AMOUNT. OTHER VEHICLE WE OWN/HAD (2001 FORD, 2002 FORD, 2005 FORD) HAVE RUST FROM THE SNOW BUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLES ARE INTACT AND SAFE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, THE NISSAN SUBFRAMES IN THESE MURANO'S ARE FAILING AND ENDANGER DRIVERS AROUND THE VICTIM'S CAR. PERSONALLY, I CAN HANDLE A CAR THAT LOSES CONTROL EVEN WHEN CARS ARE NEXT TO ME, BUT THIS STILL PUTS MYSELF AND VEHICLES AROUND ME IN DANGER. JUST RECENTLY MY CAR WAS DRIVING FINE AND WITH NO ICE ON THE ROAD (9:00PM ON A 47 DEGREE RAINY DAY) MY VEHICLE WOBBLES FROM THE BACK END AND VEERS RIGHT WHILE I AM ON HE HIGHWAY. I ADVISE THAT NISSAN TAKE ACTION AND RECALL THE 2006 NISSAN MURANO BECAUSE THEIR SUBFRAMES ARE NOT BUILT TO LAST NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OF SNOW AND SALT THAT PEOPLE IN THE NORTH ARE SUBJECTED TO. I UNDERSTAND SALT IS CORROSIVE AND DETERIORATE THE CARS FASTER BUT THIS CAR IS A LUXURY CAR AND SHOULD BE BUILT TO LAST LONGER THAN MY 2002 FORD FOCUS HAS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. ALSO MAY I ADD THAT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THIS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ALIGN THE CAR AND STATED THAT THE 'RUSTED OUT' SUBFRAME WILL BREAK IF HE ATTEMPTS TO FREE THE PARTS NEEDED TO ALIGN THE REAR OF THE CAR. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BECAME SHAKY AND WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL NEARLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO GO OFF THE ROAD. DRIVER TOOK THE VEHICLE TOOK VEHICLE TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME HAD NEARLY RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH.

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 414-586-5400 WHERE IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, I HEARD A CRACK UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE. AFTERWARDS THE SEAT NOW ROCKS BACK AND FORTH AND LIFTS UP WHEN MAKING TURNS. I HAVE SEARCHED ALL OVER THE WEB AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH NISSAN DRIVERS SIDE SEATS ON SOME OF THEIR VEHICLES TO THE POINT THAT THEY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FACT THAT NISSAN IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. I DRIVE A 2006 NISSAN MURANO AND IT ONLY HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT. THE DRIVERS SEAT OF MY 2006 NISSAN MURANO CRACKED AT THE WELD IN THE FRAME CAUSING THE SEAT TO DROP AT A STEEP ANGLE IN THE BACK. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS GETTING IN THE VEHICLE RATHER THAN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AS IT SURELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNDRIVEABLE SITUATION. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER CONCURRED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR, NOR THE COST OF REPLACEMENT TRANSPORTATION WHILE THE APPROPRIATE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED WHICH SPANNED SEVERAL DAYS. BOTH SCREWS HOLDING TAILGATE LATCH TO VEHICLE FRAME FAILED IN >20K MILES LEAVING TAILGATE SECURED BY > 1/4" OF PLASTIC INTERIOR TRIM WHICH IS SECURED BY 3 PLASTIC SNAP CONNECTORS. FAILED SCREWS WERE CONNECTED TO THREADED METAL BASE IN ENCLOSED BOX FRAME MEMBER. ONLY FIX WAS TO CUT BOX, RECOVER BASE AND RE-ATTACH SCREWS AND WELD COVER OVER CUT. *TR

I OWN A 2006 NISSAN MURANO WITH APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES. I WEIGH 160 POUNDS AND DO 95% OF MY DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THE FRAME SUPPORTING THE DRIVER SEAT CRACKED CAUSING THE SEAT TO BECOME UNSTABLE AND CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. AS A RESULT, I HAVE TO KEEP THE SEAT IN THE LOWEST POSSIBLE POSITION, OTHERWISE IT BECOMES HIGHLY UNSTABLE. THE DEALER ESTIMATED THE REPAIRS AT $1,035. THE RESULT OF MY RESEARCH OF THIS DEFECT DISCLOSED THAT IT IS A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR 2006 NISSAN MURANOS. HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, THEY RESPONDED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT AND THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR ANY PORTION OF THE REPAIR. *TR

ON 12/12/08, I SAT IN THE SEAT AND THE FRAME BROKE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT NOW ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHENEVER YOU TURN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS YOUR FEET WILL COME OFF THE GAS OR BREAK WHENEVER YOU TURN. I WENT ON THE WEB, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL PUBLIC FORUMS FROM MURANO OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT TAKE ANY ANY ACTION. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WILL ONLY REPLACE THE WHOLE SEAT FOR $1,200.00 AND NOT TRY TO FIX THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. IF THEY WANT YOU TO BUY A WHOLE NEW SEAT, WHAT IS TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN? UNACCEPTABLE. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THIS SEAT, BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
