POWER STEERING FAILURE. THIS IS NOT RIGHT WHEN PONTIAC KNOWS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. WILL WE NEED DEATHS OF WILL THIS BE FIXED UNDER RECALL. *LN
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 THAT NOW HAS AROUND 112,000 MILES ON IT. FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS OR SO I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE AT TIMES. THIS IS ONE OF MANY ISSUES I'VE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE. LAST WEEK WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE INFORMATION MENU STARTED FLASHING "POWER STEERING", WHICH INDICATES THAT MORE THAN LIKELY A NEW STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED. I'VE RESEARCHED AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT MILLIONS OF PONTIAC G6 OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND THAT AN EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN HAD BEEN GENERATED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE COURTESY OF GM, BUT ONLY TO DRIVERS WITH 100,000 MILES OR LESS. IN MY CASE, WITH OVER 100,000 MILES ON THE CAR I NOW HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AT LEAST $800 TO FIX THIS DEFECT WITH GM'S AUTOMOBILE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL!!! THE STEERING WHEEL GETS REALLY HARD TO TURN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE YOUR ALREADY DRIVING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO ME AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I WANT MY COMPLAINT TO BE DOCUMENTED AND WOULD ALSO LIKE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS MAJOR DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL. I WILL NEVER BUY A GM VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE. DROVE TO A RESTAURANT , WHEN WE FINISHED EATING. I NOTICED ON THE RADIO DISPLAY IT SAID "POWER STEERING", WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND TURN WITH NO DIFFICULTY, WHEN WE ENTERED THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT, FELT THAT DRIVING THE CAR WAS UNSAFE AND PULLED TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CALLED FOR A TOW, BUT WHEN THE TOW ARRIVED, I WAS GOING TO DRIVE THE CAR ONTO THE TRAILER AND THE STEERING HAD RETURNED, SO I FINISHED THE DRIVE HOME. WHEN YOU START THE CAR SOMETIMES THE STEERING IS WORKING OTHER TIMES IT IS NOT. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A TURN, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FOR FIVE TO TEN SECONDS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING LIMITED STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AFTER PERFORMING A DIAGNOSTIC. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A CALL BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000.

POWER STEERING FAILURE, RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF, VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER, CAUSES CAR TO VEER OUT OF CONTROL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK. THE CONTACT HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO UNLOCK THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING COULD LOCK WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE A CRASH. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ELECTRICAL STEERING SWITCH IS GOING BAD, MAKING CAR UNABLE TO STEER. *TR
SAME COMPLAINT AS OTHERS WITH PONTIAC G6 AND BRAKE LIGHTS. WHILE I AM DRIVING OR IN PARK MY BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON. WHILE BRAKING, MY BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENT RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM, BUT OTHER DRIVERS HAVE STOPPED TO TELL ME THIS IS OCCURRING. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF CLOSE CALLS WHILE DRIVING IN WORK TIME TRAFFIC WHERE VEHICLES TEND TO BE ALMOST BUMPER TO BUMPER AND THE OTHER DRIVERS DO NOT KNOW THAT I AM BRAKING BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS SPORADICALLY. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT PONTIAC AND NEITHER ACKNOWLEDGE THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD WORK SPORADICALLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEREFORE THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT. *TR
POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING WHILE DRIVING WITH NO WARNING AND DOES NOT WORK AGAIN UNTIL I STOP THE CAR, TURN OFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE. *TR
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN DECEMBER.. I ALMOST HAD A WRECK. I WENT TO AUTO ZONE AND PURCHASED POWER STEERING FLUID AND I WAS ABLE TO ADD SOME TO THE SYSTEM. THREE DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED, LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET WHERE I COULD PULL OVER. I CAME HOME AND CALLED PONTIAC IN SAN DIEGO, CA. AND WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER TO COMPLAIN TO THE PONTIAC HEADQUARTERS. I CONTACTED THE HEADQUARTERS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. IN LAST 5 WEEKS THE POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES AND I ALMOST WRECKED TWICE. I LIVE PART TIME IN THE USA AND PART TIME IN MEXICO. THE LAST TIME I CONTACTED PONTIAC THEY SAID WHEN I RETURNED THE USA TO CONTACT THEM. ALL I AM GETTING IS A RUN AROUND WITH NO ANSWERS. I TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS DANGEROUS..THEIR EMAILS TO ME ARE VERY NEGATIVE AND I AM TOTALLY UNHAPPY WITH THEIR RESPONSE. *TR
POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION WITH ONBOARD COMPUTER NOTIFICATION. *TR
I WAS RECENTLY INFORMED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE LIGHT WENT OFF WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR. THAT PROBLEM ALSO AFFECTS THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. OR THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AFTER A WHILE WITHOUT ME APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAD THE BRAKE SWITCH REPLACED TWICE BUT THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I SURGED THE INTERNET I FOUND NUMEROUS G6 OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED GM TO QUESTION THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. I WOULD NEED TO GO TO THE DEALER AND HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT FROM GM TO INCLUDE ONLY A HANDFUL OF CARS IN THE RECALL WHEN OBVIOUSLY OTHER CARS SAME YEAR SAME MODEL HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF POSTINGS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES ADAY. IT HAS GONE OUT ON ME WHILE DRIVING AS FAST AS 40MPH. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WHEN IT GOES OUT I HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF BEFORE THE POWER STEERING WILL START WORKING AGAIN. ONCE IT COMES BACK ON THE STEERING DOES NOT FEEL RIGHT. POWER STEERING LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY.
DURING THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, MY STEERING IN MY G6 HAS BEEN GETTING TIGHT. ON WEDNESDAY DEC. 15, 2010 WHILE IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT COMPLETE FROZE UP. I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED, THE LIGHTS DIMMED ON THE CAR AS THOUGHT A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH, I APPROACHED A CURVE AND PUT ON BRAKES SLIGHTLY. WHILE ENTERING THE CURVE THE POWER STEERING FROZE, AND I COULD NOT TURN MOMENTARILY. THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON AND I OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE LOSS OF STEERING. I SPUN OUT OF CONTROL, HITTING AN EMBANKMENT WITH MY REAR WHEEL. THE CAR FLIPPED AND LANDED ON ITS WHEELS. I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A PARTIALLY COLLAPSED LUNG, BRUISED RIBS, BRUISED STERNUM, BACK INJURY , AND NECK INJURIES. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILS AND CAUSES LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. LOCAL DEALERSHIP RESPONDED TO WARRANTY UPGRADE AND HAD ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE CAR , BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH IN A CURVE.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT IN CAR. *TR
I'M A OWNER OF A 06 G6 IN MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING SO MANY FRONT END PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN OUT OF SO MUCH MONEY. RECENTLY WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK THE POWER STEERING FAIL. IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO TURN BUT I PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED MY CAR. SEVERAL TIME IN ONE DAY I HAD TO RESTART IT. I RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT A MONTH AGO WITH "SPECIAL COVERAGE" NOT A RECALL. MY CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE SO IM NOT ABLE TO GET IT FIX. IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING GMC SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO BECAUSE I JUST CANNOT AFFORD TO GET THIS FIX. GM IS AT FAULT IM PRAYING FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN FOR US(G6 OWNERS) BEFORE SOMETHING BAD TRANSPIRE FROM THIS. I DON'T NOT WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. *TR
I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR MODEL MY CAR IS FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I'M HAVING (RECALL #80317 SUMMARY: GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. CONSEQUENCE: BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY MAY NOT WARN A DRIVER IN A FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.) AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FIXED FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS NOW AND NO ONE WILL HELP ME. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORM ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND SEND ME ON MY MERRY WAY WITH NO HELP OR OTHER SOLUTIONS BUT I'M HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AND I'M TO THE POINT WHERE I'M SCARED TO EVEN DRIVE THE THING AND THIS IS MY ONLY WAY OF TRANSPORTATION. MINE IS THE 2006 2 DOOR GT I'M NOT SURE WHICH MODELS WERE INVOLVED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL BUT THIS ONE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AS WELL. EVERY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED HAS BEEN A GM AND I'VE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS ONE AND IT HAS REALLY PUT A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH. IF I COULD GET RID OF IT RIGHT NOW I WOULD. *TR
MY CURRENT PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 SOUNDS THE SAME AS THE RECALL FOR THE 2009 PONTIAC G6. TODAY (12-8-10) I HAD TO BRING IN MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER AFTER PUTTING MY CAR IN PARK, WHICH THEN PROCEEDED TO ROLL. THE WIRING SYSTEM DID NOT SEEM TO RECOGNIZE PARK OR DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I LATER TRIED TO TURN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. 4 MONTHS AGO I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE CAR DIDN'T RECOGNIZE IT AS BEING IN PARK. THREE OTHER TIMES I HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE/FOOT PEDDLES. I WOULD HAVE TO BREAK TO ACCELERATE AND DRIVE TO SLOW DOWN OR IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL UNTIL IT REACHED 30MPH. IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DRIVE IN TRACTION CONTROL AND READ DECREASED ENGINE POWER ON THE PANEL. IN ADDITION, I HAVE RECENTLY HAD A FOUNTAIN OF WATER POURING INTO MY CAR SURROUNDING THE SUNROOF ON EITHER SIDE OF PANELS BTWN THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS, RESULTING IN SEVERE INTERIOR DAMAGE AND SUBSEQUENT MOLD SPORES GROWING. INSTEAD OF THE FILTER SURROUNDING THE SUNROOF FILTERING WATER OUT, IT IS FILTERING WATER IN. *TR
BRAKE LAMPS WON'T OPERATE PROPERLY BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK AND ILLUMINATE BAKE LIGHTS. *TR
TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LAMPS AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE SPOILER WERE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY . UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND WHEN THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES THE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC , VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TO BE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING AS I WAS TURNING. THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED A "STEERING WHEEL" MESSAGE. LUCKILY IT WAS AT A LOW ENOUGH SPEED AND WITH NO OTHER CARS BEHIND OR IN FRONT OF ME THAT I COULD STOP SAFELY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED.

THE CONTACT PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH THE COST OF PARTS BUT THE CONTACT WOULD BE LIABLE FOR LABOR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,123 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,150.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LAMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO SHUT OFF, IN ADDITION THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAME INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE DEALER WAS NOT ADVISED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A WALL. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR. ADDITIONALLY, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIE ROD, BALL JOINT, AND THE HUB WORE OUT PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS, THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN SHAKING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOP. I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT UNTIL I STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AND COULD NOT MOVE LEFT OR RIGHT. THE INFORMATION CENTER ON THE RADIO DISPLAYED A POWER STEERING WARNING. I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD UNTIL MINUTES LATER I TURNED ON THE CAR AGAIN AND REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL.
ON THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, KNOWN AS BLACK FRIDAY MY GRANDDAUGHTER AN I GOT INTO MY 2006 PONTIAC G6, AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER MY VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING HAD LOCKED UP. I WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. GM SENT ME A NOTICE IN THE MAIL 4 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. THE LETTER STATED THAT IF I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM DO NOT TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, FOUR MONTHS LATER I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 5 DAYS AND SAID THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING AND THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AND 10 MINUTES LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE CAR WENT BACK TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE FOUND OVER 100 CONSUMERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THROUGHOUT THE US. GM KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS, BUT TOOK NO ACTION TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THIS DEFECT. I FEEL THAT IT IS TIME THAT NHTSA DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE, CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE ON ITS OWN, AND CAN CREATE AN UNCONTROLLABLE SITUATION WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE CONTROL WITHIN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC, AND IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS DAILY, AND GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ON OTHER CARS SUCH AS THE PONTIAC G5 OF WHICH IS HAS ISSUED A RECALL. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER, MY VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY RECALL. TO CORRECT THE DEFECT, THE VEHICLE MUST HAVE THE ELECTRIC MOTOR ON THE POWER STEERING REPLACED WHICH INVOLVES REMOVING THE STEERING COLUMN AND TOTAL APPROXIMATELY $400 IN LABOR PLUS THE $300 PART. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, AS I HAVE SEEN ON A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. GM APPEARS TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT IS WAITING TO BE FORCED TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE RADIO SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE RADIO DEFECT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE CONTACT COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN ON THE HIGHWAY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,980.

ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT. I NOTICED SLIGHT PROBLEMS WITH TURNING IN THE PAST BUT NOW THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE PROBLEM ARISES. I HAVE LITERALLY FOUND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN THE 2005 AND 2006 MODEL G6S. WHY DOESN'T GM DO SOMETHING AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR DRIVERS. I GUESS THEY ARE GOING TO SIT BACK AND NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THEY HAVE A FEW FATALITIES. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE COST OF THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR JOB WHEN ITS' APPARENTLY A DEFECT IN THE G6 MODELS WITH ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHTS COMES ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED BUT EVERY TIME I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. I HAVE A 2006 PONITAC G6 4 DOOR SEDAN. THE CAR HAS 45,500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AT 44,024 MILES I HAD TO HAVE A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. NOW AT 45,500 MILES I DISCOVER THAT SINCE THE FULL ALIGNMENT BOTH OF THE SWAY BAR LINKS HAVE GONE BAD. THE CAR WAS MAKING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND THE CAR SWAYS FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE DRIVING THROUGH CORNERS OR IN A STRONG SIDE WIND. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 32,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND AT 34,000 MILES WHILE ON VACATION I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS ALONG WITH THE FRONT BRAKES WITH A TOTAL BILL BY THE CHEVY DEALER OVER $600.00. I ALSO HAVE ONE OF THE CARS THAT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING GETTING HARD TO TURN AND THEN GOES BACK TO NORMAL. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL PONTIAC DEALER ABOUT MY CONCERNS AND TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT MY PROBLEMS WERE THE RESULTS OF THE BAD ROADS WERE I LIVE. IT SEEMS STRANGE TO ME THAT MY 1993 CORVETTE WITH 110,000 MILES ON THE SAME ROADS AS MY PONTIAC DOES NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE SUSPENSION. *TR
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
BOUGHT A PONTIAC WITH ONLY 15 MILES ON IT, SHORTLY AFTER THAT I BEGAN TO HEAR A "POPPING" NOISE IN MY STEERING WHEEL. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, DEALER RETURNED THE VEHICLE. DEALER DID NOT ADVISE ME WHAT THEY HAD DONE WITH THE VEHICLE, ONLY TOLD ME THAT IT HAD BEEN FIXED. I DID NOT HEAR THE "POPPING" NOISE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN IT BEGAN TO START MAKING THE NOISE AGAIN, I ONCE AGAIN RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AT THIS TIME THEY ADVISED ME THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE RACKET PINION. I LEFT DEALERSHIP AND IT WORKED FINE FOR A SHORT TIME AND IT BEGAN TO MAKE THE NOISE AGAIN. I RETURNED THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AT THAT TIME THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS THE RACKET PINION AGAIN AND THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACED THIS PART 3 TIME, AND IT WAS NOT FIXABLE. I WAS UNAWARE, THEY HAD CHANGED IT THE FIRST TIME. AFTER ALL THIS TIME, I HAVE ACTUALLY LOCATED A MECHANIC WHO EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT IS NOT JUST THE RACKET PINION, BUT ALSO THE BRACKET AND JOINT. NOW TOTALLY UP TO APPROXIMATELY $1600.00 OF PARTS AND LABOR TO FIX PROPERLY. *TR
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 SEDAN AND I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM FOR THIS CAR. I MYSELF HAVE EXPERIENCE BRAKE SQUEAKING AFTER ALL NEW BRAKES WERE REPLACED ON THE CAR NO REASON FOR THIS. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKES LIGHTS FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS LACK OF OXYGEN IN THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
2006 PONTIAC G6 BASE 4 CYL HAD STIFF STEERING AND EVENTUALLY LOCKED UP WHILE TURNING GOING 35MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER. RADIO COMPUTER INFORMED ME THAT THE POWER STEREING HAD FAILED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING MOTOR. 3 MONTHS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM ONLY WORSE. STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP WHILE GOING 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY.
