The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the dealer for service under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V701000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however after the service the vehicle started but did not idle due to an air intake hose not reinstalled on the vehicle. The contact stated that the air intake hose needs to be replaced however, the repairs have not been completed. The contact stated that before taking the vehicle into service the manufacturer was made aware of an issue with the dealer due to his interaction with the service manager. He was worried that the dealer was not going to service his vehicle correctly. The contact did not have a case number available as he stated that he had contacted the manufacturer several times. The contact stated that the vehicle had no issues before the recall service. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING AND PARKING THE VEHICLE, FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED BY THE OWNER. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. NO FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN REGARDING THE INCIDENT. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT YET NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 180K MILES. CAR WILL NOT SHIFT ON IT OWN I HAVE TO FORCE CAR INTO GEAR BY SPEEDING UP HEARING TRANSMISSION WHINE AND THEN LETTING OFF THE GAS PEDAL SO TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GEARS. THIS IS ON ALL ROAD CONDITIONS. SO MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE WHY HAS GM NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS MATTER.
I TOOK MY PONTIAC GTP TO BURLINGAME PUTNAM IN CA BECAUSE I CHECKED ON HERE NHTSA IF I HAD A RECALL AND I DID WHICH WAS FIRE WALL COMPARTMENT RECALL SO WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HAD MY CAR SERVICED I PICKED IT UP AND ONCE I GOT HOME I NOTICED ONE VALVE COVER WAS REPLACED WHICH WAS ONLY ONE VALVE COVER FACING THE FRONT OF THE CAR! THE VALVE COVER FACING THE REAR TOWARDS THE FIRE WALL WAS STILL THE OLD VALVE COVER! AND IS STILL LEAKING OIL WHICH IM AFRAID MIGHT TAKE OUT MY ENGINE IF IT BLOWS THE HEAD GASKET COMPLETELY AND CAUSE A FIRE,CAN EVEN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT! PLEASE HELP. TECHNICIANS SHOULD DO A COMPLETE SERVICE NOT JUST HALF OF THE JOB AND BE LAZY TO NOT EVEN REPLACE THE REAR VALVE COVER THATS VERY IRRESPONSIBLE AND WHAT IF I HAD KIDS OR FAMILY WHEN THIS HAPPENS

EXCESSIVE OIL LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. VALVE COVER GASKETS AND INTAKE GASKETS LEAKING OIL DIRECTLY ON TO THE MANIFOLD I SMELL IT BURNING EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT AND THERE IS A VISABLE PUDDLE OF OIL ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE
A WHILE BACK THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX YEARS 2000 - 2004 IF IM NOT MISTAKEN DUE TO OIL LEAK CAUSING AN ENGINE FIRE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A PRIVATE OWNER AND WAS WONDERING IF THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS THAT WHEN I PUT OIL IN IT IS DOES LEAK ON TO THE GROUND BUT WITH HOW MUCH OIL I PUT IT IN ALREADY DOESNT EXPLAIN WHERE THE REST OF IT WENT, ID SAY ABOUT 5 QUARTS IN A DAY. I JUST DONT WANT TO BE DRIVING AND SUDDENLY HAVE THE ENGINE CATCH FIRE IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD AT 55MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL JUST CUT OFF FOR NO REASON, THEREBY I LOSE CONTROL OF LL THE VEHICLE SAFETY COMPONETS,HAVING TO TRY AND GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENS TO A LOT OF GM VEHICLE MADE IN THIS VEHICLE YEAR. THERE ARE MANY ON THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME VEHICLE DEFECT. THIS IS CLEARLY A GM VEHICLE DEFECT. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALL AS A PUBLIC SAFETY HAZZARD. MYGM REFERENCE NUMBER IS ( 8-3665783770). SO PLEASE DO THE PUBLIC A SERVICE AND HAVE THIS VEHICLE RECALL , BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS A PUBLIC SAFETY HAZZARD. NO ONE MECHANIC SEEN TO BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILED INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO DETERMINE IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE A DEALER TO SERVICE THE TWO RECALL REPAIRS AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I AM PROBABLY THE 3RD OWNER OF THIS CAR AND WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THE RECALL EXISTS BECAUSE I WAS SEARCHING FOR A REASON FOR MY CAR TO EXPERIENCE AN ENGINE FIRE THIS PAST MONDAY. AFTER CALLING THE MANUFACTURER, IT APPEARS THAT THE SEARCH FOR CURRENT OWNERS IS NOT IN THE PURVIEW OF THE MANUFACTURER AND ALL OF THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE RESEARCH OF THE CAR IS ON THE PURCHASER. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE, THE CAR HAD BEEN BEING DRIVEN TO THE COFFEE STORE, WHEN RETURNING TO THE CAR ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER, IT WAS DISCOVERED TO BE ENGULFED IN FLAME. WITH FLAMES COMING OUT FROM THE HOOD. MY ISSUE IS WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF NOTIFICATION AND THE REASONABLE EXPECTATION OF A CONSUMER THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF A LICENSED VEHICLE MAKE ATTEMPTS TO COMMUNICATE RECALL DATA BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER. ALL STATES MONITOR ALL LICENSED VEHICLES INCLUDING THE CURRENT OWNER. IT SEEMS THAT THIS DATA CAN BE UTILIZED TO MAKE A FAR BETTER ATTEMPT TO LOCATE OWNERS WHEN SUCH A HAZARD EXISTS WITH THE CAR. I WAS COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE RECALL STATUS OF THIS CAR.
THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW AT DESERT PONITAC, IT APPEARED NOT TO HAVE THE ALARM I WAS TOLD WAS INSTALLED IN THIS CUSTOM CAR OR EVEN AIRBAGS WITHOUT ME EVEN KNOWING-IN THE PAST SEVERAL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN TAKEN WITHOUT MY PERMISSION , GETTING MORE BOLD AND VICIOUS EVEN TO MY OWN HOUSE IN ANAHIEM .CA WHERE I MOVED TO GET AWAY FORM PEOPLE FROM RIVERSIDE , ALLERGAN PHARM-AND PEOPLE FROM A GROCERY STORE NEAR THE TYLER MALL RIVERSIDE .CA - THE FOLLOWING AGES HAVE BEEN STOLEN WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION OF ANY KIND- APPEARING THE ME , BY [XXX] AND AN ASIAN WOMAN APPEARING IN THE FARRELS AS FAR BACK 1972 AND CONTINUING ON EVEN REPORTING THIS AT MY OWN WEDDING IN 1985 TO TWO ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFFS AT MY WEDDING THAT MY CAR WAS ALREADY MISSING FROM THE PARKING LOT BEFORE THE WEDDING WAS EVEN OVER-ANAHEIM .CA BALL RD-CAMEO WEDDING CHAPEL-[XXX] MY BROTHER WAS AT THAT TIME ALLOW TO DRIVE MY CAR BUT NOT TO GIVE IT TO ANYONE AT ALL-(HE LIVED IN FOUNTAIN VALLEY.CA- I ASKED THE ANAHEIM POLICE TO REPORT [XXX] AS THE HOUSE I LOVE [XXX] SHE KEEPS TRYING TO TAKE PEOPLES HOUSES AND [XXX] DOES NOT PROTECT ME OR MY CHILDREN AS HIS SISTER- AS HER BROTHER USED TO OWN THE HOUSE ? THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. TAKATA RECALL MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX RECENTLY STOPPED GOING IN D ONE DAY I CAME OUTSIDE MY HOUSE AND STARTED MY CAR IT WENT IN REVERSE PERFECTLY FINE JUST WOULDNT GO IN D SO I USED THE MANUAL OPTION OFF 1ST GEAR AND THE GEARS WORKED ONLY FOR A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY ALSO WENT OUT. ON ANOTHER OCCASION STILL NOT GOING IN DRIVE USING THE MANUAL OPTION MY CAR COMPLETLEY WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN I TRIED TO GO AT A STOP SIGN IN ANY GEAR OTHER THAN REVERSE. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO FIND OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR ALSO HAS THIS PROBLEM THEY SAY IT COULD BE THE SLENOID IN THE TRANSMISSION OR THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF.

THIRTY MINUTES AFTER LEAVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN INTAKE MANIFOLD REPAIR, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ALL THE COMPONENTS UNDER THE VEHICLE WERE BURNED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS RECEIVED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN.
MY DAUGHTER HAD BEEN DRIVING THIS 2000 PONTIAC AND WAS COMPLAINING OF IT SMELLING "HOT" ALL THE TIME. WE HAD THE SERVICE SHOP TAKE A LOOK UNDER THE HOOD, AND HE INSTANTLY SAID, CHECK WITH GM ON A RECALL FOR THESE LEAKY VALVE COVERS"! INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, WE HAD THAT VERY RECALL NOTICE HANGING ON THE FRIDGE, WAITING FOR A CALL THAT" PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AND TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS"! WELL GUESS WHAT GM, A FEW DAYS AFTER I CALLED A LOCAL GM DEALER, AND SHE SAID "OH NO, WE DON'T HAVE PARTS ON HAND, WE JUST WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO CALL AND THEN ORDER THEM", THE CAR BURNED UP! JUST AS THEY SAID COULD HAPPEN! THEY ALSO SAID DON'T PARK INSIDE A GARAGE! THEY ARE RIGHT! IT WAS PARKED OUTSIDE THE SHOP, THANK GOODNESS, WHEN IT BURST INTO FLAMES! I COULD HAVE EASILY LOST DAUGHTERS IN THIS BLAZE, DUE TO GM'S FAILURE TO REPAIR THE CAR CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME, THEN FAILURE TO HAVE THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR IT THE SECOND TIME IT WAS RECALLED!! NOW THEY DON'T WANT TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE THEY LET BURN UP!! I FILED A COMPLAINT, SENT PICTURES OF THE BURNED UP THING, AND THEY BASICALLY SAY "TOUGH LUCK". I AM THROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN GM ON THIS DEAL. YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS CAR PROBLEM, STEP UP TO THE PLATE, AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT! FIRST OFFER 610.00 DOLLARS! HA! WHAT CAR DO I BUY MY DAUGHTER FOR THAT!? SECOND OFFER 800.00, AGAIN, WHAT CAR DO I BUY MY DAUGHTER FOR THAT? BRING ME OUT A COUPLE OF CARS AT THAT PRICE GM, AND WE WILL SEE IF THEY CAN REPLACE THE CAR YOU LET BURN UP! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, OPENED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE CONTACT REACHED FOR THE PILE OF SNOW NEARBY AND USED IT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE POLICE WERE NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE AND NO REPORTS WERE FILED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE PLASTIC VALVE COVER GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, BUT IT DID NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A JUNK YARD. PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED FOR VALVE COVER LEAK WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE TO FIX THE SAME VALVE COVER...THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO BOTH VALVE COVERS. THE FRONT COVER WAS FIXED BUT THEY DID NOT FIX THE REAR VALVE COVER WHICH ALSO LEAKS OIL ONTO THE MANIFOLD AND THE MAIN EXHAUST PIPE. I HAD THE CAR IN FOR A REPAIR A FEW YEARS AGO AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THE REAR VALVE COVER WAS LEAKING AND NOT TO PARK IT IN THE GARAGE UNTIL I HAD IT FIXED, I ASKED IF IT WAS TO BE FIXED UNDER THE RECALL AND HE SAID NO ONLY THE FRONT ONE. WELL THE FRONT ONE IS NOT CAUSING THE FIRE HAZARD, IT IS THE REAR ONE. I HAVE HAD A SMALL FIRE IN THE REAR OF THE FIREWALL AS A RESULT AND CLEAN THIS AREA TO KEEP THE OIL FROM BUILDING UP.HOW DO I GET THIS RECALL EXPANDED TO INCLUDE "VALVE COVERS" INSTEAD OF JUST THE FRONT ONE?. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AS I DID RECEIVE A NOTICE THEY WERE HAVING TO DESIGN AND THEN MAKE NEW FRONT VALVE COVERS AND REMOVE THE COVER OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. MY CONCERN IS THEY ARE ONLY FIXING 1/2 THE PROBLEM AS THERE ARE 2 VALVE COVERS, AND THE ONE THEY HAVE THE RECALL ON IS NOT THE ONE LEAKING OIL ONTO THE EXHAUST. I HAVE BEEN PARKING OUTSIDE AND THEIR IS OIL SPOTS WHERE THIS GRAND PRIX IS PARKED.

I DROVEFOR A SHORT TIME, LESS THAN A 10 MILE DISTANCE, THEN PULLED INTO A FRIENDS DRIVEWAY. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, SO I OPENED THE HOOD, AND THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY ENGINE. SO I PUT THE HOOD DOWN, BUT DID NOT CLOSE IT WHILE I GRABBED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THE FLAMES HAD TRIPLED, IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, CONSUMING THE MORE THAN HALF OF THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITHOUT CALLING THE FIRE DEPT. AND WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE TO THE GARAGE IT WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF.

THERE ARE MANY SAFETY CONCERNS ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST CONCERN IS THE SMOKE THAT COMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD BECAUSE OF THE OIL LEAKING ON THE ENGINE WHILE IN MOTION. TO THE POINT I HAVE HAD TO USE A HOSE TO COOL DOWN THE MOTOR. OIL POURED OUT WITH THE WATER. I HAVE HAD THE PRIOR RECALLS DONE AND STILL HAD LEAKING AFTER THE SO CALLED RECALL WAS DONE IN 2010. I WAS TOLD BY CASTLE PONTIAC (NORTH RIVERSIDE, IL) THERE WAS NO FURTHER REPAIRS THEY COULD OFFER. EVEN THOUGH I SHOWED THEM THE OIL CONTINUING TO LEAK AFTER THE SO CALLED RECALL WAS COMPLETED. THE SECOND CONCERN IS THE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY THAT IS FOGGY LOOKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE POOR LIGHTING. THE NEXT CONCERN IS THE SUSPENSION THAT IS LITERALLY FALLING APART. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE HEAD GASKET CHANGED ON THIS VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. ALSO THE TAIL LAMPS RETAIN WATER EVERY TIME IT RAINS & THE PASSENGER & DRIVERS SIDE DOORS FILL WITH RAIN. LIKE I SAID THERE ARE MANY SAFETY CONCERNS ON THIS VEHICLE. WE PURCHASED THIS 2000 GRAND PRIX GT FROM ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL IN JULY 2015. ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE ON 10/20/2015 WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR RESIDENCE. NEIGHBORS ALERTED US (5-10 MINUTES AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM A FIVE MILE DRIVE TO ENJOY A 35 MINUTE MEAL) THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. FLAMES WERE EVIDENT BELOW THE ENGINE. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTROL THE FIRE WITH HELP FROM OUR NEIGHBOR, USING TWO HOME EXTINGUISHERS. THE TROY, OH FIRE DEPT RESPONDED; ENSURED THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY OUT AND CAR WAS SAFE TO LEAVE (CUT WIRES ON BATTERY). DISCOVERED GM RECALL NO. 09047 & GM RECALL NO. 07035 AS WELL AS NHTSA RECALL #07E-21 INDICATING ISSUES WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE.
