I HAVE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY ANTI FREEZE AND ANTI FREEZE IN MY TRANSMISSION. IM TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A KNOWN NISSAN ISSUE. APPARENTLY SOMETHING IN THE RADIATOR ROTS AND THE FLUIDS MIX CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE. MINE HASN'T FAILED YET, BUT MY FLUIDS ARE ALL CONTAMINATED AS IS THE RADIATOR AND TRANNY?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK, (I PUT IN 14+ GALLONS OF GAS )THE FUEL GAUGE REMAINED @ 1/4 TANK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AFTER DRIVING FOR 24 HOURS, THE GAS GAUGE BEGINS TO GO TO FULL BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON--THIS HAPPENED ON 2 OCCASIONS AND SINCE THE GAUGE SEEMED TO BE WORKING , THE MECHANIC RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (IT CAME UP WITH FUEL GAUGE ERROR CODE), THIS HAPPENED LAST WEEK AND AGAIN YESTERDAY I CHECKED THE DATA BASE FOR MY VIN # AND THERE IS NO RECALLS, BUT I SEE THERE ARE OTHER NHTSA RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER NISSAN XTERRA'S WILL THE DEALER REPLACE THIS FREE OF CHARGE ? (FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT ?)
RADIATOR LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION . MY TRUCK IS NOW SITTING AT AAMCO WITH 5200 DOLLARS WORTH OF TRANSMISSION RADIATOR AND COMPUTER BOARD DAMAGE.
WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION LINES AND THUS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. SIMPLE, INEXPENSIVE FIX TO REPLACE THE FAULTY RADIATOR WAS NOT COMMUNICATED TO ME AND NOW IT'S TOO LATE TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN GOT AWAY WITH MURDER AND CAUSED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MONEY THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS. THESE PARTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AS THEY CAUSE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. HAVING YOUR TRANSMISSION FAIL ON YOU WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. BUT BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ACTUALLY DIED FROM IT A RECALL WAS NOT REQUIRED.

COOLANT LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE SHUTTERING, SHAKING AND OVERALL UNSAFE FOR MYSELF AND MY 5-YEAR OLD SON.
LIKE COUNTLESS OTHERS, I HAVE THE SMOD, OR STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE OF DEATH, ON MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA S. THE RADIATOR FAILED, WHICH ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS RESULTS IN THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR. NISSAN KNEW ABOUT THIS EARLY ON AND DID NOTHING TO HELP OWNERS UNTIL FORCED TO BY SETTLING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THE LAWSUIT WAS USELESS TO ME AS I WAS ALREADY PAST THE PERIOD COVERED BY THE SETTLEMENT. ALL I COULD DO WAS WAIT AND HOPE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO ME. THAT HOPE ENDED YESTERDAY.
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2015. DEALER STATED VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED AND NEW RADIATOR INSTALLED. IN JUNE 2016, TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS DRAINED AS REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND FLUID WAS CONTAMINATED WITH ENGINE COLLANT, THEREFORE, TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD NOT BEEN FULLY FLUSHED AND REPLACED. FLUSHED TRANSMISSION WITH NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID TO REMOVE CONTAMINATED FLUID. IN JULY 2016, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WOULD NOT START DUE TO A BLOWN FUSE. DETERMINED THAT CONTAMINATED FLUID HAD CORRODED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, CAUSING THE BLOWN FUSES AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3000. THE VEHICLE HAS 140,000 MILES ON IT THEREFORE, DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT OR THE EXTENSION (HTTPS://WWW.NCCONSUMER.ORG/NEWS-ARTICLES/SETTLEMENT-REACHED-IN-LAWSUIT-AGAINST-NISSAN-OVER-FAILED-RADIATORS-TRANSMISSIONS.HTML) NISSAN MOTOR CORPORATION WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS OIL COOLER / RADIATOR ASSEMBLY YET CHOSE TO NOT ADDRESS THE DESIGN DEFECT BY ISSUING A RECALL OR EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO COVER THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT DUE TO THE HANDLING OF THIS ISSUE.
TLA* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO MEADOWLANDS NISSAN IN HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR LEAKED AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000. I BOUGHT MY XTERRA IN SEPT. 2014 AND JUST THIS LAST MONTH. NOT EVEN PUTTING 20,000 MILES ON IT AND STILL HAVE A LOAN ON IT HAD TO PUT 4700 INTO IT BECAUSE OF THE RADIATOR FLUID RUNNING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. IT WAS FINE ONE DAY AND THE NEXT DAY I WAS GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR AND IT STARTS JERKING ON ME AND WOULDN'T GO OVER 20 MILES AN HOUR. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN A ACCIDENT WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THIS. WHAT I HAVE READ FROM OTHER PEOPLE THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT. DON'T YOU THINK NISSAN WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIX THEIR MISTAKES!

RADIATOR LEAKING FLUID INTO TRANSMISSION, DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE AND ADD AN EXTERNAL COOLING SYSTEM SO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. $4800. MILEAGE IS 109K. NISSAN'S FORCED EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED SO NO HELP FROM THEM. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY NISSAN DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN. NISSAN ALSO SAID "IT MIGHT HAPPEN TO CERTAIN TRANSMISSIONS", BUT IN FACT HAPPENS TO ALL XTERRA TRANSMISSIONS AT LEAST FOR 2006. NISSAN HAS HAD TOO MANY ENGINE/DRIVE TRAIN ISSUES ON THE MANY NISSAN'S I HAVE PURCHASED OVER THE YEARS. I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANOTHER NISSAN.
THE FUEL SENDER UNIT IS ERRATIC. SHOWS EMPTY WHEN FUEL IS HALF TANK OR FULL. TRIGGERS CHENK ENGINE LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY.
FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE RADIATOR CAUSING IT TO FAIL. NISSAN ESTIMATED THE REPAIR TO BE $9400.00 THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE.
I WAS DRIVING NISSAN XTERRA ON THE BUSY STREET AND SUDDENLY I NOTICE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I STOPPED THE CAR ON THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT AND TRIED TO GO AWAY FROM THE CAR. I WAS SCARED IT WILL BLOW UP. AFTER FEW MINUTES THE SMOKE STOPPED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I CALLED TOWING AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME IT IS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. IT WAS TRULY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
OWNER 2006 NISSAN XTERRA WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE HAD SHOOK THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND FOUND ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH 75,000 MILES IN OCTOBER 2015. AT 84,000 MILES, I NOTICED A CLUNK AND VEHICLE SLOWED ALL THE WAY DOWN WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING INTO DRIVE AT ABOUT 45 MILES AN HOUR. I WAS DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED WAY DOWN EVEN THOUGH I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I WAS NEARLY REARENEDED DUE TO THE SUDDEN STALL DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS CONTAMINATED WITH RADIATOR FLUIDS. THERE'S WAS A DEDUCTIBLE OF $3,000, WHAT A SAVINGS (SARCASM). IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. HOW COULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SOMETHING THAT EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED, ESPECIALLY IF NISSA KNEW ABOUT THIS VERY COMMON PROBLEM. NISSAN REALLY HAS LET ME DOWN. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN UNLESS I AM REIMBURSED FOR MOST OF WHATI PAID. I AM ALSO EXTREMELY UPSET THAT I VERY EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION, ESPECIALLY AS I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN JUST ENTERING THE INTERSTATE WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70 MPH AND I SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN DUE TO THE FAILING TRANSMISSION.
THE SOURCE OF THE CONTAMINATION IS A CRACKED ATF LINE THAT RUNS THROUGH AN ENGINE COOLANT CHAMBER IN THE RADIATOR. I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION.
THE TRANSMISSION IS DAMAGED BECAUSE OF A FAULTY RADIATOR THAT LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IT TO FAIL. MY CAR WAS A STANDSTILL AND I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AND MY CAR BARELY MOVED CAUSING THE ONCOMING CAR TO SWERVE AND SLAM HIS BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING ME. THIS A A SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS IN THE CAR.

I HAVE A FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE NYSSA XTERRA RECALL, GAUGE REACHES 3/4 TANK BUT WON'T GO LOWER. THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT DROPS TO EMPTY. MY LOCAL NISSAN, ALLEN JAY NISSAN SAYS MY VIN IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL AND THEY AREN'T FIXING THE PROBLEM, THEY JUST EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. WELL MY CAR IS 10YEARS OLD AND NO LONGER HAS A WARRANTY AT 182,000 MILES. I WON'T PAY $400 TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT. WHO DO I CONTACT AT NISSAN TO FIGHT THIS INJUSTICE?

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR FRACTURED AND CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
THE DEALER INFORMED ME AFTER REPLACING MY TRANSMISSION THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONS GUIDES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK HAS 82K MILES AND GETS REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I RESEARCH THE ISSUE ON THE WEB AND THIS IS A CHRONIC DESIGN PROBLEM. THE ENGINE COULD INCUR SEVERE DAMAGE DURING USE WHICH COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF CONTROL AND SEVERE ACCIDENT.
THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN COMPONENTS ARE WEARING AND COULD BREAK RESULTING IN AN ENGINE ABRUPT STOPPAGE. MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS CONDITION. NISSAN DESIGN DEFECT.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I STARTED HEARING A WEIRD SOUND COMING FROM THE CAR AN IT STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I ABOUT GOT HIT WHEN ALL THE CARS WERE FLYING PASS ME AND I WAS TRYING TO GET OVER. I CALLED THE DEALER AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND AFTER ALMOST GETTING KILLED ALL THEY HAD TO TELL ME WAS IT WASN'T THERE PROBLEM AN THAT IT WOULD COST ME OVER 3000 TO FIX. I JUST GOT THIS CAR USED AND STILL OWE OVER 8000 ON IT. I CANT EVEN DRIVE IT. THIS IS SO UNSAFE SOMEBODY IS GOING TO END UP DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. IF IT HASNT ALREADY KILLED SOME PEOPLE.
ENGINE DIED ON THE WAY TO WORK BECAUSE OF A RECALL UNKNOWN TO ME BUT SHARED WITH ME AFTER MY MECHANIC FOUND INFORMATION ON RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON BUSY STREETS IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA, OUR 2006 NISSAN XTERRA LOST FORWARD POWER WHILE NAVIGATING A RIGHT TURN ONTO ANOTHER BUSY STREET. VEHICLE NEVER LOST ELECTRICAL POWER, BUT HAD NO MECHANICAL POWER. THERE WERE OTHER VEHICLES DRIVING OPPOSITE ME AS WELL AS VEHICLES BEHIND ME. IT WAS LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS FORCED INTO NEUTRAL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE, THEY STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NISSAN XTERRAS AND FRONTIERS THAT THE RADIATOR COMMUNICATES WITH THE TRANSMISSION CREATING A RESULTANT NEED FOR A REBUILD OF THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR AND COOLANT FLUSH. FOR THIS TO OCCUR WHILE DRIVING IS DANGEROUS NOT ONLY TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF THE VEHICLE, BUT IT POSES A PUBLIC RISK AS WELL AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY/DEATH. NISSAN USA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SUCH REPAIRS AS THEY CONSTITUTE A SAFETY CONCERN WHILE DRIVING THEIR VEHICLES.
MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA BEGAN SHUDDERING AS IF THE CAR WAS RIDING ON RUMBLE STRIPS, WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPEED. WHEN THE OD IS OFF IT DOES NOT SHUDDER/RUMBLE. AFTER AN INSPECTION AND RESEARCH WE DETERMINED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CAUSING THE CAR TO SHUDDER. WE HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF OUR CAR AND THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR AND IT SHOULD NOT BE PAID FOR BY THE CONSUMERS!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE FLIPPED AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT UNFASTENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V690000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 190,000.
AT 115,000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION DIED. IN ONE WEEK IT WENT FROM A FEW JERKY SHIFTS TO ME CRAWLING INTO THE DEALER NOT BEING ABLE TO GO OVER 20 MPH. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAKED FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND BASICALLY SHREDDED THE TRANSMISSION. IM NOW STUCK WITH A 3700 DOLLAR REPAIR BILL.
RECENTLY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD IT DIAGNOSED AS THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. AFTER FILLING GAS TANK WITH GAS NOW GAUGE STAYS BELOW EMPTY AND LOW GAS LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAY ON. DEALER SAID AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND MILEAGE HAD ALSO BEEN EXTENDED TO 72000 MILES. I JUST HIT 80000 MILES. THE DEALER WANTS $550 TO FIX. WAY TOO MUCH FOR A KNOWN DEFAULT.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK, WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE STAFF THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS CONTAMINATED WITH COOLANT THAT HAD LEAKED FROM THE RADIATOR. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT OTHER NISSAN MAKES, MODELS BETWEEN 2004-2006 HAD A DESIGN FLAW WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM IN WHICH I NOW FACE.. I CONTACTED NISSAN FOR SOME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ON THE REPAIR ON MY TRANSMISSION, SINCE IT APPEARS THAT THE ISSUES RELATED TO MY PROBLEM ARE FROM A FLAW IN THE DESIGNS OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS OVER A 100,000 MILES AND PAST THE WARRANTY, THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE AS FAR ASSISTING ME WITH THE REPAIRS. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT AGAIN.... IT SHOULD BE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAIN NISSAN REGARDING THE VERY PROBLEM THAT I'M FACED DEALING WITH...

TRANSMISSION COOLER CRACKED CAUSING WATER/ANTI-FREEZE TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION. CAR STILL RUNS, BUT ACCORDING TO MECHANIC, TRANSMISSION DOESN'T HAVE MUCH LIFE LEFT. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IS $4700.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND MY TRUCK RPM STARTED TO GO UP TO 4000 RPM. I PULLED OVER BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT A BELT HAD BROKEN. AFTER CHECKING ALL THE BELT WERE GOOD BUT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GO IN GEAR SO I KNEW IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON THE NISSAN SITE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THIS WAS A KNOW ISSUE WITH MOST NISSAN VEHICLES. IT CAUSED ME $3000 TO GET MY TRUCK FIXED BEING THAT THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW NISSAN HAS NOT RECALLED VEHICLES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF I HAD TAKEN MY NORMAL ROUTE AND WENT ON THE INTERSTATE. WITH THE WAY THE TRUCK JUST STOPPED IT WOULD HAVE CALLED A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
I HAVE A FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED BY NISSAN BUT DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE MY VIN AS PART OF THE RECALL. I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY NISSAN OWNERS REGARDING AN INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE AS A RESULT OF FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT. AS NOTED IN THE RECALL (CAMPAIGN ID# PC042): "NISSAN IS CONDUCTING A VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN ON CERTAIN MY2006 AND 2008 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES TO ADDRESS A POTENTIAL FUEL GAUGE INACCURACY. SPECIFICALLY, THE ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS ACTUALLY EMPTY. TO REMEDY THIS POTENTIAL CONDITION, NISSAN IS CONDUCTING THIS VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WITH A NEW ONE AT NO CHARGE FOR PARTS OR LABOR." THIS IS ACCURATE TO MY PROBLEM WHERE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ INACCURATELY AT ANY POINT, LEAVING THE OPERATOR WITH UNCERTAINTY OF FUEL LEVEL AND POTENTIAL DISABLED VEHICLE, LEADING TO POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING SITUATIONS. AT ONE POINT I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO QUICKLY MAKE IT ACROSS THREE LANES TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT, EVEN THOUGH MY FUEL GAUGE READ OVER 1/4 TANK. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE WHERE I WAS TOLD I RAN OUT OF GAS AND HAD TO PAY FOR TOWING, GAS, ETC AS A RESULT OF FAULTY NISSAN PARTS.
THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THE PROBLEM CODE IS PO 463. THE REFERENCE NUMBER IS: NTB07-069D. A RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE MODEL AND MAKE OF MY VEHICLE WAS ON YOUR SITE NOVEMBER 30, 2010. MY FUEL GAUGE IS ERRATIC, THE SENSOR IS FAULTY, NISSAN REFUSES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS , ACCORDING TO THEIR TENNESSEE OFFICE, MY VIN NUMBER HAS NO OPEN RECALLS. I NOW HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE COST IS APPROXIMATELY $400.00. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE SERVICE I RECEIVED FROM NISSAN.

IN OCTOBER 2015 I NOTICED THAT MY XTERRA WAS OVERHEATING AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AT TIMES. WHEN I REMOVED THE RADIATOR CAP TO CHECK THE COOLANT, IT LOOKED FOAMY AND MILKY, LIKE A LIME SMOOTHIE. I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC, WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH NISSAN RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION CROSS-CONTAMINATION. HE TOLD ME THAT FLUSHING THE SYSTEMS WOULD NOT HELP AND THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $6500, WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE. HE TOLD ME TO CONTACT NISSAN. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THE TIME MY XTERRA WAS DIAGNOSED, IT HAD 112,000 MILES ON IT, WHICH WAS BEYOND THE SCOPE OF NISSAN'S EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH CAME ABOUT AS A RESULT OF THE CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT. THE ONLY THING THEY DID FOR ME WAS GIVE ME A REFUND ON A RECALL ITEM FOR WHICH I'D PAID BEFORE THE RECALL CAME OUT. THEY ALSO OFFERED ME A "BUSINESS ASSOCIATE'S" DISCOUNT ON ANOTHER NISSAN--AS IF I'D BUY ONE AFTER THIS! BECAUSE I AM MOBILITY CHALLENGED, I MUST HAVE A VEHICLE TO GET TO WORK, DOCTORS' VISITS, ETC. I WAS FORCED TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PAYMENTS HAVE ME SO STRAPPED FOR CASH THAT ONCE I GET MY BILLS PAID THERE'S NOTHING LEFT FOR GROCERIES OR PET FOOD, MUCH LESS PUTTING GAS IN MY CAR! I AM SO DISGUSTED WITH NISSAN FOR PUTTING ME IN THIS POSITION I CAN'T EVEN PUT IT INTO WORDS.
NO PROBLEMS IN FIVE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THE FOLLOWING TOOK PLACE IN LESS THAN 7 DAYS. TRUCK WAS FUELED UP AT COSTCO AND 30 MINUTES LATER WAS SHUDDERING WHEN STOPPED, WE THOUGHT WE GOT A BAD TANK OF GAS. TRUCK HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MISFIRING CYLINDER, COIL REPLACED. TWO DAYS LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. REPLACED O2 SENSOR. A DAY OR TWO LATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. HAD A LOSS OF POWER. TRUCK WAS IN LIMP MODE. DROVE TO THE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED REPLACING THE FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER (RIGHT REAR) AND THE TIMING CHAIN, TENSIONERS ETC. SALESMAN SAID THAT WE SHOULD HAVE CHANGED THE TIMING CHAIN AT 60,000 MILES. WHICH I HAVE NEVER SEEN LISTED IN THE MAINTENANCE. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED USED AT 64,000 MILES.

SUSPECTED BLOWN HEAD GASKET BUT MY MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH NISSANS WHICH INVOLVED INTERMINGLING OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT RELATIVE TO THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS NOT 10 YEARS OLD AS YET, IT HAD 112K MILES ON IT. NISSAN REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THEY KNEW ABOUT BUT ON WHICH NO RECALL WAS EVER DONE. THEY OFFERED ME A CRAPPY DISCOUNT TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE. CONSIDERING HOW MUCH THEY STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT THAT I OWNED, I DIDN'T CHOOSE THAT OPTION. IF I COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY $6K TO REPLACE THE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION, WHAT MADE THEM THINK I COULD AFFORD TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE? I HAD TO USE THE NISSAN TO GET TO WORK, THE GROCERY STORE, DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS, ETC., KNOWING THAT AT ANY TIME THE VEHICLE COULD FAIL OR SEIZE UP. HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL EACH TIME IT STOPPED TO KEEP IT FROM BOILING OVER. VERY STRESSFUL, PARTICULARLY AS I AM HANDICAPPED AND MORE VULNERABLE THAN MANY.
COOLENT LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION. AFTER PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN SEVERAL TIMES, THE CAR WAS NOT GETTING UP TO SPEED AS NORMAL. IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO CAR REPAIR SHOP, WHICH INFORMED US THIS WAS ONE OF SEVERAL NISSAN CARS THEY HAD DEALT WITH RECENTLY AND GUESSED CORRECTLY OUR ISSUE. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT, VERY COSTLY.
