DRIVING APPROX. 30 MPH WHEN THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING. I GOT IT LOOKED AT, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO A FAILED TRANSMISSION COOLER WHICH CAUSED WATER FROM THE RADIATOR TO BACK UP INTO THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR XTERRA IN ELLENSBURG, WASHINGTON 260 MILES IN THE DESERT WHEN THE CAR TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING! BROUGHT IT FOR TWO RELIABLE ESTIMATES AND LIKE ALL THE OTHERS THIS IS A CAUSE FROM A DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR THAT OBVIOUSLY NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR QUITE A LONG TIME. DO THEY NEED MORE BAD PRESS? I WILL BE PUTTING IT ON CRAIGSLIST AND ANY PLACE ELSE I CAN TO INCLUDE THE BACK WINDOW OF THE TRUCK. MY DAUGHTER WAS STRANDED!!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF A DESERT WITH NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION. DOES NISSAN WANT THE LIABILITY OF THIS? IT'S THERES BECAUSE THEY KNEW ABOUT THE FAULTY POWER TRAIN AND DID NOTHING. I HAVE ADDED MY NAME AND FILED A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY FAIL TO RECOGNIZE. I DON'T GET IT AT ALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V517000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). TWO DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE STALED WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 45 MPH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON ANOTHER OCCASION, BOTH HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ECM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,302 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,350.
MY FUEL SENDER FLOAT DOES NOT WORK. I HAVE TO KEEP TRACK OF THE MILES JUST TO BE SURE I DON'T RUN OUT OF GAS ON A TRAIN TRACK OR IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. THERE WAS A RECALL DONE FOR THIS PART FOR 2001-2008 NISSAN XTERRAS. MINE IN AN '06, BUT WHEN I TRY TO GET IT FIXED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER TELL ME THAT THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VIN. ITS NOT FAIR THAT SOME VEHICLES WITH THE PROPER VIN THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM ARE ALLOWED TO GET FIXED BUT NOT MINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE GAS GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. FAULTY FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT. RAN OUT OF GAS IN TRAFFIC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN WOBBLING APPROXIMATELY ONE INCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A DEFECTIVE BEARING IN THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THEY COULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO ISSUE WITH RADIATOR DEFECT. RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION EVENTUALLY CAUSED CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION PARTS. POWER TRAIN FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY ALMOST 30 MILES FROM HOME. MY PERSONAL SAFETY WAS DEFINITELY IN PERIL AND ONLY DUE TO SKILL AND LUCK WAS AN ACCIDENT AVERTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING AN OIL CHANGE PERFORMED, SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE WAS DEFECTIVE DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON DURING NORMAL DRIVING. RAN THE CODE THROUGH A SCANGAUGE COMPUTER AND RETURNED P0436 WHICH IS A FUEL LEVEL CIRCUIT HIGH IMPUT. IT IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE THAT MAKE THE FUEL GAUGE READ INCORRECTLY AND COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC WHICH MAKE FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK THAT MORNING. I LIVE ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN SO I WAS GOING DOWN A MOUNTAIN. I STARTED TO HEAR A GRINDING SOUND BETWEEN 40-60 MPH. THEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. WHEN I WOULD SLOW DOWN IT BEGAN TO STOP. I GOT TO WORK AND WHEN THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT VEHICLE HE STATED THE COOLANT HAD MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. I AM IN THE CAR BUSINESS SO I KNEW THAT THIS WAS MAJOR DAMAGE. I CALLED A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER AND TO MY SURPRISE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOW ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. I AM VERY UPSET AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT BEING ON A MOUNTAIN AND HAVING THE TRANSMISSION GO OUT. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE AND AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE SERVICE. I WROTE A COMPLAINT TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND THE ONLY REPLY I RECEIVED WA TO TELL ME ABOUT AN OPEN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. WELL SINCE THE VEHICLE CAN'T BE DRIVEN I GUESS THAT RECALL WILL HAVE TO WAIT. I DID REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES IN HOPES THAT IT WOULD SAVE THE TRANSMISSION BUT SO SORRY TO SAY I STILL HAVE THE SHUTTER AND VIBRATION AT 40 -60 MPH. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT NISSAN HAS COME UP WITH IS A LAUGH! MOST COMPLAINT I HAVE SEEN THE CONSUMER HAS PROBLEMS WELL AFTER 100000 MILES AND WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER PAY ANYTHING ON A DEFECTED PART THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE. SHAME ON NISSAN! *TR
OUR XTERRA HAS THE SAME DEFECT THAT MANY OTHER XTERRA OWNERS HAVE REPORTED: THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE "STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE OF DEATH" THAT DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND FUEL GAUGE WAS ERRONEOUSLY PROVIDING A READING OF HALF FULL THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
RECALL FOR 2006 XTERRA WITH MANUFACTURER DATE OF JAN-MARCH. MY MANUFACTURER DATE OF MY VEHICLE IS AUGUST BUT HAS THE SAME FUEL LEVEL SENSOR ISSUE LISTED ON THE RECALL. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO DANGEROUSLY RUN OUT OF GAS ON AN INTERSTATE CAUSING HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS. PROBLEM: FUEL SENSOR INDICATES THERE IS FUEL IN THE TANK WHEN IN FACT IT IS EMPTY. IT EITHER STAYS FULL OR STAYS AT HALF A TANK. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V517000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL AND A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CAUSE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE ECM RELAY FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY A PERCENTAGE OF THE COSTS FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
WE BROUGHT OUR NISSAN 2006 XTERRA IN TO THE BOARDWALK AUTO CENTER. REDWOOD CITY, CA - NISSAN TO HAVE THEM CHECK ON WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUE (NISSAN REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, AT THEIR EXPENSE OVER $8000, ONCE AND THE FUEL GAUGE TWICE PLUS A COUPLE OF OTHER RECALL ITEMS). WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR THEY TOLD US WE NEEDED A NEW TIMING CHAIN FOR ABOUT $2000 (WE HAVE HEARD THESE ARE NOT NORMAL ITEMS TO BE REPLACED AND SHOULD LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR). WE CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS YET ANOTHER MAJOR EXPENSIVE PROBLEM PART WITH THIS CAR! WHEN DOES THIS CAR BECOME A LEMON AND HOW MANY MAJOR ITEMS ARE GOING TO NEED TO BE REPLACED? WHAT IS HAPPENING TO NISSAN? HAS THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE BEEN INVESTIGATED AND HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? *KB
AND NOISE WAS HEARD LIKE TWO METAL PIECE HITTING AGAINST EACH OTHER THE DRIVER STOPPED DID AN INSPECTION DIDN'T SEE ANY VISUAL SIGNS GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE, TRAVELED ABOUT 8 TO 10 MILES. THEN WHILE GOING OVER A HILL THE BRAKES PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR, UNABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK IT PICKED UP SPEED SLAMMING IT TO THE BACK OF A VAN CAUSING THE TRUCK TO ROLLOVER. I DRIVER SUSTAINED AND SHATTER KNEEL CAP AND BROKEN RIBS. *TR
DUE TO THE REPORTED DEFECTS IN THESE VEHICLES? RADIATORS, THE INTERIOR COMPONENTS OF THE RADIATORS (INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLERS) BREAK DOWN ALLOWING COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. AS A RESULT OF THE CONTAMINATION, THE TRANSMISSION AND OTHER DRIVE TRAIN COMPONENTS ARE DAMAGED AND MAY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. OUR INVESTIGATION REVEALS THAT NISSAN TYPICALLY DENIES WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR REPAIRS CAUSED BY THESE DEFECTS EVEN IF THE VEHICLE?S POWERTRAIN IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *JS
SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN SHOE FAILURE. KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MULTIPLE NISSAN VEHICLES DUE TO INFERIOR QUALITY PRODUCT, AS EXPLAINED BY SERVICE TECHNICIAN. TECHNICIAN STATED THAT MULTIPLE NISSAN VEHICLES COME IN TO THE SHOP WEEKLY WITH THIS ISSUE. IT OCCURS SO OFTEN, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAD EXAMPLES OF THE INFERIOR AND WORN PARTS IN THE CABINET TO SHOW CUSTOMERS. EXPENSIVE AND TIMELY ISSUE TO FIX. IF LEFT UNFIXED, WILL CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO ENGINE. *TR
ABOUT 61K MILES THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS DRAGGING WHILE I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WHEN I GOT HOME I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP. THE LOCAL SHOP DROPPED THE PAN AND SAID THE FLUID WAS OK. THE DRAGGING DIDN'T COME BACK AFTER A FLUID CHANGE. HOWEVER, LATER ON, AT HIGHWAY I OCCASIONALLY FELT A VIBRATION THAT STOPPED WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. I LATER GOT NOTICE OF AN EXTENDED RADIATOR WARRANTY TO 80K MILES, BUT IT DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE ANTIFREEZE NEVER LOOKED LOW WHEN I CHECKED THE RADIATOR, THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE DRIVEWAY, SO I PUT THE STICKER FROM THE MAIL FROM NISSAN ON THE MANUAL AND PUT IT BACK IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. ON SATURDAY 6/8/2013 SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THAT TIME THE CAR SEEMED TO ?DRAG?. IT SEEMED TO NEED TO REV AT HIGHER RPM THAN USUAL TO GET GOING. AT ONE POINT IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IT WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD FOR A MINUTE, AND I HIT ALMOST 4000 RPM BEFORE IT MOVED FORWARD, VERY SLUGGISHLY. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY, THEY TOLD ME TO SEE A TRANSMISSION SHOP, SINCE A CODE "1754" CAME UP, INDICATING A DEFECTIVE CONTROL UNIT WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP TOLD ME I NEEDED A RADIATOR, CONTROL UNIT, SINCE THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR HAD CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION WITH ANTIFREEZE. *TR

COOLANT LEAKED FROM THE RADIATOR INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY NISSAN XTERRA FELL ON IT'S FACE, SO TO SPEAK. IT WAS LIKE I HIT THE BRAKES AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. A FEW SHORT MOMENTS LATER IT REGAINED POWER AND SOUNDED LIKE I WAS RUNNING ON THE RUMBLE STRIPS. IT SEEMED FINE FOR AWHILE BUT WENT TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND IT JUST ALL BUT CAME TO A STOP AND JUMPED FORWARD SUDDENLY. I ALL BUT MADE IT HOME AND PULLED INTO MY GARAGE AND WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IT JUMPED FORWARD ALMOST TAKING OUT MY WALL. AFTER TALKING TO A FEW FRIENDS I KNEW THE PROBLEM WAS FROM THE TRANSMISSION COOLER GOING BAD AND MIXING ANTI-FREEZE WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND I WASN'T ALONE, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE POSTED THE SAME PROBLEMS. AFTER TALKING TO MY WIFE'S COUSIN SHE HAD A NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH SAME TRANNY AND WHEN HERS WENT OUT SHE LOST CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE AND WENT INTO THE INTERSTATE MEDIAN STRIP. I DROPPED IT OFF AND HAMILTON NISSAN TODAY AND NOTHING IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE COVERED. I AM UPSET BECAUSE I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE BUT HAS DONE NOTHING. IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU JUST FEEL LIKE YOU STOMPED ON YOUR BRAKES ON THE INTERSTATE, AND PRAY SOMEONE DOESN'T HIT YOU IN THE REAR END. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD SON AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE HAVING HIM IN THAT TRAP. *TR
I RECENTLY HAD MY RECALLED ECM RELAY REPLACED AFTER IT FAILED, THE VERY NEXT DAY MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND A P0430 CODE SAYING THAT THE CATALYST EFFICIENCY WAS BELOW THRESHOLD ON BANK 2 (FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER). I CALLED THE DEALER TO TELL THEM WHAT TROUBLE CODE I HAD FOUND AND TO SEE IF THE ECM FAILURE WAS RELATED. HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND CALL ME BACK. DURING THAT TIME, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SITES WHERE PEOPLE HAD DISCUSSED HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN THE DEALER CALLED ME BACK I TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD FOUND, IT WAS AT THIS TIME, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE & THAT HE WOULD LOOK INTO TRYING TO GET IT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MY MILEAGE WAS JUST OVER THE 80,000 MILE LIMIT. WHEN HE CALLED ME BACK, HE SAID THAT HE WAS GETTING RESISTANCE FROM HIS END AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN DIRECTLY. I CALLED NISSAN, EXPLAINED MY ISSUE, AND THEN WAITED FOR THEM TO GET BACK TO ME WITH THEIR DECISION. WHEN THEY CALLED THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD COVER $300 OF THE $1300 COST TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I SAID, ONLY $300?? I FEEL THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE COVERING 100% BECAUSE IT WAS THE FAILURE OF THE ECM THAT CAUSED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL. NISSAN SAID, OUR ENGINEERS HAVE NOT DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE OF THE ECM CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, BUT IF AT SOME POINT THEY DO DETERMINE THAT, WE WILL REFUND ALL OF YOUR REPAIR COSTS. I KNOW THE CAT FAILURE WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ECM FAILURE AND FEEL NISSAN SHOULD COVER THE ENTIRE COST OF REPLACEMENT. I CALLED NISSAN BACK TODAY (12/22/11) TO SEE IF I COULD GET THEM TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE FURTHER & WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I DID NOT ACCEPT THEIR OFFER OF $300 THAT THE ISSUE HAD BEEN CLOSED AND THAT I COULD DO NOTHING MORE. NISSAN WILL NOW COVER NONE OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE CAT BECAUSE I DID NOT ACCEPT THEIR $300 OFFER. THIS IS WRONG!!! *TR
THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING, IT SUDDENLY GOES TO EMPTY AT NO PARTICULAR LEVEL THE FUEL TANK IS ACTUALLY AT. MY RISK IS TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. MY COWORKER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS XTERRA AS WELL, IT SEEMS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT FOR THESE CARS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO CHECK THIS OUT AS THERE MIGHT BE MANY CONSUMERS AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. *TR
I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN MID 2009. GAS GAUGE FAILURE CAUSES ABRUPT STOPS WITHOUT NOTICE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AREAS CAUSING HAZARDOUS SITUATION AND POTENTIAL DIRECT HARM TO DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE OF FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT PRIOR TO PURCHASE OF VEHICLE. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR AS PER THE MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER IS ROUGHLY $1000.00. I DON'T SEE HOW THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR IN TEAR IN A VEHICLES LIFE SPAN. I FIND THIS TO BE A SERIOUS AND VERY DANGEROUS FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF YOUR VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE RECTIFIED BY SOME SORT OF RECALL. MY 2006 XTERRA HAD THE P0463 CODE COME UP, WITH THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT, AND MY FUEL GAUGE NOT PROPERLY DISPLAYING WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL GAUGE WILL DROP TO SHOW EMPTY WHEN I FILL THE TANK, OTHER TIMES IT WILL SLOWLY RAISE UP TO SHOW FULL, BUT IT CAN BE ALL OVER THE PLACE. I USE MY TRIP ODOMETER TO KNOW WHERE I'M ACTUALLY AT FOR FUEL. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ON GOING ISSUE WITH XTERRA'S, THEN THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL. MY ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL SHIFTS VERTICALLY AND LATERALLY. I AM LOSING CONTROL OF MY STEERING AND EXPERIENCING FREQUENT LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO MY NEGLIGENCE BUT THIS IS CLEARLY A MATTER THAT IS DUE TO MANUFACTURE DEFECT. IN FACT THEY ASKED ME TO GET AN ESTIMATE FROM MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHICH I DID BUT BECAUSE THEY HAD TO OPEN UP THE STEERING COLUMN, THEY HAVE SINCE EXACERBATED THE PROBLEM. *TR

THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK WHICH I THINK IS A SAFETY CONCERN. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE XTERRA FUEL SENSOR BUT WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL OR FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT VIN ACCORDING TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE. ENGINE BEGAN TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE. WAS NOT NOTICED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, IT WAS NOTICED AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP. WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE NOISE IS DUE TO THE PLASTIC TIMING CHAIN GUIDES THAT WEAR DOWN AND THEN THE TIMING CHAIN BEGINS TO RUB ON METAL. FAILURE TO CHANGE OUT THE ENTIRE TIMING CHAIN KIT MAY RESULT IN THE TIMING CHAIN BREAKING AND RUPTURING THE OIL PAN. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT THE PLASTIC GUIDES WERE A FAULTY PART BUT IT WAS NOT A RECALL, IF THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK ANY CAR WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES SHOULD NEED SUCH A PRICEY "WEAR AND TEAR" FIX AND I BELIEVE THIS PART IS FAULTY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. IN ADDITION, SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2010 I HAVE HAD A DIFFERENTIAL SEAL LEAK AND A REAR AXLE SEAL LEAK. FAILURE TO THE TIMING CHAIN WILL RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE ACCIDENT IF OPERATED ON ROADWAY. NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM AND OR RECALL. MY 2006 NISSAN XTERRA (PURCHASED NEW IN FEB 2007) BEGAN OCCASIONAL SHUDDERING, AS IF DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS, WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 131,000 MILES. IF I LET OFF THE GAS OR ACCELERATED, IT WOULD STOP, BUT NO CONSTANT TRIGGER. THIS INCREASED OVER A COUPLE WEEKS SO I DECIDED TO RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND MANY USERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO REPLICATE. I LEFT THERE AND DROVE TO TROPHY NISSAN IN MESQUITE AND THEY WOULDN'T LOOK AT IT FOR ANOTHER 1.5 DAYS AND ONLY AFTER I PAID THEM AN $85 DIAGNOSTIC FEE (TO LOOK AT SOMETHING THAT IS THERE FAULT!) I DECIDED TO BE PROACTIVE AND REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND HOSES, HOPING TO CATCH IT EARLY ENOUGH. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC 2 DAYS LATER. THEY SAID THE RUMBLING WAS FROM A TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK-UP AND WE COULD DO A FLUSH BUT THAT MAY NOT FIX IT. SO, WE FLUSHED IT WITH 12 QTS NEW NISSAN TRANSMISSION OIL. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO STAY THE SAME OVER THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS AND THEN THE TRANSMISSIONS WENT OUT ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. SO, NOW WE GET TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED A TRANSMISSION SHOP, (AT THIS POINT I DON'T TRUST NISSAN OR ANYTHING THEY SAY - SINCE THEY CAN'T EVEN ADMIT FAULT ON THIS!) AND THEY SAID THIS TRANSMISSION IS AN EXPENSIVE TRANSMISSION (WITH IT'S COMPUTER ETC.) SO JUST TO REBUILD IT IS GOING TO RUN $2500. NISSAN WANTS $4400+ JUST FOR A NEW PART. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS MINE COMPLETELY WENT OUT WHEN I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I AM SO DISGUSTED AT NISSAN AND THEIR LACK OF MORALS / VALUES. I AM THE OWNER OF A NISSAN XTERRA I PURCHASED BACK IN FEB 2006. I WAS HAPPY TO MAKE MY LAST FINANCE PAYMENT IN FEBRUARY. LAST WEEK WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON THEN STARTED TO OVERHEAT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO NISSAN IN TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR HAD A LEAK AND THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID BEGAN TO MIX TO CREATE THE WHITE SUBSTANCE WHICH RUINED MY TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO FIND OUT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE XTERRAS AND THAT NISSAN MADE A DESIGN CHANGE TO FIX IT IN LATER XTERRA MODELS. TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, UPPER/LOWER RADIATOR HOSE. THEIR INITIAL ESTIMATE TO FIX MY CAR WAS $8500. AFTER I HEARD THE NUMBER, I PRICED EACH OF THE PARTS OUT ONLINE FOR APPROX $1500. PROVIDED A NEW ESTIMATE FOR $5,500. BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT NISSAN WOULD HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING TO FIX IT AS PART OF A RECALL. WHEN A PERSON BUYS A CAR THERE IS AN EXPECTATION THE CAR WILL LAST MORE THAN 5 YEARS. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ONCE YOU EXCEED 85,000 MILES IS NO LONGER VALID. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2005 AND 2006 XTERRA PATHFINDERS ETC. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN RECALL ON THIS ID # 10V075000. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS UP AND FOUND THAT THIS ONLY COVERED XTERRAS WITH CERTAIN VINS AND I'M NOT SURE IF MY XTERRA IS ONE OF THESE VINS. RADIATOR IS SEPARATED AT TOP OF RADIATOR. RADIATOR CAN'T SUPPORT PRESSURE WHEN RUNNING AT TOP TEMPERATURES. *TR
WE HAVE AN 2006 NISSAN XTERRA AND THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED A CROSS CONTAMINATION. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. WE PARTICIPATED IN THE NISSAN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY WE RECEIVED A DENIAL LETTER IN THE MAIL EARLIER THIS WEEK BECAUSE WE WERE OVER 100,000 MILES. I AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN FOR BEING SO GREEDY AND NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY OVER THIS ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED TO OCCUR THE WINTER OF 2011 WHEN I WOULD GO OUT TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD BLOW COLD AIR AND NEVER HEAT UP UNLESS THE CAR WAS RUNNING. IF I WAS TO SIT AT RED LIGHTS THE CAR WOULD BLOW COLD AIR AGAIN. THAT SPRING I NOTICED THE CAR JERKING AND DRIVING A LITTLE ROUGH BUT DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE HAD JUST REPLACED THE UNIVERSAL C JOINT BACK THAT PRIOR FALL. THE SUMMER OF 2011 AND AT FIRST I NOTICED THE RPM'S REVVING UP BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE. THEN THE AIR WENT OUT AND WOULD COOL DOWN THE CAR. MEANWHILE I AM DRIVING MY KIDS AROUND IN A CAR WITH NO AC IN 100 SUMMER HEAT AND HUMIDITY. EVENTUALLY THE CAR GOT SO BAD IT WOULDN'T RUN. IT WOULD REV UP BUT GO NO WHERE. I FINALLY TOOK IT INTO A SHOP WHEN I NOTICED IT LEAKING A REDDISH, BROWN/GREEN FLUID. COME TO FIND OUT THERE WAS CROSS CONTAMINATION BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD BEEN DRIVING MONTHS WITH THIS CAR LIKE THIS IT REALLY MESSED UP MY XTERRA. IT COST ME $4500 TO FIX THIS ISSUE ON TOP OF MANY INCONVENIENCES. I'T SUPER DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN FOR NOT RECALLING THIS FAULTY PART THEY KNEW ABOUT. APPARENTLY A LETTER WAS SENT OUT ASKING CUSTOMERS TO BRING THE CARS IN TO BE CHECKED. WE NEVER RECEIVED THIS LETTER. ALL I WANT IS NISSAN TO FESS UP AND PAY HARD WORKING PEOPLE BACK THE MONEY THEY OWE THEM. MY XTERRA WAS PAID OFF AND I HAD TO SINK $4500 INTO A 6 YEAR OLD CAR. NISSAN HAS LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. ILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER. *TR
FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR FAILURE, RAN OUT OF GAS IN THE ROADWAY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. *TT
