FRONT BUMPER, HOOD, AND REAR TRUCK. NAR 06/18/2003. *MR *CB
I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND IN THE PROCESS THE OIL DIPSTICK HANDLE BROKE. WHEN I NOTIFIED NISSAN, I WAS INFORMED BY A SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH NISSANS. WE TRIED TO RETRIEVE THE OIL DIPSTICK BUT TO NO AVAIL. SO I CALLED NISSAN AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND HE INFORMED ME, THE OIL PAN WOULD HAVE TO BE DROPPED AND "ONLY" A NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD PERFORM THE JOB. THE NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST $200.00 TO REPAIR. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED ME DURING OUR CONSERVATION, T THEY WERE DROPPING THE OIL PAN ON SEVERAL NISSAN'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM , A BROKEN OIL DIPSTICK. I THINK IT IS UNFAIR FOR THE CONSUMER TO PAY $200.00 TO HAVE AN OIL DIPSTICK REMOVED WHEN THE MATERIAL OR PART IS SUBSTANDARD INITIALLY. BASICALLY WHAT NISSAN IS SAYING IS, WHEN I GET AN OIL CHANGE THERE IS A "GREAT" POSSIBILITY THE OIL DIPSTICK WILL BREAK. *JB
MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH 2001 SENTRA. STEERING HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY TIGHTER. DEALER CLAIMS NO PROBLEM. CRUNCHING NOISE FROM SHOCKS/STRUTS WHEN DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS OR WHEN EXITING DRIVEWAY ONTO ROAD (UNEVEN PAVEMENT). WORSE WHEN COLD. DEALER CLAIMS NO PROBLEM. BRAKES MAKE SCRAPING NOISE WHEN APPLIED. WORSE WHEN COLD. CAR HAS BECOME VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVE - TIGHT/DIFFICULT STEERING AND NOISY SUSPENSION. DRIVES LIKE A 10 YEAR OLD CHEVY INSTEAD OF A 2 YEAR OLD JAPANESE CAR. I SHOULD HAVE KEPT MY HONDA!!!*JB
REAR STRUT NOISE/VIBRATION CONTINUES AFTER SEVERAL SERVICE ATTEMPTS. FIRST SERVICE IN FEBRUARY 2001 DEALER REPLACED RIGHT REAR STRUT. NOISE/VIBRATION CONTINUES. IN, 2003 NOISE GET LOUDER GOING OVER BUMPS AND ROUGH ROAD. DEALER REPLACED REAR STRUT MOUNT 2/6/2003. THIS WAS INEFFECTIVE AS NOISE/VIBRATION CONTINUES. UNSURE OF VEHICLE SAFETY AT THIS POINT.
THE CONSUMER HIT A VEHICLE IN FRONT DUE TO THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING UP AND A POSSIBILITY OF NO FRONT BRAKES. SCC PH
RIGHT REAR WHEEL LOCKS AND DOES NOT ROTATE, AT TIMES, NOT ALL OF THE TIME. DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. SAYS, "PROBABLY THE CHANGES IN THE WEATHER." STARTED IN DECEMBER, 2002, AND IS CONTINUEING TO DATE.
11/28/2002 ABOARD CAMP PENDLETON DRIVING APPROX. 25MPH, RIGHT FRONT OEM ALLOY RIM BLEW OFF "UNIFORMATIVELY" 1 INCH OUTWARD FROM CENTER OF RIM, LOWER SUSPENSION BALL JOINT CAME APART, VEHICLE SMASHED DOWN IN ROAD. (I HAVE A VIDEO TAPE OF ACCIDENT TO SHOW MY CAR FELL IN THE ROAD, WITH NO OUTSIDE FORCE CAUSING ACCIDENT LIKE MANUFACTURE CLAIMS)
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES TO THE VEHICLE WERE NOT WORKING ,CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO HIT ANOTHER VEHCILE. PH
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING AND THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER WHILE TRAVELING THAT SPEED AND TO GET ACROOS THE TRAFFIC SO I COULD PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO PAT PECK NISSAN IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI. THEY FIXED THE CAR AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS AND THEY SAID NO. AFTER I GOT HOME I LOOKED ON YOUR WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS FOR THE 2001 NISSAN SENTRA MANUFACTURED ON JANUARY 2000 THROUGH MAY 2001. THE MANUFACTURED DATE ON MY CAR IS APRIL OF 2001. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THAT MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IF MY CAR IS IN THE MANUFACTURED DATE WHY IT DOES NOT QUALIFY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, NOT ONLY ME BUT THE OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ENGINE CUT OFF, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING .*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND THERE WAS A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED AND THEN REMAINED LIT. MULTIPLE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, CHECKED THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES, AND INDICATED THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A NO CRANK TO START CONDITION, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 01V357000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE EXPERIENCED WAS THE SAME AS LISTED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGNS. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND HAD NOT VERIFIED IF THE PART WAS STILL AVAILABLE OR IF A NEWLY DESIGNED PART HAD BEEN DEVELOPED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW UT SIDE WALL WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. ENTIRE SIDEWALL SEPARATED.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN COMPLETLEY. AND ALSO THERE WERE NO BRAKES THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NLM
THE STEERING WHEEL MADE NOISE. ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND SHAKE WHILE MAKING A TURN WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE HITTING A CURB. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASION BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK *NLM
AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE TO CHANGE WHEELS AND VALVES CONSUMER HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH TIRES LOSING AIR . CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND CAUSE. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, 6OOO MILES. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE FRONT TIRES KEEP LOOSING AIR. *YH
WHEN A TURN WAS MADE, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL IMPACTED THE CURB. WHICH RESULTED IN THE PULLEY BOLT BREAKING. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, APPLIED BRAKES AND WITHOUT WARNING BRAKES FAILED, ESPECIALLY IN RAINY WEATHER. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. *SLC
ENGINE QUIT WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE WITHOUT WARNING. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. CAR HAD NO POWER. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. TOLD THAT CRANK POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS REPLACED AND THEN TOLD THAT VEHICLE WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND THAT THE WIRE HARNESS WAS BROKEN. THE COMPUTER AND WIRING WERE MOVING AROUND. WAITED FOR THIS PART FROM APRIL 24TH TO MAY 31ST. THIS PART WAS REPLACED ON JUNE 3RD AND WAS TOLD THAT ENGINE WOULD STILL NOT RUN. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR SINCE APRIL 22ND; PLEASE GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION.*AK
MY ENGINE FAILED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 70 MPHS ON THE FREEWAY, THE VERY DAY AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED FOR YET ANOTHER DEFECT SENSOR. IT WAS A MIRACLE I DID NOT CRASH AND KILL ANYONE INCLUDING MYSELF. EACH AND EVERY TIME I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN, I HAVE REQUESTED IT BE CHECKED FOR A SHORT IN THE WIRING. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD NO. I LATER LEARNED THAR MEANT IF IT DIDN'T SHOW UP ON THE COMPUTER, THEN THEY WOULDN'T LOOK FOR IT SPECIFICALLY. FOLLOWING THE LATEST HAZARD, I GOT IN NISSAN'S FACE. NISSAN FOUND A DEFECT OXYGEN SENSOR THIS TIME. UPON RETESTING THE VEHICLE, THE EMC (THE BRAIN OF THE VEHICLE) WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. I WAS ALSO TOLD HAD I DRIVEN THE CAR ANY LONGER, THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WOULD HAVE BLOWN TOO. WELL, THAT EXPLAINS ALL THE LOUSY GAS MILEAGE THIS PAST YEAR. SO, HERE IT IS A WEEK LATER AND MY VEHICLE REMAINS IN THE SHOP WITH A BACK ORDERED EMC WITH NO AVAILABLE STOCK DATE IN SIGHT. I AM RENTING A VEHICLE AND AM RECEIVING VERY LITTLE ASSISTANCE FROM NISSAN AS TO GETTING A RENTAL VEHICLE IN THE MEANTIME. I AM QUITE CONCERNED I HAVE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW SPANKING YELLOW LEMON. I AM QUITE CONCERNED THIS VEHICLE, EVEN WITH A NEW EMC, WILL PRODUCE OTHER DEFECTIVE SENSORS ONCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR FROM THE OLD ONE. THERE ARE 45 SENSORS IN THE VEHICLE AND ONLY 5-10 HAVE BLOWN SO FAR. I AM QUITE CERTAIN OTHERS ARE CLOSE TO FAILURE TOO. I AM JUST AS CONCERNED WHEN BOTH THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THIS PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER FOR A VERY LONG TIME AS SO MANY VEHICLES HAVE ENDURED THIS PROBLME, THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN RECALLED.
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WASTHE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG MODULE HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE. EACH TIME AFTER HAVING THE REPLACEMENT MADE A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER HE COULD SEE THE CORNERS OF THE AIR BAG LIFTING UP AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE AIR BAG WAS ACTUALLY REPLACED OR WHETHER THE ORIGINAL WAS REPAIRED POORLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG KEPT COMING UP IN THE SAME PLACE. AK UPDATED 03/07/07. *JB
CAR CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE AFTER FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE PEDAL. OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WAS EASILY MANAGED BY TAPPING THE BRAKE. BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR AND CARBON BUILD-UP WAS FOUND ON THE THROTTLE AND CLEANED UP. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS MORE DRAMATIC. I WAS ACCELERATING QUICKLY (4000+ RPM) FROM A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT 4000+ RPM. BRAKING HARD DID NOT STOP THE CAR, NOR DID IT STOP THE CONTINUED ACCELERATION. HAD TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULL OVER. ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AT 4000+ RPM, UNTIL IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. BROUGHT TO NISSAN SERVICE. THEY CHECKED THROTTLE PLATE AND CABLE BUT FOUND NO PROBLEM, AND CONDITION COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED IN THE WEEK SINCE, BUT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE. SHOULD THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM HAVE BEEN FIXED WITH OUT CHARGE? WHAT CAN I DO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN? THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE TO ME, AND COULD HAVE ENDED BADLY IF ONE OF MY KIDS HAD BEEN DRIVING INSTEAD OF ME.*AK

BRIDGESTONE, V381, P185/65R14, DOT V67JP300210, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2001, NISSAN, SENTRA WITH 24000 MILES. REAR PASSENGER TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE PARKED. SEAM WAS COMING APART WHERE TREAD AND SIDEWALL MEET. ON JANUARY 26, 2002 WHILE DRIVING 25-30 MPH, FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT DUE TO SEAM SEPARATING. NO INJURIES. BRIDGESTONE HAS REPLACED THE TIRES.*AK *TT
I REPORTED TO SERVICE MANAGER-ZEEK, SHEEHY NISSAN ANNAPOLIS, THAT THE CAR HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE UPON BRAKING, TO THE POINT OF JERKING TO A STOP, AND EVEN SLIDING AT LOW SPEEDS BELOW 40MPH. NO PROBLEM, THEY REPLACED FRONT BRAKE SHOES, AND TURNED ROTORS. I NOTICED LATELY THAT WHEN I BRAKE, I HEAR THIS DRY SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. I INTEND TO REPORT IT ALONG WITH THE ENGINE BELT SQUEAKING SOUNDS THIS WEEKEND. *AK
WHEN I REPORTED THAT THE CHIRPING/SQUEAKING SOUND HAD RETURNED (AROUND THE ENGINE BELTS) TO THE SERVICE DEPT. AT SHEEHY NISSAN IN ANNAPOLIS, THE SERVICE PERSON (MARY) SAID THAT, IF WE CAN'T RECREATE THE SOUND THE MECHANIC CAN'T FIX IT. I PROCEEDED TO TELL HER TO LOOK AT HER DATA BASE FOR DEC 2001, AND SHE WOULD SEE THAT IT HAS BEEN ONLY A MONTH AND THE SOUND IS BACK, BUT INTERMITENT, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER-ZEEK KNEW WHAT IT WAS AFTER THEY HAD CHANGED OUT THE (2) DEFECTIVE SENOR RECALL. SHE GOT IMPATIENT AND REPEATED THE SAME AGAIN TO ME, ABOUT RECREATING THE SOUND. NOT BEING VERY EDUCATED OR PATIENT WITH CUSTOMERS, BUT RUDE, ONLY SERVED TO UPSET ME FURTHER ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND THE COMPLACENT ATTITUDE I WAS UP AGAINST. I THOUGHT, I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME IF ONE OF THOSE BELTS GAVE OUT. ITS MY LIFE, NOT MARY' . I ALSO TOLD HER WHEN THE BELTS MAKE THAT SOUND, THE ENGINE HESTITATES. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO THIS "SERVICE EXPERT."*AK
APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT THE ENGINE QUIT. ENGINE CHECK WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO TUSTIN NISSAN AND THEY REPLACED THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I SAW A RECALL FOR 2000 SENTRA'S BUT NOT 2001.*AK
ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN BRAKING ON WET ROAD CONDITION VEHICLE WOULD SLIDE BEFORE STOPPING. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING THIS CONDITION ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEEDS AS WELL. *TT
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH AND WHEN TURNING BRAKE CALIPER LOCKED UP, AND CONSUMER HIT CURVE AND DROVE OVER IT. CONSUMER WAS COMPARING THE SITUATION WITH THE RECALL 01 V 174 000. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER, BUT PROBLEM STILL THERE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. AK
CLUTCH SWITCH IS FAULTY. VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER IT HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A WHILE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE IN FIRST GEAR VEHICLE WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF OR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
HEADREST WILL NOT STAY IN DOWN POSITION, IT KEEPS RISING UP, BLOCKING CONSUMER'S VIEW ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
BRAKES LOCKED AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEED, RESULTING IN AN UNNECCESARY CRASH DUE TO VEHICLE SKIDING. THE DISTANCE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLEANTY TO EFFECTIVELY STOP THE VEHICLE.*AK
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE ACCELERATOR SUDDENLY WENT TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO BRAKES, AND PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. DEALER HAS BEEN IN POSSESSION OF VEHICLE SINCE THIS INCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
THIS COMPLAINT HAS TO DO WITH THE FAILURE OF THE OIL STICK FOR THE 2001 NISSAN SENTRA. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN FOUR YEARS AND HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT OIL STICKS BREAK IN THAT TIME. THE FIRST TIME THE OIL STICK WAS BROKEN IT WAS EASILY REMOVED FROM THE STEM IT RESTS IN. ON THE LATEST BREAK IT HAS BECOME LODGED INSIDE THE STEM. FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER THE STANDARD FEE MOST MECHANICS AND DEALERSHIPS RANGE FROM $120.00 TO $300.00 FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE OIL STICK. THE PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE STICK IS THAT IT HAS A COMPLETELY PLASTIC HANDLE THAT EXTENDS FOR A WAYS BEFORE JOINING WITH THE METAL STICK. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE STICK BREAKS WELL ABOVE WHERE IT JOINS WITH THE METAL COMPONENT THEREFORE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE WITH A MAGNET. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED NUMEROUS TIMES ONLINE AND I SEE IT AS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN CONTINUES TO SELL THIS OIL STICK. FROM ONE ONLINE FORUM ALONE I CAME ACROSS OVER 60 REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING WITH A NISSAN OIL STICK AND ALMOST ALL OF THEM REFERRED TO EITHER A 2000 OR 2001 SENTRA. *TR

THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE CAR TRIED TO GET ME TO PAY FOR THE INHERENT PROBLEMS, BY SAYING THEY ARE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. SO I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY READILY REPLACED THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING. THEY SAID IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I TOOK ALL MY COMPLAINTS TO THE BBB IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND. ARBITRATION TOOK PLACE WITH NISSAN. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID, " ALL MY COMPLAINTS WERE COMMON FOR THE NISSAN SENTRA. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT MY COMPLAINTS ARE BEING CALLED "RECALLS" ONE BY ONE. THIS IS A TOTALLY UNSAFE CAR ON THE ROAD. IT IS ALSO MY 3RD NISSAN SENTRA OVER THE YEARS. THEIR PRODUCT HAS GONE DOWN HILL.*AK

WE WILL NOT REPLACE IT UNLESS THERE'S ATSB/RECALL FROM NISSAN". IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AS OTHER 2000-2001 SENTRA OWNERS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO PURCHASE THEIR SENTRAS FROM DEALERS WILLING TO DO THE REPAIRS (REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD MOLDING, ETC.) THE SAME PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN FOUND IN ALTIMAS. *AK
