TRANSMISSION COOLER INSIDE RADIATOR FAILED, CAUSING ANTIFREEZE TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. AT 91,000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING MY "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT APPEAR, TODAY I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TO FIX IT. TO MAKE SHORT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEEDS REPLACEMENT ($4,600.00 DLLS)BECAUSE THERE'S ANTIFREEZE IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. ONLINE I FOUND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON TO 2006 XTERRAS, FUNNY THING IS NISSAN KNOW ALL ABOUT IT, BUT SO FAR HASN'T CALL A RECALL TO FIX THEIR OWN MESS. ANOTHER THING, I'VE GOT SERVICED MY VEHICLE AT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP S AND NEVER EVER MAKE A SIMPLE COMMENT OR ADVISED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR TO ME ON MY PRIOR VISITS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY ARE RECKLESS FOR HOLDING CRITICAL INFO ABOUT PREVENTABLE ISSUES, SPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW ON THEIR PART
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE RADIATOR FRACTURED AND THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK. THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL COOLER WITHIN THE RADIATOR WAS FAULTY. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000. *TT *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM GOING INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN CALIFORNIA, I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SERVICED AT NISSAN DEALERS FROM CALIFORNIA TO CONNECTICUT, FROM UNIVERSAL CITY NISSAN IN LOS ANGELES TO BRUCE BENNETT IN WILTON, CT WITH STOPS IN BETWEEN. IN A NORMAL SERVICE CHECK, IT STATES ON ALL INVOICES THAT FLUIDS ARE CHECKED. TODAY SIR, I FOUND OUT THAT FLUIDS ARE NOT CHECKED AND DUE TO NISSAN'S NEGLIGENCE MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION ARE NOW MARRIED (INTERMIX) AND SINCE THAT MARRIAGE A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION ARE BEING REQUIRED. IF YOU HAD PERFORMED THE PROPER FLUID CHECKS, THEN THE MARRIAGE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED AND NO REPLACEMENT NECESSARY. I WANT COMPENSATION, I.E. RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION ON THIS 12 YEAR XTERRA.
VEHICLE RADIATOR RUSTED INTERNALLY, THEREFORE INTERMIX COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. AUTOMOBILE CONSTANTLY SERVICED AT NISSAN DEALERS, NO WARNING FROM NISSAN.
I WAS DRIVING, AND STOPPED FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AT A CONVENENT STORE, AND WHEN STATED THE CAR, IT WONT GO FORWARD AS NORMAL, LOST POWER WITH NO WARNINGS AND WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT THE CARBURETOR WAS LEAKING SOME FLUID TO THE TRANSMISSION.
ON 6/12/2018 PULLED INTO MY GARAGE AT HOME AND ON TURNING ENGINE OFF SAW ELECTRICAL SPARK UNDER HOOD AND SUV WENT UP IN FLAMES. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT AVAILABLE.
RADIATOR DESIGN FAILURE ALLOWED MIXING OF ANTIFREEZE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID. CAUSED FAILURE OF BOTH RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. NISSAN PREVIOUSLY OFFERED ASSISTANCE IN REPAIR BUT DISCONTINUED. WILL NOT REPAIR MY XTERRA AS IS NOW PAST EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT WELL UNDER TOTAL MILES. OVERHEATING IN TRAFFIC STOP LEAD TO FAILURE. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL 2005-2007 XTERRAS AND FRONTIERS WITH DEFECTIVE RADIATOR. NISSAN TOOK NO ACTION TO NOTIFY OWNERS THAT HAS NOT HAD REPAIR. NISSAN ONLY NOTIFIED OWNERS THAT HAD EXPERIENCED FAILURE AND OFFERED TO COMPENSATE COSTS. FAILURE WAS PREVENTABLE WITH A FAIRLY SIMPLE BY PASS OF THE TRANSMISSION COOLER OR A REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR TO A REDESIGNED VERSION NISSAN ISSUED IN 2010. MANY OWNERS WERE HELPED BY NISSAN PREVIOUSLY BECAUSE OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. NOW, NISSAN IS NO LONGER ASSISTING OWNERS WITH THE FAILURE EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL CAUSED BY THE DESIGN FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR AND NOT ANY ACTION BY THE OWNER. IF THE OWNER HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE HARDER AND ADDED MORE MILES FASTER AND EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE, NISSAN WOULD HAVE COMPENSATED THEM I. WHOLE OR IN PART. OWNERS WITH LOW MILEAGE AND OLDER VECHICLES THAT ARE NOW EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE OR WILL IN THE FUTURE ARE NOT BEING ASSISTED BY NISSAN. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE DONE A COMPLETE RECALL OF ALL VECHICLES WITH THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR. OWNERS ARE NOW FORCED TO BEAR COSTS OF $7,000 IN REPAIRS. A TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IF THE TRANSMISSION WERE TO LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING. FORTUNATELY MY TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED SLOWLY AND THE RADIATOR FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC SO THE VECHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. NISSAN SHOULD BE MADE TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR PRIOR EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER ANY FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR CAUSING CONTAMINATION OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. FAILURE IS REFERRED TO AS STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE OF DEATH.
LEAKING COOLANT IS MIXING WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID THROUGH THE COOLER LINES TO CREATE A TOXIC HELL STEW THAT IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGES EVERYTHING AROUND IT.
GAS GAUGE DOESN'T READ THE FUEL LEVEL CORRECTLY. TANK COULD BE EMPTY AND THE GAUGE READS THE TANK AS NOT EMPTY AND VICE VERSA. VEHICLE STOPPED ON EMPTY TANK EVEN TOUGH THE GAUGE SHOWED I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS.
Car just shut off in traffic loosing all power and braking causing me to crash into the back of a stopped car at a red-light. After inspection from a mechanic shop, they informed me that something in the computer had fried causing the car to shut off, and it had also caused the transmission control unit module to go bad making the car not drive able.
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK TO FULL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND THE GAS GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY WITH THE "NO FUEL" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS IS THAT SAME ISSUES THAT NISSAN WAS HAVING WITH CAMPAIGN ID 10V075000
AFTER FILLING MY GODMOTHER'S 2006 NISSAN XTERRA GAS TANK FROM 1/4 TO FULL, I NOTICE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THAT THE GAS NEEDLE NEVER MOVED FROM THE 1/4 MARK. BUT BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS APPROX. 20-25 MILES AWAY, I NOTICED THE GAS NEEDLE JUST REACHED 1/2 MARK AND "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" ILLUMINATED. PER MY CODE READER, I PULLED A CODE FOR THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. MY GODMOTHER TOOK THE TRUCK TO A REPAIR SHOP WHEREIN THE MECHANIC CHARGED HER TO ERASED THE CODE WITHOUT TROUBLESHOOTING, & INSISTED THAT SHE DRIVE UNTIL CODE RETURNED. IN THE MEANTIME, I FOUND A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN REF. NTB 10-031. IT IS A VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR 2006 & 2008 XTERRA (N50), WHICH TO MY KNOWLEDGE THIS IS. I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA (CASE #31357696/ AGENT ID: 7319344) & GAVE THE VIN #. THE AGENT STATED THERE WAS NO OPEN OR CURRENT RECALL(S)/BULLETIN(S) ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VIN NUMBER. I INFORMED HER THAT I WAS PHYSICALLY LOOKING AT A RECALL, SO SHE ADVISE FIRST THAT I HAVE NISSAN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC WITH THEIR SCANNER & START FROM THERE. I ALSO LET HER KNOW THAT A DIAGNOSTIC COULD BE A COSTLY NON-BENEFICIAL INVESTMENT ESPECIALLY IF NISSAN'S REPAIR ESTIMATE IS TO HIGH. I CALLED NISSAN PASSPORT IN MARLOWE HEIGHTS, MARYLAND AND SPOKE TO A SERVICE ADVISER WHO LATER TOLD ME THAT ONCE CODE IS ACTIVE A DIAGNOSTIC COULD BE PERFORM FOR APPROX. $130. THEN I ASKED, IF THERE WAS A RECALL/BULLETIN WHICH INCLUDED OUR SYMPTOMS BUT APPARENTLY NOT OUR VIN NUMBER COULD IT SOMEHOW BE COVERED. HE REPLIED "NO." SO I THEN ASKED IF HE WOULD LIKE TO GET INFORMATION FROM ME ABOUT OTHER NISSAN PRODUCTS SUCH AS THIS VIN # THAT WAS POSSIBLE FAULTY, AGAIN HE SAID "NO." SO I THEN CALLED NHTSA , & THE AGENT ULTIMATELY GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. WITH THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION I FILED A REPORT/CLAIM (9549774) ABOUT MY TREATMENT WITH NISSAN.
2006 NISSAN XTERRA SE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO TRANSMISSION SAFETY RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPLACEMENT OF PART. *AS *JS
I AM A 64 YR OLD WOMAN DRIVING ACROSS THE COUNTRY ALONE WHEN MY FUEL GAUGE INDICATED I HAVE GAS WHEN I DID NOT. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IN THE REMOTE AREAS THAT I TRAVEL IN UTAH WHERE GAS STATIONS CAN BE 100 MILES APART AND NO CELL COVERAGE. I HAD ONLY 67365 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND DIDNT EXPECT TO HAVE PROBLEMS. I FOUND THAT 2006 XTERRAS WERE RECALLED FOR THOSE MADE IN A 3 MONTH PERIOD, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THEIR VOLUNTARY RECALL. SAME GAS TANK AND SENDING UNIT AS THOSE RECALLED. (CAMPAIGN ID #: PC042 NHTSA #: 10V-075) I AM GUESSING NISSAN DID A PARTIAL VOLUNTARY RECALL IN HOPES THE NHTSA WOULDNT INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. NOW THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS HALF A TANK JUST AFTER A FILLUP AND THEN GRADUALLY JUMPS TO FULL AFTER THE VEHICLE SITS OR IS DRIVEN FOR A BIT. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON UNLESS CLEARED. DIAGNOSTIC SCAN WAS DONE WHICH INDICATED CODE P0463 WHICH IS DEFINED AS A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR SENSOR HIGH CIRCUIT INPUT,
WAS DRIVING IN A 55 ZONE IN MY XTERRA AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER OUTA NO WHERE. GOOD THING NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR I WOULDA BEEN KILLED. SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH ON THIS MODEL YET MY VIN DOES NOT COME UP IN THE SEARCH????
CAR WOULD NOT SWITCH GEARS. IT STAID IN 1ST OR 2ND AND RPM WENT TO RED AS I PULLED AWAY FROM MY PARKING SPOT. TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 105,000 MILES. COST OF REPAIRS: $4,000.00. AFTER RESEARCH ON LINE, FOUND OUT NISSAN NEVER RECALLED THE VEHICLE BUT OFFERED EXTENDED CO-PAYMENT WARRANTY UP TO 100,000 MILES TO AVOID FIXING PROBLEM AS THE FAILURE USUALLY OCCURS AT AROUND 100,000 MILES AND ABOVE. MINE WAS AT 105K. THESE CARS NEEDED TO BE RECALLED AND NOW I'M PAYING $4,000.00 TO FIX A KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN GOT AWAY WITH NOT TAKING FULL RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR.
WE LEARNED TODAY THROUGH OUR MECHANIC THAT THE RATTLING NOISE WE'VE BEEN HEARING IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE "TIMING CHAINS." OUR MECHANIC SAYS THE REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE. WE DISCOVERED ONLINE THERE WAS A RECENTLY SETTLED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT A RECALL BY NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. WHAT IS THE RECOURSE FOR OTHERS WHO ONLY RECENTLY LEARNED OF THIS PROBLEM AND ARE NOW FACING HIGH REPAIR COSTS?

I FILLED UP MY TANK AND YET MY FUEL GAUGE REMAINS AT BELOW 1/4. THIS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 2 RECENT FILLED UPS THE LATEST BEING MADE YESTERDAY. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, I GOT STUCK ON THE ROAD. TODAY , I HAVE TO BRING A GALLON OF GAS WITH ME TO AVOID GETTING STUCK AGAIN. I CALLED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID MY VIN# DOES NOT SHOW ANY RECALL AND WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER THE RECALL PROVISIONS. I SEARCHED EVERYWHERE AND FOUND A SIMILAR SITUTATION UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID#10V07500. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT WHEN MY CAR APPARENTLY FALLS WITHIN THE YEAR OF THE RECALL BUT THE VIN# DOES NOT SHOW ANYTHING. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC . PLEASE HELP, VIN OR NO VIN , MY CAR IS MANIFESTING THE ACTUAL ISSUES OF THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED RECALL CAMPAIGN ON DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TWICE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DUE TO THE LOSS OF FUEL. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW FUEL TANK WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS EXPIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAIL, CAUSING ERRATIC AND INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE READINGS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. NISSAN KNEW ABOUT AN ISSUE WITH THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION SYSTEM TCTS EVEN IN EARLY TESTING OF THE MOTOR AND PRE-PRODUCTION DATING BACK TO 2004. THE TCTS ENSURES THAT THE PISTONS AND VALVES ARE PROPERLY TIMED AND ELIMINATE THE COMING IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER OR CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. NISSAN EVEN ISSUED BEGINNING IN JULY OF 2007 THE TSB TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS INSTRUCTS TECHNICIANS TO REPLACE THE FAULTY TCTS COMPONENTS IF THERE IS A WHINING, CLICKING OR BUZZING SOUNDS. TRANSMISSION DESTROY BY LEAKING RADIATOR ANTIFREEZE INTO TRANSMISSION ALSO CATALYTIC CONVERTERS CLOGGED, MY XTERRA ONLY HAS 70 K MILES ON IT, TO EARLY FOR ALL OF THIS PROBLEMS TO HAPPEN IT'S GOING TO COST ME A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX IT, PLEASE HELP.
TAKATA RECALL TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FALIURE
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, TRANSMISSION FAILED. NO WARNING INDICATIONS, JUST FAILED. THE ENGINE REVVED UP BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 30 MPH. TRANSMISSION FAILED, THE RADIATOR WAS BAD. SO LIKE ALL OTHER NISSAN OWNERS, I'M OUT $3700 FOR THE TRANSMISSION REBUILD TO INCLUDE A NEW RADIATOR AND ANOTHER $300 TO RENT A CAR SO I CAN GET TO WORK. NISSAN YOU ARE VERY IRRESPONSIBLE AND SHOULD BE REIMBURSE YOUR CUSTOMERS, I TEND ON SPREADING THE WORD TO ALL TO AVOID NISSAN BECAUSE OF THEIR LACK OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

HAD TO BE TOWED. AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM THE RADIATOR ON TRANSMISSION FAILED. COME ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE, JUST AS NOTED IN THE SAFETY RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO BUT NISSAN IS NO LONGER SUPPORTING THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WELL, AFTER $3700, MY TRANSMISSION IS REBUILT WITH NEW RADIATOR. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE COVERED THIS SAFETY ISSUE.. I WAS IN TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, IT WAS VERY STRESSFUL AND UNSAFE FOR ME TO CHANGE LANES AND PULL OVER ON A HIGHWAY THAT HAS A 70 MPH LIMIT AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE. EVEN THOUGH I PUT MY FLASHER ON TRAFFIC WAS VERY HEAVY AND IT WAS TRULY UNSAFE FOR NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT MY PASSENGERS AND THOSE CARS BEHIND ME THAT HAD TO SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN BECAUSE OF MY MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL SENSOR SENDING UNIT FOR 2006 XTERRA'S, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. TIMING CHAIN. I AM A MEMBER OF A FEW FORUMS FOR THE NISSAN XTERRA AND FRONTIER. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE TIMING CHAIN, THE TENSION AND GUIDES ARE A ISSUE ON THE 05/06 XTERRA AND FRONTIERS RUNNING THE 4.0 V6. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED BY OWNERS OF THE SAME YEAR XTERRAS BUT IT ONLY RECOGNIZED IN A FEW STATES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND DEEM A RECALL BEFORE TOO MANY MORE XTERRAS BLOW THEIR ENGINES OR HAVE OTHER ISSUES DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE, NISSAN HAS ADMITTED THEY KNOW OF THIS ISSUE TOO. TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST FROM THE DEALER OF $2700. I CONTACTED NISSAN USA AND AFTER WAITING FOR TWO DAYS THE REGIONAL MANAGER DENIED MY CLAIM AND STATED THERE WAS NOT ANYTHING NISSAN WOULD DO TO HELP . THOUGH MY XTERRA IS A 2006 IT ONLY HAS 68207 MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE.
MY XTERRA IS SUBJECT TO DIE AT ANY TIME AS IF THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF. OCCURS WHETHER DRIVING OR PARKED. VERY DANGEROUS IF OCCURS WHEN DRIVING. MY MECHANIC STATES THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSORS CAUSE THIS. I HAVE REPLACED THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS TWICE IN THE ONE YEAR THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE.
I AM THE VERY UNFORTUNATE OWNER OF A 2006 XTERRA, THAT IS EXPERIENCING THE INFAMOUS RADIATOR LEAKING COOLANT FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AUTOMATIC 4WD; PURCHASED IN 2009 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED W/ 46K MILES ON IT. NOW IT HAS 137K ON IT AND I UNFORTUNATELY EXPERIENCED THE INFAMOUS "STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE OF DEATH" WHERE DUE TO A RADIATOR DEFAULT IT LEAKS COOLANT FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE 2 DAYS AGO ON MAY 6TH 2017. RIGHT NOW THE RADIATOR IS DEAD AS WELL AS THE THERMOSTAT; A MECHANIC SHOP INSPECTED THE VEHICULE AS I PULLED OVER TO THEIR PLACE WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE AND STOPPED DRIVING IMMEDIATELY. I REACHED OUT TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR AND; TO JUST BE ABLE TO GO FORWARD I MUST HAVE THE CAR TOW TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP AS IT IS THE PROCEDURE AND THEY CAN'T DETERMINATE ANYTHING BEFORE CAR GOT INSPECTED BY OFFICIAL NISSAN SERVICE DPT. CHANGING THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE PAY OUT OF MY POCKET UNFORTUNATELY AT THIS STAGE. I AM OUT THE MILEAGE SETTLED AFTER THE CLASS ACTION SUIT NISSAN GOT HIT FOR THIS WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE. I AM JUST ANOTHER VICTIM OF WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A NATIONAL RECALL FROM NISSAN.
RADIATOR FAILED INTERNALLY AND ALLOWED TRANSMISSION FLUID TO TO MIX WITH COOLANT AND CIRCULATE THROUGH THE TRANSMISSION, DESTROYING BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY ON A A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY AND CAUSED THE TOTAL LOSS OF PROPULSION. THIS ENDANGERED ME DUE TO THE FAST MOVING VEHICLES AROUND THAT DIDN'T KNOW WHY I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP IN TRAFFIC AND I WAS VERY LUCKY TO NOT BE RUN OVER. COST OF REPAIR IS AT LEAST $6,000, DEALER PRICE IS MORE LIKE $7,000 THIS HAPPENED WHEN MY XTERRA ONLY HAD 110,970 MILES AND WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. THIS IS TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE SINCE IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO REPAIR AT THIS PRICE A VEHICLE WITH LESS RESALE VALUE THAN THE COST OF THE REPAIR. WHILE MY WIFE AND GRANDDAUGHTER WERE DRIVING OUR 2006 NISSAN XTERRA ON A HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP, NOT ALLOWING THE ABILITY TO MAINTAIN THE PROPER SAFE POSTED DRIVING SPEED. MY WIFE HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC, EXPOSING BOTH HER, AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER TO A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED, WHILE THEY WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, GETTING PICKED UP BY A FAMILY MEMBER. SUBSEQUENTLY I LEARNED OF A KNOWN DEFECT IN NISSAN RADIATORS THAT FAIL, AND LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION, CAUSING IT TO FAIL. REPORTEDLY, IT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED THE FAILURES COMMONLY OCCUR AROUND 90,000 MILES, OR A LITTLE OVER 2000 MORE MILES THAN WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS POTENTIAL DEFECT, WHICH SHOULD HAVE INVOLVED A RECALL/WARRANTY REPAIR, RATHER THAN SUBJECTING ME, AND MY FAMILY, TO THIS SAFETY RISK. THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELLS CAN DEFORM, CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.
