I WAS FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH GAS. NEXT THING I KNOW THE VEHICLE HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. CALL NISSAN AND THE STATED IS A COMMON PROBLEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN OUT OF GAS TWICE ON THE STREETS DUE TO A UNKNOWING MY GAS LEVEL. AT NISSAN THEY STATED THAT IS NOT A HAZARD WHICH I BELIEVE IT S WHEN IT HAPPEN IN BUSY ROADS OR AT NIGHT. *TR
STARTED OVER A YEAR AGO THAT WHILE DRIVING THE MOTOR WOULD JUST STOP RUNNING, WOULD HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE IF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT THE PROBLEM. NOW THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SHAKE AND MAKE NOISE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR IS MAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT MAKES THE MOTOR QUIT AND LOSS OF POWER. I AM INFORMED THAT I NEED A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. LOOKING ONLINE I SEE THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SANE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT'S SAFETY ALONE! I ALMOST HIT A CAR AND A PEDESTRIAN WHILE TRYING TO STEER OFF THE ROAD AND STOP. PLEASE HELP WITH A RECALL!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD FAIL TO SHIFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT READING PROPERLY AND WAS PROVIDING AN INCORRECT WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF FUEL WITH NO WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V517000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION, DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
ANYTIME I PUT GAS IN MY CAR , THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. I CAN DRIVE WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND THE INDICATOR SAYS IT ON EMPTY. AND THEN IT WILL GRADUALLY START GOING UP, BUT IT TAKES DAYS FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY. ALSO, IF IT WORKING PROPERLY, I CAN STOP A RED LIGHT, AND IF THE CAR STAYS STANDING IN ONE PLACE NOT MOVING THE INDICATOR ALSO DROPS TO E.
THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ENGINE COOLANT ARE MIXING CAUSING MY TRANSMISSION TO LOCK IN 1ST GEAR. *TR
I TOOK MY XTERRA IN FOR A FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IT WAS COMPUTER CODE PO463 WHICH IS A FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST AROUND 600.00 THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! I HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERNET WHERE NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM.PLEASE FORCE NISSAN TO MAKE THIS A FACTORY RECALL. 600.00 IS THE COST OF A MORTGAGE PAYMENT AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT THIS FIX!!!! *TR
ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT HARD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY RADIATOR ASSEMBLY HAS LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT WONT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I GOT A LETTER FROM NISSAN SAYING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY AND SHOW THE DEALER IT AS WELL AND THEY STILL WON'T COVER IT FOR BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. SO I ASKED THEM HOW MUCH IT WOULD BE TO FIX IT AND IT WOULD BE $8000.00 TO REPAIR. THE DEALER SUGGESTED I CALL NISSAN. SO I CALL AND TELL THEM MY PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATOR AND TELL SAID THEY WONT COVER IT OF BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. I ASKED NISSAN WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO DO AND THEY SAID THAT I'M OUT OF LUCK. SO I'M WONDERING WHY THEY DIDN'T HAVE A RECALL ON A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
RADIATOR CRACKED AND LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. BOTH RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION DAMAGED. *TR
LIKE HUNDREDS OF OTHER XTERRA OWNERS, OUR RADIATOR LINE LEAKED COOLANT INTO OUR TRANSMISSION AND IT TOTALLY DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION, AS WELL AS THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. ALL TOLD, $4,000 TO REPAIR (AND THAT WAS WITH A HEFTY DISCOUNT FROM AAMCO). IT HAPPENED ON AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO END UP IN A WRECK. IN THE TWO DAYS IT TOOK AAMCO TO FIX OUR CAR, WE SPOKE WITH TWO OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEIR XTERRA'S. I AM AMAZED THAT THIS IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM AND HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN A MORE SATISFACTORY MANNER BY NISSAN. I HOPE THIS INVESTIGATION HELPS DRIVE NISSAN TO DO A RECALL ON THESE PARTS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
ONE DAY AFTER FILLING MY TANK WITH GAS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER HAVING THE OBD2 SCANNED I HAD AN P0463 TROUBLE CODE FOR THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING AFTER THAT AND STILL DOES NOT GIVE A CORRECT READING. I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK! *JS
ON FEB. 8TH MY WIFE AND I WERE MOVING INTO A NEW PLACE JUST MILES AWAY FROM OUR OLD HOME. WHEN CRUISING IN BETWEEN 40-50 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING EXTREME VIBRATION IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS THEN THAT I ASSUMED IT MIGHT BE A UNIVERSAL JOINT AND/OR THE DRIVE SHAFT. SO WHEN I HAD THE MONEY I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AAMCO TRANSMISSIONS TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. I HAD TO DROP IT OFF BUT LATER THAT AFTERNOON THE MECHANIC CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT AND THE FRONTAL U-JOINT. HE REPLACED THE U-JOINT AND RE-BALANCED THE DRIVE SHAFT. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BUT JUST A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD I REALIZED IT HADN'T. SO I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY TOOK A SECOND LOOK AND TOLD ME IT MAY BE TWO THINGS. EITHER THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS BAD OR THE COOLANT HOSE BUSTED AND THE ANTIFREEZE WAS DRAINING INTO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO BLOW OUT. THEY THEN TOLD ME TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION WOULD COST ME AROUND $6,000 WHICH TO ME IS WORTH MORE THAN THE ACTUAL VEHICLE. WHEN I GOT HOME I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT SURE ENOUGH THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE ANTIFREEZE LOOKS LIKE A GREEN APPLE MILKSHAKE IF YOU CAN IMAGINE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE NOR WARRANTY COVERAGE. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. I'M AT A LOSS, AND NOW THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I CAN DO WITH MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION. *TR
TRIED TO OPEN REAR DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER DOOR, AND WILL NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE OF VEHICLE. CHECKED LOCKS, OPENED WITH THE KEY FOB AND INTERNAL UNLOCK BUTTON AND YOU CAN HEAR IT DISENGAGE, YET DOOR WILL NOT RELEASE. THIS IS A THE SECOND TIME WE'VE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH A NISSAN XTERRA; ONCE BEFORE ON ANOTHER XTERRA, MODEL YEAR 2006 AS WELL, AND NOW THIS 2006 THAT WE PURCHASED USED 4 YEARS AGO. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AND NOT KNOW IT; AND HAD TO VACATE THE VEHICLE IN A HURRY; WOULD PRESENT A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT MOST TIMES OUR CHILDREN ARE IN THIS REAR SEAT. THAT IT HAS HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE VEHICLES WE'VE OWNED, THE PRIOR ONE IT HAPPENED WITHIN THE FACTORY WARRANTY TIME, AND NOW THIS ONE, AND UPON READING ABOUT IT ONLINE, IT IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS WITH THIS MODEL YEAR. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE ACTUATOR ON THE OTHER ONE, BUT SEEMS TO BE A PART THAT IS AN ISSUE, AND NOT NECESSARILY BASED ON THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER PLASTIC PART FAILED; ONLY INDICATION IS A WHINE SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. NISSAN ISSUED A TSB TO THEIR DEALERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT NOTHING TO THE CONSUMER. IF THE TIMING CHAIN FAILS IT WILL CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE AND A POSSIBLE CRASH. AN UNKNOWING CONSUMER HAS NO IDEA ABOUT WHAT THIS SOUND MEANS (JUST SOUNDS LIKE A NOISY ENGINE) AND MIGHT HAVE LITTLE WARNING PRIOR TO A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE TYPE OF ENGINE IN THE XTERRA, IT AFFECTS OTHER MODEL ALSO, AND AT A VERY LOW MILEAGE 50-60K MI. CONSUMERS NEED TO BE NOTIFIED OF THIS DEFECT AND TO LISTEN FOR THE NOISE. NOT EVERYONE TAKES THEIR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. MOST MECHANICS KNOW THAT TIMING CHAINS ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST WELL OVER 100,000 - 200,000 MILES AND WOULD NEVER SUSPECT THE DEFECT. A SAFETY RECALL OR AT LEAST A NOTIFICATION TO CONSUMERS WOULD BE ADVISABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK) HOWEVER, WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I WAS GOING APROX. 15 MPH ON A STRAIGHT WAY OFF OF A DIRT ROAD AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN A LITTLE WAY FROM IT , APPLIED THE BRAKE LIKE NORMAL, WHEN I HEARD MY ENGINE SOUND LIKE THE ACCELERATOR WAS BEING ROMPED ON, AND REALIZED IT WAS IN FACT SPEEDING UP RAPIDLY. I THEN STARTED THINKING FAST, PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE TOO AND PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I KNEW I COULDN'T MAKE THE TURN AT THE STOP SIGN ONTO A HWY. I WOKE UP AFTER BEING UNCONSCIOUS FOR AROUND THREE HRS. DUE TO SEVERAL INJURIES CAUSED BY THE AIRBAG THAT APPARENTLY INFLATED AT THE FIRST LARGE TREE IMPACT. PROCEEDING TO HIT SEVERAL OTHERS BEFORE IT CAME TO A STOP AND ALOT OF SHAKING AROUND AND FORTUNATELY I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON OR OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN EJECTED THRU THE WINDSHIELD ON THE LAST IMPACT FOR SURE HITTING THE LARGEST TREE OF ALL, STOPPING ME FROM ENTERING INTO A CREEK ABOUT 5 FEET AWAY, WHEN I WAS TAKEN TO THE SITE THE NEXT DAY I STILL DIDN'T REALIZE JUST WHAT HAPPENED, AND COULD ONLY REMEMBER THAT SOUND OF THE ENGINE REVVING SO LOUD WHILE I WAS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN SEEING THE STOP SIGN A WAYS UP AHEAD AND THEN REALIZING THE VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO SLOW DOWN AND WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE MORE AS I THEN WAS HOLDING BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE AND HAD PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND KNOWING I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT TURN WITHOUT ROLLING AND WAS NO WHERE TO GO BUT STRAIGHT IF I COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP, AND AT THAT TIME IT WAS GOING WAY FASTER THAN I WAS ORIGINALLY GOING QUITE A WAY BEFORE THE STOP SIGN ONLY MAYBE 15MPH WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS USUAL BUT IT FAILED LIKE OTHERS I HAVE RESEARCHED HAVE DONE. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS A LONG TIME AGO , BUT NISSAN HAS LOST THEIR HONESTY AND BLEW OFF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES OVER VERY , VERY MANY PROBABLE FAILURES THAT SHOULD HAVE MAJOR ALERTS AND RECALLS FOR THE SAFETY OF HUMAN LIVES. *TR
WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE GETS CLOSE TO 1/4 TANK IT WILL DROP DOWN TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK AFTER REFUELING THE TANK TO CAPACITY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS A QUARTER FULL AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY REFUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,556.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE JERKED AND BRIEFLY LOST PROPULSION. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. I FEARED THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT MY MECHANIC HAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED, WHICH IS RELATED TO THIS PHENOMENON. *TR
I FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AND NOTICED THAT THE GAUGE FAILED TO RISE TO REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF FUEL I ADDED. A DAY LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, REGISTERING CODE P0463. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN READING VARIOUS LEVELS OF FUEL, WITH NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF IT IS ACCURATE OR NOT. *TR
DUE TO A CRACKED RADIATOR, COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO TAKE VEHICLE OUT OF SERVICE BEFORE MORE DAMAGE COULD OCCUR, AS A RESULT THE FIRTH GEAR WAS DEEMED INOPERATIVE. THE CRACKED RADIATOR WAS REPLACED, AND A NEW TRANSMISSION WILL HAVE TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE, BUT GAS MILEAGE HAS SIGNIFICANTLY BEEN REDUCED BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF THE FIFTH GEAR. I TALKED TO NUMEROUS REPAIR AND TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. RESEARCHING ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE A ACTIVE INVESTIGATION WAS FOUND UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER # DP12004. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR LOW FUEL LIGHT WAS ON AND THE GAUGE GOT CLOSE TO EMPTY AS EXPECTED WHILE HEADING TO A GAS STATION. SHORTLY AFTER, THE GAUGE ODDLY CHANGED TO SHOW 1/4 TANK OF GAS INCORRECTLY. ADDED GAS AT THE STATION AND CONFIRMED THE INACCURATE GAUGE READING. STARTED THE CAR AND RECEIVED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH CODE P0463. FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED. I HAD THIS CONFIRMED AT MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THIS FAILURE CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH SINCE IT CAN CAUSE THE TANK TO GO EMPTY WHILE THE GAUGE SHOWS IT HAS GAS. THE ISSUE IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE NISSAN FUEL SENDING UNIT RECALL (ID # 10V075000) AND MAY INCLUDE THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART BUT ODDLY MY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED IN THE EXISTING RECALL. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS DEFECTIVE PART AND RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR MY VIN, ACKNOWLEDGING THE PART HAD A HIGH FAILURE RATE, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. UNFORTUNATELY MY ISSUE IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION AND I AM HAVING DIFFICULTIES GETTING IT ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. THE NISSAN CUSTOMER SUPPORT SPECIALIST I DEALT WITH ADMITTED THAT IN THEIR OPINION THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER A RECALL. IT SEEMS TO ME AND MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS I HAVE SPOKE WITH THAT NISSAN IS EXTENDING WARRANTIES TO REDUCE COMPLAINTS IN HOPES OF AVOIDING A MASS RECALL ON ALL GENERATION 2 XTERRA, PATHFINDERS, AND TITANS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. HAD DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND CATALYTIC CONVERTER NOT TO BE WORKING PROPERLY. REPLACED CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON 29 NOV 2012. AGAIN ON MAY 2013 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND AGAIN IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN. TOTAL COST OF BOTH REPLACEMENTS WAS IN EXCESS OF $1900.00. CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, SAID THAT WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. HAD CONVERTER REPLACED AT NISSAN DEALER THE FIRST TIME. *TR
DUE TO A CRACK IN THE INTERNAL RADIATOR, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED. I WAS ALMOST SIDE SWIPED PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT BECAUSE MY XTERRA WOULDN'T GO INTO 1ST GEAR. THE CRACK IN THE COOLANT CORD IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THIS PRODUCT DEFECT AND CORRELATING DAMAGES. *TR
TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKED INTO THE COOLING SYSTEM REQUIRING THE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH MAJOR COMPONENTS. TOTAL COST OF THE WORK WAS OVER $5000 AFTER CHECKING WITH NUMEROUS REPAIR FACILITIES. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS EVERY REPAIR SHOP I TALKED TO SAID THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT EVERY CUSTOMER HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT NISSAN'S RESPONSE. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION RADIATOR FAILED CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. I SPOKE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THE XTERRAS. NISSAN DOES HAVE A PROGRAM TO REBATE SOME OF THE REPAIR ($4,500 DOLLARS). THIS PROGRAM HAS A CUTOFF AT 100K MILES. MY VEHICLE HAS 119K MILES. NISSAN WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP WITH THE COST OF REPAIR ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IS A PROBLEM. NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING ME AS A CUSTOMER IN THE FUTURE!
DEFECTIVE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PERIOD TO HAVE SENSOR CHECKED OUT AND FIXED FOR FREE. GRACE PERIOD HAS EXPIRED AND DEALERSHIP WHICH IS LOKEY NISSAN NOW WANTS TO CHARGE US NEARLY $700 DOLLARS TO FIX. IF WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT EARLIER VIA ANY TYPE OF COMMUNICATION, WE WOULD HAVE HAD VEHICLE CHECKED OUT. SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM SAID DEALERSHIP, WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED SOME SORT OF NOTICE CONCERNING THIS FLAW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILIARY TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,600.
I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH ON A BUSY STREET WHEN MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TOWED MY CAR TO NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD MY TRANS WAS NO GOOD AND IT WOULD COST 6,000 TO 10,000 TO FIX. I CONTACTED NISSANS CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY SAID I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY WARRANTIES. NISSAN TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RADIATOR FLUID IN MY TRANSMISSION WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT. I TOWED MY CAR FOR A SECOND OPINION AND WAS TOLD MY TRANS DOES HAVE RADIATOR FLUID IN IT AND IT ALSO FLOODED MY COMPUTER IN THE TRANS. WHY DID NISSAN LIE TO ME? I FOUND THAT NISSAN DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATORS AND THAT AN E-MAIL DID GO OUT TO NISSAN OWNERS STATING THEY WOULD ALSO COVER THE TRANS IF CAUSED BY RADIATOR LEAKAGE TO 80,000 MILES BUT NISSAN TOLD ME I DON'T QUALIFY BECAUSE I AM A SECOND OWNER? I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 XTERRA ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THERE WAS A CLUNK AND IT STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. DROVE CAR TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM - THE RADIATOR FAILED, LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. BOTH RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WERE DESTROYED. NISSAN DECIDED TO NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. UNABLE TO AFFORD REPAIR, SO HAD TO SELL THE VEHICLE AS JUNK AT A LOSS. *TR
RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION. THIS CAUSED AN ENTIRE SHUTDOWN OF MY TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN THAT IT WOULD TAKE UP TO $5,000 TO REPAIR. THE RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED DUE TO A DEFECT THAT NISSAN COULD HAVE EASILY RECALLED AND AVOIDED. I HAVE CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER NISSAN OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST EVEN THOUGH THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY AVOIDED BY NISSAN MANUFACTURERS. *TR
MY CAR ACTUALLY IS 8 YEARS OLD AND HAS APPROX. 105,000 MILES, HENCE, DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE SETTLEMENT OF CLASS ACTION SUIT ORDERING NISSAN TO REIMBURSE REPAIRS. IF I WAS UNDER 100,000 MI, I WOULD ONLY HAVE TO PAY A $3,000 DEDUCTIBLE. BECAUSE I HAD PASSED THE 100,000 MILE BEFORE THE FAILURE HAPPENED, I'M NO LONGER ELIGIBLE FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE HALF TANK STICKMARK, IT WILL FREEZE THERE FOR SEVERAL MILES, THEN DROP TO E AND THE EMPTY WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, THOUGH I WOULD ESTIMATE THE TANK TO BE ABOUT HALF FULL. I STOP TO FILL UP AGAIN BUT CAN ONLY GET 7 OR SO GALLONS IN. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS A WHINING NOISE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A WORN DOWN TENSIONER FOR THE TIMING CHAIN. IF NEGLECTED IT COULD CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AND MALFUNCTION. THE DEALER CLAIMS THE REPAIR INCLUDES REMOVING THE TENSIONER AND REPLACING WITH AN UPGRADED PART AS THEY KNOW THE ORIGINAL PART IS FAULTY. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2009 NTB07-042A, BUT REFUSES TO FIX THIS PART IN THEIR VEHICLES. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED! *TR

THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR SITUATION WAS AN ISSUE THAT HE HAD SEEN BEFORE. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT IT WILL COST ME $4000 FOR MY CAR TO BE REPAIRED DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECTIVE RADIATOR THAT WOULD HAVE COST A FRACTION OF THAT TO REPLACE.
