I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. NOTHING HIT ME. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND NO ONE WAS HURT OTHER THAN THE IMPACT TO MY CHEST AND HANDS. *TR
SINCE PURCHASING IN 09/2013 DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW HAS BEEN GRINDING WHEN LOWERING WITH POWER WINDOW SWITCH. DID NOT SEEM TO BE HUNG RIGHT INSIDE THE DOOR BUT ALWAYS COMPLETED SEAL WHEN CLOSING. SOUNDED LIKE A PIECE OF PLASTIC WAS CAUGHT BETWEEN THE GLASS AND DOOR. TOOK APART, DID NOT SEE ANY THING. 01/2015, WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN THE FINAL 2 INCHES. FIGURED IT WAS DUE TO COLD WEATHER. 02/2015 AFTER PARKING IN DRIVEWAY WITH WINDOW DOWN, WENT TO OPEN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO GET OUT OF CAR. DOOR WAS STUCK. SHUT DOOR, APPLIED NORMAL (MINIMAL) FORCE TO THE DOOR IN THE AREA OF THE DOOR HANDLE (WAS NOT PRESSING ON GLASS) AND DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED, LEAVING GLASS INSIDE THE DOOR AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. *JS

LETTER ALSO STATES I CAN CALL MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY FOR SERVICE, WHICH I DID. LOCAL DEALERSHIP HERE IN HAWAII ADVISES THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS RECALL #14735, DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS, DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL HAVE THE PARTS AND PUT ME ON AN INDEFINITE WAIT LIST. BASICALLY THE LETTER FROM GM APPEARS TO COVER THEM FROM LIABILITY BUT IT REALITY NO ONE IS SERVICING MY CAR! *TR

2005 PONTIAC VIBE WITH 133000MI HAD THE PCM REPLACED UNDER RECALL #10282 IN OCTOBER 2013. IN JUNE 2014, AT 140000MI, THE CAR STARTED EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE THE RECALL: HARD UPSHIFTS AND STALLING WHILE SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE ENGINE BEGAN CUTTING OUT FOR <1SEC DURING STEADY-STATE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, EVENTUALLY STALLING COMPLETELY FROM 60MPH IN TRAFFIC. THE HARD SHIFTING AND STALLING IS INTERMITTENT, THOUGH MOST COMMON AFTER DRIVING 10MIN OR MORE. WHILE DRIVING AT CONSTANT THROTTLE, THE TACHOMETER DIVES FROM 3K RPM TO UNDER 1K BEFORE THE ENGINE RESTARTS. THIS CAN BE FELT AS A HARSH JOLT WITHIN THE CAR, AND WILL KILL THE CRUISE CONTROL AND RADIO IF EITHER OF THOSE ARE IN USE. *TR

STOPPED AT RED LIGHT WITH A DODGE RAM 1500 IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS REAR ENDED BY A CAR (TOYOTA RAV 4) GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. I DID TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO TRY AND GET INTO THE TURN LANE TO AVOID THE COLLISION BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME. THE CAR REAR ENDED ME AND THEN MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. MY CAR SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK. MY HEAD HIT THE SIDE WINDOW JAM (BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND DOOR) AND THEN MY NOSE AND MOUTH HIT MY STEERING WHEEL. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT BUT STILL MY FACE WAS INJURED AND MY LEFT LEG HIT THE STEERING COLUMN. I DO REMEMBER FEELING A POINT DURING THE COLLISION THAT I FLEW IN THE AIR - HAVING THE FEELING THAT I WAS FLYING. MY SEAT BELT CAUGHT AND I WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE SEAT. MY SEAT WAS NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL EVEN THOUGH I WAS REAR ENDED AND THEN PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I SUSTAINED A BROKEN NOSE WHICH IS BROKE ON BOTH SIDES FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL I BELIEVE. I ALSO ENDED UP SPLITTING MY EYE IN TWO PLACES WHEN I HIT THE BORDER BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND DOOR. I ALSO ENDED UP HITTING MY LEG ON THE STEERING COLUMN WITH MAJOR BRUISING. THE IMPACT WITH THE STEERING ALSO CAUSED MY TEETH TO GO THROUGH MY TOP LIP AND BROKE NUMEROUS TEETH. I FEEL LIKE I WOULD NOT HAVE SUSTAINED SUCH SERIOUS INJURIES IF MY AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED. *TR
TAKATA RECALL THIS RECALL HAS BEEN OPEN FOR OVER 1.5 YEARS AND THERE STILL IS NOT A REMEDY FOR MY CAR. I CONTACTED PONTIAC TWICE (REF # 71-1508944596) AND THEY HAVE BEEN NO HELP GETTING MY AIR BAG ISSUE RESOLVED. I JUST WANT MY CAR FIXED!

CAR WAS PARKED ALL DAY. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR I STARTED IT, ROLLED DOWN THE FRONT (POWER) WINDOWS, LEFT IT IN PARK TO RETRIEVE SOMETHING OUTSIDE THE CAR FOR 5 MINUTES. RETURNED AND THE INSIDE DRIVER DOOR WAS IN FLAMES. *TT

NO WARNING LIGHTS - NO PROBLEMS WITH CAR - MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION - VERY LOUD NOISE AND CAR FROZE. TOWED TO DEALER - QUOTED $4800.00 TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO DEALER. CALLED GM WHO AGREED TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT FAIL WITH A WELL MAINTAINED - LOW MILEAGE VIBE BUT SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO OTHER THAN "SUPPORT THE DEALER'S DECISIONS." I EXPECTED THIS CAR TO LAST FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS. THE TRADE IN PRICE IS NOT MUCH MORE THAN THIS REPAIR PRICE. DRIVER WAS ON THEIR WAY TO THE HIGHWAY AND IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED A FEW MILES BEYOND WHERE IT DID THERE COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL CONSEQUENCES. MY GIRL'S VEHICLE STOPPED ON IT'S OWN SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO WARNING, BUT LATER WOULD RESTART. THE ENGINE JUST KEPT STOPPING SHE WOULD SAY IN VARIOUS TURNS, BUT WITH JIGGLING THE KEY IT WOULD START BACK UP.THE LAST TIME WHILE TURNING LEFT AT A LIGHT THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE VEHICLE JUST MADE IT COASTING THRU THE INTERSECTION. I NOTICED THE KEY CHAIN WAS OVERLOADED WITH MACE, MINI BASEBALL TIGERS BAT, 15 KEYS, PICTURES ETC. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE MUST BE LOCKED AND WE NEED TO SCRAP THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO FIRE UP. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT SOMETIMES MADE CONTACT. I JUST GOT A 4TH NOTICE THAT THE 4TH SET OF AIRBAGS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE CAR IS CRUSHED NOW, BUT IT SEEMS PRETTY LOGICAL THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY. I BOUGHT HER A NEW CAR BECAUSE IT KEPT DYING IN TURNS. I DID NOT PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER UNTIL AFTER THE PUBLICITY. THE SCOPE OF THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO THE 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE CAR JUST STARTED TO SLOW DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. I PULLED OVER SAFELY AND WAITED FOR TOW SERVICE BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT START. OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS I REPEATEDLY TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL THAT WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE FAILED, AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE HARSHLY. WHEN THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER, ABOUT THE VEHICLE BEING REPAIRED, SHE WAS INFORMED ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED A CODE OF P0440 AND P0441, WERE RELATED TO THE PCM, WHICH HE BELIEVED WAS THE FUEL PUMP CAUSING THE READINGS. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN, AND THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED IT WAS THE SAME CODES. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, THE PCM WAS REPROGRAMMED, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY DURING MODERATE TRAFFIC MY 2005 PONTIAC VIBE COMPLETELY STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER BARELY MAKING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW ME TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD WENT ONLINE WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE THAT CAUSED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS I HAD. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE VIN AND ORDERED THE RECALL ITEM. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED ME AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD INSTALLED THE NEW CONTROL MODULE AND THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT START AND THEY WOULD NEED TO DIG FURTHER TO FIND THE CAUSE. AFTER DIGGING MORE INTO IT THEY CALLED THE NEXT DAY (DAY 3) AND TOLD ME THAT THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT WAS BROKEN AND RECOMMENDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF SLUDGE AND UNKNOWN FACTORS WITH THE CURRENT ENGINE. THE ESTIMATE OF REPAIR WAS $6100. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT HE COULD LOOK AND SEE IF THE CAMSHAFT COULD BE REPLACED OR IF THE ENGINE DID INDEED NEED REPLACED. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC (DAY 4) WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS GIVEN A BROKEN BOLT THAT THE MECHANIC SAID HAD BEEN THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IT HAD GOTTEN LODGED IN A WAY THAT CAUSED THE CAMSHAFT TO BREAK., SOMETHING HE HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. WHEN I GOT IT TO MY MECHANIC HE SAID THE SAME THING, "THAT BOLT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BROKEN AND CAUSED THE CAMSHAFT TO JAM. I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS." WHEN I ASK WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE BOLT TO BREAK HE SAID "MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THAT'S IT, NOTHING ELSE WOULD CAUSE A BOLT IN THAT POSITION TO EVER BREAK". HE ACQUIRED A REFURBISHED ENGINE WITH ABOUT 30K MILES ON IT AND REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE (THE CAM/BOLT HAD DAMAGED THE VALVES) FOR ABOUT $2600 AND IT RUNS FANTASTIC. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED I COULD GET THROUGH TRAFFIC AND MAKE IT TO THE SIDE WITHOUT GETTING HIT OR CAUSING MORE OF A TRAFFIC JAM. *TR
THE 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 103000 MILES. LIKELY CAUSE WAS FAILURE OF AN OUTPUT SHAFT BEARING. SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE BEGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 90000 MILES, WHICH INCLUDED A VIBRATION IN THE SHIFTER HANDLE AND SLIGHT BUZZING NOISE. THE NOISE PROGRESSIVELY GOT LOUDER AND MORE FREQUENT UNTIL I HAD IT REPLACED AT 103000 MILES. HAD I NOT NOTICED THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE, THE BEARING MAY HAVE FAILED WHILE DRIVING, WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO LOCK UP. *TR

BROUGHT MY 2005 VIBE INTO A GM DEALERSHIP DUE TO PAINT BUBBLES ON THE HOOD. LEARNED IT WAS FROM MY HOOD RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THE METAL LATCH ON THE INSIDE OF THE HOOD IS RUSTING OUT AND GM REFUSES TO REPLACE IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN SEEN ON OTHER GM MODELS AND GM IS NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR THE FIX. THEY ARE REQUIRING THEIR CONSUMERS PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX A POTENTIALLY LARGE SAFETY ISSUE.
