BRAKES MINIMALLY EFFECTIVE WITHOUT PRIOR BRAKE LIGHT INDICATING A PROBLEM. BRAKE PEDAL CHATTERED. NOISE PRODUCED ASSOCIATED WITH CHATTER FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER PROBLEM STARTED. *TR
THE REAR UNIVERSAL JOINT HAS FAILED. I TOOK TO THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION ON OR ABOUT 9/2/10 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE U-JOINT HAD 3 BIG PIECES OF METAL LAYING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE HOUSING. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HUBLER NISSAN IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THE PREVIOUS FINDINGS. HUBLER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE REAR AXLE. THE APPROX. COST WOULD BE $2,500-$3,000. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. I BEGAN HAVING HUMMING SOUND FROM UNDERNEATH MY VEHICLE AT SPEEDS ABOVE 20MPH APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AGO. THE HUMMING HAS RECENTLY TURNED INTO A MUCH LOUDER WHINING NOISE, SO I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO NISSAN FOR EVALUATION. THEY CLAIM MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS BAD AND THE ENTIRE REAR END NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR REAR DIFFERENTIALS ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. I PERFORMED A REAR END FLUID CHANGE AND FOUND SEVERAL PIECES OF METAL IN THE OIL. THE PIECES LOOKED LIKE TEETH FROM GEARS. NISSAN CLAIMS THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE. DUE TO THE $3000+ PRICE TAG FOR REPLACING THE ENTIRE REAR END, NISSAN RECOMMENDED I GET A NEW TRUCK. I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE AWARE OF A PROBLEM, BUT DO NOT WANT TO ADMIT IT THUS FAR. I BELIEVE A REAR END FAILURE COULD CAUSE A FIRE AND OR CAUSE A LOSS OF VEHICULAR CONTROL. *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN VIN [XXX] AT 90K MILES THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS CRACKED ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. NISSAN COVERS THIS UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 80K MILES FOR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE TRUCK HAS HAD NO MODIFICATION AND WILL NOT PASS STATE EMISSIONS AND GETS HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE DUE TO THIS. NOW AT 104 K I HAVE VISITED MULTIPLE DEALERS AND THEY AGREE THIS IS COMMON ISSUE WITH THE TITAN'S AND THE CRACK WILL MAKE A 5 YEAR OLD TRUCK NOT PASS STATE EMISSIONS. TO REPLACE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WITH STOCK PARTS IS $1200; WHICH FRUSTRATES ME SINCE THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN WHICH CAUSES THE MANIFOLDS TO MOVE DIFFERENTLY THEN THE ENGINE MOUNTS ALLOW THE ENGINE TO. THE REAR AXLE SEALS WERE REPLACED WITH OEM 2 YEARS AGO. THEY ARE NOW LEAKING AGAIN ALLOWING GEAR LUBE TO RUN DOWN THE TUBES ONTO THE REAR BRAKES AND TIRES. RENDERING THE REAR BRAKES AND PARKING BRAKES USELESS AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS MAKES THE PARKING BRAKE USELESS PUTTING THE WHOLE TRUCKS WEIGHT CONSTANTLY ON THE PARK PIN OF THE TRANSMISSION. THIS REAR BRAKE LOSS CAUSED BRAKE FADE OF THE FRONT BRAKE COMING OFF AN INTERSTATE NEARLY REAR ENDING ANOTHER VEHICLE. I SAW ON THE FORUMS AND YOUR OWN COMPLAINT SEARCH THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON AND DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. THE PROBLEM MUST LAY IN THE AXLES AND NOT THE SEAL THEMSELVES TO BE GOING SO OFTEN. I TOW SOMETIMES AND THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER SO I MUST FIX THE PROBLEM ASAP. I HAVE TO REPLACE BRAKES AND ROTORS ALL THE WAY AROUND ALONG WITH PARKING SHOES AXLE SEALS AND BEARING RETAINERS. THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE.
REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. REAR DIFF FLUID IS GETTING ON REAR DISC BRAKES, BRAKING INHIBITED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. FIRST SEALS WERE REPLACED AT 48,000 MILES, NOW LEAKING AGAIN AT 97,000 MILES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND I HAD NO PRIMARY BRAKE FUNCTION. I WENT THRU AN INTERSECTION UNABLE TO STOP AND COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED MY FAMILY OR SOMEONE ELSE. THE VEHICLE DOES THIS MULTIPLE TIMES, IF I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, RESTART THE VEHICLE I HAVE BRAKES, DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEN NO BRAKES. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE, AND IT'S THE BRAKE BOOSTER. NISSAN KNOWS OF THE ISSUE, THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF EXACT COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. I'VE CONTACTED NISSAN, AND I GET NOTHING FROM THEM OR ANY ASSISTANCE. PLEASE, PLEASE, DO SOME RESEARCH ON LINE ABOUT THIS AND MAKE NISSAN FIX THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. I HAVE THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE GARAGE BECAUSE IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER FOR THE $1,200.00 REPAIR AND TOWING BILL. AS A CONSUMER I NEED YOUR HELP. *TR
REAR WHEEL SEAL OUT ON 2004 NISSAN TITAN 4WD. OIL GETTIN ON BRAKE COULD CAUSE FIRE. *TR
JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR. YOU HAVE VERY LITTLE BRAKES AND IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. IF YOU TURN OFF THE VEHICLE IT GOES AWAY. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO. IM TAKING IT TO A NISSAN DEALER NEXT WEEK AND THEY SAY ITS GOING TO COST ME 100 DOLLARS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IF ITS THAT BIG OF A PROBLEM SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL ON THIS AND NISSAN HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? *TR
BOTH REAR AXLE SEALS WERE LEAKING AT 51,000 MILES SO THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE DIFF OIL LEAKS ONTO REAR BRAKES. NOW THEY ARE BOTH LEAKING AGAIN AT 76,000. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN TRUCK. A REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD IT LEAK. DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL LEAKS, WHICH COULD GET ON THE BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME, I HAD TO REPLACE THE DIFFERENTIAL WHICH ALSO FAILED. I REPLACED THE SEAL AND BEARINGS. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME I WILL BE REPLACING THEM. IF I HAD NOT CHECKED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE, AS OIL COULD GET ON THE BRAKES. ALSO, DUE TO NISSAN'S POLICY OF NOT SELLING REAR END PARTS (IN THE DIFFERENTIAL) I HAD TO BUY A WHOLE NEW REAR END THE FIRST TIME. I DID NOT SAVE THE OLD PARTS. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR AND I HEARD A GRINDING/CLICKING NOISE. THE TRUCK WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO STOP BEFORE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PULLED BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE ASSEMBLIES AND MADE SURE THERE WAS FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. I CYCLED THE IGNITION SYSTEM A FEW TIMES AND STARTED BACK UP. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR THE TIME BEING. *TR
AT AROUND 106,00 MILES THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AXLE SEAL BLEW OUT WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO DESTROY ABS SENSOR AND PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY. 2,000 MILES LATER PASSENGER SIDE REAR SEAL BLEW OUT AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL TOTALLY LOCKED UP. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN SIMPLY WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE. THIS REPAIR ENDED UP COSTING AROUND $4,100 TO REPAIR AT MY EXPENSE, ON TOP OF THE $900 PAID PREVIOUSLY TO REPAIR ORIGINAL SEAL FAILURE. *LN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE, DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH HE HEARD A TICKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN AUGUST OF 2010 AND THAT THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED SINCE THE PURCHASE DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,888.
WHILE LOADING TRUCK FOR A VACATION TRIP, I NOTICED A LARGE BULGE COMING UP THROUGH THE TRUCK BED IN THE LEFT REAR PORTION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE LEFT REAR SHACKLE HOLDING HOLDING THE LEAF SPRING TO THE FRAME SNAPPED IN HALF. THE TRUCK IS A GARAGE KEPT, 35,000 MILE LIMITED PERSONAL USE VEHICLE. IF I HAD NOT BEEN GOING AWAY, THE SPRING WOULD HAVE PUSHED ITS WAY THROUGH THE BED. *TR
MY NISSAN TITAN CREWS BRAKES WERE NOT PERFORMING WELL ON A TRIP I TOOK. AFTER GETTING HOME I NOTICED OIL ON MY GARAGE FLOOR AT BOTH REAR BRAKES. THE REAR DIFF. WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE TO THE EXTENT THAT OIL WAS BEING SLUNG THROUGHOUT THE WHEEL WELL THE REAR AXLE HAS FAILED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SEAL REQUIRED REPLACEMENT DUE TO EXCESSIVE LEAKAGE WHEN I PARKED THE TRUCK IT HAD MOVED SEVERAL INCHES BACK UNTIL ANOTHER GEAR ENGAGED THE PROBLEM IS NOT DESIGN ITSELF IT IS THE QUALITY OF THE METAL BEING USED FOR THE GEARS I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR
REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT ON MY NISSAN TITAN 2004. DENIED BY NISSAN FOR ANY ASSISTANCE. NISSAN DENIED ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF REAR DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEMS. *TR
DIFFERENTIAL STARTED TO WINE AT ABOUT 58,000 MILES. NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR-END OF DIFF IS LEAKING OIL. REPORTED IT TO DEALER, BUT THEY SAID NOTHING IS WRONG, DO NOT HEAR ANYTHING, NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. CONCERNED THAT THE OIL MAY END UP ON THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS IN WHICH CASE REAR BRAKE FAILURE MAY OCCUR. REAR END STARTING TO FAIL NOW AT 72,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPLIED BRAKES , BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND METAL TO METAL SOUND HEARD IN FRONT END BRAKES, I STOPPED NOTICED BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON . I TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED .THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO WORKING NORMAL . THIS SITUATION HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS INVOLVING THIS SAME SITUATION AND IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED ARE KILLED. I HAVE MADE APPOINTMENT WITH NISSAN DEALER. VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 40,000. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED HE ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING NOISE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT BOTH REAR AXLES SEALS WERE BLOWN AND SATURATED WITH OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,167.
TICKING NOISE DISCOVERED WHEN STARTING THE TRUCK. SOUNDS SEEMS TO COME FROM LOWER ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR FROM FRONT WHEEL-WELLS. SUSPECTED A LEAKING EXHAUST PIPE. TOOK TRUCK TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS (LEFT AND RIGHT) WERE BOTH CRACKED. ESTIMATED COST WAS $2100. ADVISED BY NISSAN TECHNICIAN TO "JUST LEAVE IT ALONE" AS THE ONLY RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM WAS THE TICKING NOISE AND A LITTLE WORSE MILEAGE THAN USUAL. OVER THE LAST YEAR, SEVERAL INSTANCES OF ENGINE FUMES CAUSING PASSENGERS TO ROLL WINDOWS DOWN. SUSPECT THE FUMES ARE COMING FROM THE MANIFOLDS SINCE NO OTHER EXHAUST LEAKS HAVE BEEN FOUND. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND ON 7/29/10 AT 4:30PM. IT ALL STARTED AS I WAS BACKING UP AND I NOTICED AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW SMOKE AND INSPECTED IT CLOSER AND NOTICED THAT THE SMOKE WAS BLOOMING FROM AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT WHICH APPEARED TO BE THE COMPUTER. I TOOK SOME VIDEO OF IT AS PROOF OF WHAT WAS GOING ON NOT KNOWING THAT MY TRUCK WOULD BE ENGULFED IN FLAMES MINUTES LATER. THE VIDEO IS CLEAR THAT IT WAS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I TRIED TO STOP IT BY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY BUT THAT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. LATER MY FIRE INSPECTOR SAID IT WAS NISSANS BCM THAT FAILED! HE WAS VERY HAPPY HAD THE VIDEO OTHERWISE HE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY. HE SAID THE VIDEO IS REALLY CLEAR AND APPARENT WHAT HAPPENED. NISSAN NEVER RECALLED JUST SENT SERVICE BULLETINS. MY INSURANCE MAY COVER THE REMAINDER OF THE LOAN BUT THAT DOES NOT PUT ME ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN ON THIS MATTER AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO LET MY INSURANCE DEAL WITH IT, WHICH I EXPLAINED ABOVE HOW THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS NISSANS FAULT AND THEY SHOULD HELP ME BUT THEY ARE NOT. APPARENTLY I NEED TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY THAT DEALS WITH FIRE AND I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE, WHICH I CAN NOT AFFORD. I TOLD NISSAN I HAD THE VIDEO BUT THEY DID NOT CARE. YOU WOULD THINK AFTER ALL THE TOYOTA INCIDENTS THAT THEY MAY HELP ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAD THE VIDEO OF PROOF AND THEY DID NOT . I HAVE SENT THE VIDEO AND ALL PICTURES I HAVE TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AS WELL BUT ALL THEY WILL PROBABLY GET IS THE MONEY THEY PAID FOR LOAN. SO MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS COVERED BUT I'M LEFT OUT TO DRY. PLEASE READ THIS PART. THE FIRE INSPECTOR FOR MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND AN OUTSIDE INDEPENDENT FIRE INSPECTOR HAVE CONCLUDED IT WAS THE BCM ( BODY CONTROL MODULE). NISSAN KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BUT JUST SENT OUT SERVICE LETTERS AND NOT RECALLS. MY INSURANCE WILL BE PURSUING NISSAN AS WELL ! *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN 67000 MILES, DRIVING ON REGULAR ROAD IN GOOD REPAIR, REAR DIFFERENTIAL STARTING MAKING NOISE. NEXT DAY, DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP. INSPECTION SHOWED BROKEN TEETH ON RING AND PINION GEARS. *TR
THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO MY FRONT END AXLE FAILURE WAS DUE TO SLIGHT USE OF THE 4WD IN MILD SNOW CONDITIONS THE FIRST TIME. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY A FACTORY NISSAN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OCCUR LESS THAN 30,000 MILES LATER. NISSAN IS SAYING ITS NOT THEIR FAULT BUT I WAS NOT ABUSING THE 4WD SIMPLY JUST USING IT. BASICALLY THE FRONT LEFT AXLE BREAKS A CLIP AND THE AXLE SHAFT GOING INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL SLIDES DOWN. OVER TIME UNNOTICED I'M SURE THIS COULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE FRONT END COMPONENTS UNTIL A CATASTROPHIC STEERING/WHEEL FAILURE. I WILL BE TRYING TO CONTACT NISSAN TO GET THEIR STORY OF WHY THIS KEEPS OCCURRING. *TR
THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN WITH APPROX. 36,000 MILES OF USE ON THE VEHICLE. ON SEVERAL USES I HEARD 'CLUNKING' NOISES FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. ON THE LAST TIME BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE 'CLUNKING' NOISE WAS LIKE A GRINDING NOISE ALSO. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE DIFFERENTIAL HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS PART IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT PART OF THE VEHICLES ABILITY TO OPERATE SAFELY. THIS PART FAILED WITH ONLY 36,000 MILES ON IT. CLEARLY IT IS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND ACTION TO FORCE THE MANUFACTURER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURIES TO OTHERS IS REQUIRED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED AND REPLACED IT WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THIS THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A CRACK IN THE SEAM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED WHICH CAUSED THE EXHAUST FUMES TO ESCAPE INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT IF THE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED BUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NOT, THE MANIFOLD WOULD CRACK AGAIN. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000.
REAR AXLE SEALS BEGAN TO LEAK AT 75000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY AT ALL TIMES. THE NISSAN DEALER NOTICE THE LEAK DURING AN INSPECTION. NUMEROUS FORUMS HAVE COMPLAINTS OF THE AXLE SEALS FAILING DUE TO IMPROPER VENTING. LEAKAGE OF GEAR OIL ONTO REAR BRAKES PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD TO MY FAMILY. REQUEST NISSAN REPLACE AXLE SEALS AND DO A RECALL TO REENGINEER A NEW VENTING SYSTEM FOR AXLE SEALS. *TR
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

WHILE PULLING MY BOAT TO THE LAKE YESTERDAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 2004 TITAN 4X4 KING CAB (MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 78,000), THE ABS, SLIP, AND VDC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. BEFORE I COULD REACH AN EXIT TO PULL OFF, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENED WITHIN A MATTER OF LESS THAN 3 MINUTES. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RE-FIRE. UPON INSPECTION, I NOTICED SMOKE POURING FROM REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL. I GOT ALL OCCUPANTS OUT OF THE TRUCK AND WHEN I RETURNED SECONDS LATER, I SPOTTED A FIRE COMING FROM THE WIRING HARNESS JUST WHERE IT GOES OVER THE FRAME RAIL IN THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL. LUCKILY I HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON THE BOAT AND WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BEFORE CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, MY FAMILY OR PASSERS-BY. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED AND THEY "BELIEVE" A NEW WIRING HARNESS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE "NO IDEA" HOW A FIRE COULD HAVE HAPPENED. DRIVING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, ENGINE JUST STOPPED. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. NISSAN DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS FAILED IPDM (INTERGRATED POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE). NEW PART SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. DEALERS MECHANIC SAID THE FACTORY TOLD HIM THEY HAD EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THESE PARTS. I WAS DRIVING IN LOOSE GRAVEL AND I FELT AN UNUSUALLY FEELING IN MY REAR AXEL, SO I DROVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY HOME NEVER FELT IT UNTIL I ARRIVED TO MY HOME AND THEN I PARKED IT. I THEN CALLED A TRANSMISSION MECHANIC AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED AND TRIED TO GET REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MY REAR AXLE AND WHERE UNABLE TO. SO THEY HAD TO GET A HOLE NEW REAR AXLE NOT JUST NEW PARTS BUT A COMPLETELY NEW REAR AXLE. THE NEW REAR AXLE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL, WHICH MAKES ME AND THE MECHANIC THAT OWNS THE REPAIR SHOP BELIEVE THAT THE ORIGINAL REAR AXLE WAS FAULTY. OTHER WISE WHY WOULDN'T THE REAR END BE THE SAME AND BE ABLE TO GET REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE OLD REAR AXLE LIKE YOU CAN WITH MOST VEHICLES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND HEARD A LOUD TICKING NOISE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HANGERS BUT NOT WITH A STRONGER ONE. THE CONTACT WAS AFRAID THE HANGERS MIGHT FAIL AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST IN REPAIRS AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,462. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,168.
HELLO. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHEN HAVING THE VEHICLE CHECKED FOR SAFETY, WE NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE REAR AXLE SEALS ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE WERE LEAKING. THE SEAL LOOKED TO HAVE LEAD A FAIRLY LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL THAT WAS SATURATING THE RIM AND ALSO SOAKED THE EMERGENCY BREAK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. AFTER LOOKING AT THE CAR FAX IN NOTICED THAT THIS SAME VEHICLE HAD A REAR AXLE SEAL REPLACE IN JANUARY. I CANNOT BE CERTAIN THIS SEAL WAS THE SAME SEAL AS THE ONE IN JANUARY. THE VEHICLE HAS 68000 MILES ON IT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON TITAN TALK.COM I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FROM THIS TRUCK. I AM NOT SURE IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT BUT I DO FEEL LIKE THIS COULD TURN INTO A SAFETY ISSUE CONSIDERING NOT ONLY THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT THAT WHEN THIS PROBLEM DOES OCCUR, IT SATURATES THE RIMS, TIRES AND BRAKES WITH OIL. *TR
THE REAR AXLE SEALS (BOTH) ON MY 2004 STARTED LEAKING AT 56,000 MILES. THE LEAK OCCURRED AT 5 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS SO THE DEALER DENIED ANY WARRANTY RESPONSIBILITY. THIS VEHICLE IS USED FOR MOSTLY FOR LOCAL TRIPS WITH OCCASIONAL TRAILER TOWING THAT IS WELL WITHIN THE DESIGN LIMITS AS ADVERTISED BY THE MANUFACTURER. IN REPLACING THE SEALS IT WAS NOTED THAT THEY APPEAR TO SPIN IN THE AXLE HOUSING THUS WEARING OFF THE OUTER SEALING SURFACE. IT APPEARS THAT THE ONLY PROVISION TO PREVENT THIS IS THE CLAMPING ACTION OF THE BEARING RETAINER THAT SANDWICHES THE SEAL BETWEEN IT AND THE BEARING WHICH IS THEN FORCED AGAINST A SHOULDER IN THE AXLE HOUSING. PREVIOUS DESIGNS OF THIS AXLE, AS USED BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS, PRESSED THE SEAL INTO THE RETAINER AND THEN SEALED THE RETAINER TO THE HOUSING WITH A GASKET. LEAKS SUCH AS I EXPERIENCED WERE ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. WHILE THE LEAK IS MOSTLY ANNOYING, IT DOES HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CONTAMINATE THE BRAKES THUS IMPAIRING THE STOPPING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE FUMES CAUSE NAUSEA AND HEADACHES. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS TOPIC ONLINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON DEFECT AMONG 2004 THRU 2007 NISSAN TITANS. THERE HAS YET TO BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I CONTINUALLY SEE PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ISSUE ON INTERNET FORUMS. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART. THE LEAK IS ALSO HAZARDOUS TO THE ENVIRONMENT. I HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO THE EPA AS WELL. *TR
