TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONTACT SWERVED AND CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE MANUFACTURER DENIED TO ASSIST THE CONTACT UNLESS AN ATTORNEY WAS PRESENT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN TITAN, AND I NOTICED OIL ON MY REAR WHEELS, AND ON THE FLOOR BELOW BOTH OF MY REAR BRAKES. THE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AT BOTH ENDS OF THE AXLE. THE OIL WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE BRAKE BACKING PLATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS. I TURNED THIS INTO NISSAN,AND THEY RE-EMBERSED ME FOR THE REPAIR. I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON ON THE 2004 NISSAN TITAN, AND I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE REAR BRAKES DO NOT OPERATE WELL NOW THAT THE OIL WAS ON THE BRAKES. AT THE TIME, I HAD APPROXIMATELY 75000 MILES ON THE TRUCK, AND DON'T TOW OR USE FOR HEAVY USE. I DRIVE THIS AS I WOULD A CAR. ANYHOW, THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL SEAL HAS STARTED LEAKING AGAIN, AND I HAVE 90,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK NOW. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH WITH HIS SEATBELT SECURED, BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAGS RANDOMLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARRANT. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE CONTACTED AND AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD COME ASSESS THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 81,406.
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK FULL WITH GAS, THE FUEL GAUGE ONLY INDICATED THE TANK IS 3/4 FULL. THIS HAPPENS VERY TIME I FILL UP. A FUEL GAUGE ISSUE COULD LEAD TO THE VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AND LEAVING MY FAMILY AND I STRANDED SOMEWHERE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHTS SHOWS THE AIRBAG IS CONSISTENTLY OFF, WHICH WOULD INDICATE TO ME THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IS NOT ACTIVATED OR THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT IS DEFECTIVE. THIS OCCURS WITH EVERY PASSENGER, INCLUDING A MALE WEIGHING 250 LBS. *TR
TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD UNUSUAL NOISE. HE THEN MOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROAD AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, NOTICED THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED THROUGH THE BED OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CAUSED A DEFECT IN THE SUSPENSION AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LEFT AND RIGHT SHACKLES TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,200.
THE LEAF SPRING BOLT BROKE AND CAUSED THE REAR AXEL LEAF SPRING TO SHOOT THROUGH THE BED OF THE TRUCK. ON INSPECTION THE OTHER LEAF SPRING WAS READY TO ALSO BREAK. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHILE TURNING A CORNER ON THE ROAD. PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SHACKLE, CLIPS, SPRING ASSEMBLE, BOLTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALL PARTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TRUCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SINCE THE OTHER ONE WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE ALSO. ALL PARTS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS AT OUR EXPENSE. NISSAN STATED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. HOWEVER, SEVERAL MASTER MECHANICS STATED THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN. *TR
REAR AXLE OIL LEAK REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF BREATHER AND RIGHT REAR AXLE AT 45,385 MILES. REOCCURRED 9-26-11 AT 54,718 MILES. INTERNET SITES INDICATE THIS IS A COMMON RECURRENCE AND THE PART WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REDESIGNED. NISSAN REFUSE TO STAND BY THEIR QUALITY AND HIDE BEHIND THE WARRANTY TERMS FOR A DESIGN FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHEN THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE SEALS WERE LEAKING. FIVE YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD THE ENTIRE REAR ASSEMBLY REPLACED DUE TO THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
2004 NISSAN TITAN REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL SEALS LEAKING REPEATEDLY. DEALERSHIP HAD REPLACED ENTIRE REAR AXLE AT 25,000 MILES. 116,000 MILES SEALS LEAKING AGAIN. COST TO REPAIR ESTIMATED AT $900.00 TO $3000.00. UNABLE TO JUST REPLACE LEAKING SEAL, MUST REPLACE ENTIRE PORTION OF AXLE ASSEMBLY. *TR
WHEN RE-FUELING 2004 NISSAN TITAN, THE FUEL SPEWS BACK OUT THE FILLER NOZZLE ONTO OPERATORS BODY. DEALER HAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED CHARCOAL CANISTER AND FUEL TANK ON 10/ 2005, 12/2005, 1/2007, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. *TR
REAR DRUM BRAKE LINER DETACHED FROM BACKING PLATE WHILE DRIVING. A LOUD BANGING NOISE WAS MADE. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY DRIVEN TO A NISSAN DEALER. A LOANER CAR WAS OFFERED TO ME. A TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE FOLLOWING; THE BRAKE LINER CAUSED NONREPAIRABLE DAMAGE TO ABS SENSOR, DRIVE SHAFT, DUST SHIELD, AND BRAKE PADS. THE TRUCK HAD 65,757 MILES ON THE TRUCK.PARTS TOOK 6 DAYS TO ORDER. THE BILL WAS $2,300. NISSAN HONORED WARRANTY ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. TOTAL BILL WAS $1,232,48. THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY THE BRAKE LINER DETACHING FROM THE BACKING PLATE, THE LOOSE BRAKE PAD CAUSED THE DESTRUCTION. OTHER WORK PERFORMED WAS REPAIR OF THE EVAP SYSTEM. *TR
2004 NISSAN TITAN - REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKING. IN SHOP- WAITING FOR REPAIRS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMAON FAILURE FOR THIS TRUCK AND THAT REPAIRS MOST LIKELY WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AS IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL PROBABLY OCCUR AGAIN. NEED RECALL TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AS BRAKES MAY FAIL. DO WE NEED WHAT HAPPENED TO TOYOTA TO HAPPEN TO NISSAN TO GET RESULTS ? ? ?
FRONT AND REAR DRIVE TRAIN NOT PROPERLY VENTED LEADING TO AXLE SEAL LEAKS ONTO BRAKES
1. THERE WERE NO SPECIFIC EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. 2. THE C-CLIP THAT HELD MY DRIVER'S SIDE AXLE IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OF MY 2004 4X4 NISSAN TITAN BROKE, CAUSING THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL TO FAIL. I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE TRUCK ONE EVENING AND UPON INSPECTION, FOUND THAT THE AXLE HAD SHIFTED 1/2 TO 3/4 OF AN INCH OUTSIDE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING. THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE RUINED SIDE SEAL CAUSED BY THE C CLIP BREAKING. 3. I FILLED THE DIFFERENTIAL UP WITH NEW OIL TO AVOID BURNING UP THE RING AND PINION (DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS ALREADY BAD AT THE TIME) SO THAT I COULD GET THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED, I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WOULD BE $1987. I CHECKED AROUND AND NO OTHER AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP COULD FIX THIS B/C THEY COULD NOT GET THE PARTS. APPARENTLY THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FOR MY TRUCK IS "CAPTIVATED" WHICH MEANS ONLY THE DEALERSHIPS CAN GET THEM. TO MY UNDERSTANDING, IT SEEMS KIND OF LIKE A MONOPOLY ON THE PARTS.
MY REAR AXLE SEALS ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN PICK-UP TRUCK LEAKED AND CAUSE THE REAR BRAKES TO FAIL. *TR
FAILURE OF REAR DIFFERENTIAL. 2004 TITAN PURCHASED 8/04. IN 8/05 WHILE IN WASHINGTON STATE ON VACATION, NOTICED 3-4 MPG DROP IN GAS MILEAGE. CRAWLED UNDER TRUCK LOOKING FOR GAS LEAK AND FOUND DIFFERENTIAL FLUID HAD SHOT OUT OF FRONT SEAL AND FLUID WAS LOW. ADDED FLUID PER OWNERS MANUAL AND BROUGHT TO A DEALER. DEALER SAID I USED WRONG FLUID AND SHOULD HAVE USED SYNTHETIC. AT THIS POINT NISSAN REALIZED THEY HAD A HEAT PROBLEM AND SWITCHED TO SYNTHETIC AND INSTALLED FINNED DIFFERENTIAL COVERS (WHICH I NOTICED WERE ON THE 2005 MODELS IN THEIR LOT). I TOLD THE DEALER THEY WERE COVERING UP A HEAT PROBLEM ON THE 2004 MODEL AND WANTED AN INSPECTION. THEY REFUSED SINCE THEY DIDN'T SEE A PROBLEM. INSTALLED MAG-HYTECH COVER MYSELF. PERIODICALLY HAD OIL SHOOT OUT OF VENT ON AXLE TUBE AND ALL OVER TIRE. DEALER SAID THAT WAS NORMAL. 4/17/08 AT 41000 MILES RIGHT AXLE SEAL FAILURE, DEALER FIXED. 10/13/09 AT 52589 MILES LEFT AXLE SEAL FAILURE, CONVINCED NISSAN CORPORATE TO FIX AND THEY DID. FOUND FIX ON-LINE FOR BAD AXLE VENT DESIGN, ADDED VENT HOSE AND FILTER BUT STILL HAD FLUID COMING OUT. 3/8/10 AT 55900 LOTS OF METAL ON DIPSTICK, CHANGED FLUID AND PIECES OF SPIDER GEAR CAME OUT WITH FLUID. 3/16/10 AT 55919 BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION HOPING TO GET NISSAN TO REPAIR DIFFERENTIAL. NISSAN REFUSED SINCE "TOO EXPENSIVE AND THERE WASN'T A RECALL ANYWAY", ONE OF THE DUMBER COMMENTS I'VE EVER HEARD. 3/22/10 AT 55924 HAD 4X4 SHOP REPAIR DIFFERENTIAL. SHOP SHOWED ME NISSAN HAD INSTALLED WRONG BOLTS IN DIFFERENTIAL. SHOULDER ON BOLTS WAS TOO SHORT AND ONLY HIT ONE SIDE OF SPIDER GEAR ASSEMBLY FLANGE, WITH OTHER SIDE RIDING ON THE THREADS. BOLTS EVENTUALLY BACKED OUT CAUSING SPIDER GEARS TO SELF-DESTRUCT. COST ME $2100 TO REPAIR, EXISTING RING AND PINION WERE IN GOOD SHAPE INSPITE OF ISSUES. REPLACED DIFFERENTIAL ASSY WITH DETROIT TRUE TRAC. SHOP USED BOLTS FROM ANOTHER DANA DIFFERENTIAL AND CUT LENGTH TO FIT. *TR
2004 TITAN. CONNECTION FAILED AT THE FLANGES WELDED TO THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE MUFFLER EXTENSION AT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL AREA. THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE MUFFLER EXTENSION ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE FAILURE WAS CONFINED TO THE FLANGE ATTACHMENTS. FAILURE RESULTED IN HOT AIR/GASES MELTING A CRITICAL WIRE HARNESS THAT IS ATTACHED ALONG THE FRAME BEAM TO CARRY ELECTRICS TO THE REAR OF VEHICLE. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS DAMAGED. THE WIRES SHORTED, CAUSING THE FAILURE OF UNDERHOOD ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCE WAS THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AND ALL OTHER COMPONENTS RELYING ON POWER FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE EXPERIENCED DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO A STOP ALONG A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. LONG RANGE CONSEQUENCES WERE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TITAN'S WIRE BUNDLES AND ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AT CONSIDERABLE COST. NISSAN HAS NOT, TO DATE, EXPLAINED WHY THIS SIMPLE CONNECTION FAILED, WHY A WIRE HARNESS WAS LOCATED CLOSE TO THIS HEAT SOURCE, WHY THE WIRE HARNESS WAS NOT PROTECTED AGAINST HEAT DAMAGE, WHY THE ELECTRICAL DAMAGE WAS NOT LIMITED BY A FUSE, WHY TITAN OWNERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC PROBLEM AND WHY NISSAN DEALERS DID NOT INSPECT AND NOTIFY TITAN OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE DURING OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT THEIR FACILITIES. *TR
HEARD A CLUNK FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE ELECTRONIC LOCKER DISINTEGRATED DAMAGING THE REAR END. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2004 TO 2007 TITAN'S WITH THE OFF-ROAD PACKAGE. NEVER USED THE TRUCK FOR TOWING. IT WAS USED FOR DAILY TRANSPORTATION. THE TRUCK HAD ABOUT 90,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE REAR END BLEW UP. I HAD A LOCAL SHOP PUT IN NEW AXLES, RING AND PINION AND AN AFTER MARKET LOCKER FOR ABOUT $2500. NISSAN WANTED TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE REAR END WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT $3500. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACK. EXHAUST FUMES SMELLED IN THE CABIN. *TR
UPON START UP PARKING BRAKE LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON, HOWEVER THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT SET. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THE BRAKES BECAME INEFFECTIVE. THE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND THERE WAS A PULSING SENSATION. IF I HAD NOT BEEN GOING LESS THAN 5MPH I AM UNSURE IF I COULD HAVE STOPPED, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED ALL LIGHTS AND PROBLEMS DISAPPEARED AND BRAKES FUNCTIONED OK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY LOCATED A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND/OR MASTER CYLINDER. *TR
ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE ROAD DOING 25-35 MPH AND HER 2004 NISSAN TITAN CC SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THEN ENGINE SHUT OFF. SHE CAME TO A STOP AND THE TRUCK RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. ON FEB 26TH, 2010 MY WIFE WAS AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START. SHE HAD GIVEN ME THE WRONG DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRUCK I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A DEAD BATTERY. SO I JUMP STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP SO I REPLACED THE BATTERY. ON FEB 27TH, 2010 MY WIFE AND I WERE SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE TRUCK'S ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AND THIS CAUSED A MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM AND WE WERE ALMOST HIT MY MULTIPLE VEHICLES. LUCKILY A COUPLE BYSTANDERS HELPED DIRECT TRAFFIC AND HELPED PUSH THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AND NOTHING ELSE WAS VISIBLY WRONG SUCH AS BATTERY OR ANY OTHER COMMON ITEMS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES THE TRUCK STARTED RIGHT UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH ONLINE THROUGH MULTIPLE NISSAN TITAN FORUMS IT CAME TOP MY ATTENTION THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN KNOWN ABOUT BY OWNERS FOR SOME TIME. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) IN THE TRUCK WERE FAULTING CAUSING THE ECM RELAY ON THE TRUCK TO STOP WORKING. THE SHORT TERM FIX FOR THIS WAS TO REPLACE THE RELAY. THE LONG TERM FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE IPDM. SO I REPLACED THE IPDM AND HAVE NOT SEEN A PROBLEM SINCE. WHEN I WENT TO THE PARTS COUNTER AT KORUM NISSAN IN PUYALLUP TO PICK UP MY $178 PART I ASKED HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE ORDERED THIS PART. I WAS TOLD BY THERE PARTS REP MIKE THAT HE HAS SOLD A LOT OF THESE UNITS FOR VARIOUS REASONS. HE SAID IT WAS A COMMON KNOWN ISSUE BY THE PARTS REPS AND THE SERVICE REPS. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS HOW SUCH A THING COULD BE KNOWN SO WELL BUT NO SAFETY RECALL HAS HAPPENED. MY PROBLEMS WERE RELATIVELY MINOR COMPARED TO OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SUCH PROBLEMS AT HIGH SPEEDS WHERE DEATH OR INJURY COULD OCCUR. *TR
ON THE AFTERNOON OF FEB. 25TH, 2010 MY NISSAN TITAN REAR DIFFERENTIAL MADE A LOUD BOOM NOISE. AFTER WARDS, THE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE ROLLED A LOUD WHIRLING NOISE COULD BE HEARD IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC WHERE HE SAID THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS SHOT. AS HE WAS BACKING UP FROM THE TOW TRUCK THE TRUCK MADE A SECOND LOUD POP NOISE. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 40K MILES ON IT. I DO NOT TOW ANYTHING. I DO NOT CONSTANTLY LUG HEAVY ITEMS ON IT. I DON'T PUSH MY TRUCK TO THE LIMIT AT ALL. BUT THIS HAPPENS. AND WORST OF ALL IT HAPPENS WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE ESPECIALLY FROM NISSAN. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND SHOULD BE FIXED. I HAVE THREE OPTIONS FROM MY MECHANIC. USED FOR A THOUSAND DOLLAR. REBUILD IT FOR 1,200.00 DOLLARS, OR OVER 2000 FOR NEW. AND THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM VERY UPSET AT THIS SITUATION. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD WARPS AFTER ABOUT 80K MILES, CREATING AN EXHAUST LEAK. IF IT DEVELOPS BEFORE THE 80K MILE EMISSIONS WARRANTY, IT WILL BE COVERED. MOST DEVELOP AFTER THE WARRANTY. I OWN AN '04 AND AN '05 NISSAN TITAN. THE '05 EXHAUST LEAK WAS FIXED AT 78K MILES WITH 1 NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND SOME CROSSOVER PIPING. THE '04 STARTED AT 88K MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT HELPED WITH THE PROBLEM WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ESTIMATING $1300 TO REPAIR. *TR
AS SO MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED, THE REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING FLUID ON REAR BRAKE ROTORS WHICH IS CAUSING BRAKES TO FAIL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND EXPENSE. NISSAN SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX ISSUE. ONLY HAVE 54000 MILES ON VEHICLE. *TR
FRONT AXLE FAILED AT 41,000 MILES WITH ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH INTO 4WD HI ON SNOW AND ICE COVERED STREET DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES PER HOUR. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AXLE SHAFT SNAPPED AT A MACHINED POINT ON THE SHAFT AND HAD PULLED OUT OF THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING ALLOWING THE GEAR FLUID TO LEAK OUT. DEALER REPLACED THE STUB SHAFT AND INTERNAL PINION GEAR. THIS WAS ONLY THE SECOND TIME I'VE USED THE 4WD. THANKFULLY I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AS IT WAS NOT COVERED BY FACTORY WARRANTY. *TR

THE '05 WAS FIXED UNDER A MANUFACTURERS RECALL. THE '04 HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE WANTING $800 TO FIX IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN KING CAB. I HAVE ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS HAD MAJOR BRAKE RELATED ISSUES. YOU ARE PROBABLY WELL AWARE THAT THE TITAN HAD SOME INITIAL PROBLEMS WITH THEIR BRAKES IN THE EARLY MODELS THAT WERE SOLVED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAS FAILED TO SOLVE MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS I AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD. IN RANDOM SITUATIONS, APPLYING THE BRAKES LIGHTLY AND NORMALLY, THE BRAKES BASICALLY FAIL TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED IT OFFERS NONE OF THE NORMAL RESISTANCE AND INSTEAD EASILY GOES STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, EMMEDIATELY THIS LOCKS THE BRAKES AND CAUSES THE TRUCK TO COME TO A RAPID AND IMMEDIATE LURCHING AND SLIDING STOP. SO FAR, MOST TIMES, I HAVE BE ABLE TO FEEL A SUBTLE CHANGE IN THE PEDAL IN TIME TO CHANGE HOW I APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT A FEW TIMES I HAVE BEEN SLAMMED AGAINST THE SEAT BELT AND NEARLY HIT MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. OFTEN THE PROBLEM IS IMMEDUATELY PRECEDED BY A SMALL SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SPRING COMING UNDONE.( I KNOW THIS MAY SOUND A BIT REDICULOUS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SOUND A SPRING WOULD MAKE IN A CARTOON..."BOING"). EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS THE BREAKS WILL REMAIN IN THE SAME STATE, MUSHY AND CAUSING AN IMMEDIATE LOCK UP UNTIL I STOP AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND GOES OFF AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. EVERYTHING WILL BE NORMAL AFTER RESTARTING AND THE PROBLEM OFTEN WON'T RESEURFACE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS. I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN THAT HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE DIFFERENTIAL IN THE REAR END. IN MY CASE THE REAR END DID NOT LOCK UP AT HIGHWAY SPEED BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR THAT HAPPENING IS THERE. AFTER MY PROBLEM OCCURRED I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DETERMINED THAT MY CASE WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. MY TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED, HAS A TOWING PACKAGE WHICH HAS BEEN USED TO TOW A TRAILER ONLY A FEW TIMES AND HAD ONLY 62,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. FROM WHAT I COULD DETERMINE NISSAN REDESIGNED THE REAR END I N THE 2008 MODEL AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REDUCED BUT THAT DOES NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM FOR THE 2004-2007 MODELS ON THE ROAD. UNFORTUNATELY THE NISSAN SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE FAULTY REAR END WITH THE SAME TYPE WHICH IN MY CASE I CHOSE NOT TO DO. FROM THE INFORMATION I COULD GATHER I WAS BETTER OFF AND SAFER GOING WITH AN AFTERMARKET DIFFERENTIAL WHICH I DECIDED TO DO TO PREVENT POTENTIAL PROBLEMS IN ANOTHER 3-4 YEARS OR SOONER. NISSAN HAD A SEAL LEAK ISSUE, WHICH PREVIOUS OWNER DID THE REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR OF THE SEAL BUT IT DID NOT WORK OR SOMETHING ELSE WENT WRONG. REPAIR COST $3,213.31. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE AN '04 NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB TRUCK. IN EARLIER PART OF '09, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HWY, MY ENGINE STALLED AND WENT OUT. BASICALLY I WAS JUST ROLLING ON THE HWY UNAWARE THAT THE ENGINE WENT OUT. THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS WITH MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN. WHEN IT GETS COLD OUT, ALL OF THE DOOR HANDLE FREEZE AND WON'T OPEN. THE NEXT DAY JUST WENT TO GO TO THE STORE, ABOUT 5 MINS AWAY, THE SLIGHT VIBRATION TURNED INTO A VERY LOUD KNOCKING SOUND AND YOU COULD FEEL IT THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO NISSAN. 2: THE FAILURE WAS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, NISSAN TOLD ME THAT BASICALLY THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE REAR DIF CAME APART AND THE WHOLE REAR END AXLE TO AXLE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO A TUNE OF 3,000 DOLLARS. LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW (ABOUT 25 MPH) SO THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER MAJOR DAMAGE OR INJURY. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON TITAN TALK FORUMS AND MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE AND HAVE REPORTED IT LIKE I AM NOW, SOME WEREN'T SO LUCKY AND WERE ON FREEWAY WHICH AT THOSE SPEEDS THEY CLAIM THE DRIVE-SHAFT BROKE OFF THE REAR DIFF AND WAS DRAGGING ON THE ROAD, NOT GOOD. 3: NISSAN IS REPLACING THE WHOLE REAR-END AXLE TO AXLE TO A TUNE OF 3,000 DOLLARS AND THEY ONLY WARRANTY THEY ARE OFFERING TO ME IS 1 YEAR UNLIMITED MILES AND THAT IS ALL THEY OFFER WHICH IN MY OPINION IS HORRIBLE. DRIVING DOWN OUR SNOW-COVERED STREET WE LIVE ON, I TRIED TO ENGAGE 4HI. ALL I HEARD WAS A GRINDING NOISE. AFTER STOPPING I TRIED THE 4HI SWITCH AGAIN AND IT SEEMED TO ENGAGE. I DIDN'T THINK ANYMORE ABOUT IT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN I NOTICED A BIG PUDDLE OF OIL ON DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AXLE HALF-SHAFT IS FLOPPING AROUND LOOSE AT THE DIFFERENTIAL, AND ALL THE DIFF OIL HAS LEAKED OUT. NISSAN SAYS THE WHOLE DIFF NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. APPARENTLY A C-CLIP INSIDE THE DIFF IS EASILY BROKEN AND IT LETS THE HALF-SHAFT POP OUT OF POSITION, AND AS IT TURNS AND FLOPS AROUND IT DESTROYS THE SEALS AND DIFF CASE. SEARCHING THE INTERNET ON THIS FAILURE SHOWS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME FAILURE, AND IF THE C-CLIP GETS STUCK IN THE GEARS IT CAN LEAD TO DIFF BREAKING INTO CHUNKS. NO REAL FIX EXCEPT TO REPLACE THE DIFF. PUSHING THE HALF-SHAFT BACK INTO THE DIFF WON'T WORK AS THE C-CLIP IS NEEDED TO RETAIN IT, AND THE C-CLIP TYPICALLY CANNOT BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE DIFF CASE IS DAMAGED. *TR
TOOK 2004 NISSAN TITAN PICKUP WITH 53,479 MILES TO DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE AND SERVICE UNDER RECALL NTB 352 W93 SERVICE MANUAL REFERENCE PB081. AT COMPLETION OF WORK SERVICE MANAGER MENTIONED THAT REAR AXLE SEAL SERVICE AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY 500.00 SHOULD BE CONSIDERED. I DID NOT KNOW AT THE TIME THAT THE SERVICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. LATER ON 10/14/2009 TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR OIL CHANGE NOW WITH MILEAGE OVER 60K SERVICE MANAGER RECOMMENDED THE AXLE SEAL SERVICE AT THE COST MENTIONED ABOVE. AT 66974 MILES I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I SCHEDULED THE AXLE SERVICE ON 12/14/09 WHEN SLIP AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON, THE DEALERSHIP ORDERED PARTS. FURTHER RESEARCH BY ME FOUND THAT THIS SERVICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT NO COST UNDER 60K WARRANTY PERIOD. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE MANAGER WAITED UNTIL MY VEHICLE WAS OVER 60K AND THEREFORE OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR

REVIEWED MANY TECHNICAL FORUMS WHERE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS BEING REPORTED AS CRACKED ON COUNTLESS TITANS.
