THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY CAR WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME OR IN FRONT. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $1200 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR IT ONLY HAD 10 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS IT WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES. THE FIRST 2 TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS SOME LOOSE WIRING OR THAT THE WIRE WAS TO CLOSE TO A COMPONENT AND THE COMPONENT MELTED THE PLASTIC COVERING THE WIRES. THE THIRD TIME I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SECURITY INFORMATION BUT, IT WAS CORRECTED. THEN AT 40,000 MILES THE CAR STARTED JERKING WHENEVER I DROVE IT. IT SEEMED AS IF THE GAS WAS NOT GETTING TO THE ENGINE QUICK ENOUGH (I'M NOT A MECHANIC) THEN THE MILEAGE WENT CONSIDERABLY DOWN. FOR A FULL TANK OF GAS I USED TO GET 451 MILES THIS IS TOLD THROUGH THE FUEL MONITOR THAT IS IN THE CAR. BUT, AFTER THIS BEGAN OCCURRING THE MONITOR WOULD STATE 239 MILES AFTER I FILLED IT UP! I HAVE HAD TO FILL-UP 6 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS. WHEN A TANK OF GAS USED TO LAST 2 WEEKS FOR ME. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. ONCE THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE WOULD REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE AND THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST EITHER. WHILE I WAS ECSTATIC TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE GOING TO FIX MY VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE TO ME, WARNING BELLS DID SOUND OFF IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I RECEIVED THE INVOICE BACK FROM THEM IT STATED THAT THESE ITEMS WERE REPLACED: OXIDATION CATALYTIC CONVERTER, 2 GASKETS, 1 PIPE AND 2 MANIFOLD CORE CHG. AND AFTER ALL OF THIS WORK WHICH TOOK FROM 8:30A.M TO 2:00PM, MY MILEAGE MONITOR IS NOW REPORTING 300 MILES FOR A FULL TANK OF GAS WHEN ORIGINALLY I WAS GETTING 451. AFTER READING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS RE. THIS VEHICLE I AM JUST DISGUSTED. I WILL REVIEW THIS SITE WHEN PURCHASING MY NEXT VEHICLE WHICH I THINK WILL BE PRETTY SOON. *TR
MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I CAN USUALLY STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING COMES BACK ON. I WAS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 3 TIMES/WEEK AND I WAS TOLD BY AN AUTO SHOP THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED REPLACED. HOWEVER, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FELT THAT THIS WASN'T THE REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. INTERESTINGLY, I REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AND THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE SOLVED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. HOWEVER, IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, THE PROBLEM HAS AGAIN RECURRED APPROXIMATELY 3 TIMES. THIS HAPPENS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED AND SAT FOR 4-5 HOURS. ONCE AGAIN, IF I RESTART THE CAR, IT HAS RELEASED THE STEERING WHEEL ASSIST. HOWEVER, THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN TODAY AND I DROVE APPROX. 3 MILES WITH NO POWER STEERING. UPDATE (10/5/08): SINCE THE REPAIR (REPLACED STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY), I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS.
THIS PROBLEM STARTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT, STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND WOBBLY. THEN IT LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR OFF OVER-NIGHT, IT UNLOCKED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE, HOWEVER, IT IS STILL LOOSE AND WOBBLY WHEN TURNING LEFT. *TR
PASSENGER TIE ROD END EXCESSIVELY WORN ALMOST CAUSING TOTAL VEHICLE CONTROL AT 75,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE NECESSARY REPAIRS WERE MADE; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 70,300.
IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING I LOSE POWERING STEERING. I HAVE TALKED TO SOMEONE ABOUT THIS, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING SINCE THE CAR HAD JUST PASSED THE MILEAGE THAT WAS SET. THIS PROBLEM WAS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM BEFORE THE MILEAGE THAT WAS SET. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON AND SINCE IT WENT AWAY AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON I THOUGHT IT WAS NO BIG PROBLEM. IT THEN AGAIN HAPPENED THE FOLLOWING MONTH AFTER THAT INCIDENT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I95. I THEN DID A GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN AFFECT SINCE 2007 AND THIS IS WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. GM IS REFUSING TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CAUSING. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT IS I CAN'T GET FIXED JUST BECAUSE THEY DID A POOR JOB IN PUTTING THE INFORMATION OUT TO THE PUBLIC EFFECTIVELY ABOUT THE FAULT. I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED DURING MANUFACTURING PROCESS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND ABOVE, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND THEY WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF. WHEN DRIVING WITHOUT THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE CONNECTOR HAD CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. *TR UPDATE (10/16/08): THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN) MANY TIMES AND FEELS LOOSE AND TIGHT. RESTARTING THE CAR AND POWER STEERING WILL USUALLY RETURN. THE DEALER SAID THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS BAD BUT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POWER STEERING THEN IMMEDIATELY FAILED. SHE HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WAS NO CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR, AND ADVISED THAT THE MOTOR BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $370. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 41,000.
2006 PONTIAC G6 STEERING PROBLEM. THERE IS A AUDIBLE "BUMP" NOISE WHEN TURNING. REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AND LASTED FOR FOUR MONTHS. CAME BACK MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER, EACH TIME GETTING REPAIRED AND LASTING A FEW MONTHS. CAR SUDDENLY STEERS EXTREMELY HARD AND REQUIRES GREAT STRENGTH TO STEER OUT OF DANGER. *TR
FOR MY 2006 PONTIAC G6, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON MY CAR ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. ON JUNE 9, 2008 AS I BEGAN TO BAG OUT OF A DRIVE WAY, MY STEERING WHEEL STOPPED TURNING. THEN I JUST SLOWLY PULLED BACK INTO THE YARD AND CUT MY CAR OFF. I SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN PROCEEDED TO CRANK THE CAR TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, THEN MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO TURN. ABOUT FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, I CONTINUED TO ANOTHER DESTINATION AND WHILE I STOPPED AND THEN PROCEEDED TO TURN, MY STEERING WHEEL STOPPED TURNING AGAIN, SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN TURNED IT BACK ON ONCE AGAIN. ABOUT ONE MINUTE LATER I STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN AND IT WOULD NOT TURN SO I REPEATEDLY HAD TO CUT THE CAR ON AND OFF IN ORDER TO MAKE IT HOME SAFELY. I HAD TO DRIVE VERY SLOWLY. I CONTACTED THE GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY BUT THEY SAID THERE WASN'T A RECALL. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR 10 MONTHS. THE CAR HAD 32, 600 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND NOW THE MILEAGE IS 42,800. *TR
MY POWER STEERING HAS BEEN RANDOMLY GOING OUT IN MY CAR FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY TO FIX IT SO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR GM TO RECALL IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

I HAVE HAD A 2006 PONTIAC G6 FOR 6 MONTHS NOW AND HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS. ONE MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT IT I HAVE TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPAIRED/REPLACED. NOW I AM HAVING THE BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM REPLACED. THE ROTORS ALSO NEED REPLACED. NONE OF THIS WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER G6 OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AND OF COURSE WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
I AM FINANCING A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. THE POWER STEERING GOES IN AND OUT. BOUGHT POWER STEERING FLUID BUT COULD NOT FIND WHERE TO PUT IT. GOOGLED PONTIAC G6 HOPING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND DISCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD HAVE TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. *TR

PURCHASED ON TUESDAY MAY 27 2008...DROVE OFF LOT WITH 20,700MILES....ON MONDAY JUNE/1/2008 POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE LEAVING A BUSINESS...HAD TOWED, REPAIRED, AND BACK ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 3/2008.....DROVE APPROXIMATELY 500 MILES AND THEN ON JUNE 29 2008 RETURNING TUXEDOS TO RENTAL SHOP TURNING WHEEL TO GET INTO PARKING SPOT DISPLAY SAID POWER STEERING, HOWEVER VEHICLE STILL WORKED ALTHOUGH WHEN TURNING INTO PARKING SPOT STEERING COLUMN MADE POPPING SOUNDS... MONDAY JUNE 7/2008 BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY HEADING TO WORK, AND WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN..HAD TOWED DIRECTLY TO A PONTIAC DEALER TO HAVE POWER STEERING REPAIRED AGAIN FOR SECOND TIME IN 5 WEEKS...I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON SAME ISSUE, WHY HAS THIS NOT RESULTED IN A RECALL...ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT THAT IS BEING IGNORED. FIRST REPAIR WAS A POWER STEERING ASSIST, SECOND REPAIR WAS TOLD A FUSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CHANGE LANES WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE FROM THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WOULD DART FROM ONE DIRECTION TO ANOTHER WITHOUT THE DRIVER MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED FOR THE TWO PREVIOUS YEAR'S MODELS FOR THE SAME FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME LIABILITY FOR THE 2006 MODELS. BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OFTEN OFF DURING BRAKING AND ON WHILE NOT BRAKING. CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T WORK WHILE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON DESPITE NOT ACTUALLY BRAKING. WHEN TRANSMISSION IS IN PARK, BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE VERY FIRMLY DEPRESSED TO MOVE GEAR SELECTOR OUT OF PARK. *TR

JUNE OF 2008, THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACE AND SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. AFTER GETTING IT FIXED IT HASN'T COME BACK ON UNTIL ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AND IT IS NOW NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD IF I DON'T GET IT FIXED THEN WHEN IT COMES BACK ON THEN THE AIRBAGS WON'T DEPLOY. FEBRUARY OF 2011, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR OF MY O2 SENSORS AND THEN THE BRAIN IN ORDER FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF. BUT EVERY WINTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS 35DEGREES OR LOWER AND THEN I AM UNABLE TO REMOTE START MY CAR. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AND CODE THAT KEEPS COMING UP IS THAT I HAVE BAD O2 SENSORS BUT WHEN THEY ARE CHECKED THEY ARE STILL GOOD. BOTH OF THESE ARE A REAL PAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. ON A VERY HOT DAY, THE CONTACT OPENED THE DOOR TO HER VEHICLE AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. SHE NOTICED THAT A PART OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT, THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT, THE INTERIOR CEILING, AND A SMALL PORTION OF THE DASHBOARD APPEARED TO HAVE MELTED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEARCH TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR MORE INFORMATION AND GET BACK WITH HER. AS OF JUNE 9, 2008, THE CONTACT HAS YET TO HEAR FROM THE DEALER. SHE CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND FILED A COMPLAINT. SHE WAS INFORMED AGAIN THAT SHE WOULD BE CALLED BACK, AND WHEN SHE WAS, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. A REPRESENTATIVE CAME OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED HER THAT SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,835 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,546. I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH 67,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF A SCRATCHING, GRAVEL-LIKE SOUND IN THE FRONT END, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR SHOWED UP ON THE ELECTRONIC READ-OUT PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. WE ADDED POWER STEERING FLUID. APPROXIMATELY 6 WEEKS LATER, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR SHOWED UP AGAIN. WE POURED ANOTHER BOTTLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID INTO THE ENGINE. APPROXIMATELY 2 DAYS AFTER THAT, THE POWER STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT FAR FROM THE HOUSE, FAIRLY EARLY IN THE MORNING ON A 2-LANE ROAD. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FILLED THE ENGINE WITH YET ANOTHER BOTTLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID (I STARTED CARRYING AN EXTRA BOTTLE WITH ME, JUST IN CASE). THE CAR RAN FINE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 10 DAYS, WHEN THE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON YET AGAIN. THEN WE STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED OUR 2006 PONTIAC G6 IS IN GOOD COMPANY WITH NEARLY 200,000 OTHER DEFECTIVE MODELS BOASTING POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I'VE OWNED THREE CARS WITH MORE THAN 200,000 MILES ON THEM AND WERE OLDER THAN 20 YEARS OLD, AND NEVER - EVER - HAD TO REPLACE A STEERING COLUMN!! THE REPAIR SET ME BACK MORE THAN $900 AND I'M VERY FRUSTRATED, AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT WITH MANY G6 MODELS OF THE SAME MANUFACTURING YEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE SPORADICALLY LOST POWER STEERING ABILITY, WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND A REPRESENTATIVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO CURRENT REMEDY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,000.
I DRIVE A PONTIAC G6 2006, AND ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. OK SO I BOUGHT FLUID TO ADD TO THE CAR COME TO FIND OUT IT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. IT SAYS YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. I CHECKED THE NET AND COME TO FIND OUT IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. LOTS OF PEOPLE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MINE WOULD GO OUT ON ME AND THE START WORKING, AND GO OUT AGAIN. NO WRECK YET, THANK GOD. BUT I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO PAY $837 TO GET IT FIXED. MY G6 JUST KEEPS HAVING ISSUES. THERE IS A VIBRATING COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEN AT SPEED THAT SHAKES THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN AFTER THE TIRES ARE BALANCED AND THE STRUTS AND TIE RODS WERE REPLACED. IF I GRAB THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS, IT MOVES UP AND DOWN. WHEN PARALLEL PARKING, THE POWER STEERING FAILS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL WITHOUT HITTING THE GAS AND PUTTING THE CAR IN MOTION. WHEN I ASKED THE PERSON AT CHEVY DEALER ABOUT IT, SHE TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF LUCK UNTIL THE VIN POPS UP IN THEIR SYSTEM. UPON EXITING AN INTERSECTION AND TURNING RIGHT MY CAR (2006 PONTIAC G6 GT 3.5L WITH ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) DISPLAYED A WARNING LIGHT INDICATING A POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING LOCK IN THE RIGHT TURNED POSITION AND CONTINUED FORWARD UNTIL THE CAR STUCK THE CURB CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, FENDER AND MISALIGNING THE FRONT END, WE WERE UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING UNTIL WE TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND ON THIS SEEM TO RESET THE SYSTEM AND THE STEERING SEEM TO BE WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH FAULTY POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING CUTS IN AND OUT INTERMITTENTLY, SOMETIMES EVEN WHILE IN OPERATION. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN TAKING A CURVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND BECOMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THE FAILURE IS MOST PRONE TO OCCUR IN WARM WEATHER, AND GENERALLY IN THE SUMMERTIME IT RARELY GOES AWAY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE, AND THAT THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE IS EGREGIOUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR SPORADICALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. I NOTICED MY ON THE DISPLAY OF MY RADIO IT SAID POWER STEERING. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND BACK ON. THAT SEEMED TO HAVE CLEARED IT. WHEN I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, IT GENERALLY WOULD FIX. THEN SOME TIME LATER, IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. GENERALLY IT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN COMING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, SO IT WAS NOT AT FAST SPEEDS, BUT A FEW TIMES IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. I AM BLESSED THAT IT HAS NOT CAUSED MY FAMILY OR MYSELF TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT. IT IS UNSAFE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ONCE, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THE NIGHT I BROUGHT IT BACK HOME, IT WENT OUT AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY IT ALSO WENT OUT, AND I DROVE IT WITH NO POWER STEERING TO THE DEALERSHIP(AS INSTRUCTED). THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR (ELECTRIC). IT LASTED LESS THAN A WEEK AND WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT IT IS JUST A PROBLEM GM KNOWS ABOUT, BUT THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MY CAR IS UNSAFE FOR MY FAMILY AND GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS? I CALLED GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE (AN ADDITIONAL COST ADDING TO THE NOW THREE TIMES I HAVE HAD TO MAKE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP), AND THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER. A "REGIONAL SPECIALIST" IS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME WITHIN 24 HOURS. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD. . . AND I CANNOT PUT MY FAMILY IN IT FOR SAFETY REASONS. I WILL SEE HOW THEY ADDRESS IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DID A CRASH INQUIRY AND, ACCORDING TO THEIR INFORMATION, THERE WERE NINETEEN SIMILAR FAILURES. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 50,000. UPDATE (PHONE): THE RACK AND PINION WAS DISCOVERED TO BE FAULTY AFTER THE CRASH. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, A FIRESTONE SHOP RECOMMENDED THAT THE RACK-AND PINION BE REPLACED BUT THE CONSUMER DENIED AUTHORIZATION TO DO THE WORK.

THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,823.

ON 2/16/08 I WAS ON MY WAY TO FLORIDA FOR VACATION AND I WAS HALF WAY THERE WHEN I NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING. I ONLY HAVE 26,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND THIS WAS THE FIRST LONG DISTANCE TO EVER BE DRIVEN WITH MY CAR. SO WHEN I ARRIVED TO FLORIDA ON BAD BRAKES I TOOK IT TO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME I JUST NEEDED BRAKES AND IT WOULD COST 210 PER BRAKE BECAUSE ALL THEY BRAKES HAD WENT. AND I DIDNT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR BRAKES (WHICH VERY RARELY GO ALL AT ONCE OR AT 26,000 MILES.) I HAD JUST REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES A WEEK PRIOR. SO I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION AT ANOTHER PLACE WHO SPECIALIZE IN BRAKES ONLY AND THEY FOUND THAT THE CALIPERS IN MY CAR HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THEY WORE THE BRAKES DOWN TO BARE METAL. PONTIAC REFUSED TO PAY AND TOLD US THAT BRAKES AREN'T IN THE WARRANTY AND THAT IT'S NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WHICH I KNOW FIRST HAND ITS NOT. MY FATHER HAS A 04' KIA AND HES BEEN BACK AND FORTH TO FLORIDA 4 TIMES AND HAS 36,000 MILES AND HES NEVER REPLACED HIS BRAKES OR TIRES. THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS AND I KNOW THIS IS NOT NORMAL TO HAPPEN TO A CAR. *TR
