2001 GRAND PRIX GTP. ENGINE FIRE. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ROUGHLY 5 MILES."NO HARD BRAKING". PARKED AND WAS ON FIRE WITHIN 10 MINUTES. TOTAL LOSS. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. ROUGHLY A MONTH AFTER GETTING THE NOTICE FROM GM ABOUT A PENDING RECALL. *TR
THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS CAUSING A HUGE AMOUNT OF CONSUMERS TO REPLACE PARTS IN VEHICLES. THE GASKET LEAKS CAUSING A MIXTURE OF ANTIFREEZE AND OIL CAUSING ENGINE DAMAGE. EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR IS DONE, BECAUSE OF DESIGN, IT WILL JUST FAIL AGAIN. I JUST HAD IT REPLACED 1 1/2 YEARS AGO, NOW I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. *TR
REAR BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING, BUT THIRD CENTER BRAKE LIGHT IS WORKING. TOOK TO MECHANIC (PEP BOYS) WHO CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, BRAKE FLUID AND REPLACED THE BULBS AND FUSES, (AS WELL AS A MOTOR W/REG FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WINDOW, SERPENTINE BELT, ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT, TIE ROD OUTER AND OIL CHANGE). WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK, REALIZED THEY NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. RETURNED THE CAR AND TOLD IT WAS THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AT A PRICE OF $450.00. THIS IS GREAT CONSIDERING MY BILL FOR EVERYTHING WAS $1,500.00, AND THE PROBLEM I BROUGHT IT IN FOR (BRAKE LIGHTS) WAS NEVER FIXED. I AM HOPING THAT AT SOME POINT THE ISSUE WILL BE ADDRESSED TO SAVE OTHER UNSUSPECTING POOR SOULS THAT BOUGHT A PONTIAC (GRAND PRIX GT). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. ON MARCH 25, 2008, THE DEALER REPLACED THE LEAKING WATER PUMP, FLUSHED THE SYSTEM AND ADDED ANTI FREEZE. ANTI FREEZE WAS LEAKING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 25, 2008 AND ON MARCH 26, 2008 ANTI FREEZE CONTINUED TO LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE AND IN THE GARAGE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE FLUID MIGHT BE OVER RESIDUE. THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE TODAY. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE ENGINE/HOOD AREA CAUGHT ON FIRE. THIS VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE A GN RECALL. I CALLED IT IN, AND A CASE WAS INITIATED (CASE [XXX]), IT WAS LATER TURNED INTO A CLAIM, AND I SUBMITTED ALL THE REQUESTED PAPERWORK TIMELY. I NEVER RECEIVED AN UPDATE AFTER THAT. I HAVE BEEN CALLING THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE CASE WAS FORWARDED TO CENTRAL CLAIMS. THE CENTRAL CLAIMS DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT SINCE IT WAS PRE-2009 I HAD TO CONTACT MOTORS LIQUIDATION CORPORATION. MOTORS LIQUIDATION CORPORATION HAS CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED MY CLAIM IN THE BANKRUPTCY CASE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU CAN GIVE ME SOME GUIDANCE, OR IS THERE ANY LEGAL AUTHORITY THAT CAN OBLIGATE THEM TO REOPEN MY CLAIM, OR JUST PROVIDE A RESOLUTION. IT'S FRUSTRATING TO THINK THAT THEY CAN JUST "DISAPPEAR" SUCH AN AGGRAVATING INCIDENT IN THE SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENED DURING A TRIP TO NUEVO LAREDO, TAMAULIPAS MEXICO. IT WAS REPORTED TO GM IN DETAIL AND EXTENSIVELY, A COPY OF THE TITLE, AN AFFIDAVIT AND THE INVOICE WHERE THE REMAINING WERE SOLD TO A JUNK YARD WERE ALL MAILED TO AN ADDRESS PROVIDED. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM GM. EVERY PHONE NUMBER THAT HAS BEEN PROVIDED TO ME LEADS NOWHERE. I EMAILED MR. JEFFREY M BOYER VICE PRESIDENT OF GLOBAL VEHICLE SAFETY AT GM THIS AFTERNOON WITH CC TO MR. ANTHONY FOXX THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. SEE THE ATTACHED NOTICE. *THE DATE THAT I AM PROVIDING IS ESTIMATED SINCE IT HAPPENED A LONG TIME AGO AND I DON'T HAVE MY NOTES WITH ME.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. AFTER BEING PARKED IN THE GARAGE FOR TEN MINUTES, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN DRIVEN FOR 5 MILES. THERE WERE NO PRIOR FAILURES OR WARNING INDICATORS. THE FIRE WAS DOUSED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND THE CARPET IN THE GARAGE WAS BURNED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 89,000.
ON THE MORNING OF FEB 11, 2008 , I DROVE MY CAR TO THE STORE (APX 5 MILES) I THEN RETURNED HOME DROVE MY CAR INTO THE GARAGE SHUT IT OFF AND WENT INSIDE. I WAS PUTTING MY GROCERIES AWAY AS OUR SMOKE DETECTOR WENT OFF. I SMELLED SMOKED AND RAN AROUND THE HOUSE TO TRY AND FIND THE SOURCE. I OPENED MY GARAGE DOOR AND FLAMES WERE SHOOTING OUT OF THE HOOD. THEY REACHED TO THE CEILING. MY NEIGHBOR RAN AROUND THE CORNER TO MY HOUSE I HANDED HIM A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND HE YELLED AT ME TO TRY AND OPEN THE HOOD. I DID HE THEN EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. *TR
FIVE TO 10 MINUTES AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. IT COMPLETELY BURNED THE CAR, GARAGE AND PART OF OUR HOME. *TR
LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON. FOUND COOLANT TO BE LOW. ADDED THE GM COOLANT. 2 WEEKS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAK AS REPORTED BY HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH REPAIR BILL OF $700. VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED EXACTLY AS PRESCRIBED BY MFG. *TR
2001 PONTIAC GP 3.8, GOING ON THE 3RD POWER STEERING PUMP, CALLED GM\PONTIAC NO HELP THERE; JUST SOME ONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT CARS. THE PUMP IS OBVIOUSLY UNDER SIZED AS THEY ALL MOAN AND GROAN FROM DAY ONE UNTIL IT GETS SO LOUD THAT YOU REPLACE THE PUMP. HELLO TOYOTA GOOD BYE YOU LOUSY UNDER WORKED OVERPAID GM FAT CATS. *TR
DRIVING MY 2001 GRAND PRIX GTP HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 4:15 PM ON FRIDAY JANUARY 18TH. THE CAR STARTED LOOSING POWER AND I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HEAVY BLACK SMOKE QUICKLY BEGAN TO COME OUT FROM THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AND WITHIN 30 SECONDS THE CAR WAS IN FLAMES. FIRE RESCUE PROCEEDED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE CAR APPEARS TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. THIS CAR WAS IN PREMIUM CONDITION. 80,000 MILES AND MAINTAINED WITH RECORDS IMMACULATELY. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DID NOT INDICATE ANY ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURE AS WELL AS THE BATTERY AND OIL GAUGES. *TR
2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX CAUGHT FIRE IN 2006 AT ELLENSBURG, WA AND BURNED TO THE GROUND IN 2008. PONTIAC NOW SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT AS A FLEET VEHICLE. WHAT? DOES THAT MAKE THEM FIRE PROOF?? *TR
CAR WAS DRIVING 1.5 MILES AT 8:00 AM. CAR WAS DRIVEN 1.5 MILES AT 2:45 PM. CAR WAS PARKED, AND ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. *TR

THEY STATED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE GARAGE SUSTAINED SEVERE PROPERTY DAMAGE. THERE WAS NO RECALL INFORMATION AVAILABLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL OIL LEAK COMING FROM THE VALVE COVER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 09/16/08. *LJ THE VALVE COVER GASKET LEAKED OIL ONTO THE ENGINE. UPDATED 09/17/08. *JB
MY DAUGHTER RETURNED HOME AFTER A FIVE MINUTE DRIVE AND PARKED OUR 2001 GRAND PRIX GT IN OUR DRIVEWAY. 15 MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE HAD SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I TRIED TO OPEN THE HOOD BUT THE LATCH MUST HAVE MELTED. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPT CAME OUT AND PRIED OPEN THE HOOD THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THEY PUT THE FIRE OUT BUT IT WAS TO LATE, THE CAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOTALED BY OUR INSURANCE COMPANY. I HAD A GM INVESTIGATOR COME OUT TO SEE THE CAR AND HE TOOK MANY PHOTOS. I KEPT THIS CAR IN IMMACULATE CONDITION. ALWAYS HAND WASHED AND WAXED IT. ALL REPAIRS DONE AT THE DEALER. AT 97,000 MILES THE CAR LOOKED AND RAN LIKE NEW. AFTER TALKING TO OTHERS AND DOING SOME RESEARCH IT APPEARS THIS FIRE MAY BE DUE TO A FUEL LEAK INVOLVING THE FUEL RAIL. THE LAST REPAIR AT THE DEALER INVOLVED REPLACEMENT OF INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS IN MAY OF 2007, WHICH ARE LOCATED AROUND THE FUEL RAIL. GM HAS NOT GOTTEN BACK TO ME REGARDING THIS INVESTIGATION. THIS CAR HAD THE GM 3800 SERIES II V6 ENGINE ON THE ODI INVESTIGATION EA07-008. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE SOON BEFORE SOME ONE LOSES THEIR LIFE, HOME, ETC. *TR
SPARKS AND SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AS THE POLICE OFFICER TRIED TO OPEN THE HOOD, ENGINE COMPARTMENT IGNITED INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES. THE CAR IGNITED WHILE SITTING IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN RUNNING POORLY WITH DECREASED GAS MILEAGE, SAT IN VEHICLE WHILE IDLING AND NOTICED ROUGH IDLE. SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED 10 MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE BACKFIRED AND WOULD NO LONGER IDLE AT ALL. SAME PROBLEM THE FOLLOWING MORNING, NEEDED A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, VACUUM LINE AND OIL CHANGE. (GAS IN OIL) *TR

THE CONTACT JUST RECENTLY LEARNED OF THE SAFETY RECALL; HOWEVER, SHE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR TEN MINUTES, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SHE WALKED TO THE VEHICLE AND HEARD A SMALL SOUND BEFORE FLAMES SHOT OUT OF THE HOOD AND UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. BOTH FRONT TIRES AND ALL THE WIRING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WERE COMPLETELY MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SHOP AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. AN INVESTIGATION WAS FOUND THAT EXPLAINED THIS EXACT FAILURE, BUT NO RECALLS WERE AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 160,000.
VEHICLE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILURE. CHEAP AND DEFECTIVE PLASTIC MANIFOLD GASKET BROKEN CAUSING ANTIFREEZE TO LEAK INTO ENGINE AND MIX WITH OIL OF VEHICLE. CAUGHT BEFORE MAJOR DAMAGE OCCURRED LIKE ENGINE FAILURE. *TR

THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED WITH A YARD HOSE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER AT THIS TIME. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E021000 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER: STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES) WAS REFERENCED. THE VIN, PURCHASE DATE, ENGINE SIZE, AND NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,300.
I OWN A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX AND MAINTAIN MY CAR ON A REGULAR BASIS. YESTERDAY, AFTER RETURNING FROM A LUNCH TRIP DURING MY WORK DAY, I PARKED MY CAR IN MY OFFICE PARKING LOT AND A FEW MINUTES LATER I WAS PAGED TELLING ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHER 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX OWNERS HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM - AND THERE ARE. HOWEVER, THE ONLY RECALL THAT EXISTS (NOT BY GM) IS BY DELPHI - WHO MANUFACTURED THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR - WHICH I'M TOLD THE FUEL COULD LEAK AND RESULT IN A FIRE. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS. I BELIEVE THIS FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A GM PRODUCT LIABILITY. *TR
SEPTEMBER 2007: 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY, ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER IT HAD BEEN DRIVEN ON A TRIP FOR ABOUT 40 MILES. NEIGHBORS NOTICED FIRE AND CALL FIRE DEPARTMENT, WHO PUT OUT FIRE. ENGINE COMPARTMENT DESTROYED, PASSENGER COMPARTMENT NOT AFFECTED, BUT CAR WAS DEEMED TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY. SIX MONTHS PREVIOUS CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED FOR RUNNING ROUGH, MECHANIC REPLACED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, BUT ALSO NOTED SMOKE FROM THE VALVE COVER GASKETS LEAKING OIL ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, WITH "A LITTLE BIT OF OIL WETNESS AROUND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD". UNFORTUNATELY WE DIDN'T GET THIS REPAIRED BECAUSE OF COST AT THE TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED AND HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY TOUCHED OR CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PARKED OUTSIDE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED BY A REPAIR SHOP. UPDATED 09/25/07. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE NORMAL BRAKES WORK, BUT THE VEHICLE SKIDS OCCASIONALLY WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. HE STATED THAT THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WERE NO LONGER WORKING PROPERLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HARNESS WAS VERY HARD AND BRITTLE. THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HARNESS WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE SPEED AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
TAIL LIGHT SEALS DO NOT WORK AND KEEP FILLING WITH WATER NOT ALLOWING THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO BE SEEN! THEY WERE REPLACED ONCE AND ARE LEAKING AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. THE FUSE AND BULB WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE REMAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH FAILED. THE REPLACEMENT WILL COST $400. THE DEALER INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,300 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,250.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING AND THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH WAS STUCK. THE CONTACT CHANGED THE BULBS AND THE FUSES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO START A RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
OUR CAR GAS GAUGE MOVES UP AND DOWN. I CAN FILL IT UP , THEN THE NEXT IT GOES TO E AND THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON WARNING YOU TO GET GAS. THE NEEDLE GOES TO FULL TO EMPTY MOVES BACK AND FORTH. I SAW THIS IS HAPPENING ON GM MODELS. THIS IS A GM. IS THERE A RECALL YET. *KB

PURCHASED USED 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX IN JUNE, 2007. COMPLAINED TO AUTO DEALER THAT CARS TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THEY TEST DROVE VEHICLE AND STATED IT WAS OK. TRANSMISSION CENTER OFFERED TO PUT IN TRANNY FOR 1200. HE WILL NOT MATCH THE COST NOR PAY FOR IT. I FEEL HE IS PARTIALLY LIABLE FOR THIS AS HE SOLD IT LIKE THAT. I AM AN OWNER OF A 2001 GRAD PRIX SEDAN, 3.1 L V6 ENGINE, WITH 76,300 MILES. ON 1 APRIL 2007 I TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE I WAS TOLD THAT THE COOLANT LEAKS HEAD OR INTAKE THAT CANNOT CHANGE THE OIL TO PLEASE CONTACT THE DEALER OR A MECHANIC. ON 2 APRIL 2007 I TOOK THE CAR TO BE SERVICE BY JOHN HINE PONTIAC, IT WAS THEN THAT A SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT MY CAR NEEDED A INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET RESEAL, AND FLUSH/CLEANING COOLING. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT GM IS HAVING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS DON'T ALWAYS SEAL PROPERLY. IT SEEMS THERE IS A WIDE PROBLEM THAT GM HAS NOT INFORM CONSUMERS AND WE HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIX WHEN IT SHOULD BE THE COMPANY WHO SHOULD TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AT NO COST. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP IN THE NAME OF A LOT OF CONSUMERS WHO ARE IN THE SAME PREDICAMENT AND WE ALL ARE ASKING IF THERE IS A LAWSUIT ALREADY OR HOW DO WE ASK GM TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *JB
PURCHASED THIS CAR USED, IT WAS 2 YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 21K MILES. KEPT UP WITH ALL MAINTENANCE. DEALER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 3 MONTHS. BUT DID NOT NOTIFY ME WHEN THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY EXPIRED SO I WAS UNABLE TO EXTEND. PURCHASED A PLATINUM WARRANTY FROM AAA. TRANSMISSION "BLEW UP" AT 48K MILES. HAD IT REPLACED PER WARRANTY W/A USED TRANSMISSION AS WARRANTY WOULD NOT PAY FOR NEW ONE. DROVE THE CAR FOR 19 MOS AND 12K MILES AND TRANSMISSION BLEW UP AGAIN! DEALER SAID WARRANTY WAS ONLY GOOD ON TRANSMISSION FOR 1 YEAR AND THEY ARE MAKING INQUIRIES AS TO WHETHER I HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER ONE EVEN THOUGH MY CONTRACT W/AAA WARRANTY CO IS GOOD TO 8/10/08 OR 83,894 MILES. WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN MY 2001 GRAND PRIX PONTIAC THE STEERING LOCKED UP. THIS ALMOST CAUSED A HEAD ON COLLISION. THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT WAS UNAFFECTED. THE LOCAL DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION STEERING WHICH COST ME $971.00. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM.*AK
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2006 FROM LAFONTAINE 4399 HIGHLAND RD, WATERFORD, MI. SOME TIME IN FEBRUARY/MARCH I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THEM DO TO THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. I NEVER WAS TOLD WHAT WAS WRONG BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT DID NOT FALL UNDER MY WARRANT AND PLUS MY WARRANT SUPPOSEDLY EXPIRED. WITH IN THE NEXT MONTH MY CAR STARTED TO LEAK OIL REALLY BAD, I HAVE TO PUT AT LEAST 2 QUARTS IN IT WITH IN ABOUT A WEEK TIME. COME TO FIND OUT WHEN I WENT TO GET MY OIL CHANGED I WAS TOLD THAT MY OIL PAN LOOKS LIKE IT IS RUSTED THROUGH. I SPOKE WITH A GM EMPLOYER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ONLY WAY AN OIL PAN WOULD DO THAT IS IF THE METAL/MATERIAL USED TO MAKE THE PAN IS DEFECTED, OTHER THAN THAT, AN OIL PAN SHOULD LAST IT S LIFE TIME. ON TOP OF THE THEM TELLING ME THIS, I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT IT LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE HAD TRIED TO USE SOMETHING TO STOP THE LEAK, LIKE SOME SORT OF WELD. NOT SURE WHAT THEY MEANT BY THAT. NEXT IS THE WIPERS, MY WIPERS TURN ON WHEN YOU START UP THE CAR AND THEN STOP AT AN UPRIGHT POSITION. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE WIPER MOTOR IS GOING. COME TO FIND OUT EVERY TIME I SEE SOMEONE WITH MY TYPE OF CAR, I JUST HAVE TO ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY DO ESPECIALLY WITH THE WIPERS. I CALLED PONITAC ON THIS AND FOR THEM TO CONSIDER FIXING IT, I HAVE TO GO PAY FOR THE DEALER TO INSPECT IT, THEN FAX IT IN, AND THEY MAY COVER THE FIX, BUT IT IS NOT A GUARANTEE. I PRICED WHAT IT WOULD COST AND IT IS A LOT OF MONEY OVER 1300.00 FOR ALL TO BE FIXED. I DO NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF MONEY, SO FOR NOW I JUST KEEP PUTTING OIL IN IT, PUSH MY WIPERS DOWN, AND HOPE IT DOES NOT RAN, BECAUSE THE WIPERS GET CAUGHT UP, AND HOPE THE CAR LAST. I STILL OWE MONEY SO I WILL DO WHAT I CAN TO KEEP IT RUNNING. I BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE PUT A QUICK FIX ON THE OIL PAN AND IT WAS NEVER REVEALED UNTIL I FOUND OUT MYSELF THE HARD WAY. IF IT IS A DEFECT PART I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. *TR

ON 3/3/07 MY 2001 GRAND PRIX GTP SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE AFTER BEING PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES. THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *JB
2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP ENGINE FIRE. CAR WAS TURNED OFF. 5-10 MINUTES LATER IT CAUGHT FIRE. WAS ABLE TO GET A EXTINGUSHER AND QUICKLY TO PUT IT OUT. CAR WAS PARKED AND ENGINE WAS OFF. *JB
IN THE PAST I'VE OWNED A 1994 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP WHICH HAD A OIL PAN GASKET LEAK AND I BELEIVE THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE. NOW I OWN A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT AND IT IS VERY STRANGE THAT I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IN THIS CAR THE DEALER IS ASKING $671.00 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AND I THINK SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS AND I DON'T BELEIVE I'M THE ONLY PERSON TO DISCOVER THIS AND IF THERE IS A SUCH RECALL PLEASE LET ME KNOW. CAR HAD BEEN PARKED SINCE PREVIOUS NIGHT UNTIL APPROX 2:45 PM ON FEB 16, 2007. DAUGHTER STARTED CAR TO GO TO WORK. CAR STARTED, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY DULL POP ("LIKE OPENING A JAR OF PICKLES"). GRAY/WHITE SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDER HOOD AND SHE IMMEDIATELY KILLED IGNITION. SMOKE CONTINUED, SHE RAISED HOOD TO FIND TOP OF ENGINE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. UNIVERSITY GROUNDSKEEPERS CREW NEARBY AND ABLE TO PUT WATER ON FIRE UNTIL FIRE DEPT ARRIVED. FIRE CONTAINED TO TOP OF ENGINE AND NEARBY ACCESSORIES. EXTENT OF DAMAGE UNKNOWN AT THIS EARLY DATE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, HE COULD HEAR A CRACKING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TIE ROD ENDS WERE WORN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIE ROD ENDS, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED 8,000 MILES LATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART HAD BEGUN TO CRACK AND THEY REPLACED THE TIE ROD ENDS AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE HE BELIEVES IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY. UPDATED 09/18/07 *TR
CAME HOME, PARKED ON DRIVEWAY. WENT INSIDE, HEARD NOISE OUTSIDE. WENT BACK OUT AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUT THE CAR WAS TOTALED. *JB
