I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60MPH WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SPEED UP AND SWITCH LANES THE TRUCK SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED THREE TIMES LUCKY THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE OTHER LANE SO THEY WENT AROUND I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES WHILE TRYING TO PAY ATTENTION AND NOT GET HIT I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND TRY TO START IT BACK UP THE TRUCK STARTED AND SEEMED TO IDLE FINE I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND LIMPED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE WHITEOUT GETTING HIT LUCKILY AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP I HAD MY WIFE AND TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK THANK GOD NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SHOP TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADAITOR FLUID MIXED CAUSING MY TRANSMISSION TO FAIL THEY TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR IS CRACK AND COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID I DIDN'T FIX IT YET I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY I JUST PAID IT OFF AND I'M TRYING TO BUY A HOUSE AND NOW LOOKING ON LINE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASES OF THIS AND A LAWSUIT THAT WAS ONE BUT MY TRUCK HAS 150,000 MILES ON IT ALL INTERSTATE MAINLY BUT I'M WAY OUT OF THE MILES FOR WARRANTY, SO WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL ? IF THIS HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE I WAS WAS ALMOST HIT THREE TIMES AND I HAD TO LIMP MY TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE WERE I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT SITTING STILL . I'M VERY UPSET OVER THIS NISSAN WANTS 5K TO FIX IT SO I GUESS I WILL START SAVING MY MONEY HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE A RECALL SOON.
5 MONTHS AGO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKED INTO THE RADIATOR CAUSING ANTIFREEZE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MIX NOW THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT BECAUSE OF THIS CAUSED BE TO BE STUCK ON THE ROAD I NOW NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AT STATEN ISLAND NISSAN EXACTLY TWO YEARS AGO. SINCE THEN, I'VE ONLY PUT 4,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE ALWAYS SMELLED SOMETHING A BIT AWFUL WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE. DURING IT'S LAST INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT NEEDED NEW ROTORS. WHILE GETTING THE ROTORS REPLACED, A MECHANIC WHO'D FORMERLY WORKED AT NISSAN HAD DETERMINED NOTICED THAT THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN AND GASKET WERE BAD, CAUSING AN INTERNAL LEAK. AFTER BRIEF RESEARCH, I'VE DISCOVERED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN INFORMING THEIR CONSUMERS AND THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS/EXPENSIVE MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I'VE SINCE PLACED SEVERAL CALLS TO STATEN ISLAND NISSAN AND HAVE BEEN RECEIVING THE RUN AROUND. I'VE ALSO CONTACTED THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT WHO'D INFORMED ME TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO GET IT INSPECTED. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INSPECTION.
DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY, VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUDDER/VIBRATE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, CAN'S ACCELERATE, SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY. TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC, WHERE HE DIAGNOSES THE PROBLEM AS TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR COOLANT ISSUES. HOSE BROKE AND THE FLUID FROM THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION MIXED CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO STOP WORKING. TAKE TO NISSAN DEALER, TOLD $6000.00 TO FIX. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SINCE I PURCHASED VEHICLE USED (FORD WARRANTY). TOLD FORD WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING, SINCE THE "TRANSMISSION" WASN'T REALLY THE PROBLEM. IT WAS THE COOLANT LINES TO THE TRANSMISSION THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. JUST FORD (BIG BUSINESS) TRYING TO FIND A WAY AROUND PAYING FOR SOMETHING. I PAID FOR THE WARRANTY, AND THE WARRANTY IS BASICALLY USELESS. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LIBERTY FORD, MAPLE HTS., OHIO THAT IT WOULD COVER TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHAT A SCAM. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER NISSAN VEHICLE NOR WILL I EVER PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. FRUSTRATED NISSAN OWNER IN OHIO.
CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 100,000 MILES AND BEGAN TO VIBRATE IN TRANSMISSION THEN NOTICED RADIATOR WAS FULL OF SLIMY SLUDGE MECHANIC SUGGESTED WE REPLACE RADIATOR AND THERMOSTATS WHICH WE DID ($478.52). RAN FOR ABOUT A WEEK AFTER AND JUST SHUT OFF ONE DAY THROWING UP ENGINE CODES FOR TRANSMISSION. THAT'S WHEN WE DISCOVERED THE COOLANT CONTAMINATION. UPON CALLING NISSAN THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS NOT GOING TO BE CHEAP WOULD NEED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. CAR HAS BEEN SITTING SINCE AND I STILL OWE ON IT BUT CANT AFFORD THE 3-6K DOLLAR ESTIMATES I HAVE RECEIVED.
FUEL LEVEL MALFUNCTION CAUSING FALSE READING OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE.
RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS REPAIR. THERE NEEDS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AS THIS IS HAPPENING TO NISSAN OWNERS AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE MAIN STREET AND VEHICLE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN I COULD ONLY GO ABOUT 10-15 MPH BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION
TRANSMISSION FAILED FROM RADIATOR LEAK. NISSAN DIDN'T NOTIFY US. CALLED CORPORATE ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS AND WE KEEP GETTING A RUN AROUND. WE'VE BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE HAS TO MANY MILES OR TO OLD. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH MANGER AND WAS TOLD THERE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE. EACH TIME THE MANAGERS WERE ALWAYS BUSY. THEY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON A BUSY HIGHWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS INOPERABLE. THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
LEFT MY HOUSE GARAGE AND SUDDENLY I NOTICES THAT THE CAR WAS LOOSING THE POWER, SO I WENT BACK TO THE HOUSE AFTER FEW MILES DRIVING. AND NEXT MORNING, I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC, THE ENGINE DIDN'T START. SO I CALLED TO TOW MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, CAR WOULDN'T BE FUNCTION DUE TO THE TRANSMISSMISSION AND COMPUTER FAILURE. MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP, SO I DONT KNOW THE EXACT ODOMETER.
TIMING CHAIN FAILED. APPARENTLY NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS TO REPAIR THE ISSUE FOR THOSE WHO CAME IN, THE BULLETIN IS NTB09-128 DATE NOVEMBER 16, 2009. NISSAN KNEW OF THE ISSUE AND DID NO ISSUE A RECALL THE FIX IT FOR ALL OF THOSE EFFECTED. I WAN NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS BULLETIN BY THE DEALER AND WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE RADIATOR LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND FRIED THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM IN NISSANS. WHEN TAKEN TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC HE SAID IT WOULD COST $5000 PLUS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
LAST YEAR WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I BEGIN TO NOTICE A "JERKING" MOTION. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD NEED A FLUSH AND THAT THIS WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. FAST FORWARD ROUGHLY A MONTH LATER AND MY CAR COMPLETELY GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. NO WARNING JUST STOPPED DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS "GONE" BECAUSE THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I SIMPLY CAN NOT AFFORD TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE BEING A SINGLE MOTHER. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS SLIGHTLY OVER 100,00 MILES THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS S DEFECT IN THE EQUIPMENT THAT NISSAN IS SEEKING AND THE MILEAGE SHOULD NOT MATTER. THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF RESOLUTION ON THE MATTER. AS IT STANDS MY CAR HAS BEEN IMMOBILE FOR THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS AND I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. IT'S A SAD SITUATION AND NISSAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED, SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE.
MY COOLANT SYSTEM HAS LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION SYSTEM CAUSING MALFUNCTION OF BOTH. THIS CAUSES MY CAR TO HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING AND WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO GIVE OUT COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION.THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF AND HAS NOT ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED.
THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER EACH REFUELING, THE GAUGE REGISTERS EMPTY FOR A WHILE AND THEN REPORTS ERRATICALLY ON THE FUEL LEVEL AND IS NOT RELIABLE. I SEE ON-LINE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND WAS ADDRESSED WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 72000 MILES. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PART FAILURE, WHY WASN'T IT/ ISN'T IT HANDLED AS A RECALL?

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.
TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND COULDN'T ACCELERATE, MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING, ABOUT RAN OVER BY TRAILER. RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT NISSAN ISN'T TAKING CARE OF.
STOPPED AT NISSAN DEALER TO TRADE 2007 XTERRA. DEALER TOLD ME MY TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,000 TO $3,000. NISSAN ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NTB09-128. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TOLD ME IF CHAIN FAILS VALVE TRAIN AND ENGINE WILL BE RUINED AND COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT IF FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING.
NOTICED A STRAWBERRY COLORED FLUID COMING FROM THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW RESERVOIR. CHECKED THE RADIATOR AND FOUND THAT THE WHOLE COOLING SYSTEM HAD THE SAME COLOR OF FLUID. I TOOK MY XTERRA TO A RADIATOR SHOP AND HAD THE COOLING SYSTEM FLUSHED AND ANTIFREEZE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT WHAT HAPPENED WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER HAD FAILED AND THAT ANTIFREEZE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED TOGETHER AND WENT THROUGH THE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION. I FIRST GOT THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND COOLING SYSTEM FLUSHED AGAIN. I HAD BEEN HEARING A SUSPICIOUS NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND NOTICED THAT TRANSMISSION WAS STARTING TO SLIP. ALL THIS IN WILLISTON, ND WHICH WAS 620 MILES FROM MY HOME. I HAD TO TAKE THE TRAIN HOME. WE HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR MY WIFE TO USE SO I COULD USE HER NISSAN ARMADA TO GO BACK TO WILLISTON AND TOW IT BACK HOME. I ALSO HAD TO RENT AN AUTO TRANSPORT TRAILER. MY CAR IS NOW IN THE SHOP GETTING THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY MECHANIC AND READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR THE TRANSMISSION IS TO GET IT REBUILT OR REPLACED, WHICH CAN TAKE UP TO $6000, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU GO. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE ONLINE THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST 300 COMPLAINTS FILED, AND I AM SURE THERE HAS BEEN OTHER ISSUES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN REPORTED. I ALSO HAVE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AND THERE WAS WARRANTY EXTENSION GRANTED UP TO 100,00 MILES. I AM SURE THAT THE NHTSA IS ALSO AWARE THAT 90% OF THE COMPLAINTS ARE FROM CAR OWNERS THAT HAVE OVER 100,000 MILES ON THERE ODOMETER. I AM ALSO SURE THAT NISSAN IS ALSO AWARE OF THIS AND KNOW THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND ARE DOING WHAT EVER IS POSSIBLE TO AVOID FIXING AND REPLACING 100'S OF TRANSMISSIONS. I AM HOPING THAT THIS MATTER CAN BE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY AND ONCE AND FOR ALL.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INNERLOOP OF THE BELTWAY 495 FROM FALLS CHURCH VA, TO CHEVY CHASE MD AFTER WORK AROUND 330PM. I WAS ON THE MIDDLE LANE ON THE AMERICAN LEGION BRIDGE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK LOST POWER AND I HAD NO CONTROL OR WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S WERE MOVING BUT THE TRUCK BARELY MOVED. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND SLOWLY MOVED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER WHERE OTHER CARS COULD HAVE HIT ME. NISSAN'S FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS FAULTY RADIATOR THAT HAS AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSIONS OF BOTH THE XTERRA'S, PATHFINDERS, AND FRONTIERS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I AM OVER 100,000 AND THAT I AM NOT COVERED UNDER THIS WARRANTY FOR NISSAN'S ISSUE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE AWARE THAT THIS COULD POSSIBLE LEAD TO A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH THESE TRANSMISSION ISSUES.
RADIATOR CRACKED AND COOLING GOT INTO MY TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AT A DEALERSHIP IN 2014. WHICH I THINK DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE WARNED ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM TOO. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND OVERDRIVE STARTED SHUTTERING AND SO I HAD TO PUT IT INTO 4TH GEAR TO MAKE IT ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY. SO THEN I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE WHAT I COULD DO WHAT CAUSES IT TO SHUTTER AND THEN I SEEN THE NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT THE COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION SO I CHECKED THE RADIATOR AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS WHITE FOAM OR STICKY STUFF IN THERE. SO NOW IT'S GOING TO COST ABOUT $3,000 FOR A TRANSMISSION AND TO HAVE IT PUT IN AND I STILL OWE $4,000 ON THE VEHICLE WHICH IS NOW A YARD ORNAMENT UNTIL I SAVE THE MONEY UP TO PAY FOR THE TRANSMISSION
IN 2015 MY FIANC TRUCK BROKE DOWN LEAVING HER STRANDED. SHE HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE LOCAL NISSAN COMPANY WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE SUV NEW. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND IT SHOWED WHERE THE RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION. SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE MORE THAN $6,000. WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT NISSAN CORPERATE. NISSAN REP STATED THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DODO TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THERE'S NO WAY YOU CAN PREDICT HOW LONG A TRANSMISSION WOULD LAST. WE'VE REACHED OUT TO NISSAN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND WERE TOLD THAT BASED ON THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE THEY WON'T PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. MY FIANC TRAVELS DUE TO HER JOB SO OF COURSE IT WOULD HAVE HIGH MILEAGE.NISSAZN EXTENDED THERE WARRANTY FROM 30K TO 80K THEN 100K, AGAIN THERE NO WAY YOU CAN PREDICT A FAILURE. NISSAN NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THESE FAULTY RADIATORS AND FIX THESE VEHICLES. I AM A NISSAN OWNER IVE HAD 4 NISSANS THIS LEAVES A BAD LOOK ON NISSAN. I MYSELF WILL NOT NOR WILL I REFER ANYONE ELSE TO BUY OR LEASE ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT. I'M IN NC AND I'VE REFFERD AT LEAST 60 OF ,MY FRIENDS AND COLLEGES TO PURCHASE NISSAN. ALL THE STAFF AT DEACON JONES KNOW ME AND KNOW MY REPUTATION. I WAS TOLD BY A REP AT COOPERATE TO SPEAK WITH THE MANAGEMENT TO SEE IF THEY WOULD DISCOUNT MY REPAIR. MANAGEMENT STATED, THEY COULD ONLY COVER IT IF COORPERATE AGREED TO FIX IT. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS CASE, ITS BEEN ONGOING. WE'VE REACHED OUT TO COORPERATE SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME WE GET THE RUN AROUND TELLING US THAT THE VEHICLE IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD NOW. WE'VE ALSO ASKED TO SPEAK TO MANAGEMENT AND CONTINUE TO BE TOLD THERE BUSY OR SOMEONE WILL CONTACT US. AGAIN NO RETURN CALLS. WE HAVE RECEIVED EMAILS SURVEYS.

THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR THAT DETECTS IF THERE IS A PASSENGER PRESENT HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. WHILE DRIVING THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT WILL RANDOMLY TURN THE AIRBAG ON AND OFF, WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER PRESENT. THE HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT A PASSENGER MAY ACTUALLY BE PRESENT AND SENSOR WILL NOT TURN THE AIRBAG "ON" AND IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WILL NOT BE DEPLOYED. AND ALSO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG COULD BE DEPLOYED WHEN IT SHOULDN'T BE, MEANING THERE IS NO PASSENGER PRESENT, LEADING TO HIGHER REPAIR COSTS. OUR AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY AND, NOW THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT LIGHT STAYS ON. SINCE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS IS STILL A MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE REVIEWED BY A LOCAL DEALER. WITH THE CURRENT ISSUES IN THE MEDIA ABOUT THE AIRBAGS, THIS SHOULD BE CARED FOR.
OUR 2007 XTERRA AT 87,000 MILES LEFT MY WIFE AND 2 KIDS STRANDED ON THE ROAD WITH A DESTROYED TRANSMISSION DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR COOLING LINES THAT SUPPORT COOLING THE TRANSMISSION. THE COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE RESULTING PRESSURE CAUSED THE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP TO BLOW WHEN THE ENGINE OVERHEATED. THIS STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE LOOKING FLUID LEAKED ALL OVER THE GROUND AND WAS DIFFICULT TO CLEAN-UP THIS IS A KNOWN NISSAN DEFECT ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT OR FURTHER ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION RESULTS.
ON DECEMBER 17, 2012, 2007 XTERRA WITH 63,200 MILES WAS TAKEN TO NISSAN DEALER IN OREGON. THE COMPLAINT: AT 50-55 MPH THE TRANSMISSION SKIPS AND CATCHES LIKE A BUMP ON SMOOTH SURFACE. ALSO ASKED THAT DEALER CHECK WHINE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SERVICE DEPT RECOMMENDED NO REPAIRS FOR RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION AT THIS TIME JUST RECOMMEND ROUTINE SERVICE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AS PER 60,000 INTERVAL FLUIDS NOT CONTAMINATED. VEHICLE PICKED UP AFTER REPAIR AND VIBRATION WHEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTING RESUMED WITHIN HALF MILE OF DEALERSHIP. RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALER. DIAGNOSIS: MUST NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVESHAFT PROBLEM, MUST BE THE TRANSMISSION IS ALREADY GONE. ONE WEEK LATER PICKED UP VEHICLE WITH NEW TRANSMISSION. WAS TOLD TRANSMISSION FLUID LOOKED LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK CONTAMINATED BY FAILED ORIGINAL RADIATOR. TOTAL BILL: $3,178.99 INCLUDING A $2,500 COPAY UNDER WARRANTY EXTENSION TO ADDRESS CHRONIC DEFECTIVE RADIATOR CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,500.
I HAD BROUGHT THE XTERRA TO THE MECHANIC ON MAY 4TH FOR INTERMITTENT VIBRATIONS ( WHICH I ATTRIBUTED TO THE ROUGH ROADS S/P WINTER AS IT OCCURRED AT THE SAME POINTS ON THE SAME ROADS ) OVER 2 MONTH AND A NEW INTERMITTENT THUMPING NOISE HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING GEARS IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. NOTHING CAME UP ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SHOWING ANY ISSUES OTHER THAN THE KNOWN ALERT FOR THE GAS LEVEL PART THAT SHIFT THE BED 6 MONTHS AGO AND I REFUSE TO PAY $400 FOR A $40 PART THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE, ( ANOTHER ISSUE NISSAN IS AWARE OF AS IT COMES UP ON THE COMPUTER TO THE MECHANIC THAT THIS A KNOWN DEFECT BUT WON'T REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE) END RESULT, TRANSMISSION FLUID AND RADIATOR FLUID WERE MIXING DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE BY NISSAN AND DEFECTIVE PARTS. THERE IS NO RECALL. THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION COOLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED COSTING OVER $1600. 2007 NISSAN XTERRA FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NEAR EMPTY BEFORE WE REALIZED THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *TR
A HESITATION IN THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATION BEGAN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY UPON DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AFTER A FULL STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, BUT NOT AT ANY OTHER TIME IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN DEPARTING THE DEALERSHIP AFTER WHICH A NEW TIMING CHAIN HAD BEEN REPLACED. WHEN REVIEWED BY THE DEALERSHIP UPON RETURN TO THE SERVICE AREA (ANOTHER APPOINTMENT HAD BEEN MADE AT LATER TIME), A LOSS OF OVER ONE QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS DETECTED (OVER WHAT TIME PERIOD WAS UNCLEAR), BUT NO KNOWN SOURCE OF EXTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS FOUND. THIS LED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT INTERNAL LEAKAGE WAS VERY LIKELY OCCURRING. DUE TO THE MANY INSTANCES OF RADIATOR CRACKS AND TOXIC MIXING OF FLUIDS AMONG SIMILAR YEAR MODELS (MID-2000 MODEL YEARS OF NISSAN XTERRA), THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT THE RADIATOR BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION THOROUGHLY FLUSHED, WHICH MIGHT PREVENT THE TRANSMISSION FROM REQUIRING A COMPLETE OVERHAUL IN THE FUTURE - ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED FOR A TOTAL OF $1500 INCLUDING DISCOUNT; THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WELL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR RESOLVING ISSUES THAT HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS, HENCE THE DEALERSHIP'S CHARGES. A REQUEST WAS NONETHELESS MADE TO GET REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER (NISSAN), CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS ISSUE WAS DEALT WITH AT A VERY EARLY STAGE AND MIGHT THEREFORE RESULT IN A LOWER PROBABILITY OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE, WHICH COULD COST SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6-7,000 OR MORE). WE BOUGHT A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA IN 2010 FROM AUTONATION IN DENVER. WE BOUGHT A WARRANTY EFFECTIVE UNTIL 8/29/2015 OR 120,000 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN BRINGING IT TO AUTONATION FOR SERVICE FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN REGARDING A FLAW IN THE RADIATOR THAT LEAKS FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO SAY THE LEAST. NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THIS PROBLEM. IF WE WOULD HAVE KNOWN, WE WOULD HAVE FIXED THE RADIATOR YEARS AGO AND OUR CAR WOULD NOT BE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. OUR CAR HAS BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES FOR THE LAST MONTH AT 117,000 MILES. NISSAN IS REFUSING TO HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THE TRANSMISSION IS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY WE PURCHASED.

SATURDAY MORNING, APRIL 18, WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT IN MY WIFES 2007 XTERRA, THE VEHICLE INEXPLICABLY ACCELERATED IN DRAMATIC FASHION MOMENTARILY OUT OF CONTROL. I RODE THE BRAKES, AS THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD SOME 50 60 FT IN A RAPID BUCKING MOTION UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. I WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES, RESTARTED, AND THE ENGINE RESUMED ITS INTENSE RPM. AGAIN I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED PERHAPS 10 MINUTES, AND RESTARTED WITH NORMAL PERFORMANCE. IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH THERE IS A RESULTANT BRAKE SQUEAL, THAT WASNT PRIOR APPARENT, AND DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE BRAKING ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIOLENT ACCELERATION ACTION. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ACTIVATED AS WELL.
EXITING PARKING LOT, VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN, "ACCUTE" OUT OF CONTROL - ACCELERATION. IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL, YET XTERRA CONTINUED FORWARD SOME 40 - 50 FEET UNIMPEDED, IN A SEVERE BUCKING FASHION. FORTUNATELY NO PERSON, NOR OBJECT WAS IN MY PATH. CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE SUV TO LOCAL DEALER (VALLEJO NISSAN) FOR INSPECTION. COMPUTER ANALYSIS DISPLAYED NO MECHANICAL ISSUES. THERE ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT, CRITICAL FLAWS, JUST WAITING TO BE UNLEASHED ON AN UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC. NISSAN HAS STAUNCHLY REFUSED ANY FURTHER EVALUATION.YOUR ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. VEHICLE ABRUPTLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS FORCED TO STOP. A SERIOUS, POSSIBLY DEADLY, ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED IF THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAD NOT STOPPED. THE VEHICLE HAD SHUDDERING DURING ACCELERATION PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT BUT HAD NEVER GIVEN ANY INDICATION IT WOULD STALL UNEXPECTEDLY. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN MAINTAINED BY NISSAN AND NO ISSUES WERE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION DURING THIS SERVICE. WHEN NISSAN DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE THEY FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION COOLER HAD LEAKED AND ALLOWED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ENGINE COOLANT TO MIX. THIS LEAD TO TRANSMISSION DAMAGE AND UNSAFE, UNEXPECTED FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN ALSO SAID THEY HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS COMMON FAILURE FOR MANY YEARS. ON 3/28/15, PARKING MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA (126,0000 MILES) IN TAMPA, FL. BEFORE I HAD THE CAR IN "PARK", THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE, THE ENGINE STARTED SMOKING AND A LOT OF PURPLE/GREEN/GRAY FLUID LEAKED OUT FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. AFRAID TO MOVE THE CAR, AAA TOWED IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN TAMPA. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED AND SAW THE COLOR OF THE FLUIDS, HE QUICKLY DETERMINED THAT MY CAR HAD LEAKED BOTH TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FLUID. HE SAID HE HEARD THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH NISSAN XTERRAS. I WAS SHOCKED! SINCE PURCHASING NEW IN DECEMBER 2006, I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN MY CAR TO NISSAN FOR ALL SERVICE. THEN IT GETS WORST, THE DEALERSHIP "TECHNICIAN" REPLIED WITH THE EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE THAT I GAVE TO HIM WHEN I CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE SYMPTOMS ARE NO CRANK, MILKY LOOKING RADIATOR FLUID AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FUSES KEEPS BLOWING. GAUGE SAID I HAD GAS RAN OUT IN BUMPER TO BUMPER 75-80 MILE AN HOUR TRAFFIC NARROWLY MISSED BEING CRUSHED BY SEMI TRACTOR TRAILER. *TR
TRAVELING ON BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC AND ALMOST WAS HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILER DUE TO FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD NOT COME ON YET. SEVERAL HOURS LATTER IT DID COME ON. THIS IS SAFETY I WAS LUCK TO NOT BE HIT AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED BY TRACTOR TRAILER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY XTERRA ON THE FREEWAY AT 5:30 AM AND SUDDENLY MY CAR QUIT ACCELERATING, IT WAS AS IF IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY SO THAT I WOULDN'T GET HIT FROM BEHIND. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE CAR GOT ME TO MY DESTINATION. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE IS COMMON IN XTERRA'S AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN HAS NOT MADE THIS ISSUE KNOWN TO OWNERS. IT MAY WELL CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT. ADDITIONALLY, IT IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR FOR WHICH NISSAN TAKES LITTLE TO NO RESPONSIBILITY THOUGH THE DEFECT IS THEIRS. *TR
CONTAMINATION OF THE TRANSMISSION WITH ANTI FREEZE DUE TO LEAK IN COOLING SYSTEM, RESULTING IN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
ACCORDING TO GARAGE, SAME COMPLAINT WITH OTHER SECOND GENERATION NISSAN XTERRA OWNERS. RADIATOR FLUID MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CAUSED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. DRIVING DOWNTOWN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH MY 8 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER AND HER MOTHER IN THE CAR AND LOSING POWER COMPLETELY AT AN INTERSECTION DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM WAS UNNERVING TO SAY THE LEAST. *TR
