THE STEERING IN MY 2008 PONTIAC G6 IS VERY LOOSE AND WOBBLY. IT OCCASIONALLY PULLS VERY HARD IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND VEER OFF-TRACK. IT ALSO MAKES A POPPING NOISE WHEN I TURN. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,500.
FAILURE WITH POWER STEERING IN 2008 PONTIAC G6 CAUSED ME TO GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T MOVE, IT HAD LOCKED UP. CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR DOING 360'S ON THE HIGHWAY, HITTING THE CONCRETE MEDIAN ABOUT 4 TIMES GOING 55MPH. FRONT, BACK, BOTH SIDE PANELS AND ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF CAR WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. I HAD SEVERE WHIPLASH AS WELL AS SLIPPED DISKS IN MY NECK. HAD ABOUT $6,000 WORTH OF REPAIRS BUT INSURANCE COVERED IT. HOWEVER INSURANCE DID NOT COVER THE COSTS OR REPLACE THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE, HOWEVER MY LIGHT HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH PRIOR. I CANNOT AFFORD IT SO THEREFORE HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT FIXED. THE POWER STEERING ISSUE BEGAN IN MAY OF 2011. THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN MARCH. *TR
THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED (I.E. WHILE BOTH PARKED AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD). THIS DISABLES THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, WHICH ARE CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED, THEN TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED (UNDER LIGHT TO NORMAL BRAKING). THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO ILLUMINATE AGAIN IF YOU CONTINUE TO APPLY INCREASED PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL, HOWEVER NOT UNTIL CONSIDERABLY HEAVY BRAKING CONDITIONS EXIST (NEARLY ACTIVATING THE ABS). UNDER MOST BRAKING SITUATIONS (I.E. APPLYING MODERATE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES) THIS MALFUNCTION EFFECTIVELY CAUSES THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO WORK THE OPPOSITE OF HOW THEIR INDENTED. *TR
I PURCHASED MY PONTIAC BRAND NEW WITH 189 MILES. SHORTLY AFTER WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, I NOTICED A SQUEAKING NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED OUT AND THEY WERE FINE. WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO DIRT IN THE BRAKES. IN 2011 MY INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON TELLING ME TO CHECK MY FUEL CAP. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC, AND ENDED UP PAYING TO HAVE SOMETHING IN THE FUEL SYSTEM CHANGED. I AM STILL ENCOUNTERING ISSUES WITH THE INDICATOR LIGHT TO CHECK THE FUEL CAP. THE GAS MILEAGE IS TERRIBLE! I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DUE TO IT BEING WINTER. I THEN WAITED UNTIL SUMMER AND STILL AM EXPERIENCING FUEL ISSUES. A MAJOR ISSUE IN WHICH I HAVE NOTED THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER PONTIAC OWNERS ARE HAVING IS WITH THE STEERING. MY STEERING IS MAKING TERRIBLE CLANKING NOISES. I AM AFRAID THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO BREAK ON MY CAR. I AM SELF EMPLOYED AND TAKE CLIENTS ON ERRANDS/DR APPOINTMENTS AND RELY ON MY CAR TO GET US THERE SAFELY. I WILL BE TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN OF THIS ISSUE. I ALSO WILL BE COMPLAINING OF SEVERE RUST ISSUES ON MY CAR. MY WINDOW ALSO LEAKED WATER. MY DOOR WAS IMPROPERLY ALIGNED. WATER LEAKED INTO THE DOOR OF MY CAR AND DID NOT RELEASE CAUSING WATER TO STAY IN MY DOOR. I TRULY BELIEVE WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THE STEERING THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY. NOT TO MENTION WHAT OTHER PROBLEMS THE STEERING SHAFT IS CAUSING YOUR VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OF MY VEHICLE. FIRST THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT AND I REPLACED THE BULB, THEN DRIVER SIDE HAS WENT OUT AND THE BULB HAS BEEN REPLACED. ALSO I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS; I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL O'REILY'S AND AT FIRST WE THOUGHT THE LIGHT BULB NEEDED REPLACED BUT AFTER WIGGLING AROUND THE WIRES IT STARTED WORKING..THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. AS OF THIS YEAR I'VE CHANGED BOTH HEADLIGHTS TWICE AND THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHT AND AS OF TODAY I HAVE ANOTHER HEADLIGHT THAT HAS BLOWN..I GOT ONLINE AND NOTICES SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON THE PONTIAC G6 THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS ME AND THERE IS NO CORRECTION FOR THIS FIXED EXCEPT HAVING THE WHOLE LIGHTING ASSEMBLY CHANGED WITH THE WIRING WHICH IS A 700 OR MORE DOLLAR FIX. I'VE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE AS OF YET. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING FOR ME BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN STOPPED BY THE POLICE BEFORE BECAUSE OF THIS AND THIS IS STARTING TO BECOME A FINANCIAL BURDEN FOR ME. *TR
STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING ON ITS OWN. I HAD DIFFICULTY STEERING. ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT LOW TO MODERATE SPEED. *TR
2008 PONTIAC G6. CONSUMER STATES FRONT PASSENGER HEADLIGHTS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS *TGW
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY 2008 PONTIAC G6, ONE OF WHICH I HAVE CONTACTED GM BUT AM UNABLE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AT A DEALER TO THEN BE REIMBURSED, WHICH IS FOR THE ACTUATOR ON THE REAR DRIVER' SIDE DOOR THAT PREVENTS THE DOOR FROM LOCKING AND UNLOCKING; A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE TO CHECK THE DOOR EACH TIME I EXIT MY CAR, AS IT BEING LOCKED OR UNLOCKED IS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. I HAVE FOUND MANY POSTS ON WWW.G6OWNERSCLUB.COM WHERE OWNERS SHARE SIMILAR STORIES; ALONG WITH OTHER COSTLY, SAFETY ISSUES I EXPERIENCE. I WILL ALSO NOTE SOME OTHER ISSUES I HAVE REGARDING THE DOME LIGHT AND THE DOOR AJAR ESSAGE. I HAVE TO LEAVE MY DOME LIGHT IN THE OFF OSITION BECAUSE WHEN LEFT ON AUTO, IT DOES NOT DIM AND TURN OFF. ON DAYS I HAVE FORGOTTEN, I FIND MY DOME LIGHTS ON AFTER 12 OR SO HOURS OF NON-USE. IN AN EFFORT TO NOT FORGET AND DRAIN MY BATTERY, I LEAVE IT OFF; THIS LEADS TO MY HAVING TO GET IN AND OUT OF A DARK CAR AT NIGHT AND EARLY IN THE MORNING. ALSO, THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE DISPLAYS CONSTANTLY AND OFTEN MAKES A BEEPING NOISE IN WARNING. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DOOR SENSORS, CAUSING "DOOR AJAR" TO APPEAR. OTHER THAN BEING PURELY ANNOYED, MY CONCERN IS THAT IF A DOOR WERE TO EVER ACTUALLY BE AJAR, I WOULD HAVE NO PREMISE TO PULL OVER AND CHECK. ALSO, THE WARNING NOISE DOES SOUND AT TIMES WHEN THE MESSAGE IS NOT DISPLAYING, WHICH LEADS TO DISTRACTED DRIVING AS I CHECK FOR ISSUES ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THAT ALL PASSENGERS ARE WEARING SEAT BELTS. ALL THREE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED ISSUES STARTED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF ONE ANOTHER IN 2011, SHORTLY AFTER MY LEASE ENDED AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME IN READING MY CONCERNS. I HAVE ANTICIPATED A DAY FOR A RECALL TO ASSIST THOSE LIKE MYSELF, WHO LIVE ON A LIMITED INCOME AND CANNOT ADDRESS ALL OF THESE NON-DEBILITATING, YET UNSAFE G6 ISSUES, OUT-OF-POCKET. *TR
THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS NEED TO BE RESURFACED ON MY 2008 PONTIAC G6. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED LESS THAN 10 MONTHS AGO AND 6,500 MILES AGO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 50- 55 MPH WHEN THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED DESPITE THE BRAKES NOT BEING DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY COME ON AND DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE BRAKES WILL ALSO DRIVE AROUND SHOWING THEY ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE 2008 PONTIAC G6. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. THE NOISE IS MORE NOTABLE DURING COLD WEATHER AND DURING LOW SPEED TURNS (TURNS INTO PARKING LOT SPACES...90 DEGREE TURNS). AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN OF A GM SERVICE CENTER, THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A "BAD INTERMEDIATE SHAFT." THIS PART CONNECTS THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLE (NON ELECTRIC VERSION). THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON SEVERAL GM MODELS USING AN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT (SAME PLATFORM AS THE G6), BUT AS OF THAT DATE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM...ONLY A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN). COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS $253.90. *TR
MY BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AFTER I START THE CAR. I DO NOT HAVE THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. MOST OF THE TIME, WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE LIGHTS WILL STAY OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN THEY WILL TURN BACK ON, AGAIN WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I NOTICE THIS AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON (I CAN SEE THE REFLECTION OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE ROAD BEHIND ME). AFTER THIS OCCURRED MOST RECENTLY, I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND THIS ISSUE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR REPAIR AND THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, WHICH IS AT LEAST FOUR TIMES PER WEEK. *KB
VEHICLE WILL NOT ENGAGE IN PARK, MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO START VEHICLE. WHEN GEAR SELECTOR IS IN THE "PARK" POSITION, VEHICLE DOES NOT ACTUALLY ENGAGE IN PARK AND WILL ROLL. PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE PREVENTS ROLLING, BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF ONE FORGETS TO ENGAGE PARKING BRAKE, OR IF THE PARKING BRAKE EVER FAILED. DEALER STATES THE SHIFT CABLE AND BRACKET NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $282. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM IN OTHER PONTIAC G6 MODEL YEARS, AND OTHER GM VEHICLES SOME OF WHICH HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE PROBLEM, WHY IS THE 2008 MODEL YEAR NOT INCLUDED? *TR
STEERING WHEEL CONTINUES TO SHAKE AND IS HARD TO CONTROL, ESPECIALLY FOR A SMALLER WOMAN. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND IS GETTING WORSE. AT FIRST THE LIGHT ONLY CAME ON, THEN IT SHOOK HERE AND THERE OR IT WOULD SHAKE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THEN THE SHAKING WOULD STOP. NOW IT IS SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLE AND LIKE I HAVE MENTIONED IT IS HARD FOR ME TO HANDLE. IT HAS JERKED SO HARD SEVERAL TIMES TO WERE I'M OFF THE ROAD OR IN THE OTHER LANE. UNTIL I CAN FIX THE ISSUE MYSELF I HAD TO SWITCH CARS WITH MY BOYFRIEND ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE TO TAKE MY SON TO DAYCARE ON A DAILY BASIS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP AROUND 46,000 MILES ON IT AND IT PROBABLY STARTED NO MORE THAN 75,000 MILES. I AM AWARE THERE ARE RECALLS BUT I HAVE CALLED AND ENTERED THE VIN MYSELF AND IT SHOWS NO RECALLS. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY GM ISSUED, WHICH IS WITHIN 10 YEARS OF THE DATE YOUR VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 150,000 MILES (240,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, THE CONDITION WILL BE REPAIRED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. ONCE AGAIN, I'VE BEEN TOLD BY TWO DEALERSHIPS MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY. THE CAR DISPLAYS THE SAME ISSUES THAT OTHER GM CARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON BUT YET IT DOES NOT QUALIFY. I ASSUME IT TAKES MORE COMPLAINTS AND UNFORTUNATELY MORE INJURIES AND DEATHS FOR IT TO QUALIFY. *TR
RT FRONT HEADLIGHT PLUG & CONNECTOR PINS ARE BADLY CORRODED AND BURNED. HEADLIGHT IS INOP. LT FRONT HEADLIGHT PLUG AND CONNECTOR PINS ARE BADLY CORRODED; NOT YET BURNED UP. HEADLIGHT WORKS. *TR
IN THE BEGINNING THE WHINNING NOISE WAS ONLY WHEN I MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. NOW WHENEVER I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT IT MAKES A LOUD PIERCING WHINNING NOISE LIKE RUBBER OR SOMTHING IS ABOUT TO SNAP. IT IS EVEN LOUDER THAN IT WAS A YEAR AGO. IT CAN'T BE SAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED GM HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ARCADIAS, BUT GM HAS DECIDED TO PAY FOR THE FIX ON THAT VEHICLE BUT NOT DESIGN THE PART TO FIX THE PONTIAC G6. THEY STATED THAT PART WOULD NOT FIT MY G6. THEY ALSO STATED BECAUSE G6S ARE NO LONGER BEING MADE, THEY HAVE NO REASON TO FIT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT A SIMILAR PROBLEM. IF THEY KNOW HOW TO FIT IT ON THE ARCADIA'S, THEN THEY SHOULD BE FIXING IT FOR FREE ON THE PONTIAC G6S. I THINK THIS IS SUCH BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FEEL THEY WILL BE LOSING MANY CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE SUPPORTED GM OVER THE YEARS. HONESTLY, I FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR WITH THIS NOISE, BECAUSE I FEEL THE MORE I DRIVE, THE WORSE IT GETS, UNTIL THE POINT SOMETHING IN THAT STEERING WILL SNAP AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. *TT
I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS ALMOST EVERY SIX MONTHS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2010. THEY ARE CONSTANTLY GOING OUT. I TOOK IT TO AN ELECTRICIAN. HE REPLACED A PIECE IN THE WIRING, THEN THE OTHER HEADLIGHT, AS SOON AS I FIX ONE SIDE THE OTHER HEADLIGHT GOES OUT. I KNOW IT HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR ALMOST 8 YEARS THIS MAY. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT IS OUT NOW. I LOVE THIS CAR, IT RIDES GREAT, BUT THIS HEADLIGHT SITUATION IS FRUSTRATING.
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING AND STAYING STILL!!!! ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT TODAY....
MY 2008 PONTIAC G6 IS HAVING SEVERE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES STIFF AND STARTS SHAKING SEVERELY AT ABOUT 30-40 MILES PER HOUR. IT JUST TURNED OVER 50000 MILES. THE SHAKING OF THE STEERING IN AND OUT OF POWER CAUSES THE CAR TO SWERVE INTO THE OTHER SIDES OF THE ROAD. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY PEOPLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE IT CAUSES A DEATH IN THIS FAMILY!
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT PLUG/FAULTY WIRING. *TR
THIS IS THE WORST MOST UNSAFE CAR I'VE EVER OWNED. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT FROM TIME TO TIME THE AUTOMATIC LOCKOUT FOR THE DOORS DON'T ALWAYS WORK. THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DOESN'T LOCK OUT UNLOCK AT ALL. THERE ARE OBVIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES THE BUTTONS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ALSO OPERATES SOME SORT OF SWITCH TO KILL POWER TO THE RADIO WHEN ITS OPENED IT IS NO LONGER WORKING CORRECTLY. ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS CAR HAS A DEADLY MALFUNCTION. THE TRANS MISSION DOESN'T SHIFT CORRECTLY. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY GM THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND IF WE WANT THEM TO CHECK THE OTHER ISSUES WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR AS THEY ARE NOT KNOWN ISSUES, HOWEVER JUST GOOGLE ANY ONE OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED ISSUES AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER OWNERS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS AND NO ONE IS FORCING GM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY I'M SORRY BUT I DON'T THINK THAT WHEN YOU PAY $20,000 FOR A VEHICLE THAT THERE SHOULD BE THIS MANY PROBLEMS AFTER A FEW YEARS. *TR
TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL CREATES A RECOGNIZABLE CLUNKING SOUND AND PRODUCES SOME VIBRATION IN THE VEHICLE AT SPEEDS ABOVE 40MPH. LEFT TURN CLUNK, RIGHT TURN CLUNK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE STEERING IS OBVIOUSLY FAULTY, PROVEN BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON THIS SIGHT. *TR

AROUND 65000 MI IN 06/15/2011, DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS 10% OF THE TIME AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS 50% OF THE TIME. NOW AT 83000 MI IN 10/2012, DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS 1% OF THE TIME AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS 10% OF THE TIME. THIS IS A SAFETY/SECURITY ISSUE: IF THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED INTO GEAR, THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY MAY BE COMPROMISED IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. TOOK TO GM DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING RACK AND SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED. I'VE HAD SEVERAL NEW AND USED CARS AND NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR REPAIRS. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I SEE MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. THIS COST ME $833 TO FIX. NOW JULY 2011 THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHILE SITTING AT IDLE. STEERING WHEEL MOVES LEFT AND RIGHT BY ITSELF WHILE SITTING AT INTERSECTION. STEERING TO THE LEFT IS VERY LOOSE AND WHEN TRYING TO STEER BACK TO THE RIGHT IS VERY TIGHT. IT IS VERY SCARY TRYING DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE CAR MOVING STRAIGHT. TOOK IT BACK TO THE GM DEALERSHIP AND NOW THEY TELL ME THE STEERING BOX IS GOING TO NEED TO BE REPLACED. ESTIMATED COST: $350~. AFTER 1 MONTH WAIT FOR THE STEERING BOX UNIT ARRIVAL/BACK ORDER. WE TAKE THE CAR TO REPAIRED AND WHEN THE GM TECH OPENS THE PART PACKAGE THEY TELL US THE NEW PART IS DAMAGED AND WE HAVE TO WAIT LONGER THE NEXT PART THEY ORDER. THESE PROBLEMS SHOULD BE COVERED BY & RECALLED BY GM. THESE ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES AND ARE NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH OTHER GM CARS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WHY AREN'T THE G6 CARS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD BY GM THE PARTS ARE THE SAME WITH THE COBALT, HHR, SOME SATURNS. THIS IS OVER $1100 OUT OF MY POCKET TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE PARTS FROM GM. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

THE CONSUMER STATED HE DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AT FIRST, BUT THEN HE NOTICED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED HARD TO THE FLOOR A EVEN RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS, THE BRAKES DIDN'T RESPOND AS THEY SHOULD; BASICALLY THE BRAKES WERE NOT EFFECTIVE WHEN HAVING TO STOP SUDDENLY. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON ALL THE TIME, AS HE WAS DRIVING, BUT WOULD GO OUT, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. ALSO, WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE REPAIR SHOP FOUND A CODE OF C0277 BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PEDAL SENSOR. WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS, AFTER THE REPAIR, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, WHICH THEN RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF HIM STOPPED SUDDENLY AND HE STATED HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP, BUT THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED AND HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE REPAIR SHOP, TO SEE WHY THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON. THE REPAIR SHOP FOUND A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH AND RECALIBRATED THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THEY ALSO FOUND AN INTERNAL FAULT WITHIN THE CONTROL MODULE AND REPLACED IT. AFTER HE LEFT THE REPAIR SHOP, ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. THE REPAIR SHOP FOUND A BAD CONNECTION FROM THE EBCM TO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.

APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED, RESULTING IN A CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

INTERMITTENT STALLING OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. AT FIRST THE STALLING TOOK PLACE ONCE EVERY FEW WEEKS AND ONLY AS THE SPEED WAS DECREASING. I WAS TURNING A CORNER AND HEARD AND FELT A CLUNK IN THE STEERING
ON ACCELERATING FROM 0 TO 20 MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR, WHEN LETTING OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT, WHEN RE-ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AND THE ENGINE RACES TO 7000 RPM, THEN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AT ABOUT 5000 RPM AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JERK FORWARD. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/30/12, 3/5/13, 8/19/13, 9/12/13. DIAGNOSIS CANNOT FIND ANY PROBLEM AND THE TECHNICIAN TELLS ME I AM "TRICKING" THE TRANSMISSION WHEN I DE-ACCELERATE AND ACCELERATE AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM FROM 30,000 MILES TO CURRENT MILEAGE OF 47,000 MILES. RECENTLY, I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT ABOUT 25MPH AND THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I ACCELERATED AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE ENGINE RACED TO 7000 RPM. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM THE REAR. I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OPERATING IN THIS ERRATIC MANNER. I DO NOT BELIEVE TRANSMISSIONS ARE ENGINEERED TO ALLOW A DRIVER TO "TRICK" THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ COMMENTS FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE THAT A SIMILAR PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE COULD BE A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHERS SHOULD AN ACCIDENT OCCUR.
I HAVE A 2008 G6 THAT ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES. THE REAR DOOR LOCK HAS STOPPED WORKING. WHEN LOOKING ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.
