THE FUEL GAUGE IN OUR XTERRA DOES NOT READ ACCURATELY. WE WERE TOLD IT NEEDS A FUEL SENSOR. EVEN WHEN THE TANK IS FULL WE HAVE TO TRACK THE NUMBER OF MILES TRAVELED BECAUSE THE GAUGE FLOATS OR READS "EMPTY." I HAVE READ OVER 30 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS JUST ON THIS SITE. AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE LAUNCHED SINCE THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR VEHICLES UP TO 2006 AS WELL. OBVIOUSLY IT WASN'T FIXED FOR 2007.
VEHICLE VIBRATES AT 40 MPH- MAKING IT UNSAFE - TURNS OUT IT'S TRANSMISSION ISSUE.. WAS INFORMED THIS IS NOT A NEW ISSUE AFTER READING ONLINE ..... NISSAN HAS NEVER RECALLED THESE VEHICLES AND INSTEAD WAS SUED DUE TO THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE MANY OTHER NISSANS HAVE HAD...I WAS NEVER INFORMED REGARDING SUCH AN ISSUE. THIS IS UNSAFE DUE TO THE SHAKING SHUDDER THIS PROBLEM CAUSES ESPECIALLY IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA AND IT ISN'T FSIR THAT THE CUSTOMER STAYS STUCK WITH A FAULTY VEHICLE ... THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED BUT THE SPECIFICS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP12004 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
TRANSMISSION OVER HEATS DUE TO RADIATOR HOSE CORROSION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V690000 (AIR BAGS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2007 NISSAN XTERRA. CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO PAY A $2500 COPAY BECAUSE HIS VEHICLE WAS OVER 80,000 MILES. CONSUMER DOESN'T COMPLY BECAUSE HE INQUIRED ABOUT VEHICLE PROBLEMS BEFORE THE 80,000 MILE MARK. *TA THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE HIS WAS DRIVING, SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALER THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO COOLANT AND OIL MIXING. *JP
I PARK THE CAR AND WHEN I CAME BACK COULDN'T START. THOUGHT IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM. TRIED JUMP START WITH MY OTHER CAR, NO LUCK. LEFT IN THE PARKING LOT FOR A FEW DAYS. CAME BACK AND HOOK MY CODE READER AND IT SHOWS U1000. U1000 IS GROUND HARNESS PROBLEM. I TRIED TO CLEAN THE BATTERY TERMINALS BOTH SIDES BUT NO LUCK. SO TOWED THE CAR TO DARCARS NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME NEED TO REPLACE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID WILL COST $4700?.SO I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN XTERRA 2005-2007 AND EVEN NEW MODELS HAD RADIATION FLUID LEAK INTO TRANSMISSION. SO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF I HAVE HARNESS GROUNDING PROBLEMS OR ?RADIATION FLUID LEAK INTO TRANSMISSION? DANG. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, AN UNUSUAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AS THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BEARING FOR DRIVER AND PASSENGER WHEELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL UP AND THE GAS HAND STAYED AT THE SAME POSITION. WHEN STARTING THE IGNITION THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED BELOW E. WHEN RESTARTING THE CAR THE NEXT DAY, THE FUEL GAUGE SAID I HAD 1/4 TANK. THE VEHICLE STAYED AT 1/4 TANK AND CHANGED BACK AND FORTH TO BELOW E. THE CAR THEN RAN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MY XTERRA WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM STOP TO START, THEN ONE LATE EVENING IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHORTING OUT THE FUSE TO START THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION, HE STATED THE SAME AND THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT IN XTERRA, HE ALSO SAID THAT IT WILL COST THOUSAND OF DOLLARS TO FIX AND EVEN WITH A NEW TRANSMISSION IT WILL LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THE ELECTRICITY WILL BURN OUT BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT. I CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WHO STATED THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT WAS GOING TO HELP FIX IT OR REIMBURSE ME ANYTHING. I WAS STRANDED WITH A SMALL TODDLER AT 10PM IN THE RAIN AND NO MEANS OF GETTING HOME THANKS TO NISSAN'S KNOWN DEFECT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
DEC. 2014: GAS GAUGE READING BECAME ERRATIC. CONTACTED DEALER WHO SAID SENSOR IN TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $400. MAY 12, 2015, DELIVERED VEHICLE TO DEALER TO REPAIR GAS GAUGE SENSOR, ALSO EXPERIENCING VIBRATION AND RUMBLE AT 40 TO 45 MPH WHICH STARTED 10 DAYS AGO (88,000 MILES). DEALER INFORMED ME THAT VIBRATION WAS DO TO "INSULATING SLEEVE" ON DRIVESHAFT THAT HAD BROKEN LOOSE AND DRIVESHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $750. VIBRATION AT 40-45 MPH SOUNDS SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR TO PROBLEM OTHERS HAVE REPORTED AS TRANSMISSION GOES OUT DUE TO COOLANT CONTAMINATION.
I BOUGHT MY 07 XTERRA 6 MONTHS AGO FROM TRANSITOWNE AMHERST AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. NOW 6 MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE TERMINAL DUE TO THE KNOWN PROBLEM WHERE COOLANT LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSES IT TO FAIL. I BELIEVE ANY DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT A VEHICLE THEY WERE SELLING WOULD NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE BEFORE THEY SELL IT. *TR

WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH RADIATOR CAUSED RADIATOR FLUID TO SEEP INTO TRANSMISSION CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. NEITHER DEALER NOR NISSAN WOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
SITTING AT LIGHT IN THE LEFT LANE, WAITING FOR IT TO TURN GREEN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD RACING SOUND. NOT SURE IF IT WAS TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE MAKING THE NOISE. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES AND SAW THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS ON H. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, BECAUSE I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION, IN THE LEFT LANE, TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AND THERE WERE CARS ON MY RIGHT AND CARS GOING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. AS SOON AS I COULD MOVE, I PULLED OVER TO A SAFE SPOT, BUT BEFORE I COULD, THE CAR STARTED OVERHEATING AND SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. IT WAS TOWED TO MY GARAGE AND AFTER MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT, HE SAID THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR NISSAN XTERRAS 2007, BECAUSE THE RADIATOR IS DEFECTIVE. THE COOLANT MIXES WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR STOPS RUNNING! APPARENTLY, NISSAN KNOWS THAT THE PART IS DEFECTIVE SO THEY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 80,000 MILE AND ANYTHING PAST THAT I HAVE TO PAY. WELL, I HAVE 90,400 MILES AND CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NISSAN CAN GET AWAY WITH KNOWING A PART IS DEFECTIVE AND NOT RECALLING ALL TRUCKS AFFECTED. THEY CERTAINLY CHANGED THE RADIATOR DESIGN FOR THE NEWER VEHICLES, ADMITTING THAT IT IS A PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD RECALL THE CARS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS SO WIDESPREAD AND NISSAN WILL NOT TAKE OWNERSHIP OF IT!!!!!!. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND LOOK ON THE INTERNET TO SEE HOW COMMON THIS ISSUE IS FOR XTERRAS AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT GOT SCREWED BY NISSAN. THANK YOU. *TR
I NOTICED A VIBRATION, LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING ON THE RUMBLE STRIP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH, AT AROUND 2000 RPM AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO OVERDRIVE. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE TECH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, COOLER SYSTEM FAILURE, IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER TAKING ONE LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT. THE COOLER HAD FAILED LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND VICE VERSA. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND COOLER ASSEMBLY. I HAD JUST UNDER 97,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO PAY $3300 FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN AND HOW THEY HAVE HANDLED WHAT IS CLEARLY A PREVALENT AND KNOWN ISSUE WITH COOLER FAILURES IN CERTAIN MODELS. A $3000 DEDUCTIBLE (PLUS TAX) THAT EXPIRES AT 100,000 MILES FOR AN ISSUE THAT'S KNOWN TO OCCUR AT CLOSE TO 100,000 MILES IS NOT MUCH OF A CONSOLATION.
WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHWAY SPEED OF 70 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE OF AN INTERSTATE, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED. THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT LANE. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TO THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER UNTIL I WAS TRAVELING AT 30 MPH. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY DUE TO TRYING TO MERGE BETWEEN SEMIS THAT WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE 75 MILES TO GET CLOSE TO HOME AND AT A TRUSTED REPAIR SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM (LIKE SO MANY OTHERS). THIS CAUSED THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AND CONTAMINATION OF ALL OF THE LINES AND GASKETS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE, BASED ON THE LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THE REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED AT 5,000 TO 5,500 DOLLARS, PLUS THE TOWING. MOST OF THE PROBLEMS, INCLUDING MINE, OCCUR AFTER THE EXTENDED PERIOD. DUE TO THE RAPID FAILURE, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
THE RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND RUINED THE TRANSMISSION AND VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE CAR WILL NOT RUN AND STALLED OUT IN AN INTERSECTION. *TR
THIS IS ONE OF THE MANY TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH 2007 XTERRAS WHERE THE COOLANT LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYS IT. THE REPAIR COST IS 8500 DOLLARS IF THE 100000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS BEEN PASSED. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS MY RESPONSIBILITY DESPITE THE HUNDRED OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, WHEN THE XTERRA CHANGES GEARS THERE IS A ROUGH VIBRATION THAT KEEPS GETTING WORSE THE LONGER IT GOES FOR. HAD I NOT LEARNED ABOUT THIS ON MY OWN ACCORD THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS AN OIL LEAKAGE THAT DESTROY THE ENGINE. THE DEALER DOES NOT FEEL ITS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. HOWEVER BUYING A NEW CAR I FEEL IT SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 5YRS. *TR
MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA CAME ON WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OVER DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON. OBDII CODE FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS P0700 TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM TCS MALFUNCTION. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NO LONGER USE 1ST, 2ND, OR 3RD GEAR. REVERSE, NEUTRAL, AND DRIVE COULD STILL BE SELECTED BUT WHEN IN DRIVE IT WAS IN 4TH GEAR ONLY. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD SEEN BEFORE MANY TIMES NOW. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WAS 1500 MILES OVER WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE. THAT IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS PROBLEM AGAINST NISSAN BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2005-2010 XTERRAS AND THEY WOULDN'T DO A RECALL. NOW NISSAN IS TELLING ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME AND THEY WILL CHARGE ME $7500 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, LINES AND FLUID. THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS AS MY 2007 XTERRA ONLY VALUES AT $8000. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED WHEN I BOUGHT THIS SUV IN AUGUST OF 2012 THAT IT WAS PART OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND IN THE 2 YEARS I HAVE OWNED I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED BY NISSAN OF A SETTLEMENT THAT COULD HAVE ALERTED ME TO HAVE THIS CHECKED SOONER BEFORE TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAPPENED. I ALSO WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR IF I HAD KNOWN THERE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE RADIATOR LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION THAT NISSAN IS NOT WILLING TO RECALL FOR. NOW I AM TRAPPED WITH A LOAN ON A LEMON I CANT DRIVE AND CANT AFFORD TO FIX. *TR
ENGINE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXING CAUSING OVERHEATING AND TRANSMISSION FAILURES. *TR
THE RADIATOR USED IN MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA IS A FAULTY PRODUCT WHICH CAUSED A LEAK OF THE RADIATOR FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID SYSTEM. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HEATS UP DURING LONGER PERIODS OF DRIVING, THE RADIATOR FLUID ALSO HEATS UP AND EFFECTIVELY RUINS THE INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PARTS. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL ISSUES IN THE SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE, AND OFTEN TIMES IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE ACCELERATION IS KEY TO AVOIDING ACCIDENTS. *TR
I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC AND NOTICED THAT MY 07 NISSAN XTERRA WAS STRUGGLING TO CHANGE GEARS. WHEN IT DID NOT GO AWAY AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, I TOOK IT INTO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THEY FOUND THAT THE RADIATOR WAS FULL OF A BROWN MILK SHAKE SUBSTANCE. THEY DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD LEAKED IN THE RADIATOR AND MIXED WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. THE SHOP REPLACED THE RADIATOR. FLUSHED THE ANTIFREEZE SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. 6 MONTHS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED STUTTERING WHEN IT WAS CHANGING GEARS AT 45 - 50 AND 65-70. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL AAMCO. ONCE I ADVISED THE SERVICE REP WHAT TYPE OF CAR I HAD, HE LAUGHED AND SAID THEY THAT HAD ALREADY REBUILT OVER 30 XTERRA TRANSMISSION. THEY CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION AND ADVISED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REBUILT AND PROVIDED ME WITH AN REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $ 4200. THEY ADVISED TO CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO SEE WHAT THEY WOULD OFFER TO DO. THEY ALSO ADVISED OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECT. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANY INFORMATION ON THIS LAWSUIT. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY. WE STOPPED TO GET GAS AND THE TANK WAS ONLY HALF EMPTY. WE HAD THE MECHANIC CHECK THE CAR WHEN WE GOT HOME. HE SAID IT WAS A FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM THAT WAS COMMON IN XTERRAS. WE HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT WE'LL RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY ON LONGER TRIPS WHEN YOU CAN'T KEEP THE TANK MOSTLY FULL. WE ARE ALSO CONCERNED THAT OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WON'T REVEAL OTHER PROBLEMS TO US. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
FUEL GAUGE IS GIVING AN ERRONEOUS READING. PROBLEM STARTED AT AROUND JULY 2014 WITH MILEAGE AT AROUND 75,000 BUT CORRECTED ITSELF THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN FEW MONTHS AFTER WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND HAS BEEN ON SINCE. EMPTY LIGHT IS ON EVEN THOUGH THERE'S GAS IN TANK OR IT WILL READ FULL EVEN THOUGH THERE'S LESS THAN FULL IN TANK. EITHER WAY IT IS ERRATIC & NOT GIVING YOU THE CORRECT READING. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN AND A RECALL IN A FORM OF A WARRANTY EXTENSION SPECIFIC TO THAT PART AND PROBLEM HAS BEEN SENT OUT AND OF COURSE IT HAPPENS TO MY CAR AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. IT'S AUG 2015 AND MILEAGE IS NOW AT 82,650 AND WAY PAST THE WARRANTY EVEN WITH THE EXTENDED ONE THAT THEY HAD PUT OUT. CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUME AFFAIRS BUT WAS JUST TOLD THEY COULDN'T HELP AND TO FILE COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA AND/OR BBB WHICH I AM DOING AND HOPING THIS WOULD BE ATTENDED TO AS REPAIRS ARE TOO COSTLY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THESE VEHICLES.
A DEFECT CAUSED A CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION RADIATOR WHICH LEAKED FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING UNEXPECTED CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION IS RUINED BECAUSE BOTH THE RADIATOR ANTIFREEZE AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAVE MIXED. MY WIFE COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA 200 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND WHILE DRIVING IT HOME THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE DROVE OK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT ONCE I SLOWED, TO IN TOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOST THE GEARS ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IF THIS OCCURRED TO ME WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A MUCH GREATER DANGER. THIS MORE THAN LIKELY HAS OCCURRED TO OTHERS THAT OWN THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES, PUTTING THEM IN A VERY UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT. IF THERE WAS FLUID LOSS OR OVERHEATING IT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE A RECALL TO OCCUR FOR THE TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR CROSSOVER TO THE 2005-2010 NISSANS - XTERRA, PATHFINDER, AND FRONTIER. *JS
TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE MERGING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED OUT OF GEAR, THEN STUCK IN LOW GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID CAUSING ACCIDENT. *JS
I PULLED ON TO THE INTERSTATE ON WHICH THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 65 MPH, AND MY XTERRA WOULD NOT SHIFT PAST SECOND GEAR OR GO ABOVE 35 MPH. CARS WERE FLYING BY ME AND THOSE ENTERING INTERSTATE BEHIND ME WERE UNABLE TO GET AROUND ME DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF VEHICLES ON THE INTERSTATE PASSING US. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS AND LIMPED IT TO THE NEXT EXIT TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO COOLANT BEING LEAKED INTO IT. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLED. HOWEVER, IT WAS ONLY UP TO $100,000 MILES AND I CAN NO LONGER BE PART OF THAT LAWSUIT. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF AN ISSUE WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE IS CONTINUING TO HAPPEN TO OTHER XTERRA OWNERS AND PUTTING OTHERS AT RISK. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO CORRECT IT. IN FACT, ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC, THE VALVE NEEDED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IS ON BACK ORDER WITH NISSAN DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. APPARENTLY, THEY CANNOT KEEP UP WITH PRODUCTION OF THEM. *TR
THIS WEEK MY SONS 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WOULD NOT START AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP NEAR HIS COLLEGE IN SCRANTON PA. YESTERDAY WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR NEED TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF AROUND $5000! THIS IS SHOCKING BECAUSE MY SON INSISTS THAT HE NOTICED NOTHING AMISS WITH THE OPERATION OF HIS TRUCK UNTIL IT HE WAS UNABLE TO START IT. AFTER SPENDING 10 MINUTES ON THE INTERNET, I LEARNED ABOUT THE NISSAN TRANSMISSION CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. WE HAVE BEEN RELIGIOUS IN TERMS OF SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, AND OVERALL CARE OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THE COOLING/TRANSMISSIONS PROBLEMS PLAGUING NISSAN TRUCKS. IN ADDITION, I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT TWO SEPARATE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, ONE IN NEW YORK AND ANOTHER NOW IN PA. IT IS DISGRACEFUL THAT NEITHER NISSAN DEALERSHIP MENTIONED ANYTHING! THIS MORNING I CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OVER 100,000, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR US. I DO NOT HAVE $5000 AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY SONS NISSAN. AS OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED IN POSTINGS, THERE LIKELY MANY OTHERS WITH VEHICLES OVER THE 100,000 MARKER, NOW JUST EXPERIENCING THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING BY NISSAN. APPARENTLY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO LARGE NUMBER OF NISSAN VEHICLES. IT STARTED WITH MY GAS METER GETTING STUCK ON A QUARTER OF TANK. AND TWICE I RAN OUT OF GAS, THINKING I STILL HAD SOME GAS LEFT IN TANK. NOW MY EMPTY TANK LIGHT CUTS ON USUALLY AFTER I GET AROUND A HALF OF TANK. WHEN I FILL UP IT MAY TAKE 2 OR 3 TRIPS BEFORE THE SENSOR GETS OFF OF READING NO GAS. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL. VERY FRUSTRATING NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH IS IN TANK, ESPECIALLY ON LONG TRIPS. FRUSTRATING AS WELL, HAVING TO PUT GAS IN XTERRA EVERY 2-3 DAYS NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH IS ACTUALLY IN TANK. *TR
MY FUEL GAUGE REGISTERED ONLY 1/2 OF THE LAST QUARTER SO I COMPLETELY FILLED UP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR UP THE FUEL GAUGE NOW READ TOTALLY EMPTY, WITH THE YELLOW EMPTY LIGHT ON. I KNEW IT WAS FULL SO I RESET THE ODOMETER TO TRACK MILEAGE TO ESTIMATE FUEL CONTENT. AFTER ABOUT TWO DRIVING CYCLES THE GAUGE EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO THE FULL MARK AND SEEMED TO COME DOWN NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW THREE MORE TIMES. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL, BUT MY VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE THE TIME (SEPT 2013) AND DISTANCE (72000) MILES ALLOWED FOR THE RECALL. IT'S NOW MAY 2014, WITH 76000 MILES. THE DEALER, AND THE NISSAN 800 NUMBER JUST BLEW ME OFF AS BEING OUTSIDE THE RECALL WARRANTY LIMITS. ONE OF THE TIMES THE GAUGE HUNG UP AT THE LAST QUARTER TANK, YOU COULD RUN OUT OF FUEL IN TRAFFIC OR AN INTERSECTION. I FEEL IT'S SERIOUS ENOUGH TO RATE AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THERE IS A KNOWN SERVICE PROBLEM AND BULLETIN ON DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES THAT CAUSE A CHAIN TO SKIP, BREAK LOSE , OR BREAK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO A HIGH SPEED STALL. MY IS JUST GRINDING, WILL REPAIR, BUT NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WON'T PARTICIPATE IN A SOLUTION. *JS
ONE DAY I WENT TO PUT MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOWN, AS IT WENT DOWN I HEAR A WEIRD SOUND. WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE WINDOW BACK UP IT DIDN'T GO UP. I ENDED UP GOING TO WORK AND WHEN I GOT OFF I TRIED IT AGAIN, IT WENT UP. THINKING IT WAS JUST A ONE TIME THING A COUPLE DAYS LATER I PUT THE WINDOW DOWN TO TALK TO MY HUSBAND, DIDN'T GO BACK UP AGAIN. THIS TIME WE WERE ABOUT TO LEAVE SOMEWHERE THAT WOULD TAKE AN HOUR AND A HALF TO GET THERE, THEREFORE, WE HAD TO TRAVEL WITH THE WINDOW DOWN THERE AND BACK. RESULTING IN WORSE GAS MILEAGE AND CONSTANT WIND. WHEN WE GOT HOME MY HUSBAND HAD TO TRY TO TAKE SOME OF THE WINDOW APART TO GET THE WINDOW BACK UP. AFTER MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT IT IT SEEM TO BE THE ELECTRICAL SET UP WITH THE BUTTONS. FROM THEN TO NOW I HAVEN'T DARED TO PUT THE WINDOW DOWN AGAIN, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT'S IT'S GETTING COLD. IT WOULDN'T BE SUCH HUGE DEAL TO ME EXCEPT I HATE LEAVING THE WINDOW DOWN WHEN I'M NOT BY MY CAR AND THE FACT THAT I HAVE A BABY NOW AND ASK THAT WIND WOULD BE BLOWING ON HER. ALSO, 7 MONTHS AFTER THE WINDOW STARTED ACTING UP THE PASSENGER DRIVER SIDE DOOR BEGAN TO NOT OPEN UP FROM THE INSIDE AND ONLY SOMETHINGS FROM THE OUTSIDE. I'VE CHECKED THE CHILD LOCK AND IT IS NOT ON. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER IT STARTED DOING THAT MY HUSBAND AND I GOT HOME, HUSBAND WAS IN THE BACK WITH OUR BABY, I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. SOMEHOW THE DOOR GOT LOCKED AND WOULDN'T UNLOCK, TRIED TO UNLOCK IT FROM DRIVER DOOR UNLOCK BUTTON AND FROM PULLING ON THE NOB ON THE ACTUAL DOOR ITSELF, IT JUST WOULDN'T EVEN UNLOCK. THEREFORE, I HAD TO GO TO THE OTHER SIDE TO GET OUR BABY OUT AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE CARSEAT BASE TO GET OUT THE OTHER SIDE. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHY AND HOW WE COULD GET IT FIXED.. RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, PART WAS SETTLED IN CLASS ACTION SUITE AND OWNER WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF DEFECT AND OR HOW IT CAN BE FIXED UNTIL FAILURE ON HIGHWAY WITH FAMILY OF FOUR IN IT ON 3/28/2014, THE OWNER IS THE SOLE OWNER OF VEHICLE SINCE 2007, OWNER NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION AT ALL FROM NISSAN REGARDING THIS MANUFACTURER ISSUE UNTIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT NISSAN INFORMED OWNER OF ISSUE AND ALSO INFORMED OWNER OF $3,000.00 REPAIR CHARGE FOR THE FAULTY PARTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WITH MY FAMILY (MYSELF, MY WIFE, AND 2 CHILDREN). WE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN WHILE TRAVELING 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE TRUCK STARTED TO MAKE ALL KINDS OF NOISES, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY, AND I COMPLETELY LOST ALL ACCELERATION. FORTUNATELY FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR OUT OF ANY IMMEDIATE DANGER AND BRING THE CAR TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER BECAUSE OF MY QUICK REACTIONS. MY FAMILY AND I WERE STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. THIS WAS A VERY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF US. I WAS ABLE TO CALL ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER TO COME AND PICK UP MY FAMILY, BUT I HAD TO STAY WITH THE TRUCK UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH, I LEARNED OF THIS FAULTY NISSAN DESIGN PROBLEM AND WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT THE NHTSA BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN OPEN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE. I AM PLEADING WITH YOU TO SERIOUSLY LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ANYONE HAS TO LOSE THEIR LIFE OR FACE A PERMANENT DISABILITY RESULTING FROM THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE. THE RADIATOR LEAKED FLUID INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF BOTH. A LAWSUIT WAS FILED AND SETTLED BY NISSAN WITHOUT THEM TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FAULTY DESIGN. I GUESS THIS WON'T GET NOTICED UNTIL PEOPLE START DYING FROM NISSAN'S DEFECTIVE DESIGN. WHEN THAT DOES HAPPEN, NISSAN WILL JUST PAYOFF THE FAMILIES SO THIS WHOLE ISSUE JUST GOES AWAY! *TR
AT 60MPH AND ALSO 40MPH THE VEHICLE VIBRATES HEAVILY AND IS SLOW TO REACT TO POWER INPUTS WITH NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR. THIS WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY THE KNOWN DEFECT RELATED TO THE RADIATOR / HEAT EXCHANGER, WHERE THE ENGINE COOLANT MIXES WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND GETS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS THEN TURNS INTO A "PINK MILKSHAKE" CONSISTENCY FLUID AND COMPLETELY RUINS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND VALVE ASSEMBLY. THIS REQUIRES A COMPLETE REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THERE IS NO WARNING SIGN AND THIS AFFECTS THESE VEHICLES AT DIFFERENT RATES. THIS CAN CAUSE CARS TO SEIZE UP UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR NISSAN TRUCKS MODEL YEAR 2005 - 2010 THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF THIS WILL HAPPEN, IT IS A MATTER OF WHEN. IN MY PERSONAL SITUATION I HAD NO INJURY OR IMMEDIATE CAR SHUTDOWN, HOWEVER I WOULD HAVE NO WARNING IF THAT DID OCCUR AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS HAS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND IS UNCALLED FOR TO HAVE A KNOWN DEFECT AND NOT DISCLOSE THIS TO OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A PERFECTLY GOOD WAY TO MITIGATE THIS ISSUE BY ADDING A DEDICATED COOLER FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND BYPASS THE RADIATOR, WHICH IS A CHEAP AND EASY FIX TO NEVER HAVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
PROBLEM WITH RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH HAS NOW DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE NISSAN WON'T DO THE RIGHT THING AND WE'RE BEYOND THE 80,000 MILES, WE'RE STUCK PAYING FOR A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. INSTEAD OF GETTING AWAY WITH DOING NOTHING EXCEPT FOR EXTENDING THE WARRANTY, NISSAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO NOTIFY ALL AFFECTED PEOPLE REGARDING THE EXACT PROBLEM AND ISSUED A RECALL AND PAY FOR A NEW RADIATOR. THIS OBVIOUSLY IS STILL AN ISSUE FOR ALOT PEOPLE AND PROBABLY MANY, MANY MORE IN THE FUTURE, LONG AFTER THE SO-CALLED PROPOSED SETTLEMENT. TOO THE NHTSA! I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN APRIL 2014 AND THEY FOUND A MILKY SUBSTANCE IN MY RADIATOR AND REPLACED THE RADIATOR CLEANED THE LINES AND REPLACED THE ANTIFREEZE. THEY ALSO DRAINED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, CLEANED THE LINES AND REPLACED THE TRANS FLUID. IN MARCH 2015, I NOTICED THE HESITATION WHEN THE CAR WAS SWITCHING GEARS FROM 45 TO 50 MPH. I TOOK IT TO AAMCO AND THEY ADVISED THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT NISSAN IS BEING SUED ABOUT. I CONTACTED CONSUMER AFFIAIRS WITH NISSAN AND FILED A CASE. I TOOK MY NISSAN TO A NISSAN DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR AT A COST OF $7000. THEY ALSO ADVISED GIVEN THE MILEAGE THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND THEY WERE RIGHT.
