THE POWER-STEERING MECHANISM IS ELECTRICAL AND TAKES NO FLUID. THE STEERING CONSTANTLY LOCKS UP MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER IN ANY DIRECTION. I'VE READ THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE/ CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. *TR
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN, I AM AN OWNER OF A 2006 PONTIAC G6. I LOVE MY CAR, HOWEVER I AM EXPERIENCING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH 'SHAKING' OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND CLUNKING NOISE. I HAVE BEEN TO A FEW MECHANICS AND ALWAYS DO WHAT IS RECOMMENDED. EXAMPLES ARE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, ROTORS, TIRE CHANGE, NEW BRAKES' HOWEVER THE SHAKING OR NOISE NEVER GOES AWAY.. I HAVE ALSO HAD MY INTERMEDIATE SHAFT FIXED BY THE DEALER. THE NOISE AND SHAKING IMPROVE WHEN WORK IS DONE BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT COMES BACK! I HAVE NOTICED MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR AS MINE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN CAR IS IN PARK, WITHOUT BRAKE BEING DEPRESSED. WHEN BRAKE IS ACTUALLY BEING DEPRESSED, BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATED. CRUISE CONTROL WORKS INTERMITTENTLY, SOMETIMES GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING AFTER BEING SET. DIFFICULT TO SWITCH GEARS OUT OF PARK AT TIMES. HAVE TAKEN IT TO MECHANIC TWICE. FIRST TIME HAD A SENSOR REPLACED. SECOND TIME HAD THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED. PROBLEMS STILL NOT RESOLVED. AFTER SEEING A PREVIOUS RECALL IN 2009 FOR THIS SAME ISSUE I CHECKED INTO IT AND MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. DRIVING WITH CHILDREN IN MY CAR, IT IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR ME, ESPECIALLY WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY TIMES WHEN PEOPLE ALMOST REAR END US BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I HOPE THAT ANOTHER RECALL IS ISSUED SOON TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR FREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,800.
WHEN I TURN LEFT I HEAR A CLUNKING NOISE. MY POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING WHILE I AM DRIVING IF I STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT COMES BACK. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE IN COLD WEATHER. *TR
THERE IS A CLUNKING IN THE FRONT END WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I BROUGHT TO THE DEALER ON 10/24/08 AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE STEERING RACK BE REPLACED FOR AN ESTIMATED $503.15. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE CAR IS OVER BY 3,000 MILES. MY DAUGHTER HAS THE SAME 2006 G-6 THAT ALSO HAS THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE. HER VEHICLE IS GOING TO THE SHOP ON 11/07/08 TO SEE WHAT THEY THINK IT IS. MY WIFE HAS A 2008 G-6 THAT ALSO HAS THE SAME CLUNKING NOISE AND IT IS IN THE SHOP TODAY ( 11/03/08 ) . WERE STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM ON THEIR RECOMMENDATION. EVEN THOUGH THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ON HER CAR, I FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED ON MY CAR. IT'S NOT TOO OFTEN A PERSON BUYS THREE OF THE SAME CARS, AND ALL THREE OF THEM HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
LOST POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G-6 RESULTING IN LACK OF ABILITY TO RESPOND TO TRAFFIC SITUATIONS-BROUGHT TO GARAGE WHO COULDN'T SEEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM-STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN AND AM UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE GIVEN THE SAFETY CONCERNS. *TR
I JUST WANTED TO NOTE THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE SAME ISSUES WITH MY 2006 G6 GTP. I HAVE HAD MY STEERING COMPONENTS REPLACED AT LEAST 2-3 TIMES IN THE 2 YEARS I'VE OWNED MY CAR. I HAVE 67K MILES AND PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 75K, SO MY REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COVERED, BUT SEEING THESE COMPLAINTS IS DISTURBING TO ME. LIKE MANY OTHERS HERE, I TRAVEL TO/FROM WORK IN MY CAR EACH DAY AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. I HOPE GM WILL RESOLVE ANY DEFECTIVE ISSUES BEFORE SOMEONE MUST SUFFER. MY STEERING WAS JUST REPLACED 2 MONTHS AGO AND I'M ALREADY HEARING CLICKING UNDER MY FRONT END AGAIN, SO AM PLANNING TO TAKE MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SOON. PLEASE ALERT ALL OWNERS IF GM DOES DECIDE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR THESE ISSUES. *TR
POWER STEERING STOP WORKING, HAD IT REPLACE BY A GMC DEALER. AFTER A FEW MONTHS IT WOULD GO OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WOULD WORK BY RESETTING IT. IN FEB. OF 2009 STARTED FAILING AGAIN FOR HOURS AT A TIME SOMETIMES A DAY OR TWO. IT WAS REPLACE AFTER AN ACCIDENT TO CAR. IT CONTINUED TO GO IN AND OUT AT CERTAIN PERIODS OF TIME. NOW MARCH OF 2012 IT IS COMPLETELY OUT. ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS CHANGE THE WHOLE UNIT OUT. I FEEL TO BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE OR THE DEALERS ARE OUT TO CASH IN. CAN SOMEBODY CONTACT ME ABOUT THIS MATTER. I THINK THE ONLY REASON THIS HASN'T BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BECAUSE ENOUGH LIVES WERE NOT LOST. *TR
COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING WHILE DRIVING. IF DRIVING FASTER COULD HAVE CAUSED ACCIDENT. *TR
THE POWERSTEERING ON MY PONTIAC G6 HAS FAILED- I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THEN A YEAR AND NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY ABOUT 1000.00 TO FIX IT. THE STEERING IS SO TIGHT SOMETIMES IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH ONE DAY USING ALL THE STRENGTH I HAD IN ORDER TO AVOID A CAR. NOW THE POWERSTEERING LOCKS UP AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BEING GM CERTIFIED DOESN'T COVER ANY OF IT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE- PONTIAC NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THIS HUGE FAILURE. I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOMEONE DIE BECAUSE PONTIAC WAS TOO CHEAP TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
I PURCHASED THE 06 IN MAY 2006. IN LESS THAN 6MTHS TIME BOTH KEY FOBS AND THE TRUNK RELEASE IN THE CAR STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD THE PROBLEMS FIXED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. ALSO, THE CAR IS HARD TO CRANK AT TIMES. IT HAPPENED OFTEN IN THE PAST, BUT EVENTUALLY STOPPED. THEN ON YESTERDAY I HAD TO 3 TIMES TO START MY CAR BEFORE IT CRANKED. THEN TODAY, I HAD TO TRY 2X BEFORE IT CRANKED. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE. I'M GLAD TO KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS. GM SHOULD TAKE NOTE AND ACCOMMODATE EVERYONE WHO HAS PURCHASED THEIR PRODUCT. I'M NOT SURE OF THE DATES I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE STARTING THE VEHICLE, BUT IT HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I'VE HAD THIS CAR. ALSO, I'VE HAD TO HAVE MY BRAKES REPLACED AND IT HASN'T BEEN CLOSE TO A YEAR AND THEY ARE MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE ALREADY. *TR
CLUNK IN FRONT END AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN TURNING. HAD REPAIRED BUT NOISE IS BACK. MANY OTHER G6 OWNERS WITH SAME COMPLAINT. *TR
STEERING HAS FAILED ON MY 06 PONTIAC G6, THE GEAR & CORE RETURN WAS REPLACED ONE YEAR AGO AT 23,000 AND NOW AT 51,700 MILES IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN! THE STEERING LOCKED AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS MORE CONCERNED WHO WAS GOING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR THEN MY SAFETY. THE STEERING LOCKED AND CAUSED A MINOR ACCIDENT. IN 30 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A STEERING GEAR OR CORE RETURN, MUCH LESS TWO IN ONE YEAR. *TR UPDATE (10/2/08): WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP I HAD NO CONTROL AND HIT A CART. I HAVE A $1000 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE AND HAD MENTIONED THAT I AM STRUGGLING A LITTLE AND HAVE NOT GOT ESTIMATES AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED AND NO ACCIDENT REPORT WAS MADE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIR ON THE STEERING COLUM, HE WOULD NOT LOOK AT IT UNTIL I AGREED TO SIGN THE PAPERWORK STATING THAT I WOULD PAY THE 100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. SO, I HAD TO DRIVE AWAY AND I AM STILL DRIVING THE CAR IN THIS DEFECTIVE STATE.
CAR SHAKES REALLY BAD WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, AND A CLUNK NOISE IS HEAR WHEN TURNING. *TR
POWER STEERING ON 2006 PONTIAC G6 DOEST WORK THE REPAIR WAS TOO COSTLY AND I AM 81 YEARS OLD AND CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX IT AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL THERE ARE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS AND THIS DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON CONSTANTLY AND MY CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY REPLACE A BRAKE SWITCH. TWO DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM WAS BACK. I WAS TOLD THE SWITCH THAT WAS INSTALLED WAS BAD AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH WITH ANOTHER SWITCH. THE NEXT MORNING THE PROBLEM WAS BACK AND THE CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE DEALER AGAIN. THIS IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVING WITH BRAKE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY ON. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND PAGE AFTER PAGE OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, MANY OF WHICH HAVE NOT YET HAD THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. GM HAS NOT YET ISSUED ANY KIND OF RECALL. *TR
THERE ARE NO REAR-DOOR SECURITY LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE. MY CHILD OPENED THE DOOR WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING AT A HIGH SPEED ON A HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, SHE WAS NOT INJURED BUT COULD HAVE BEEN. I WENT TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE CAR COMES EQUIPPED WITH REAR-DOOR SECURITY LOCKS, MINE DOES NOT HAVE THEM. THE DEALER STATES THAT THE 2006 MODEL TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED THAT FEATURE AND THEN STARTED EQUIPPING THE CAR WITH THE FEATURE AGAIN IN 2007. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE. I WOULD JUST LIKE THE LOCKS INSTALLED ON MY CAR AT NO CHARGE TO ME. *TR
JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TO PICK MY FIANCE UP FROM COLLEGE AND WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, MY HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEM LIGHT POPPED UP ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT AND ALMOST RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE OF HOW STIFF AND POOR THE STEERING WAS.. I MEAN IT WAS HARD AS A ROCK TO TURN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS AND PROCEEDING TO TURN LEFT, THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. THE ENGINE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY ON TEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
STEERING FAILURE IN PONTIAC G6, 2006. STEERING CAN LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING, VERY DIFFICULTTO CONTROL IF THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. ALSO, AT OTHER TIMES STEERING IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN LEFT, VERY EASY TO TURN RIGHT. CAN ACT UP AT ANY TIME. *TR UPDATE (10/06/08): THE POWER STEERING DID GO OUT, AS I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35-40 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD...SEVERAL TIMES, UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE DISPLAY SHOWED "POWER STEERING". VERY HARD TO TURN. SHUT VEHICLE OFF, RESTART, DISPLAY CLEARS, THEN YOU CAN DRIVE. BUT, THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER TO THE LEFT, AND EXTREMELY EASY TO THE RIGHT. I'LL FAX (RECEIVED) A COPY OF THE INVOICE. SO FAR, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN. THE INVOICE SHOWS THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE.
GEAR SHIFT CONTROLLER GETS STUCK IN DRIVE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE LIGHT SYSTEM, THAT THE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKES. *TR
SMELLED GAS APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AGO. I THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS STEALING MY GAS. I BOUGHT A GAS CAP THAT LOCKS BUT MY GAS WAS STILL VANISHING. TODAY, I HAD PUDDLES WITHIN AN HOUR OF THE CAR SITTING. THE GAS LEAK IS ALL OTHER MY MUFFLER AND EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD THEREFORE I WILL NOT DRIVE IT. THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
VEHICLE WAS FINE, WENT TO START CAR NEXT DAY AND RECEIVED "SERVICE AIR BAG" WARNING LIGHT. WOULD NOT ALLOW CAR TO BE STARTED. CHECKED FUSES AND ALL WERE OKAY. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES. BOUGHT SEPT. 2005. *TR
TIE RODS ON A PONTIAC 2006 G6 ALSO THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. SOME MIDDLE ROD IN THE STEERING WHEEL. ALL OF THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED. *TR
I HAD A CLUNKING NOISE ON THE LEFT FRONT OF MY VEHICLE - I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND HAD THE SHOP REVIEW STEERING ISSUE - BALL JOINT WAS BAD REPLACED SAME ALONG W/ LOWER CONTROL ARM AND COMPLETED AND ALIGNMENT - ALSO HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON VEHICLE THEN A POPPING NOISE OCCURRED WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT, MY CAR EVEN JUMPED THE TRACK AT A CAR WASH AND I HAD TO REVERSE OUT OF THE CAR WASH AND HOLD MY STEERING WHEEL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CAR WASH. I THEN TOOK TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS DETERMINED I NEEDED TO HAVE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING LINK REPLACED, POWER STEERING MOTOR AND STABILIZER BAR LINK REPLACED - DAMAGED PARTS HAVE BEEN DISPOSED OF. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND VICE VERSA. HAPPENS SPORADICALLY. *TR
MY POWER STEERING COLUMN WENT OUT WHILE I WAS TRYING TO TURN INTO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AND I ALMOST SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GOT THE PROBLEM FIXED FOR $700 AND WITH IN THE TIME OF THE PART WARRANTY IT WENT OUT AGAIN. IT IS NOW 4 YEARS LATER AND IT JUST WENT COMPLETELY OUT AGAIN. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF 2006 PONTIAC G6 OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS COULD END UP BEING FATAL FOR SOMEONE IN THE RIGHT SITUATION. ALSO WHEN YOU CALL TO SPEAK TO GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY BRUSH IT OFF AS IF THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE WHICH CAN NOT POSSIBLY BE THE CASE IF THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED OUT OF THE BLUE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, SUMMER 2008. I WAS PULLED OVER THREE TIMES BY HIGHWAY PATROL AND ASKED WHY I WAS RIDING MY BRAKES. I WASN'T. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WENT OFF WHEN I MASHED THE BRAKES, FLICKERED BACK ON WHILE IDLING, THEN STAYED ON WHEN I GAVE IT GAS. I HAD IT FIXED THEN UNDER WARRANTY. A YEAR LATER, THE PROBLEM IS BACK. I WAS TOLD BY THE PONTIAC DEALER SERVICE MANAGER IT WOULD COST ALMOST $900 TO REPLACE THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) PLUS LABOR. OR I SHOULD BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, DRIVE THE CAR 30 DAYS, AND THEN HAVE IT FIXED. ON TOP OF THE OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUES OF FAULTY BRAKE LIGHTS, I'M ALSO NOT AS FOCUSED ON WHAT'S IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE I'M ALSO EXTRA WORRIED ABOUT WHAT'S BEHIND ME. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON WHILE ENGINE ON, LIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE BRAKING. CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES, HAVE HAD BRAKE SWITCH, SENSORS, COMPUTER CALIBRATED, LUBRICANT APPLIED, BATTERY REPLACED AND STILL NO FIX. 4 YEARS OF MECHANIC BILLS, AND STILL NO PERMANENT SOLUTION!!! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25-60 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTERWARDS, THE POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CANNOT STEER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT, HE MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING. THE DEALER FOUND NO FAILURES. THEY RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, WHICH ALLOWED THE POWER STEERING TO RESET ITSELF AND IT BEGAN TO WORK NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN TEN MINUTES OF LEAVING THE DEALER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND, AFTER SOME DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WERE PERFORMED, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS IN THE POWER STEERING MODULE. THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED AND THE REPAIR LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
PUT CAR IN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH, THE CAR JERKED LEFT SO HARD THAT IT PUNCTURED A TIRE WHILE IN THE CAR WASH. WENT TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES AND HAVE THEM ALIGNED AND ROTATED. WHILE TRYING TO ALIGN TIRES ON THE RACK WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING (ON THE RACK) THE WHEEL WOULD JERK TO LEFT. THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY PULL TO THE LEFT WITH NO WARNING. WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN TO THE RIGHT. WHEN TRYING TO CORRECT BY TURNING RIGHT YOU WOULD BE PULLING SO HARD ON THE WHEEL THAT WHEN IT WOULD RELEASE YOU WOULD ALMOST RUN OFF THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY RE-CALIBRATED THE STEERING, CAR HAD 43,812 MILES & I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. *TR

I'VE ALWAYS LOOKED FOR RECALLS ON ALL MY PREVIOUS CARS AND I DID IT FOR THE 06' PONTIAC G6 THAT I AM CURRENTLY PAYING FOR....SO...FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE AIRBAGS AND THAT GM WAS EVEN TRYING TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE......WELL.....I CALLED PONTIAC CUSTOMER CARE AND GAVE MY VIN NUMBER FOR THEM TO SEARCH FOR ANY RECALLS AND THE REP SAID THAT HE COULDN'T SEE ANY RECALLS FOR THAT CAR BUT THAT MY CALL WOULD BE FILED IF ANYTHING RISES UP LATER ON....WELL.....HE DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO HAVE MY CAR INSPECTED AT ANY DEALERSHIP EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT THE COMPLAINT WAS POSTED IN THE GOVERNMENT SITE (NHTSA) AND SEVERAL OTHER SITES ALL OVER THE INTERNET....OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE DENYING IT..... THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,700 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM #1 COCHRAN OF ROBINSON AND FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT I HAD SQUEALING COMING FROM THE FRONT END. UPON HAVE THE TIRES AND BRAKES CHECKED NOTHING COULD BE FOUND TO BE WRONG. AS I WAS DRIVING A 2006 PONTIAC G6 THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I LOOKED FOR THE RESERVOIR BUT COULD NOT FIND IT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS ELECTRIC. ON MY WAY TO GET IT CHECKED OUT, THE STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT. *TR UPDATE (10/4/08): WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR STILL, BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT DID SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND DRIVE IT A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD BE SURE OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. ON RETURN OF THE CAR THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AND THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT DID. I HAVE SINCE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. HOPEFULLY THAT LUCK CONTINUES.

I HAVE A MONTHLY CAR PAYMENT FOR 5 YEARS TO PAY ON THIS LEMON AND FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND FROM NUMEROUS ONLINE COMPLAINTS IT IS SOMETHING CAN NOT BE DETERMINED AND CAN NOT BE FIXED THIS HAS BEEN GOING FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR SINCE IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISSUE THE WOULD CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO RUN....WHAT AM I TO DO WHEN I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK BUT MAKE SURE THE CAR PAYMENT IS MADE TO THE FINANCE COMPANY THEY GOT THE LOAN THROUGH. AT FIRST THE CAR STARTED MAKING THIS LOUD NOISE. THE NOISE IS CONSTANT ONCE YOU GET UP PAST 20 MPH OR ACCELERATE. THE CAR ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE A MOTORCYCLE OR SOMETHING. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. TO BAD THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED; NOR IS IT COVERED UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN EXT. THIS PROBLEM EXIST EVERY TIME WE TAKE A DRIVE ( OVER A WEEK). THIS PART IS ON BACK ORDER THROUGHOUT THE PARTS WAREHOUSES IN THE U.S. (OVER 900 AND SOMETHING ODD BACKORDERS). I AM INCLINED TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A FACTORY ISSUE AND NOT A CASE-BY-CASE. *TR
BOUGHT A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT AUG1, 2007 WITH 34,000KM ON IT. SUMMER OF 2008 IT STARTED TO MAKE A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS IE: PULLING IN OR OUT OF PARKING. TOOK IT TO GM DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE INTERMITTENT STEERING SHAFT AND THEY SAID STEP ONE WAS TO LUBRICATE IT. THAT WORKED FOR APPROX 1-2 DAYS. NEXT STEP WAS TO REPLACE IT WHICH WAS DONE UNDER WARRANTY BY THE DEALER IN THE FALL OF 2008. IT IS NOW END OF FEB 2010 AND IY IS BACK AGAIN. THIS TIME IT PROGRESSED QUICKLY SO THAT IN LESS THAN 1.5 WEEKS IT HAS GONE FROM OCCASIONALLY TO CONSISTENTLY. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT RETURN TO GM FOR THIS REPAIR AS I HAVE NOW HAD 3 OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND NONE OF THEM WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING JAMS, LEADING TO A LOST OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE JAM OCCURS 2 TO 3 TIMES PER DAY. THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CANT FINE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR [2006 PONTIAC G-6. *TR UPDATE (10/5/08): WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE POWER STEERING WOULD STOP WORKING, THE WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN UNTIL THE SWITCH WAS TURN OFF AND BACK ON. IN THE MEAN TIME THERE WAS NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE INVOICE INDICATES CODE C0545-SHORT CIRCUIT IN STEERING COLUMN TORQUE SENSOR - REPLACED STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. FIXED.

THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THAT MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, BUT IT ONLY LASTED APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH BEFORE RECURRING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,390.
