TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER OUT OF PARK. AFTER APPLYING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AND WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS A MECHANIC AND STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGED. A DRIVER IN ANOTHER VEHICLE ALERTED HER OF THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS); HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
FIRST NOTICED THAT I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT FROM PARK. MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE OR WOULD SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN WHILE USING. REALIZED MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON WHILE DRIVING AND PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. ONCE I GOT THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF WOULD NOT LIGHT UP WHEN PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. FIRST NOTICED THIS LAST SUMMER BUT WAS NOT CONSISTENT. STARTED TO ACT UP AGAIN IN THE LAST FEW DAYS. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATING WHEN I DO NOT PRESS THE BRAKES...DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN I DO PRESS THE BRAKES, THIS HAS RESULTED IN ME BEING REAR-ENDED AND HAS LEAD TO SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT SET AND IT IS OFTEN DIFFICULT FOR ME TO PUT MY CAR INTO GEAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE BREAK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OR WITHOUT RESTARTING MY CAR. THE CAR DOESN'T ALWAYS CATCH THE FIRST TIME I TRY TO START IT, THE POWER OUTLETS NOW ARE NOT WORKING IN ADDITION THE STEREO RESETTING ITSELF AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM CONSTANTLY POPPING OFF. *TR
I TOOK MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 TO MY MECHANIC FOR BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEMS AND HE SENT ME TO A DEALER TELLING ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WHAT? IT'S THE CORRECT CAR, CORRECT YEAR AND THE EXACT PROBLEM STATED IN THE RECALL. DEALER CHARGED ME $285 TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NOT BEFORE THEY TRIED TO GET ME TO PURCHASE NEW BRAKES AND TIRES FOR $2400. WHY WAS MY CAR EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALLDOESN'T MAKE SENSE. I PHONED GM AND THEY TWICE CALLED THE DEALER WHO IN THEIR WORDS WOULD NOT COOPERATE. NO EXPLANATION FOR GM OR DEALER MADE ANY SENSE TO ME. HERE IS THE RECALL: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 SUMMARY: GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. CONSEQUENCE: BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY MAY NOT WARN A DRIVER IN A FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING; BRAKE LIGHTS); HOWEVER THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WIRES WERE CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS). VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE BRAKES AND EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE HAVING DIFFICULTIES REMOVING IT FROM PARK. SHORTLY AFTER THESE PROBLEMS STARTED THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING IN REVERSE ALL THIS TIME! WHEN YOUR ON THE GAS THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT! THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE FOR THE 05 G6 MODEL BUT NONE OF THE OTHERS, A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS HOW COMMON THIS IS WITH THE G6 LINE FROM 05-09! WE WOULD HAVE HAD NO CLUE THIS WAS GOING ON IF I HADN'T FOLLOWED MY FIANCE ONE NIGHT AND NOTICED IT OTHER WISE WE WOULD HAVE FOUND OUT WHEN SOME ONE HIT US DUE TO THE POOR BRAKES OR COMPUTER OF THE PONTIAC G6. *TR
ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT DURING DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. A CHIME SIGNAL SOUNDS, AND A MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" APPEARS ON THE INFORMATION CENTER SCREEN. AFTER THIS HAPPENS, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. STEERING IS RESTORED BY TURNING OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING VEHICLE, HOWEVER; THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, INTERMITTENTLY AND WITH NO PREDICTABILITY. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TT
OUR 2006 PONTIAC G6, PURCHASED USED FOR MY SON TO DRIVE TO/FROM SCHOOL, RECENTLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, I SEE THAT THIS FLAW IS QUITE WIDESPREAD AND WELL-KNOWN TO GM AND G6 OWNERS. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # PE07023 DOWNPLAYED THE ISSUE IN DETERMINING THAT A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT DOES NOT EXIST. I MAINTAIN THAT WHEN A G6 DRIVER EXPECTS POWER STEERING DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE AND IT FAILS TO PERFORM AT THE MOMENT IT IS EXPECTED, I CERTAINLY WOULD CONSIDER THAT A SAFETY ISSUE. YES IT IS STILL STEERABLE, BUT NOT IN THE SAME MANNER. THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF ANY GM MAINTENANCE/WARRANTY AT THIS POINT DUE TO ITS MILEAGE, SO I EXPECT THIS WILL BE OUT-OF-POCKET TO REPAIR. THIS IS WHY I WON'T BUY ANOTHER UNSAFE GOVERNMENT MOTORS CAR IN THE FUTURE. MY TAX DOLLARS SUPPORTED A COMPANY THAT CAN'T PRODUCE FUNCTIONAL POWER STEERING. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON THE DISPLAY. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I NOTICE MY SERVICE AIR BAG SENSOR WENT OFF. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 64,601 MILES ON IT. *TR
THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2005-2006 G6 HOWEVER GM INDICATES THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED. AFTER READING BULLETIN 10183A DATED MAY 12, 2012 I CONTACTED GM AND TOOK MY 2006 G6 IN FOR A DIAGNOSIS. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ASSIST MOTOR MODULE BEFORE THEY COULD TELL ME WHAT ELSE WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. MY PONTIAC G6 HAS EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWERING STEERING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THIS VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING WITHIN THE FIRST MILE OF DRIVING. LIKE VEHICLES THAT WERE RECALLED FOR THIS CONDITION I TO MUST TURN MY VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART THE THE IGNITION TO REGAIN STEERING. THE VEHICLE PULLS COMPLETELY TO THE LEFT IF YOU WERE TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND THERE WAS AN ONCOMING VEHICLE THERE WOULD SURELY BE AN ACCIDENT. I KEEP HOPING THAT I DON'T GET REARED ENDED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN OR HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING FRONT END DAMAGE OR PERHAPS INJURY. THERE WERE 15 WARNINGS WITH MY G6. THE COST TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MODULE FIRST QUOTE WAS 749.00. I WAS LATER GIVEN A DISCOUNTED PRICE THAT GM THOUGHT TO BE FAIR AT 560.00. MY VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY A YOUNG DRIVER. THIS VEHICLE AS I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE SO I SHOULD BE CAREFUL. I TRIED TO ASK THE GM DISTRICT SPECIALIST WHO DETERMINES THE AFFECTED VIN NUMBERS AND HE DID NOT HAVE THAT ANSWER. *TR

THE CONTACT STOPPED AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE REGAINED POWER STEERING ABILITIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE LIMIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON OUR RADIO UNIT. I CLEARED IT AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL WE GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. SO I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON. GAS SMELL AT TANK. STARTED NOTICE 2-3 YEARS AGO. DO NOT NOTICE A DRIP. VERY NOTICEABLE AFTER START AND AFTER PARKING @ 40000 MILES. CONFIDENT IT IS THE CRACK IN FUEL PUMP LINE. HESITANT TO START FIRST TRY BUT WILL START SECOND TRY. *TR
MY POWER STEERING LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING ON MY MENU DISPLAY AND I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM BUT GM HAS NOT PUT A RECALL ON THEM. I BOUGHT MY CAR USED LAST YEAR FROM A DEALERSHIP AND IT CURRENTLY ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO LOSE MY POWER STEERING AND COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE OR BE IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
MY PONTIAC G6 HAS DEVELOPED THE CLASSIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN AN ALARM CHIMES THREE TIMES, POWER STEERING IS DISPLAYED ON THE RADIO DISPLAY, THEN A CLICK IS HEARD IN THE DASH, THEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS COMPLETELY, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 AND 2006 PONTIAC G6, AND IN MY OPINION, A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER, OCCUPANTS, AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. GM HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM AND WILL REPAIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES FOR 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. I CONTACTED GM, AND WAS TOLD NO COVERAGE WOULD APPLY DUE TO THE CAR HAVING 125,000 MILES. THEY SAY THE CAR CAN SAFELY BE OPERATED, BUT WITH GREATER EFFORT. MOST PEOPLE TODAY, INCLUDING MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, WILL PANIC AND NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS. GM NEEDS TO REPAIR THESE CARS BEFORE MORE ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS OCCUR. YOUR SAFETY MAY BE AT RISK ! *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE STEERING GEAR RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
KNOCKING LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE MOTOR, MECHANIC FOUND THE FRONT AND BACK MOTOR MOUNT BROKEN ALONG WITH THE BOLTS ALSO BROKEN. REPAIRED COST $474.10. FRONT OF BODY NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY THERE IS A GAP WITHIN THE HOOD AND THE CAR BODY DON'T KNOW WHETHER WAS CAUSED BY THE MOTOR SHIFTING AROUND. *TR
IN APRIL I STARTED TO NOTICE A FAINT SMELL OF GASOLINE EMANATING FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. THINKING NOTHING OF IT I PAID LITTLE MIND. AS THE MONTHS HAVE GONE BY I HAVE NOTICED THE SMELL HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND NOW FUEL DRIPS FROM THE BACK OF THE FUEL TANK IN SMALL QUANTITIES AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME. MY PRIMARY CONCERN AS A CONSUMER IS THAT THIS IS A NON MOVING PART THAT IS NOT IN AN AREA THAT COULD BE EXPOSED TO "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" AS SUCH IT CAN BE DEDUCED THAT THIS INCIDENT IS TIED TO A FAULTY DESIGN AND NOT USER ERROR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW THAT THE COMPANY HAS ALREADY RECOGNIZED IS IN ERROR IN MULTIPLE OTHER VEHICLES AND AS SUCH THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER THE 2006 PONTIAC G6. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE BRAKE SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT AND IT WOULD BE FINE, BUT ONCE I WOULD GET GOING IT WOULD QUIT WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK SINCE 4/11/12. MORE RECENTLY, WHEN SOMEONE SITS IN MY PASSENGER SEAT THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON. I CONTACTED GM AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT AFFECTED AND NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS. MY CAR IS AFFECTED, BECAUSE I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I LIVE IN THE DFW AREA AND THE BREAK LIGHT ISSUE AND THE POWER STEERING ISSUE ARE CAUSING HUGE PROBLEMS FOR ME. IT IS TERRIFYING EACH TIME I HAVE TO GO ANYWHERE. POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS THE MOTOR AND THEY WOULD FIX FOR FREE THEN CALLED BACK 2 DAYS LATER TO SAY THAT IT WASN'T THAT MOTOR, IT WAS THE MODULE. NOW WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THIS EVEN THOUGH THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURE DEFAULT. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING INTO WORK, MY CAR DINGED THREE TIMES, THEN POWER STEERING WAS FLASHED ON MY RADIO AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP! UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR, I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND THE ESTIMATED REPAIRS WOULD COST $900! THIS IS A HORRIBLE CAR, AS THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE FEW PROBLEMS I AM HAVING WITH THIS VEHICLE. EVERY TIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, SOMETHING IN THE STEERING SYSTEM IS MAKING IT CLANK, AND WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL BACK IT WILL CLANK AGAIN. IF I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP AND HAVE MY HANDS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL, WHEN I APPLY THE GAS, THE WHEEL WILL PULL ITSELF ABOUT HALF A TURN TO THE LEFT AND AS I PICK UP SPEED IT WILL RECENTER ITSELF. WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL THERE IS ALSO A GRINDING NOISE. THE STRUTS HAVE GONE BAD, WHICH IS $450 MORE, AND THERE IS A LEAK IN THE FRONT LEFT TIRE SOMEWHERE (NOT THE TIRE ITSELF, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS LEAKING OIL SOMEWHERE). ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO MY G6 STARTED LEAKING WATER AROUND THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR AND I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD BECOME WET WHEN IT RAINED AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE TO THE POINT IT SOAKS THE DRIVERS SEAT AND HEADLINER AND THE ENTIRE CAR HOLDS SO MUCH MOISTURE YOU CAN'T EVEN SEE OUT OF THE WINDOWS. I HAVE A SUNROOF BY THE WAY. THIS PAST WEEKEND I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND SAW A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM SO I PULLED BACK SOME OF THE HEADLINER AND LIKE THEY SAID THE DRAINAGE TUBES WERE NOT EVEN CONNECTED. WE TRIED TO RECONNECT THEM BUT THEY ARE SO SHORT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD SHRUNK DUE TO HEAT BUT APPARENTLY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AND THEY ARE CHARGING $1000 AT THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE IT WHEN THIS IS A MANUFACTURE SCREWUP TO BEGIN WITH. THIS CAR HAS GAVE ME MORE PROBLEMS THAN ANYTHING. 2006 PONTIAC G6. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH FUEL ASSEMBLY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND SHE COULD SMELL GASOLINE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.
