SECOND COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM - CALIPERS AND DISCS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT A PIN WAS FRACTURED IN THE ACCELERATION BOX AND REPAIRS WERE MADE ACCORDINGLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT RETRIEVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER OUT OF FEAR THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,000.
I AM EXPERIENCING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO. I AM NOTIFYING THE NHTSA OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. I AM STUNNED THAT NISSAN HAS BEEN SO CARELESS WITH MY SAFETY, ESPECIALLY IN THE WAKE OF THE TOYOTA DEBACLE. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE'S MAKE AND MODEL FOR ITS FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS). THE NISSAN RECALL NUMBER IS 09V393000, WHICH STATES THAT THE TPMS IS FLAWED AND PRONE TO CORROSION AND FAILURE DUE TO A FAULTY NUT USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE RECALL AFFECTS VEHICLES IN NORTHERN STATES WHERE THE SALTY ROADS EXCESSIVELY CORRODES THE NUT USED TO MANUFACTURE THE 2009 TPMS, AT WHICH POINT "THE TIRE WILL QUICKLY LOSE AIR PRESSURE AT A CONSISTENT RATE RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH," ACCORDING TO THE NISSAN RECALL. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL UNTIL MY CAR FAILED INSPECTION RECENTLY. NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT HAS DENIED SERVICE TO MY VEHICLE. THEY CLAIM THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOESN'T APPLY TO THE RECALL. AFTER INSPECTING MY CAR, IRA NISSAN IN TEWKSBURY, MA STATED IN ITS REPORT THAT MY VEHICLE IS CLEARLY AFFECTED BY THE TPMS DEFECT. NISSAN HEADQUARTERS STATES MY VEHICLE WAS NOT MANUFACTURED WITH THE NUT IN QUESTION - THE NUT THAT THE COMPANY HAS PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGED IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED. MY RESPONSE? THEN THE EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THIS ISSUE IS MUCH LARGER IN SCOPE THAN THIS ONE NUT FROM THIS ONE VENDOR. NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEY HAVE A LARGER ISSUE ON THEIR HANDS. PERHAPS THERE WERE MULTIPLE VENDORS THAT PROVIDED OTHER FLAWED NUTS IN THE TPMS. OR PERHAPS THE NUT IS NOT THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AT ALL. WHATEVER THE CASE, THIS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THIS FLAW AFFECTS THE TIRES - A CRITICAL PIECE TO THE SAFETY OF ANY VEHICLE. THE SAFETY OF THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS IS AT STAKE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 09V393000 (TIRES: PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 55,000.

AFTER SHIFTING GEAR IN THE 2009 NISSAN MURANO FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE OR REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE CAR CONTINUES TO ROLL IN PREVIOUS GEAR EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE OTHER DRIVER FAILED TO YIELD AND WE CRASHED,THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND WHEN I CAME TO I HEARD MY SON SCREAMING THEN I TRIED TO OPEN DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN THE UNLOCK BUTTON DID NOT WORK EITHER NOR DID THE WINDOW. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN. CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY ISSUE. HAS HAPPENED FOUR MORE TIMES. FOUND THAT THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL INTERLOCK WHICH SHUTS DOWN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR
THE REAR LIFT GATE ON MY 2009 MURANO IS LOCKED AND WON'T OPEN WITH ANY KEY OR SWITCH. SEARCHED ON LINE AND IT APPEARS THERE IS AN ISSUE BETWEEN THE POWER LIFTGATE AND THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS THAT CAN LOCK OUT BOTH. *TW
THE RACK AND PINION AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL OF MY 2009 MURANO LE IS DEFECTIVE. THE RACK AND PINION HAS STOPPED WORKING TWICE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ON THE CAR HAS ALSO FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE STEERING PUMP HAS ALSO STOPPED WORKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL 2008 AND HAS HAD DOCUMENTED STEERING PROBLEMS SINCE. THE DEALERSHIP (KOPPEL NISSAN) HAS GIVEN ME A HARD TIME AND NISSAN HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. THIS STEERING PROBLEM CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO STOP WORKING AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WERE MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN ALMOST HIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT THE RACK AND PINION ARE ON BACK ORDER MAY INDICATE THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MECHANICS TO SUBMIT A LEMON CLAIM TO THE STATE OF NY. I HAVE INQUIRED WITH BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURE WITH NO SUCCESS. I APPROACHING THE STATUTE OF LIMITATION UNDER THE NY LEMON LAW AND FEAR THAT REPAIRING THE RACK AND PINION AND STEERING PUMP WILL NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FILE A CLAIM. WITH EVERYTHING THAT IS GOING ON WITH TOYOTA I FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT TO REACH OUT TO YOU SO THAT YOU CAN ALERT OTHERS WHO MAY BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO PURCHASED JUNE 2008. THE VEHICLE CAME EQUIPPED WITH RAIN SENSITIVE WIPERS WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO SET ITSELF BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF RAIN. HE STATED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY AND WOULD STOP. HE ALSO STATED IN LIGHT RAINS, THE WIPERS WOULD OPERATE AS IF THERE WERE HEAVY RAINS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 20,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I BOUGHT A USED NISSAN MURANO 2006 AT 52000 MILES. VERY PLEASED WITH THE CAR OVERALL, A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER MY SEAT STARTED MAKING VERY SQUEAKY NOISE. UNTIL YESTERDAY I KEPT DRIVING HAVING NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON. ON MY WAY TO WORK MY DRIVER SEAT SNAPPED ON THE LEFT SIDE. I ALMOST CRASHED BECAUSE IT HAPPENED SO SUDDENLY. APPARENTLY THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE NISSAN DEFECTIVE SEAT BUT THE DEALER SAID THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS. THE PART ALONE IS ABOUT 800$ TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NOT EVEN OCCURRED EVER. *TR
2009 NISSAN SUV MURANO / NEW CAR APROX. 8 MONTHS OLD KEY DEFECTIVE AND OR TRANSMISSION DEFECTIVE : WHEN YOU PULL OUT THE KEY AND FORGET TO PUT THE AUTO TRANSMISSION IN PARK THE TRANSMISSION (DOSE NOT LOCK). THEREFORE, WHEN YOU LEAVE THE AUTO, THE CAR CAN ROLL! THERE IS A SLIGHT BEEPER TONE, WHICH SOMETIME DOSE NOT WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE OR IN THE REVERSE GEAR, THE VEHICLE ROLLS FORWARD. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400.
THE VEHICLE CVT BECOMES UNSTABLE. VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY LOSES POWER AT TIMES. GOT OFF HIGHWAY RAMP AND CAME TO A NORMAL STOP. STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR TO MOVE INTO TRAFFIC. VEHICLE HESITATED AND CRAWLED SLOWLY INTO TRAFFIC FOR 5 TO 10 SECONDS BEFORE SURGING FORWARD WITH ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR. NEARLY T-BONED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. HAVE GONE THROUGH 4 TRANSMISSIONS SO FAR AND THE DEALERSHIP IS CONTEMPLATING ANOTHER REPLACEMENT. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE ANOTHER TRANSMISSION WILL FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE THE SAME DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE KEEPS SHOWING UP TOTALLY WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
PURCHASED CAR NEW IN MAY 2008. BATTERY WENT DEAD AFTER NOT BEING DRIVEN IN FEB 2009. JUMPED BATTERY AND DISCUSSED WITH DEALER. WAS TOLD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY IF CAR WAS NOT GOING TO BE DRIVEN FOR 2 WEEKS. DID THIS BUT BATTERY DIED AGAIN IN JUNE 2009. TOOK CAR TO DEALER; THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. BATTERY DIED AGAIN IN MARCH 2010 (MILEAGE 9,208). DEALER PUT IN A NEW BATTERY. IN MAY 2011, BATTERY DIED AGAIN(MILEAGE 15,527) . HAD DISCONNECTED BATTERY DURING A VACATION, WHEN THE CAR WAS SITTING, AND IT STARTED UPON RETURN BUT DIED 3 DAYS LATER. WENT TO DEALER AND THEY KEPT CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS, ATTEMPTING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY DISCONNECTED THE CAR ALARM, AND ASSURED ME THEY WOULD STAND BY THE CAR IF THIS HAPPENED AFTER 3 YR. WARRANTY EXPIRED. RETURNED FROM VACATION IN OCT 2011 AND AGAIN THE BATTERY WOULD NOT START THE CAR (MILEAGE 17,760). DEALER INSTALLED ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. JUNE 2014 THE CAR DIED AGAIN AFTER SITTING FOR 3 DAYS. DEALER WILL NOT ACCEPT PROBLEM WITH CAR AND/OR BATTERY AND WILL CHARGE A DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. SINCE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE PROBLEM OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, AM RELUCTANT TO PAY THEM AGAIN. HAVE FILED COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO RESPONSE TO DATE. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 NISSAN MURANO IN JANUARY OF 2009. AFTER 5 MONTHS OF USE AND 7000 MILES THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS SENT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND NO PROBLEM COULD NOT BE LOCATED AND THE LIGHT WAS RESET. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND AN ADDITIONAL PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND WE TOLD THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND IT COULD TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO 6 MONTHS FOR THE PART TO COME IN. EVEN IF THIS WAS THE PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP THINKS THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK. THE NATURE OF THIS MALFUNCTION AND THE UNAVAILABILITY OF PARTS FOR REPAIR MIGHT CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR OTHER CONSUMERS. *TR
ON INCLINE, VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS WHILE IN FORWARD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GEAR IF YOU DON'T HAVE FOOT ON BRAKE. NISSAN SERVICE SAYS IT IS THE NEW TRANSMISSION THAT ALLOWS THIS TO HAPPEN. THIS WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS. *TR

I RECENTLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE A 2009 NISSAN MURANO EQUIPPED WITH THEIR "SMART KEY". SIMILARLY, I ALSO DROVE A 2007 LEXUS GS WITH A "SMART KEY". I HAVE FOUND THAT BOTH VEHICLES CAN BE SHUT OFF AND EXITED WITH WHILE IT IS INADVERTENTLY LEFT IN THE "PARK" TRANSMISSION POSITION. ALTHOUGH A BARELY AUDIBLE CHIME RINGS, A DRIVER CAN EXIT THE VEHICLE AND IF THE VEHICLE IS ON AN INCLINE, IT CAN ROLL FREELY!! I AM ASTOUNDED THAT THERE ARE NO "NEUTRAL SAFETY" CONTROLS ON THESE NEW VEHICLES. STANDARD KEY IGNITIONS PREVENT THE DRIVER FROM RELEASING THE KEY IN ANY POSITION EXCEPT "PARK" ... NOT SO WITH THESE NEW "SMART KEY" CARS! I FORESEE MANY ACCIDENTS OCCURRING UNLESS SOME CORRECTION IS MADE IN THIS "OPTION". I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A GOVERNMENT VEHICLE SAFETY CHECK WOULD OVERLOOK THIS FLAW. *TR
SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF DEPENDING ON WHETHER OR NOT I'VE FILLED THE CAR WITH GAS OR OPENED/CLOSED THE LIFT GATE. I'VE TAKEN IT IN TO NISSAN AND THEY CAN RESET IT BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT. IT EVENTUALLY GOES OUT AGAIN. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE FUEL CAP OFF AND THEN PLACE IT BACK ON AND THEN IF THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT GO OUT THEN OPEN AND CLOSE THE LIFT GATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AT NIGHT, ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO MAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE HEADLIGHTS RE-ACTIVATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE WIPER WASHER AND DIMMER SWITCH WERE REPLACED UNDER THE FACTORY SERVICE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 609 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,350. UPDATED 1/5/09 *CN UPDATED 01/09/09. *JB
I OWN A 2009 NISSAN MURANO S . IT COMES WITH PUSH BUTTON "START/STOP" ENGINE (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE "INTELLIGENT SYSTEM". TO START THE ENGINE, YOU MUST HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT THE KEY FOB IN THE SLOT, AND PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON..... THE DANGER IS WHEN YOU PARK THE CAR IN YOUR GARAGE...AND FORGET TO PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF... BECAUSE THIS TECHNOLOGY IS NEW, THE INSTINCT IS TO PULL THE KEY FOB OUT AND GET OUT OF THE CAR... THE ENGINE REMAINS ON AND IT IS QUIET ENOUGH THAT YOU DO NOT NOTICE THE ENGINE RUNNING... DAMP PATCHES APPEARED ON THE ORIGINAL ALU RIM 20'. IT HAPPENED APP. 3 MONTHS AFTER USING MY NEW CAR. I HAVE REPORTED THIS FACT TO SERVICE DURING MAINTENANCE, BUT I WAS BRUSHED OFF (IT WAS MY FILLING). ADDITIONALLY THE MIDDLE HOLES HAVE SHARP MARKS AFTER ROTATING AND BALANCE IN DEALER SERVICE. I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT ALL WORKS WITH WHEELS AND TIRES HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED IN SERVICE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS FACT TOO, BUT WITHOUT EFFECT. BECAUSE ORIGINAL SURFACE OR ALU RIMS WAS SO EASY CHANGED COLOR (PERMANENTLY) I ASSUME THAT QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED TO PRODUCE THIS PART OF RIMS ARE VERY POOR AND IN EFFECT IT CAN BE REASON SOME INCIDENTS CONNECTED WITH BROKEN RIMS. OF COURSE MY CAR IS STILL IN WARRANTY AND I HOPE THAT NISSAN WILL AGREE TO CHANGE BROKEN RIMS IN MY CAR ASAP TO AVOID ANY DISASTERS. *TR
THE START/STOP IGNITION BUTTON ON MY VEHICLE IF ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE AND ALL POWER EQUIPMENT. AT FIRST I DID NOT REALIZE I ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED THE BUTTON WHILE DRIVING, I TESTED IT SEVERAL TIMES UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES AND IT SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN EVERY TIME. UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS BUT ESPECIALLY HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT WOULD CERTAINLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS LEASED ON JULY 15TH WITH NO RESPONSE, I HAVE ALSO CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS ALSO WITH NO RESPONSE AND I HAVE WRITTEN A LETTER OF COMPLAINT TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WITH A CERTIFIED COPY TO THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY IN WASHINGTON, DC. IN THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR MY VEHICLE THERE IS A PRINTED WARNING NOT TO DEPRESS THE START/STOP IGNITION BUTTON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AS IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY. THIS INDICATES TO ME THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT AND IN MY CASE NEVER EXPLAINED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN. IN SPEAKING TO THE SALES MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP HE ADMITTED HE DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MURANO. WHEN THE CONTACT IS WITHIN 3 FEET OF THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR UNLOCKS. WHEN SHE TOUCHES THE HANDLE, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR UNLOCKS. SHE CALLED THE DEALER, SERVICE MANAGER, AND OWNER OF THE SALES LOT, AND THEY ALL STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. SHE THEN CALLED NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA AND THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD NO INFORMATION RELATED TO THE FAILURE, AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE ARE TECHNICIANS WHO HANDLE SERVICE ISSUES OF THAT NATURE, BUT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE THE NUMBER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 6,000.
THE SUNROOF IN MY 2009 NISSAN MURANO LE STOPPED WORKING (WOULDN'T OPEN) JUST 3 WEEKS AFTER TAKING DELIVERY. NEITHER THE DEALER OR NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE COULD TELL WHEN A REPLACEMENT PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. IT IS IN BACK ORDER AND FOR THE PAST 2.5 WEEKS THE STATUS OF THE INFORMATION IS THE SAME I.E. THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN ON AN INCLINE LARGE OR SMALL. I HAVE TO PRESS THE GAS AND THE BRAKE AS IF I'M DRIVING A MANUAL IN ORDER TO KEEP FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS. I HAD OTHER SUVS AND NEVER EVEN HAD TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE. I'VE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL FOR VEHICLES WITH CVT. MY HUSBAND ASKED WHY HIS MAXIMA DIDN'T DO THE SAME THING SINCE IT IS CVT AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW. *TR
