THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULE STOPPED WORKING IN MY 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THERE'S ONLY ABOUT 80,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME ITS NOT A RECALL ITEM OR COVERED REPAIR ITEM. COST TO REPLACE $1,000.00. I CALLED GM/PONTIAC AND TOLD THEM THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL/COVERED SAFETY REPAIR ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS EXACT ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER REPAIRS OR OFFER DISCOUNT FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE PARKED FOR OVER A YEAR. IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION UNTIL THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS REPLACED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURE NOT THE CONSUMER. I'M STILL PAYING FOR A CAR I CAN'T DRIVE.... (DATE SELECTED IS APPROXIMATE)
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP FLASHED INDICATING TO SERVICE THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BRAKE FAILURE CAR IS GARAGED AND NOT DRIVEN IN THE WINTER. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 4 WEEKS AT THE TIME AND WHEN FIRST DRIVEN THE BRAKES WERE MUCH WEAKER THAN NORMAL AND PULLED THE CAR SEVERELY TO THE RIGHT. CAR WAS DRIVEN FOR ONE MILE WITH NO CHANGE. I INSPECTED THE BRAKE ROTORS AND FOUND LEFT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING(COLD ROTORS), RIGHT FRONT AND LEFT REAR ROTORS WERE HOT. TWO DAYS LATER WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE TO CHECK AGAIN, THERE WERE NO BRAKES. PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND CAR WAS STOPPED USING EMERGENCY BRAKE. BRAKE FLUID WAS CHECKED AND THE LEVEL WAS NORMAL AND THE FLUID WAS CLEAN. I PULLED INTO STREET TO TEST FURTHER AND AFTER TRAVELING 30-50 FEET THE BRAKES BEGAN TO WORK, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS HARD AND BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. SAME DAY I VISITED THE DEALER, POAGE CHEVROLET IN WENTZVILLE, MO. SERVICE MANAGER AND HIS ASSOCIATE HAD NO IDEAS ON THE CAUSE OTHER THAN TO SAY "SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WAS STUCK AND NOW IT'S NOT STUCK ANYMORE". ONLY SUGGESTION WAS TO REPLACE THE BRAKE FLUID. DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANY DIAGNOSTICS IF THE PROBLEM WASN'T PRESENT. I ASKED AND THE DEALER CHECKED AND SAID NO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS EXISTED ON THIS KIND OF ISSUE. I DID SEE A TSB ON SATURN SKY(SISTER CAR TO THE SOLSTICE) FOR BRAKE ISSUE FOR MODEL YEAR 2008. NOW I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN TRUST THE BRAKES TO WORK WHEN NEEDED. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN TWICE SINCE WITH NO BRAKE PROBLEMS. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE INOPERABLE WARNING LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON . I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH MOST PONTIAC SOLSTICES. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL REQUIRING THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT TO BE FIXED? I'M SURE GM HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS SINCE 2006 , BUT HAVE DECIDED TO SETTLE LAW SUITS RATHER THAN RECALL CARS TO FIX THE PROBLEMATIC SENSORS WITH RELIABLE SENSORS. IT SEEMS THE GOVERNMENT IS ALSO WILLING TO GO ALONG WITH WITH THEIR DECISION. *TR
SAME PROBLEM AS STATED BY MANY SOLSTICE CUSTOMERS...AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FOR PASSENGER SIDE IS CONSTANTLY ON...CERTIFIED DEALER SAYS PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE...THIS IS A SEVERE LIABILITY ISSUE THAT CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH...GM SHOULD ANNOUNCE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL TO HAVE THIS DEFECT REPAIRED BEFORE INJURY OR DEATH IS CAUSED BY THEIR NEGLIGENCE...LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

ON NOV 2014 I BOUGHT THIS PONTIAC ROADSTER FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHTS ON WITH A MERE 32500 MILES ON IT, I DROVE THE CAR 1 MONTH & PARKED IT FOR THE WINTER, LAST WEEK 3-30-2015 I TOOK IT TO MY SHOP TO HAVE THE AIR BAG LITE CODE SCANNED & IT READ FAULTY SEAT REAR SEAT BELT MODULE GM PART # 15874981-15838918 & WOULD NOT CLEAR, I CALLED GM TO FIND OUT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL & IT WAS OVER A 800 $ FIX, I WAS SHOCKED ! I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET ONLY TO FIND ALOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM THE 3 YEARS IN SERVICE ON THE SOLSTICE & SKY'S ALL SAYING THE SAME THING, FAULTY AIR BAG PASSENGER SEAT MODULE, THIS IS A GM PROBLEM THAT IS TOTALLY UNSAFE CAR TO DRIVE, IT NEEDS RECALLED ASAP AS I UNDERSTAND I HAVE NO AIR BAGS & NO SEAT BELT TENSIONER ALSO , IM SCARED OF THIS CAR & I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX IT, THERE GOTTA BE A WAY GM CAN FIX THIS SO AT LEAST I CAN HAVE AIR BAGS & SEAT BELT TENSION TO THE DRIVER AT THE VERY LEAST, MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IN THIS CAR WITH ME, I REFUSE TO SELL THIS CAR UNTIL ITS FIXED & SAFE , IF GM WILL NOT FIX THIS I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM, THEY ONLY MADE THIS CAR 3 YEARS & THEY NEED ALL THE SAFETY FEATURES IT CAN HAVE UP & RUNNING PROPERLY, HOW DARE GM NOT TO FIX THIS CAR IN NOV WITH THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH & NOT FIX THIS AIR BAG SAFETY FEATURE WHILE IT WAS IN THE GM SHOP, ALSO AM I CORRECT THAT THE SEAT BELT TENSIONERS UPON IMPACT WILL NOT WORK W/O THE AIR BAGS WORKING ? THE AIR BAG SENSOR IN MY VEHICLE FAILED SHORTLY AFTER ITS 'BUMPER-TO-BUMPER' WARRANTY EXPIRED. ANY PASSENGER IN THE CAR FACES ADDED RISK IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OWNER'S COST TO FIX THIS ITEM IS PROHIBITIVE ($500 - $800), AND THAT THE EARLY FAILURE OF THIS PART IS SOMEWHAT COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR
AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED VERY SHORTLY AFTER HAVING THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL COMPLETED. *TR
THE AIRBAG SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS STOPPED WORKING. APPARENTLY THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OWNERS OF THE PONTIAC SOLSTICE IN WHICH THE PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTION MODULE HAS STOPPED WORKING AND MAKES THE AIRBAGS NOT FUNCTION. *TR
AIR BAG MODULE WENT OUT. I HAVE HEARD THIS IS HAPPENING TOO FREQUENTLY IN THESE CARS. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGER. REPAIR IS OVER $800. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR IS NO LONGER WORKING. THE SERVICE AIRBAG INDICATOR IS ILLUMINATED. THIS CAUSES THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL AND NEITHER AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IN A CRASH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED BEFORE ANYONE LOSSES A LIFE DUE TO AIRBAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! *TR
SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AFTER DEALER RECALL REPAIR TO IGNITION. TAKEN TO JOYCE KOONS GM. PAID $54.00 FOR DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH SHOWED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR MODULE NEEDED REPLACED. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR WAS $779.00 PLUS TAX. DID NOT REPAIR DUE TO COST. INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS MANY, MANY OF THE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND NEEDS RECALLED. IT COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME, THUS DISABLING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, AND MANY SUCH AS MINE HAVE ALREADY FAILED. *TR
PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR WAS REPLACED AS CAR WAS REPORTING "SERVICE AIRBAGS". NOW PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR DOES NOT RELIABLY DETECT AN ADULT IN PASSENGER SEAT. SOMETIMES IT NEVER DETECTS PASSENGER. SOMETIMES IT DETECTS A PASSENGER, THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES DOES NOT DETECT PASSENGER. SOMETIMES IT DETECTS A PASSENGER WELL. PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR IS UNRELIABLE. MAY NOT WORK WHEN NEEDED. *TR
VEHICLE DISPLAY INDICATES SERVICE AIRBAGS. AIRBAG INDICATOR TURNS RED AS WELL TO INDICATE A AIRBAG PROBLEM. CAUSE OF ISSUE IS A BAD PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. A COSTLY ITEM TO REPAIR. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE VERY COMMON WITH PONTIAC SOLSTICE AND SATURN SKY CARS. OWNERS MANUAL SUGGEST THAT WHEN THE SERVICE AIR BAG FAULT IS INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK. THIS IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY PROBLEM. SHOULD SOMEONE HAVE A COLLISION BEFORE THEY CAN GET THIS FIXED GREATER INJURY COULD HAPPEN. SUGGEST THAT MANUFACTURER ADDRESS THE RELIABILITY ISSUE OF THESE SENSORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO LOCK. ALSO THE DOOR CHIMES FAILED TO ALERT WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E021000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT A LARGE PORTION OF SATURN SKYS AND PONTIAC SOLSTICES SHARE AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. SINCE SO MANY OTHER SOLSTICE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME MALFUNCTION, I FEEL GM SHOULD CONSIDER THIS FOR RECALL BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED AS A RESULT OF THEIR FAULTY AIRBAG SENSORS. *TR

2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE. COUNSEL REPRESENTING CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH PARTS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE TO COMPLETE RECALL. *SMD
VEHICLE WAS IN DEALERSHIP FOR IGNITION SWITCH RECALL WORK (RECALL 14063 AND 14113). WHEN VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK, THE VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES START, AND SOMETIMES NOT. I START WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN GEAR, CLUTCH DEPRESSED. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE ANY IMPACT ON THE ISSUE, WHICH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPORTED WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE HALL EFFECT DEVICES IN THE KEY HEAD. I AM AN EX GM ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - I UNDERSTAND NEUTRAL SAFETY. THIS IS NOT A CLUTCH/TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY ISSUE, THIS IS A KEY SWITCH FAILURE TO ENGAGE CRANK ISSUE. THE OLD IGNITION SWITCH ALWAYS STARTED IN THIS CRANK CONFIGURATION. AT THIS TIME, I HAVE MY VEHICLE AT HOME, AND BOTH RECALL KEYS HAVE DEMONSTRATED A REFUSAL TO START THE CAR AT TIMES. TURN THE KEY, NO CRANK. GREAT, IF I DUMP THE CLUTCH AND STALL THE VEHICLE, I MAY BE IN A ROAD CONDITION THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND BE UNABLE TO START MY CAR. IT "COULD" BE A WALK HOME FAILURE PER THE TECHNICIANS COMMENTS IF I UNDERSTOOD HIM CORRECTLY. IN RETURNING "ONE" OF THE "TWO" SUPPLIED KEYS SO THEY COULD ORDER REPLACEMENTS, THE COMMENT WAS MADE THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE WITH HALL KEY HEADS BEFORE. EXCUSE ME, I WOULD THINK A "NO START" CONDITION IS A RECALL CONDITION -- YOU CAN GET SOMEONE HURT IN TRAFFIC. I WOULD ALSO THINK ALL KEY HEAD SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR PERFORMANCE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION IN SERVICE. HOW MANY OF THE RECALLED "FIXED" VEHICLES HAVE THESE UNSAFE KEYS IN CUSTOMERS HANDS? I CHALLENGE THIS SOLUTION AS A "FIX", AND QUESTION THE RECALL SOLUTION. *TR
AT 33800 MILES , THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND INDICATED AN OFF CONDITION FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT EVEN WITH AN ADULT PASSENGER SEATED. I CONSIDER THIS AS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, THE PASSENGER WOULD HAVE NO AIRBAG PROTECTION. THE SENSOR REPLACEMENT IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG REMAINS OFF. MANY SOLSTICE OWNER HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BY GM TO FIX THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. UPDATED 09/24/14. *JB UPDATED 10/22/14. *JB

PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR FAILED. DEALER QUOTED COST TO REPAIR IS NEARLY 10% OF WHAT VEHICLE IS WORTH.
NOTICED "SERVICE AIRBAG" MESSAGE AS WELL AS RED AIRBAG LIGHT ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING. TRIED TO CLEAR THE INFORMATION AND IT CAME RIGHT BACK ON. HAS REMAINED ON AT ANY TIME THE CAR IS RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY FOR ONE WEEK NOW. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG OTHER SOLSTICE OWNERS. IT IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY ISSUE. ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS SEEM TO STATE THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH WELL UNDER 100,000 MILES. THE PRICE TO FIX APPEARS TO BE ANYWHERE FROM 400.00 TO 800.00. ADD TO THAT THE DECLINING VALUE OF OUR CARS, DUE TO RECALLS AND OTHER SAFETY ISSUES, I FEEL GM SHOULD ISSUE THIS RECALL AS WELL. THIS SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD MUST BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS FATALLY INJURED DUE TO A FAULTY AIRBAG SYSTEM THAT GM IS CLEARLY AWARE OF. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE 2006 PONTIAC SOLSTICE APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO AND FOR THE PAST YEAR HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT FAILS INSPECTION IN MASSACHUSETTS FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR, I HAVE SPOKEN WITH GM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT AT THIS POINT ARE NOT BEING MADE TO CORRECT IT. HOW CAN THAT BE ALLOWED. WE ENJOYED THE CAR VERY MUCH WHEN WE COULD DRIVE IT BUT JUST TAKING UP SPACE IN THE GARAGE IS NOT WHAT WE PURCHASED THE CAR FOR. WE HAVE REPLACED THE AIR BAG SENSOR NOW TWICE AND CURRENTLY THE CAR IS AT THE GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOW TO HAVE THE AIR BAG SENSOR REPLACED YET AGAIN, IS GM EVER GOING TO STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THIS? *TR

GM DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM A CHRONIC, HOWEVER, NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN LISTED ON WEBSITES.
