I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JANUARY 2017 ABOUT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR DUE TO BROKEN WIRING. GM STATES THAT THEY HAVE NOT DEVELOPED A REPAIR YET. 11 MONTHS SEEMS A LITTLE TOO LONG!

TAKATA RECALL I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE THAT IS NOT DRIVEN VERY MUCH. I WENT ON VACATION AND REALIZED MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN SOME ONE SEATS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE LIGHT STAYS OFF ALL THE TIME. NOW THE AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT IS FLASHING ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF, WHICH MEANS THE AIRBAGS NEED TO BE SERVICED. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE AIR BAGS AND WHY ARE THEY NOT WORKING PROPERLY?
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO BOOK A RECALL APPOINTMENT FOR A YEAR NOW TO HAVE MY ISSUE RESOLVED. EVERY TIME I SPEAK WITH KUNI CHEVROLET, THEY LET ME KNOW THE AIRBAG PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR PONTIAC, ONLY TO BE RE DIRECTED BACK TO KUNI CHEVROLET WITH THE EXACT SAME OUTCOME. MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS LIT ON MY DASH WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE PASSANGER SEAT.
AT 80,000 MILES AND VERY LITTLE TIME SPENT WITH A PASSENGER, THE AIRBAG SENSOR LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT FAILED. THIS DISABLES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND CONTINUALLY DISPLAYS BOTH A WARNING ON THE VEHICLE'S DIC AND A LIGHT ON THE DASH. I FEEL THAT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THE AGE AND USE OF THE CAR. THE SENSOR WAS REMOVED AND EXAMINED TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAULT. A BREAKAGE WAS FOUND OF THE INTERNAL ELECTRICAL CONTACTS AT THE CENTER OF THE SENSOR MAT. THE FAULT DISPLAYED WITHOUT WARNING AND HAS REMAINED SINCE.
WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH ROAD AT 55 MILES PER HOUR AND NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH "SERVICE AIRBAG" MESSAGE ON INFO SCREEN. HAD A DEALER SCAN CODES AND FOUND PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR BAD. AFTER GOOGLING IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE CAR ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT.
PASENGER PRESENCE MODULE HAS FAILED 3 TIMES. EACH REPAIR IN EXCESS OF $1000. CAR IS LOW MILEAGE AND WELL MAINTAINED. TECHNICIAN REPAIRING THE CAR INDICATED THEY BELIEVE IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART. DATES OF FAILURE REPAIR: 12/09/09, 12/05/12 AND 10/19/16. EACH TIME THE SAME PART AND SAME DIAGNOSTIC CODE FAILURE. ALL SERVICED BY GM SERVICE. FILED COMPLAINT WITH GM CASE # 8-2463003227 ON 10/21/16. RELIEF DENIED.

THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE. THEY SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG PROBABLY WON'T WORK IN AN ACCIDENT. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS OVER $800.00. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 33,598 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND AFTER READING NUMEROUS WEBSITES, THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER CONCERNED OWNERS OUT HERE. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP GET A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ?
WHEN DRIVING AT APX 60MPH THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS REMAINED ON.AFTER A VISIT AT THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME A DRIVER SIDE SEAT SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A TOTAL COST OF OVER 800$ CANADIAN
SERVICE AIR BAG (RED LIGHT) CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET WITH PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG TURNED OFF AND NOTHING ON PASSENGER SEAT. HAD VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FAULTY PPS MODULE IN PASSENGER SEAT. VEHICLE HAS 52'000 MILES.
OUR SOLSTICE NOW HAS A PASSENGER SEAT SEAT BAG SENSOR LIGHT ON. WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND WERE INFORMED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THEY PROMPTLY TOLD US IT WOULD BE OVER $1000 TO FIX. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAS 23,000 MILES ON IT. THIS LIGHT REMAINS ON AT ALL TIMES. WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT EVEN REPLACING THE SENSOR MAY NOT BE A PERMANENT FIX AS THE SENSOR GOES OUT FREQUENTLY. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM? WILL IT TAKE A FEW DEATHS FOR THE RECALL?
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR "AIRBAG SERVICE" AND PASSENGER WARNING LIGHT FOR SAME. HAD INSPECTED $100 AT LOCAL SERVICE STATION. INFORMATION GIVEN TO ME IS THAT SENSOR UNDER PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, AND IT WILL COST ME $725 APPROX TO HAVE FIXED. I'VE ATTACHED PHOTO OF THE DETERMINATION FROM THE SERVICE STATION. CODE B0081 - ABS IS REFLECTED WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL? I THOUGHT SAFETY ITEMS HAD TO BE REPAIRED BY THE MFG. MY CAR HAS 52000 MILES ONLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE BULB HOUSING COVER MELTED AND CAUSED THE BULB TO FAIL. THE BULB HOUSING COVER AND THE BULB WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR SHORTED OUT AND MELTED AND ALSO MELTED THE WIRING HARNESS AS WELL. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. PETITION FOR NHTSA TO COMMENCE PROCEEDINGS FOR AN INVESTIGATION OF THE 2006 - 2010 PONTIAC SOLSTICE AND THE 2007 -2010 SATURN SKY, SPECIFICALLY THE AREA OF AIR BAGS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (CD ENCLOSED). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABOVE MENTIONED VEHICLE HAD REPEATED FAILURES OF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM (PSS) SENSOR MAT. OVER TIME, THE MAT WILL KINK AND FOLD WITH USE AND EVENTUALLY A BREAK WILL DEVELOP IN THE CIRCUITRY OF THE SENSOR MAT CAUSING A FAILURE AND POSSIBLY LEADING TO THE PASSENGER AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. *JB

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG APPARENTLY IS INOPERABLE AS DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT IS NOW ALWAYS OFF, INDICATING THAT THERE IS NO PASSENGER WHEN IN ACTUALITY MY WIFE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND SEATBELT BUCKLED. THIS HAS OCCURRED OFTEN OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS BUT NOW IT ALWAYS IS "OFF". HOWEVER, NOW, THE RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS LIT, ALSO ALONG WITH THE CHECK AIRBAG MESSAGE. ACCORDING TO SEVERAL SOLSTICE FORUMS ON THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY SOLSTICE AND SKY OWNERS. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM ASAP AS THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE RED LIGHT AND CHECK AIRBAG MESSAGE CAME ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY, AND STAYED ON FOR THE DURATION OF THE RIDE. AND EVERY TIME WE USE THE VEHICLE THESE WARNINGS COME ON.

MY INSTRUMENT PANEL IS READING SERVICE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS AFFECTING ME TO BE ABLE TO SEE MY ODOMETER READING, I HAVE TWO PONTIAC SOLSTICE CARS AND THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE FRIENDS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND THEY ARE GETTING THE SAME READING ON THEIR CARS,I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAG IS JUST GOING TO GO OFF ON ITS OWN ONE DAY OR NOT GO OFF IN AN ACCIDENT, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.
PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR HAS GONE BAD FOR THE SECOND TIME. ONLY LASTED ABOUT THREE YEARS. ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME THERE IS NO ONE SETTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO SHOP, THEY SAID THEY HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND SAID IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM BUT SO FAR GM REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED, GIVING ERROR ON DASHBOARD. RESEARCHED ERROR TO FIND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT OCCURS FREQUENTLY AND THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR IS REPORTED TO BE VERY TEMPORARY.

THE AIR BAG SENSOR IN MY VEHICLE FAILED SHORTLY AFTER LOGGING 25,000 MILES. THE FAILURE INDICATION HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEED WHILE TURNING LEFT ONTO A BUMPY ROAD. ANY PASSENGER IN THE CAR FACES ADDED RISK IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OWNER'S COST TO FIX THIS ITEM IS PROHIBITIVE ($800 OR MORE), AND THAT THE EARLY FAILURE OF THIS PART IS SOMEWHAT COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. DISCUSSING THIS WITH OTHER OWNERS, I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE AND THE EXPENSIVE FIX ONLY TEMPORARILY SOLVES THE PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THIS CAN LEAD TO A DEPLOYMENT FAILURE OR AN UNEXPECTED AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS IS AN UNRELIABLE SAFETY CRITICAL COMPONENT THAT HAS NO PLACE IN A PASSENGER VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE WARNING CHIME SOUNDED WHICH INDICATED THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS NOT LATCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATE EVEN WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS UNOCCUPIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,775.

PONTIAC SOLSTICE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR HAS FAILED THEREBY CAUSING A FAILURE OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM AND THE CONTINUAL ILLUMINATION OF THE AIRBAG FAILURE LIGHT.
2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE WITH 12,901 MILES HAS FAILING PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM FAULT (71), CAUSING BOTH AIRBAGS TO BE DEACTIVATED. CONSIDER THIS A REQUIRED SAFETY DEVICE. PASSENGER SEAT RARELY USED, IN A RARELY USED VEHICLE. JUST HAD THIS REPLACED FOR SAFETY PURPOSES AT A COST OF OVER $800. SIMILAR TO *MANY* OTHER AIRBAG ISSUES CURRENTLY LISTED FOR SOLSTICE/SKY.
PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR FAILED WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY PASSENGERS AS WELL AS MYSELF. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS OVER 800.00 NOT INCLUDING LABOR TO INSPECT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND NOT TO INCLUDE INSTALLATION. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL !!!
WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. THE DEALER SAYS PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A PROBLEM IN JUST ABOUT ALL PONTIAC SOLSTICE VEHICLES AND SATURN SKY VEHICLES. FOR THIS REASON I BELIEVE GM SHOULD ANNOUNCE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL TO HAVE THIS DEFECT REPAIRED BEFORE INJURY OR DEATH IS CAUSED BY THEIR NEGLIGENCE.

DEAR NHTSA CSR, I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT APPEARS GM IS IGNORING A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE REVIEW THE COMPLAINT I FILED WITH GM BELOW AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEAR GM CSR, ON AUGUST 27, 2015 I HAD MY 2006 SOLSTICE IN FOR SERVICE AT RENTSCHLER, SLATINGTON, PA. THE ISSUE IS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS NOT ACTIVATING FOR MY WIFE BUT DOES FOR ME. SHE WEIGHS 119 LBS. RENTSCHLER REPORTED PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WORKING FINE. I ASKED WHAT IS WEIGHT OF PERSON THAT SAT IN PASSENGER SIDE SEAT? THEY INDICATED A MALE TECH. I STATED WORKS FOR ME ALSO BUT NOT FOR MY WIFE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE ONE OF THEIR GIRLS (ROBIN) TRY. THEY THEN WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ROBIN WEIGHS 110LBS. THE RENTSCHLER SERVICE PERSON THEN SHARED THEY CALLED GM AND WERE TOLD BY GM THAT THE AIR BAG ACTIVATION SENSOR IS WORKING WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERS. I FIND THIS DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE. THE AIR BAG SENSOR WORKED FINE FOR MY WIFE FROM THE YEAR I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2006 UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AGO. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS BREACH OF SAFETY PROTOCOL WHEN AIR BAG IS NOT BEING ACTIVATED FOR A 119LB ADULT. I DID NOT ARGUE WITH RENTSCHLER SINCE THEY CONTACTED GM, FELT MOST EXPEDIENT TO CONTACT GM. SINCERELY, [XXX] IN SUMMARY, THE AIR BAG SENSOR INDICATOR WORKED FINE FOR NEARLY 9 YEARS THEN SUDDENLY IT STOPPED WORKING. GM / RENTSCHLER CLAIM THE AIRBAG SENSOR WORKING WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERS. THIS JUST SEEMS LIKE A VERY SERIOUS BREACH OF SAFETY PROTOCOL. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A 119 LB ADULT WOULD NOT ACTIVATE THE AIRBAG SENSOR AND BE PROTECTED BY THE AIR BAG IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. COINCIDENTALLY THE PROBLEM STARTED AFTER THE IGNITION SWITCH CHANGED PER RECALL. ON JUNE 9, 2015 I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH A PASSENGER. WHILE DRIVING THE ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AS WELL AS THE RED LIGHT AIR BAG INDICATOR. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF THEN BACK ON. THE ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE AND THE RED LIGHT DID NOT RE-APPEAR. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS....SOMETIME LATER THAT DAY I STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT A PASSENGER, ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE DID NOT COME ON. I THEN DROVE THE CAR WITH A PASSENGER AND AGAIN THE ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE APPEARED. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT A PASSENGER AND THE ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE DID NOT APPEAR. HOWEVER LATER ON IN THE DAY, THE MESSAGE RE-APPEARED WITHOUT A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. FROM THEN ON THE ?SERVICE AIR BAG? MESSAGE APPEARED CONSTANTLY THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THOMAS PONTIAC GMC IN COBOURG ONTARIO ON JUNE 11, 2015. THE FAULT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED ON JUNE 13, 2015....I OBTAINED THE OLD PART FROM THE DEALER AND FOUND THE ISSUE TO BE A HAIRLINE CRACK IN THE COPPER MAT THAT MAKES UP THE AIR BAG SENSOR....WHEN SEARCHING FOR SIMILAR INSTANCES ON A PONTIAC SOLSTICE FORUM, I FOUND THAT NOT ONLY ARE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURES COMMON, BUT THEY ARE ALSO OCCURRING AT AN EARLY AGE. PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR, INTERMITTENT FAILURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE MY WIFE HAS BEEN SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A KNOWN AND COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE AIR BAG SENSOR DOES NOT ALWAYS RECOGNIZE A PASSENGER AND TURNS OFF WHILE PASSENGER IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT THROUGHOUT THE SOLSTICE COMMUNITY. THE AVERAGE REPAIR COST IS $600-$800 DOLLARS FOR A SAFETY PRODUCT !! THIS MUST BE ADDRESSED BY NHTSA BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR MAIMED BY THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT !!! THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A MANUFACTURER TO CONTINUE TO ALLOW AN INFERIOR PRODUCT TO BE USED. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED IN ALL DIFFERENT AGE AND MILEAGES IN THIS VEHICLE. THE SYSTEM MAY ALSO NOT RECOGNIZE A PASSENGER DEPENDING ON THEIR WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION ON THE SEAT. A SIMPLE FIX IS A SOFTWARE FLASH TO "ALWAYS ON" OR A KEYED SWITCH LIKE OTHER VEHICLES WHERE THE AIRBAG CAN BE SWITCHED OFF IF REQUIRED. THIS ISSUE MAY CAUSE AS MANY DEATHS AND OR INJURIES AS THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL WHICH WAS IMPLEMENTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND FORCE GM TO FIX THIS KNOWN DEFECT?
SOLSTICE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR. THIS IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING PROCESS EVER. FINALLY GM HAS ADMITTED THE PROBLEM THAT THE PASSENGER SENSOR CAN GO BAD. I PAID OVER $800 TO HAVE IT FIXED TWO YEARS AGO. SOLD THE CAR AFTER IT WAS FIXED AND I CANNOT GET REIMBURSED UNTIL THEY COME UP WITH A RESOLUTION? I REALLY AM NOT CONCERNED WITH A RESOLUTION ANY LONGER I JUST WANT TO BE REIMBURSED BUT HERE I SIT WITH GM PLAYING WITH MY $800. NOT A BIG SUM OF MONEY TO THEM BUT A IT CERTAINLY IS TO ME.
