THAT MORNING I WAS DRIVING TO WORK HEADING EAST ON STATE ROAD 56. I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR STUCK TO THE FLOOR. I WAS EXCEEDING 100 MPH AND COULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING HOT!!. THANK GOD THERE WASN'T A SCHOOL BUS PICKING UP CHILDREN AT THAT TIME. I FINALLY DECIDED TO TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCKUP; BUT IT WORKED. *TR
I PULLED ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AFTER STOPPING AT A YIELD SIGN. THE TRUCK REACHED ABOUT 35 MPH AND SUDDENLY IT FELT LIKE SOMETHING WAS HOLDING THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AND WOULDN'T LET IT GO ANY FASTER. I PUSHED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE TRUCK WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN THE TRUCK SEEMED TO BE NORMAL. *TR
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING INTO GARAGE. ENGINE RPM INCREASED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. NOTHING HAPPENED LUCKILY I HAD THE BRAKE APPLIED SO I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING. ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY A COUPLE OF TIMES THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES BY ITSELF MOMENTARILY CAUSING THE TRUCK TO SURGE. *TR
ACCELERATOR PEDAL BROKE OFF, MADE OF PLASTIC, WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS OPTION. THIS BROKEN PEDAL WAS REPLACED BY DEALER ON WARRANTY IN 2013, AND AFTER THE REPAIR THE NEW PEDAL BROKE OFF AGAIN. THIS PART SEEMS DEFECTIVE, IT IS MADE OF THIN HOLLOW PLASTIC THAT BREAKS OFF FROM NORMAL DRIVING PRESSURE, SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO CEMENT STEPS AND THE SIDING OF A BUILDING. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES IN THE NECK AND SHOULDER AREA. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,003.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 ST. THE CONTACT MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO START THE ENGINE BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTED. WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO DRIVE, AND WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRED. THE ENGINE RPMS BEGAN TO INCREASE AND REPEATED PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY A SLOW DELAYED RESPONSE. THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS PUT INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION, THEN THE VEHICLE TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED FEET AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE STALLED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILTY FOR THE TOWING EXPENSE. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF THE SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN A 1,000.
