RIGHT AND LEFT REAR AXLE SEALS BLEW OUT AND LEAKED DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAKING ON REAR BRAKE ROTORS WHICH COULD CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE, WHICH WAS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN TO ME. BOUGHT USED ON 3/22/2010 WITH 61,611 MILES ON VEHICLE. NO SUSPENSION MODIFICATIONS HAD BEEN DONE TO VEHICLE. ALSO, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL OIL WILL SLOWLY LEAK AND CAUSE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO LOSE FLUID AND FAIL. AS THIS SEEMED TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN TITAN, NISSAN SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND OFFER A PERMANENT FIX SO WE WOULD NOT BE FACED WITH THE SAFETY ISSUE IN THE FUTURE. *TR
REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK. *TR
2005 TITAN 4X4 TRUCK. I HAD A NEW SET OF TIRES PUT ON MY TRUCK. THE TIRE SHOP NOTICED FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE BACK PLATE OF THE BRAKE ON THE RIGHT REAR OF MY TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS GEAR LUBE LEAKING OUT OF THE AXLE SEAL AND CONTAMINATED THE E-BRAKE AND PADS FOR THAT WHEEL. HE ALSO HAD TO CHANGE THE BEARING BECAUSE IT WAS PRESSED ON BETWEEN THE SEAL. *TR
LOUD ROAR FROM REAR OF TRUCK. ONCE IT STARTED IT GOT WORSE OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. CARRIED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD REAR END GEAR FAILURE. DEALER REPLACED REAR END. I CALLED NISSAN BECAUSE ONLY 10,000 OUT OF WARRANTY BUT TURNED DOWN. IF REAR END HAD WENT OUT AT SPEED THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS...NISSAN NEEDS TO REPAIR THESE TRUCKS! *TR
1. TRUCK WILL RANDOMLY STALL WHILE RUNNING OR IN IDLE POSITION. THIS OCCURRED STARTING AROUND MARCH 1ST OF 2010 AND INCREASED IN OCCURRENCE UP UNTIL IT WAS TOWED TO NORTHERN AUTO OF BERKELEY MICHIGAN THE MORNING OF MAY 28TH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN TO NORTHERN AUTO TWICE BETWEEN MARCH 1ST AND MAY 28TH, BUT COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED BY THEIR MECHANICS. WHEN IT WAS TOWED IN THE MORNING OF MAY 28TH TO NORTHERN AUTO, THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND RECOMMENDED IT BE TAKEN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM NORTHERN AUTO OF BERKELEY MICHIGAN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP OF TROY MICHIGAN ON THE AFTERNOON OF MAY 28TH OF 2010. 2. THE STALLS WOULD HAPPEN SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BELOW 40 MPH OR IDLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ALL POWER, HENCE RENDERING THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES USELESS. THIS DID NOT CAUSE ANY ACCIDENTS BUT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DO SO, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE LOSES SIGNIFICANT STOPPING AND STEERING POWER WHILE STILL MOVING. AT ONE POINT THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. 3. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP OF TROY MICHIGAN REPORTED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY ECM RELAY ON THE INTERNAL POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM). THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED AND IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE IPDM. *TR

MODEL YEAR: 2006 MANUFACTURER: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. MFR'S REPORT DATE: FEB 26, 2010. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V074000 N/A. NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: N/A . COMPONENT: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM. SUMMARY: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. CONSEQUENCE: THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN HAS TWO CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THEY ARE CRACKED INTO TWO PIECES AND ARE ALLOWING CARBON MONIXIDE TO ESCAPE FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ADJACENT TO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LETHAL FAILURE DUE TO CO POISIONING. NISSAN HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND WILL NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS, EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR REPORTED CASES. MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND I UNDERSTAND NISSAN'S RELUCTANCE, FINANCIALLY, TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS NATURE OF THE DESIGNED FLAW THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE I BELIEVE THAT A RECALL IS JUSTIFIED. I AM VERY WILLING TO TAKE THE STEPS REQUIRED TO INITIATE A RECALL, BUT I AM NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN. I MADE A TURN ONTO AN ON RAMP GOING ABOUT 15 MILES AN HOUR WHEN IT FELT LIKE I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I LOOKED AND NO ONE WAS THERE. MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING A REALLY BAD POPPING NOISE SO I HAD IT TOWED TO MEINEKE WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS OUT. SO I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS AND DENIED MY CLAIM FOR THEM TO FIX IT. PRICE TAG FOR THE REPAIR IS 3300 NOT INCLUDING TAXES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD MOVE FROM THE LEFT THEN TO THE RIGHT SIDE WHEN SHIFTED INTO 4-WHEEL DRIVE . ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 2 MPH IN THE REVERSE POSITION, THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNUSUALLY LOUD POPPING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS HAD SEPARATED AND THE FRONT PINION BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
MY GRANDSON OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN PICK UP, HE MADE A TURN INTO OUR STREET AND BED OF THE TRUCK, LITERALLY BECAME TWISTED AND NOT ALIGN WITH THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. HE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. WHEN HE TOOK THE TRUCK DOWN TO THE DEALERS THEY ADVISE HIM THAT BOLTS AND COME LOOSE AND THE WOULD CHARGE 300.00 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR. WE HAVE OWN A LOT OF TRUCKS IN MY LIFE TIME AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO ANY OF THE TRUCK WE OWN. WHAT TYPE OF COMPANY SEES NO DANGER IN THIS. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. AND ALL THEY COULD THINK ABOUT WAS THE CHARGE. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD WANT TO FIND OUT WHY THIS HAPPEN. SINCERELY A VER CONCERN GRANDMOTHER AND SOON TO BE GREATMOTHER. *TR
MY REAR DIFF HAS BEEN MAKING NOISES FOR THE PAST 4000 MILES. TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP TWO TIMES AND THEY COULDN'T FIND IT. NOW THE REAR IS SHOT AND IM OVER MY WARRANTY NOW BY 1000 MILES,SO THEY WONT DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
THE DOOR HANDLES AND LOCKS BOTH FAIL TO WORK WHEN TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW AROUND 20 DEGREES. SOMETIMES THEY SIMPLY WONT OPEN, AND OTHER TIMES THEY WILL OPEN BUT WON'T LATCH WHEN THE DOOR SHUTS. THE DILEMMA IS USUALLY SIMPLY FRUSTRATING, HOWEVER SOMETIMES THEY SLIGHTLY LATCH AND APPEAR TO BE SHUT AND FULLY LATCHED, BUT THEN WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION THE DOOR WILL FLING OPEN ON A TURN. *TR
FRONT DRIVER SIDE AXEL IS FALLING OUT OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL.. *TR
I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I PULLED AWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH I THOUGHT I WAS REARENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND THE REAREND WAS POPPING AND GRINDING. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT AND DID NOT SEE ANY FLUID OR SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO THE DRIVELINE. I TRIED TO BACK UP AND PULL FORWARD AND THE REAR WHEELS WERE LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE STOPPED SO VIOLENTLY WHEN IT HAPPENED IF I HAD BEEN GOING ANY FASTER I AM SURE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. DEALER SAID REPAIR WILL BE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE REAREND AT A COST OF $3500.00 FOR A USED UNIT. *CN
NISSAN TITAN FRONT & REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE - I PURCHASED THE NISSAN TITAN - OFF ROAD/BIG TOW PACKAGE IN JULY 2005 AND PRIMARILY USED THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. EXPERIENCED A SLIGHT CLICKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END AND BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS DAMAGED AND THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE WAS NOT ATTACHED TO THE DIFFERENTIAL. WHILE AT THE DEALER I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE REAR END. FIRST THEY STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THEN 24 LATER AFTER CONSIDERATE PROMPTING THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR END NEED TO BE REPLACED. NISSAN USA PAID FOR THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL (PARTS ONLY) AND HAS REJECTED MY REQUEST TO REPLACE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND OTHER SITES NISSAN NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
2/3/10: 2005 NISSAN TITAN BREAKS DOWN ON HWY 71 AT THE LIGHT RIGHT BEFORE THE ENTRANCE TO THE AIRPORT. MY 120 LBS FIANC HAS TO WORK TO PUSH THE TRUCK OUT OF THE LANE WITH CARS RACING BY AT 60 MPH WITH OUR 8 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER. 2/4/10: ENGAGED TERRY WISDOM WITH MAXWELL NISSAN IN ROUND ROCK AND HE WORKED TO HAVE MY ECM RELAY SWITCHED OUT AND CHARGES $340.06 FOR THE REPAIR.12/29/10: RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE ADVISES TO CONTACT NISSAN DEALER. 12/30/10: - ENGAGED SERVICE ADVISOR AT MAXWELL NISSAN IN RR ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEIR RECENT WORK IN FEBRUARY. SHE ADVISED I HAVE TO CALL INTO NISSANS 800 NUMBERS IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE RECALL. SHE OFFERS MINIMAL ASSISTANCE WITH BRIDGING THAT GAP. I ASKED HER TO HAVE HER SUPERVISOR ENGAGE. SUPERVISORS CALLS BACK AND ADVISES THAT I HAVE CALL INTO NISSANS 800. PROVIDES DOCUMENTS, I ASK FOR ASSISTANCE? AND STATES HIS DEALERSHIPS CAN NOT GET INVOLVED. I SHOULD HAVE "CONSIDER TOYOTA OR FORD WITH MY PURCHASE" BUT MY ISSUES ARE WITH A NISSAN. CONTACT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA KALA ADVISES TO GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PART RE-REPLACED DUE TO THE SERVICE TOOK PLACE IN FEB AND THIS RECALL STATES ANYTHING BEFORE NOVEMBER HAS TO ALSO BE REPLACED. I ADVISED THAT MY CHECK FOR SERVICE IF FEBRUARY WAS CUT TO HIS DEALERSHIP AND FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THE ENGAGEMENT, HE WOULD NOT. AFTER DRIVING IN SNOW FOR APPROX. 100 MILES MY FRONT DIFF. BROKE. WAS TOLD THE DRIVETRAIN WAS WAY TO WEAK TO HANDLE A 5.6 V8. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HEARD A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, AT TIMES FROM A STANDING STILL POSITION THE VEHICLE AS YOU TRY TO GO WILL SLIP AND YOU WILL HEAR CLANKING NOISES FROM THE REAR AND THE VEHICLE WILL JERK. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A DEFECTIVE DIFFERENTIAL. *TR
TRUCK WILL NOT BRAKE QUICKLY. I HAVE HAD TO RUN OFF THE ROAD MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO CARS IN FRONT OF ME BRAKING. TRUCK HAS TROUBLE SLOWING DOWN.
2005 NISSAN TITAN, DRIVING ON GRAVEL ROAD IN 4WD AND I HAD GOTTEN STUCK IN 1 INCH OF SNOW. I REALIZED THAT MY 4WD WAS NOT WORKING ANY LONGER. I EXITED MY TRUCK AND GOT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL JUST IN TIME TO STOP ON COMING TRAFFIC THAT COULD OF STRUCK MY TRUCK AND CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY TO ME AND MY PASSENGER. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT, AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE A NEW OR USED FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FOR THE TRUCK. THE WHOLE DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS REPLACED AND HERE I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE PART BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY. I HAVE NOTICED ON SEVERAL THREADS AND FORUMS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE US. I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK HOME FROM WORK AND REAR STARTED MAKING NOISES WITHIN A MILE FROM HOME.LUCKILY IT WAS AROUND MIDNIGHT AND NO ONE WAS ON THE ROAD WHEN IT WENT OUT AS I TURNED ONTO MY ROAD AND INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHERE THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT OUT OF TRUCK.I HAD TO ENGAGE THE 4X4 TO GET IT OUT OF THE WAY IN MY DRIVEWAY.I HAVEN'T HAD IT REPAIRED JUST YET DUE TO THE FACT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY.LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE WAY SOMEWHERE WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK AND IT WENT OUT BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD RESULT. THE REAR END FAILURES ARE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
COMPLETE REAR END FAILURE OF MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN WHILE DRIVING 45MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. FAILURE HAPPENED AT 62500 MILES AND IS THE FIRST TIME TO MY KNOWLEDGE (PRE-OWNED). REAREND IS BEING REPLACED BY NISSAN SERVICE CENTER AT A COST OF $3500 THAT HAS TO BE PAID PERSONALLY AS THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY 2500 MILES OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY AND IT APPEARS DOUBTFUL THAT NISSAN WILL ASSIST OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE SEVERE DESIGN FLAW.*CW

NISSAN REPAIRED THE FIRST TIME DUE TO OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE BECAUSE THEY MUST KNOW THE REPAIR THEY DO WILL FAIL AGAIN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS STILL BEING DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT HAS NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR WHEELS SUDDENLY LOCKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT AND REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
MY TITAN, AS I'M DRIVING HESITATES, OR MOMENTARILY CUTS RESPONSE, AND MY ENGINE STALLS AND TURNS OFF, I HAVE SINCE THEN FOUND OUT THAT MY IPDM WAS THE RESPONSIBLE COMPONENT FOR SUCH STALLS.....IT HAPPENS TWICE A DAY AT UNGIVEN TIMES, I REPLACED THE IPDM AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. *TR

2005 NISSAN TITAN, REAR AXLE SEALS ARE LEAKING, COULD SPRAY ONTO BRAKES AND BECOME A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THOUSANDS OF NISSAN TITANS, IF YOU DO AN INTERNET SEARCH ON GOOGLE FOR NISSAN TITAN AXLE SEAL LEAK, YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IF THESE BAD AXLE SEALS CAUSE FLUID TO CONTACT BRAKE ROTOR, IT COULD CAUSE BRAKING ISSUES OR ACCIDENTS. NISSAN HAS A TSB# NTB10-032 THAT DISCUSSES THIS PROBLEM, BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A TICKING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE DURING STARTUP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN TITAN 4WD WITH 57660 MILES. WHILE TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, I EXPERIENCED A REAR END FAILURE. THE ROADS WERE WET FROM RAIN. WHEN I STARTED OFF IN A RIGHT TURN FROM THE STOPLIGHT, THE REAR END STARTED TO CLUNK AND THE TRUCK WAS JERKY. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM CORRECTED ITSELF, BUT UPON RE-ACCELERATING THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR ONCE AGAIN AND LET THE VEHICLE COAST DOWN THE HILL, STILL CLUNKING AND JERKING. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN A STRAIGHT POSITION, THE REAR END JERKED REALLY HARD, AND THEN I CONTINUED ABOUT A 1/2 MILE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE TRUCK WAS MOVED FROM THE SERVICE BAY TO A PARKING SPACE AND THE ATTENDANT NOTICED THAT THE REAR END WAS JERKING AND CLUNKING IN A TURNING POSITION. HE PARKED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE SERVICE ADVISER. UPON INSPECTION BY THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SPIDER GEARS WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR END HOUSING SHOULD BE REPLACED RATHER THAN TRYING TO REPLACE THE INTERNAL MECHANISMS. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY WITH 2340 MILES LEFT ON THE WARRANTY. THE FACTORY WARRANTIES THE NEW REAR END HOUSING FOR A PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS OR 12000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY WELL MAINTAINED, AND HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD. THERE WAS NO PRIOR INDICATION THAT A PROBLEM EXISTED UNTIL THE VERY MOMENT IT STARED TO FAIL ON THIS DAY. UPON RETURNING TO THE DEALER TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE ADVISER DID AGREE THAT THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND THAT THIS PARTICULAR DEALERSHIP HAD REPLACED MULTIPLE REAR ENDS IN THIS MODEL TRUCK IN RECENT MONTHS. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THIS SAME FAILURE COULD OCCUR AGAIN. THIS COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURRING SHOULD THE FAILURE OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND AS I WENT AROUND A TURN I HEARD A LOUD "POP" AND THEN A THUMPING NOISE. THE TRUCK MADE THE THUMPING NOISE EVERY TIME THAT I WENT AROUND A CORNER. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SPIDER GEARS BLEW OUT. NISSAN IPDM (INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE) WHICH HOUSES THE FUEL PUMP RELAY WILL INADVERTENTLY SHUT OFF POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME FROM A PARKED VEHICLE AND HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THERE IS NO TIMED SEQUENCE AS TO WHEN THIS HAPPENS, BUT WHEN IT DOES YOU LOSE POWER TO THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN HAD A REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE AT APPROX. 73,000 MILES. THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING/RATCHETING SOUND AND THEN THE FAILURE. NISSAN (OR NO ONE ELSE, FOR THAT MATTER) WILL NOT SELL REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THIS PROBLEM. YOU CAN ONLY PURCHASE THE "ENTIRE UNIT", AT A COST OF $3500.00, WHICH IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS, SINCE IT IS ONLY A PART OF THE ENTIRE UNIT THAT HAS FAILED. HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL THAT DESCRIBED THE EXACT FAILURE HE WAS EXPERIENCING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V074000- FUEL SYSTEM OTHER: STORAGE: FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM). THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS ON HIS VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE REGIONAL MANAGER WHO STATED THAT IN ORDER FOR HIM TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED AT NO COST HE NEEDED TO PRESENT THE ACTUAL RECALL LETTER. NO ONE CONFIRMED IF HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OR NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
