2005 PONTIAC VIBE. CONSUMER WRITES IN TO EXPRESS DISCONTENT WITH RECALL REPAIR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HER VEHICLE WAS RUNNING PERFECT BEFORE SHE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO HER, IT WAS IDLING BADLY. THE NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND UPON DIAGNOSIS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE RECALL PART THAT WAS INSTALLED WAS FAULTY. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE INSTEAD OF THE ECM AS STATED IN THE RECALL. AFTER REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUTTER AND SHAKE ABNORMALLY AND OFTEN TIMES, WOULD STALL WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD MAKE ONE REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL AND ANY FURTHER REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THAT THE INITIAL REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WAS NOT THE REPAIR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000. CONSUMER STATES THAT AFTER A NEW POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WAS INSTALLED PER THE RECALL, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHIFT VERY HARD AND CONSUMER STATES HEARING A HIGH PITCHED WHINING SOUND WHEN SHE ACCELERATED *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PCM WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. *JB

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR RECALL 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,928.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
ENGINE WOULD NOT RETURN TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED WHILE DRIVING. WHEN PLACED IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, ENGINE WOULD IDLE AT APPROXIMATELY 4000 RPM. ENGINE SPEED IN GEAR WAS APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM AT A FULL STOP. THE ACCELERATOR APPEARED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY OTHER THAN THE HIGH IDLE ISSUE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS CHECKED FOR OBSTRUCTIONS, OR ANY OTHER ISSUES THAT WOULD HOLD IT IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION. NONE WERE FOUND, AND THE PEDAL WAS UNABLE TO BE RAISED MORE THAN IT'S RESTING POSITION. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS INSPECTED, AND APPEARED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. WITH THE KEY IN THE "OFF" POSITION, THE THROTTLE PLATE COULD BE MANIPULATED THROUGH IT'S ENTIRE RANGE OF MOTION BY HAND. A GENERIC SCAN TOOL WAS ATTACHED WITH THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION, ENGINE NOT RUNNING. THE VEHICLE SHOWED NO STORED OR PENDING CODES. "ABSOLUTE THROTTLE POSITION" READ 20% WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED, AND WENT UP TO 80% UPON FULLY DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. A THROTTLE LEARN WAS ATTEMPTED. (WITH THE KEY ON/ENGINE OFF, THE ACCELERATOR WAS FULLY DEPRESSED FOR 5S, THEN THE KEY TURNED OFF, THEN THE ACCELERATOR RELEASED.) THE THROTTLE LEARN DID NOT EFFECT THE BEHAVIOR. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS INSPECTED FOR LOOSE WIRING; NONE WAS FOUND. THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WAS LIGHTLY TAPPED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES TOWARD THE CENTERLINE OF THE VEHICLE WITH A FLASHLIGHT. UPON THIS ACTION, "NORMAL" THROTTLE RESPONSE RETURNED. THE SUSPECT ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR IS STILL INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
2005 PONTIAC VIBE PCM FAILURE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING VERY HARD. ENGINE CODE P2716. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS REPORTS WHERE PEOPLE ARE TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, AND AFTER DOING SO THE SYMPTOMS STILL OCCUR. AFTER FINALLY REPLACING THE PCM, THE ISSUES WERE RESOLVED. THAT MEANS $4000 IN WASTED REPAIRS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM WITH CASE 71-902887626. THE CAR ONLY SHIFTS POORLY WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, SO IT SEEMS LOGICAL THAT THE ISSUE IS ELECTRICALLY RELATED. (PCM) SO FAR GM HAS DENIED THAT THE PCM IN THIS CAR IS AFFECTED BY THE "CURRENT" RECALL. A MONKEY CAN PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER IN THIS SITUATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE. THE DIAGNOSTIC DETERMINED THAT THE POWER CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE RE-FLASHED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND STATED THAT HE WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,950.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PCM/ECM COMPUTER SYSTEM SHUT DOWN, LOCKED AND STALLED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART BUT WOULD STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THEY COULD ONLY REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO RECALL 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) IF THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATIVE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT HIS EXPENSE AT THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFERRED HIM TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.
CAR BEGAN ROUGH SHIFTING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TAKEN TO A GM DEALER FOR REPAIR. SYMPTOMS APPEAR TO BE RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN 10V-387 (GM REF NUMBER 10282). INITIALLY, DEALER DENIED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE PROBLEMS DISPLAYED BY THE CAR. AFTER SENDING THE DEALER THE RECALL INFORMATION AND THE INITIAL LETTER SENT TO ME BY GM, DEALER ADMITS THAT THERE IS A RECALL, BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX. THE ONLY SOLUTION OFFERED WAS TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE PROBLEM. DEALER WILL NOT ESCALATE THE ISSUE THROUGH GM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. CODES: PO441 EVAP EMISSIONS PURGE FLOW FAULT P2420 SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE IN COLD WEATHER 35 DEGREES F OR LOWER ENGINE IDLES ERRATICALLY BETWEEN 1500 TO 2000 RPM AND LOSES POWER WHEN ACCELERATING. ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE FOR FIRST 5 MILES OF DRIVING. HEATER/DEFROSTER WORKS POORLY FOR FIRST 5 MILES OF DRIVING. *TR
2005 PONTIAC VIBE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH, AND THEN THE CAR DIED. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND A WRECKER HAD TO BE CALLED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR SOME OF THE TIME BUT IT WOULD START RUNNING ROUGH AND WOULD DIE WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. I HAD READ A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ABOUT A RECALL TO START MID SEPTEMBER ON 2005-2008 VIBES DUE TO A DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. MY CAR SEEMED TO BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. OUR MECHANIC AGREED THIS SEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM. OUR MECHANIC COULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT FOUND RECALL INFO ONLINE AND REFERRED US TO GM. GM SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL INFO. ON THE COMPUTER AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING JUST YET. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP. IT STALLED TWICE GETTING THERE WITH OUR MECHANIC DRIVING SINCE HE HAD BECOME ACCUSTOMED TO DRIVING IT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM THE NEXT DAY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL TRY TO START THE CAR TOMORROW (9/23/10). *TR

AS THE CONTACT ACCELERATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AND THE RPMS WERE FLUCTUATING ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V387000- ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION HOSE WAS REPLACED BY THE MECHANIC. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE AS THE GEARS BEGAN SHIFTING ROUGH AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD COST $700 TO BE REPAIRED SINCE THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. NHTSA RECALL#10V387000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; GM'S SAFETY RECALL#10282 YET HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HER TO CONTACT NHTSA AND FILE A COMPLAINT WHICH HAD NOT GIVEN HER ANY OTHER FAVORABLE RESPONSE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. AND IN ACCORDING TO THE YOUR SAFETY IS AT RISK. IMMIDIATE ACTION REQUIRED. SERIOUS INJURIES OR EVEN DEARTH. IT' SURGENT TO SCHEDULE YOUR FREE RECALL IMMEDITELY. SHE TOOK A PICTURE OF THE LIGHTS, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. WHEN SHE RESTARTED IT, THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ILLUMINATED BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME, THE LIGHT TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ECM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,459. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
THE ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND HARSH SHIFTING RESULTED. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AT A GM DEALER AND FOUND TO HAVE A FAULTY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. GM IS CLAIMING THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. THE CONTACT TRIED TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE BUT THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING. A PASSERBY PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GM DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER DID NOT INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION; THE DIAGNOSIS CAME FROM HOW THE TRANSMISSION SOUNDED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT TRANSMISSION FOR THAT VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER BEING MADE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO FIND A USED TRANSMISSION TO REPLACE THE FAILED ONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CAR IDLED LOW AND HARD SINCE I PURCHASED IT AND DEALERSHIPS KEPT SAYING THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE IT WAS SO RANDOM, THEY COULD NEVER GET IT TO ACT THAT WAY FOR THEM. I WENT ON VACATION RECENTLY, CAME HOME AND WENT TO TURN ON CAR, IT STARTED, I STARTED TO DRIVE AND IT STALLED. LIGHTS STAYED ON, BUT COULD NOT RESTART ENGINE. TOWED IT TO A SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS THE COMPUTER CONTROL SOMETHING OR OTHER AND THAT ONE OF THE SIGNALS TO AN INJECTOR IS NOT MAKING IT. THEY SAID ALL THE HARD IDLING I EXPERIENCED WAS A SIGN THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING ELECTRICALLY WRONG AND THE DEALERSHIPS WERE TELLING ME IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL! THEY ARE REPLACING A WIRE FOR AN INJECTOR AND THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE? RIGHT NOW. I AM NOT SURE OF THE CORRECT NAME FOR THE COMPUTER BRAIN THINGY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, STATING THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY WERE NOT OFFERING ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 PONTIAC VIBE ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET AND IT STALLED. *TR
MY 2005 PONTIAC VIBE STALLED AS I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. I HAD TO HAVE THE EMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPLACED AND HAD TO PAY $571.71 FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STALLING. SEVERAL COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING A WITH THE PCM. HOWEVER, THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 01/28/11
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. HARD SHIFTING. GAS MILEAGE REDUCED EPC SOLENOID BURNED UP AND WAS REPLACED, STILL HAD ENGINE LIGHT ON. HAD COMPUTER FLASHED STILL ON. DRIVING 2005 PONTIAC VIBE AND IN AFTERNOON OF 2/14/2010 SHIFTING BECAME HARD. TOOK TO BE DIAGNOSED AND CODE THAT CAME UP IS P2716; PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID; ELECTRICAL FAULT. TOOK TO HAVE DIAGNOSED AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS, AND SAME CODE ARISES. FOUND OUT WILL HAVE TO REPLACE COMPUTER ON A 5 YR OLD VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS OFF WARRANTY, BUT BEFORE I HAD ANY WORK DONE I CALLED BOTH THE LOCAL PONTIAC DEALER AND GM (11/4/2008-DOCUMENTED). EACH SAID THE SAME THING. THERE WAS NO KNOWN PROBLEM AND NO RECALL. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND PAID OVER $3200 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. I ASKED PONTIAC ABOUT THIS AND THEY STILL DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THIS WAS ALSO THE TIME OF THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE AND GM LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD GO EXTINCT. NOW, IN SEPT. 2010, I GET THE RECALL NOTICE ADMITTING TO THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA DESCRIBED IN 2006. I WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR THE SECOND LETTER BEFORE GOING TO THE DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. THE SECOND LETTER CAME IN FEB 2011 ADVISING ME TO GO TO THE PONTIAC DEALER TO GET THE PCM CHECKED. I DID THAT BUT I ALREADY HAD THE CORRECT PCM FROM THE INITIAL FAILURE IN 2008. THE FAILURE OF THE NOW RECALLED PCM CAUSED EXTREMELY HARSH SHIFTING WHICH CAUSED TRANSMISSION DAMAGE (METAL FILINGS ETC.
