I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. HAD TRUCK IN FOR TIRE ROTATION. SERVICE PERSON NOTICED REAR AXLE SEALS WERE LEAKING. EXPLAINED THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF FLUID LEAKING ON BRAKES. NISSAN SAID THEY WOULD NEED TO INSPECT AND PROBABLY REPLACE BRAKES WHEN FIXING SEALS, THUS ADMITTING THEY ARE UNSAFE.*JB
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY FAILED. NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPLACED DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY. *NM
BRIDGESTONE DUELER A/T 110S OEM EQUIPMENT ON NISSAN TITAN TRUCK. TIRE SIZE P245 75R 17. THESE TIRES ARE DELAMINATING. TREADS COMING OUT IN CHUNKS IN BELT CENTER. LOCAL DEALERS STATE THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE WARRANTY SERVICE FOR THESE TIRES. BRIDGESTONE TELEPHONE NUMBER ATTEMPTED 2 TIMES WITH HOLD TIMES OF GREATER THAN ONE HOUR WITHOUT EVER SPEAKING TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. EMAILED THE COMPANY NO RESPONSE. ANOTHER FORMER BRIDGESTONE DEALER IN KINGSTON TENNESSEE, JON LODEN AUTO CENTER STATES THE TIRES ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS . HE SUGGESTED I CONTACT YOU. II NOTICED THE PROBLEM DURING ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION. THE TIRES WERE LAST ROTATED JUNE 2006 . THERE WAS NO VISIBLE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. THERE ARE 26K MILES ON THESE TIRES AS OF THIS WRITING. *JB
76695 MILES REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING DIFFERENTIAL FLUID ON PASSENGER SIDE. *NM
AXLE LEAKED ON LEFT REAR WHEEL. LUBRICANT LEAKED ON REAR BRAKES. I HAVE A CONCERN THAT LUBRICANT LEAK PRESENTED A DANGER WITH BOTH THE STANDARD BRAKE AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN SATURATED WITH LEAKING LUBRICANT. THE WORKING SURFACE OF BRAKES SHOULDN'T BE LUBRICATED. I HAVE GRAVE CONCERN THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A DESIGN FLAW WITH NISSAN TITAN TRUCKS AND THE PROBLEM, WITH THE INHERENT DANGER, WILL PERSIST FOR THE USEFUL LIFE OF THE TRUCK.*AK
REAR HUB SEALS LEAKING. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND WHEN MAKING A SUDDEN STOP, THE BRAKE HAD TO BE PUMPED IN ORDER TO STOP. THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE VEHICLE. THE PADS AND ROTORS WERE CHANGED TWICE, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR INTERMITTENTLY. OTHER TIMES, WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE PEDAL WOULD NOT GO TO THE FLOOR, BUT WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE COMPUTERIZED BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM ACTIVATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND RANDOMLY CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BE THROWN FORWARD IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT TRUCK BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON SUDDENLY THEN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED. BRAKES HAD A GRABBING EFFECT NOT A SMOOTH STOP. AFTER TRUCK WAS PARKED AND IGNITION TURNED OFF BRAKES WERE NORMAL WHEN RESTARTED TRUCK. ITS A GOOD THING THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC AND ROAD WAS NOT LEVEL WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC AT THAT TIME. *NM
1) NOTHING UNUSUAL THAT LED UP TO THIS FAILURE...NO ACCIDENTS, NORMAL DRIVING BEHAVIOR. 2) RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING FLUID ONTO BRAKE ROTOR AND WHEEL. 3) DEALER REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
NOTICED GREASE ON REAR AXLE NEAR WHEEL WHILE UNDER TRUCK APPEARS TO BE LEAK FROM AXLE SEAL. I WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REVIEW AND REPAIR IF NECESSARY. I DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG THIS CONDITION HAS EXISTED, BUT COULD EXPECT THE LEAK TO AFFECT THE BRAKING ABILITY. *JB

REGULAR DRIVING HABITS IN A LARGE METRO ARE. I WORK ABOUT 25 MILES FROM THE HOUSE AND COMMUTE MAINLY WITH OCCASIONAL SALES CALLS. THE DRIVERS SIDE AXLE BEARING FAILED CAUSING THE SEAL TO GO OUT. THE DEALERSHIP IS TAKING CARE OF THE ISSUE AT HAND. *NM
LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING AT 10,769 MILES - REPLACED - OIL COULD HAVE CONTAMINATED BRAKE PADS RESULTING IN DIMINISHED BRAKING EFFICIENCY LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING AGAIN AT 13,022 MILES - REPLACED - DIFFERENTIAL OIL COULD HAVE CONTAMINATED BRAKE PADS RESULTING IN DIMINISHED BRAKING EFFICIENCY LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING THIRD TIME AT 26,707 MILES - ENTIRE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY REPLACED. ONCE AGAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL COULD CONTAMINATE REAR BRAKE PADS CAUSING BRAKING PROBLEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE FILLED THE GAS TANK, HE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD NOT SURPASS THE 3/4 FULL MARK. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 61,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE BRAKES SHOOK, VIBRATED AND STOPPING POWER WAS DIMINISHED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS FIVE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AFTER 4,000 MILES. THE FIFTH TIME THE FRONT PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT 27,000 MILES. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF THE MILEAGE IN BETWEEN. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIR.
MULTIPLE LEAKS WITH REAR AXLE SEALS PUTTING DIFFERENT FLUID ON REAR BRAKES. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON A FREEWAY A VIBRATION WAS OBSERVED IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS SQUEALING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 3000 MILES WHEN IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE FRONT BRAKES WERE TOO OLD. THE TWO FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED HOWEVER THE BRAKE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS 5 TIMES. THE SIXTH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CONTINUED WITH THE BRAKES PROBLEM AND IT HAS REPRESENTED A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. UPDATED 9/13/2006 - WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND, THE PEDAL VIBRATED AND THE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES ON THE RIGHT SIDE WERE CRACKED AND THE ONES ON THE LEFT SIDE WERE ABOUT TO CRACK. THE LAST TECHNICIAN WHO WORKED ON THE VEHICLE TOLD THE CONSUMER SHE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR. *NM
28,800 +/- MILES TOTAL WHEN DIFFERENTIAL BLEW ON MY 2004 TITAN SE WITH BIG TOW PACKAGE. I WAS TOWING MY WEEKEND WARRIOR FB2600 WHEN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BLEW OUT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I HAVE TOWED THIS TRAILER WITH THAT TRUCK FOR ABOUT AN AVERAGE TOTAL OF 3000 MILES. TOTAL TRAILER WEIGHT LOADED APPROX. 9200-9600 LBS. *NM
LOUD HUMMING NOISE FROM REAR DIFFERENTIAL. DEVELOPED INTO LOUD CLICKING NOISE FROM DIFFERENTIAL WHILE DRIVING. REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED, TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. REAR DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *NM
REAR SEALS LEAKING ON NISSAN TITAN, FLUID GETTING ON BRAKES. *NM
AXLE SEAL LEAK. RIGHT REAR SEAL. FLUID CAUSED PARKING BRAKE TO SLIP SLIGHTLY. OCCURRED AT 37,000 MILES ON 2004 NISSAN TITAN 4X4. DEALER REPAIRED AND REPLACED UNDER NISSAN 60,000 MILE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY. [FORUM MEMBERS GENERALLY BELIEVE THE REAR AXLE BREATHER ELEMENT, (A ONE WAY CHECK VALVE), CREATES A VACUUM THAT SUCKS THE SEALS, THEREBY CREATING THE LEAK. SOME EVEN REMOVE THE ELEMENT AND INSTALL TUBING INTO THEIR TAIL LIGHT TO ALLEVIATE THE CHECK VALVE AND STILL PREVENT WATER INTRUSION INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL/AXLE]. *JB
(1) NO KNOWN EVENTS PRECEDING FAILURE (2) BOTH RH AND LH AXLE SEALS MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING LOSS OF DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. CLOSE PROXIMITY TO BRAKE SYSTEM. (3) REQUIRED REPLACEMENT BUY THE MANUFACTURE. *NM
REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKING, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THE DIFFERENTIAL OIL GETTING ONTO THE REAR BRAKES CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION CAME OUT OF THE PARK POSITION AND BEGAN ROLLING WHILE AT THE TOP OF A DRIVEWAY. A CHILD IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE DURING THE INCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE RUNNING OVER THE CHILD. THE CHILD WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUFFERED CONTUSIONS. THE VEHICLE HIT A TREE AND THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THERE WAS A RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 04V408000 REGARDING THE POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:COLUMN SHIFT ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

REAR AXLE LEAKS AND DIFFERENTIAL PINION SEAL LEAKING. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A COMPLETELY NEW REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING DIFFERENTIAL. *JB
DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENTIRE AXLE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AND RATTLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THEY INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE STEERING FAILURE WAS ABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE STEERING RACK FORCE WAS ADJUSTED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS FIVE MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WILL NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. I NOTICE OIL ON THE REAR TIRES AND RUNNING INTO THE REAR ROTOR WHICH COULD LEAD TO BREAKING FAILURE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE REAR AXLE SEALS AND PINION SEAL WERE BAD SO I HAD THEM REPLACE RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE WITH ONLY 30,000 AND JUST NOW I GOT NEW TIRES AND THAT'S WHEN I FIND OUT IT'S BEEN LEAKING ALL THIS TIME NOW WITH 104,000 MILES. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TRUCK VIN [XXX] BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR THE DEALERSHIP HAS PUT 2 MASTER CYLINDERS ON IT BUT HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM THEY TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE A 16 YEAR OLD SON WHO IS LEARNING TO DRIVE. THIS PROBLEM COMES AND GOES BUT IT DID IT TO HIM AND SCARED HIM BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE HAD NO BRAKES. THE BRAKES ARE REAL SPONGY AND GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IF PRESSED FIRMLY. IN A HARD BRAKING SITUATION SUCH AS ON A STEEP HILL AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKES GOES TO THE FLOOR. REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT ON MY 04 NISSAN TITAN. *JB
WATER LEAKS INTO CAB CAUSE MOLD TO GROW AND TRUCK TO SMELL. TWO MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILY HAVE GOTTEN SICK FROM THE MOLD. TRUCK HAS BEEN IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIR BUT IT NEVER FIXES THE PROBLEM AND THE MOLD IN THE AIR CONDITIONING WILL NOT GO AWAY. *JB
GAS GAUGE READS INACCURATELY. GAS GAUGE WILL DROP A 1/4 OF A TANK RANDOMLY. BROUGHT TO DEALER'S ATTENTION ON 5/16/06, NOTHING WAS EVER DONE ABOUT IT. NOW 2005-2009 MODEL YEARS ARE PART OF A RECALL BUT NOT MODEL YEAR 2004? *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2004 NISSAN TITAN WITH 15,000 MILES. SOON AFTER PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WHEN BRAKING. NOW IT HAS PROGRESSED TO A VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WHEN BRAKING, MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM PLANNING TO REPLACE THE ROTORS, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. NISSAN SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE THE BRAKING SYSTEM BECAUSE LIVES DEPEND ON AN EFFECTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE GEARS BEGAN DRIVING IN THE REAR END. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HE DISCOVERED A RECALL FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE; HOWEVER, WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRES, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1,200 TO $2,000. THE SPIDER GEARS FAILED AND THE REAR END LOCKED. THE SPIDER GEARS IN THE REAR AXLE HOUSING METAL TEETH WERE REPLACED ON MAY 1, 2006 AND IN APRIL OF 2005. THE FAILURE HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE 2006. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,616. UPDATED 02-14-08 *BF
LAST APRIL - LEAKING LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL. REPLACED BY DEALER. TODAY (ONE YEAR LATER) - DISCOVERED RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKING ON SAME VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP -- NEW PART ON ORDER. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE DEALER. THE ROTORS WERE TURNED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE BRAKES. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRACTION, ABS, AND DIFFERENTIAL LOCK LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ILLUMINATION.
NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB, REAR SEAT MIDDLE SHOULDER/ LAP BELT, LOCKS UP WHEN USED, TRAPPING OCCUPANT WHEN BELT LOCKS UP, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO RELEASE, AND THEN REQUIRES OCCUPANT TO GET OUT AND TRY TO RETRACT BELT TO START WORKING AGAIN. *NM
INITIAL COMPLAINT TO DEALER WAS GAS TANK NOT FILLING PROPERLY. AFTER TAKING IN FOR REPAIR, TANK BEGAN LEAKING LARGE AMOUNTS OF GAS WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE TAKEN IN TO HAVE TANK FILL HOSE REPAIRED AGAIN. ONE MONTH LATER, AGAIN HAD A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE BEGAN LEAKING WHILE BEING DRIVEN. *NM

EXITED OFF OF TOLL WAY, AND CAME TO A STOP AT THE END OF THE EXIT. ACCELERATED TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. SUDDENLY HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION FELT BUCKING THEN THE ENGINE REVVED UP BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. PULLED OVER, STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN WITH NO RESPONSE. PUT VEHICLE INTO 4X4 MODE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY ORDERED AND INSTALLED A NEW COMPLETE REAR END. *JB
