I HAVE AN 06 PONTIAC G6 AND A WHILE BACK I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM OUT OF TOWN WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT TO THE GAS STATION BUT IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING, SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE. THE STEERING ISN'T JUST HARD TO TURN LIKE AN OLD TRUCK, IT CONSTANTLY TRIES TO SPRING BACK TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION SO YOU FIGHT IT THE ENTIRE TIME. WE PARKED IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND I TURNED IT ON AN TOOK IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT WAS FINE UNTIL A WEEK AGO WHEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN AND NOW I CANT GET IT TO WORK AT ALL. I WILL BE DAMNED IF I AM PAYING TO HAVE IT FIXED WHEN IT IS GM'S PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT IS COMPLETE BS THAT ALL THE OTHER CARS GOT RECALLED BUT THE G6 DID NOT. "GOVERNMENT MOTORS" BETTER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS OR RISK LOSING EVEN MORE CUSTOMERS. *TR
BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION THAT OCCURS CONSTANTLY. BRAKE ILLUMINATES WHEN DRIVING AND TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. VEHICLE HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN RECALL ID# 28422 BUT ACCORDING TO PONTIAC MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6, CURRENTLY WITH 76,400 MILES AT 21K MY BRAKES WERE ALREADY IN THE YELLOW. AT 38K, I REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AND HAD THE CAR ALIGNED. AT 45K, I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AGAIN. AT 50K, I HAD TO RESURFACE THE ROTORS. AT 54K, I HAD TO INSTALL NEW ROTORS AND NEW FRONT BRAKES... AGAIN. I PURCHASED HIGH PERFORMANCE, CROSS-DRILLED ROTORS, AND THE BRAKES THAT WERE RECOMMENDED TO GO ALONG WITH THEM, AND HAD THEM INSTALLED AT A REPUTABLE BRAKE COMPANY. AT A LITTLE OVER 54K, I HAD TO DO ANOTHER ALIGNMENT. AT 64K, ANOTHER ALIGNMENT WAS RECOMMENDED AND PERFORMED. AT 71K, BRAKES ARE IN THE YELLOW AGAIN. AND NOW, TODAY, AT 76K, HAD TO RESURFACE THE NEW ROTORS, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY FRONT BRAKES ARE, ONCE AGAIN, NEARING THE RED. AND I'M PRETTY SURE, IF I HAD THE ENERGY, MONEY AND TIME TO CHECK THE ALIGNMENT AGAIN, IT WOULD NEED TO BE RE-ALIGNED AGAIN. PONTIAC G6 HAS SOME SORT OF PROBLEM THAT CAUSES A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF BRAKE AND ROTOR WEAR, AND ALIGNMENT ISSUES. PERIOD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY HARD AND STIFF. THE CONTACT DECREASED SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HIS DESTINATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. NEITHER THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,615 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,627.
6/10: DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND LOST POWER STEERING. IN 9/10, RECEIVED LETTER FROM GM INDICATING ISSUE SO BROUGHT VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALER FOR STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT. IN 10/10, DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, LOST ENGINE POWER AND POWER STEERING WITH INDICATOR ABOVE RADIO SAYING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". I HAD TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, TURN CAR OFF, THEN TURN BACK ON AGAIN, TO REGAIN POWER. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES BETWEEN 10/10 AND EARLY 12/10 AT WHICH TIME I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE SINCE SOLD THE VEHICLE TO MY NEPHEW WHO HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. VERY DANGEROUS. NO RHYME OR REASON TO OCCURRENCES AS WELL AS WHETHER THE CAR WOULD REGAIN ENGINE POWER OR NOT. I DID HAVE A HEAVY KEY CHAIN AT THAT TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING WAS INOPERABLE EACH OCCASION THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE, FOLLOWED BY A WARNING CHIME. THE DEALER ADVISED HAVING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE RESULTS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 63,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GREAT EFFORT WAS REQUIRED TO STEER THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR AND THE U-JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V153000 (STEERING) AND 14E044000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS (THANKFULLY) HOWEVER; WITHIN THE PAST 4 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY STEERING MODULE AND JUST LAST WEEK MY BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE AND ARE VERY NECESSARY TO FIX RIGHT AWAY. I HAVE A HARD TIME TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AT TIMES AND WHEN I SEEM TO TURN IT MAKES AN ODD NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS FIXED BUT AT TIMES I STILL FEEL SOMETHING IS WRONG AND IT SCARES ME BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANYTHING BAD TO HAPPEN. I HAVE TALKED TO THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. THIS TO ME ISN'T RIGHT AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH MY STEERING SEEMING TO GO BAD OFTEN. *TR
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING UNIT. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GOES OUT WITH NO WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES AND SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY IN WARMER TEMPERATURES. I WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT AN INTERSECTION. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME IT COULD BE IN EXCESS OF $1000 TO REPAIR. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF PONTIAC, ALL OF WHICH OCCUR BETWEEN 55,000 AND 60,000 MILES. MY CAR HAS 57,000 MILES ON IT. STILL GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS DEFECT BY ISSUING A RECALL. ONE WOULD THINK WITH $52 MILLION DOLLARS OF AMERICANS TAX DOLLARS IN THEIR POCKETS THAT THEY COULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THIS ISN'T ABOUT BAILOUTS THOUGH. THIS IS ABOUT PUTTING FAMILIES, MOTHERS AND CHILDRENS LIVES IN DANGER. I AM SENDING THIS IN HOPES OF THIS AGENCY BEING ABLE TO DO SOMETHING WITH GM TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND FORCE THEM TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION BEFORE MORE PEOPLE GET HURT OR KILLED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO, SHE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN-FRONT OF HER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,005 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS WENT OUT AND PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER SINCE BEFORE JUNE 2010.....HAS STILL NOT ARRIVED...THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS PART AND I FEEL IT SHOULD BE ON RECALL...THE WHOLE [XXX] CAR. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY CAR AND I LOST CONTROL TRYING TO TURN INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE LIGHT CAME ON PRIOR TO MY TURNING AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAD EVER HAPPENED. I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS OFF A BIT THE WEEK PRIOR, HOWEVER, I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED THAT WEEK AND THEY SAID THAT THE CAR MAY PULL TO THE LEFT AFTER. WHEN TRYING TO CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE CAR, I FOUND THERE ISN'T A SPOT FOR THIS AND THEY ARE ELECTRIC. THANKFULLY I DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. POWER STEERING JUST CUTS OUT AND MAKES THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHICH THEY INFORMED THAT THE OWNER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SERVICE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS). THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. 2006 PONTIAC G6, CAR STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE WHEN DRIVING AND BRAKING AT AROUND 60,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE ALSO MADE A CLUNK NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL TURNED AT LOW SPEEDS, WENT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE OUTER TIE RODS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO SHAKE AND THUMP. NOW THE MECHANIC IS TELLING ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARM, BUSHINGS ETC. MY WHOLE FRONT SUSPENSION IS HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS. MY CAR VEERED OFF TO THE NEXT LANE ON ITS OWN. LOTS OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. ITS IN THE SHOP NOW, ALSO NEEDING THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED. PLEASE RECALL THIS. MY FAMILY WAS LUCKY NOT TO HAVE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE OR BE HIT. THANKS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACTS OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 35 MPH , THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED, AND HE LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT HAD A DIFFICULT TIME STEERING THE VEHICLE, BUT HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID.THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED, AND THERE HAD BEEN NO REPAIRS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURE HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8061.
MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 IS EXPERIENCING POWER STEERING PROBLEMS IN WHICH I NOW KNOW IS ELECTRICAL AND VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR. AFTER HEARING HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST I CAME HOME AND LOOKED TO SEE IF GM HAD ANY RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE, BUT TO COME AND FIND OUT THEY DON'T. A LOT OF COMPLAINTS THOUGH. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL ISSUE OR THE CONSUMERS GIVEN SOME HELP IN GETTING WHAT SEEMS TO BE A BIG ISSUE CORRECTED. *TR

BUT THEN I LOOK ONLINE AND SEE THAT THE FOLLOWING CARS WERE ALSO RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE: - 2005 - 2010 CHEVROLET COBALTS - 2007 - 2010 PONTIAC G5S - 2005 - 2006 PONTIAC PURSUITS - 2006 - 2006 PONTIAC G4S IT'S REALLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT GM USED A DIFFERENT TYPE OF PART IN MY CAR. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT OPERATE WHEN ENGAGED AND THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 41,609.

WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND AFTER SHE TURNED IT OFF AND THEN ON, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE IN HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND BECAME MORE FREQUENT WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 86,000.
2006 PONTIAC G6 74,000 MILES ELECTRIC STEERING MAJOR ISSUE LAST SATURDAY, JUNE 5, 2010, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND AS I WAS NEARING MY RESIDENCE, THE STEERING BECAME HARDER TO CONTROL. LUCKILY, THE MAJOR ISSUE DIDN'T OCCUR UNTIL I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY, IN WHICH THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY NON-STEERABLE. I AM BY NO MEANS A WEAK PERSON, SO THIS LACK OF STEERING IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. ON TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 2010. AT ABOUT NOON, I WAS HEADING TO LUNCH AND COMING FROM A STOPLIGHT, I HAD NO STEERING WHAT-SO-EVER, I WAS REQUIRED TO RESTART THE CAR MID-TURN IN ORDER TO NOT RUN OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT GM APPARENTLY DOESN'T CARE TO RESOLVE. IT IS OBVIOUS GENERAL MOTORS CARES NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THEIR PRODUCT. I AM THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED, SO MUCH SO THAT I PURCHASED A USED 2005 MUSTANG GT AS A REPLACEMENT CAR. I NEED TO HAVE THE PONTIAC G6 FIXED, BECAUSE I AM SELLING THE CAR, I DO NOT WISH TO BE KILLED BY MY OWN CAR! I WAS NOT INJURED OR KILLED BUT I AM VERY VERY TEMPTED TO CLICK THE "WERE THERE ANY DEATHS OR INJURIES?" CHECKBOX BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW THAT GM DOESN'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS... THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,500.
MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IN MY PONTIAC G6 WENT OUT. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND I EXPERIENCE NECK AND ARM PAIN FOR WEEKS AFTER FOR HAVING TO DRIVE AROUND WITHOUT IT. I HAD TO GET THE CAR FIXED WHICH REQUIRED IT TO BE IN THE SHOP FOR A WEEK. THEY HAD TO REPLACE A CIRCUIT AND REPROGRAM THE CAR. I PAID 900 DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT IS IT A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG PONTIAC CARS INCLUDING G6'S WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE AND YET ITS THE ONLY PONTIAC CAR TO NOT HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR IT YET. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6. FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS IT HAS BEEN SMELLING LIKE GAS. I CANNOT FIND ANY LEAKING UNDER THE HOOD OR THE CAR. THE ODOR IS CONTINUOUSLY GETTING STRONGER AND THE CAR IS HESITATING TO START. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND SOMEONE IS BOUND TO GET HURT (VAPORS/FIRE). *TR

I HAVE COME CLOSE TO HAVING THREE DIFFERENT ACCIDENTS IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 DUE TO THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IN DEC. OF 2007 AND JULY OF 2009 GM REPLACED SOME STEERING GEAR IN 2007 AND MY COLUMN SHAFT. NOW LESS THAN 12000 MILES IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. I PURCHASED A USED 2006 PONTIAC G6 IN APRIL OF 2009 WITH 60,000 ODD MILES ON IT. IN AUGUST OF 09 I WENT TO START IT ONE MORNING AND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE POWER STEERING. ONLY TO FIND OUT THE CAR HAS ELECTRONIC STEERING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO SAY THAT I NEEDED TO BRING IT IN WHILE IT WAS DISPLAYING THE MESSAGE. IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE IT DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. THE MECHANIC KEEPS INSISTING THAT THE CAR WAS MADE TO DROP POWER STEERING IF I TURN THE WHEEL TOO MUCH TO THE RIGHT. THE PROBLEM IS, THE POWER STEERING WILL DROP FOR ANY REASON. THIS ORIGINALLY OCCURRED 1 TIME , WE TOOK THE VEH TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WOULD SHUT DOWN AFTER REACHING A CERTAIN TEMP SO THEY REPLACED IT, IT WAS FINE ABOUT 1 MONTH BEFORE BEGINNING TO DO THE SAME THING THIS TIME ON A VERY FREQUENTLY ALMOST TO THE POINT IT DOES IT NOW EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUES MADE TO PONTIAC/GM BY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND GM SEEMS TO BE IGNORING THE PROBLEM.
