TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFROSTER FAILED TO DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HADDAD DODGE RAM (3000 HARRIS RD, BAKERSFIELD, CA 93313, (661)-398-0264) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HVAC SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
WHEN TURNING ON TO THE HIGHWAY YOU CAN NOT SEE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE METAL PART OF THE CAB BETWEEN THE PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE REAR WINDOW CREATES A BLIND SPOT. I HAVE ALMOST PULLED IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE 3-4 OR MORE TIMES. VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING OR MAY HAVE BEEN MOVING 1 MPH. VEHICLE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY. UPON STARTING VEHICLE I HEARD SOME TYPE OF GEAR GRINDING/KNOCKING, SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS WHEN I TURN THE KEY OFF TOO. ALONG WITH THIS I NOTICED I HAD NO HEATING CONTROL WHICH KEPT ME FROM DE FOGGING MY WIND SHIELD OR HAVING HEAT IN GENERAL. COULD BE A BIG ISSUE IF THE WINDOWS WERE ICED OVER. HAS HAPPENED RANDOMLY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS AND I HAVE FINALLY DISCONNECTED THE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR LOCATED BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. WILL CONTACT DEALERSHIP. *TR
THE DEFROST ON MY 2010 RAM 1500 P/U IS COVERED UNDER RECALL K-17 THAT REPROGRAMS THE HVAC SOFTWARE AND TESTS THAT ALL THE ACTUATORS WHICH DIRECT HEAT AND AIRFLOW ARE WORKING. I CONTACTED DODGE RECALL AND CONFIRMED THE RECALL # AND APPLICABILITY TO MY TRUCK. I WAS TOLD BY THE RECALL SPECIALIST THAT THE TRUCK HAD THE COMPLETED RECALL BUT THAT IT COULD BE COMPLETED TWICE UNDER THE RECALL. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE TRUCK. I WAS TOLD I HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEAL WHERE THE RECALL WAS ACCOMPLISHED. CHRYSLER COULD NOT TELL ME WHICH DEALER DI THE RECALL, I CONTACTED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS TRYING TO GET THE HVAC ACTUATOR FOR THE DEFROST SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR. I CITED THAT W/O DEFROST DRIVING IS DANGEROUS AND AS FALL IS COMING I WOULD LIKE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I RECEIVED ESTIMATES BETWEEN 1 /12 HRS LABOR TO 7 HRS. I AM CONCERNED THAT CHRYSLER RECALL SPECIALIST PROVIDE FALSE INFORMATION AND CANNOT GET A DEALERSHIP TO COMPLETE RECALL REPAIRS. I ALSO HAVE A REAR PINION NUT RECALL AND RECEIVED THE SAME FEEDBACK TO CALL A DEALERSHIP AND SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND I AM PUSHED OUT 2-3 WEEKS WITHOUT A COMMITMENT THE REPAIR WILL BE NO CHARGE. THIS COMPLAINT IS TO HIGHLIGHT THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RECALL RESOLUTION CAR CUSTOMERS ENDURE, AND THE DECISIONS TO PARK THE VEHICLE OR REPAIR IT, AND FIGHT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE AUTO COMPANIES ARE NOT REQUIRED OR DO NOT RESOLVE RECALLS TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CUSTOMER THE VEHICLE OWNER. IT IS -15 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT TODAY IN WISCONSIN AT NOON. SOMETHING IN THE HVAC SYSTEM QUIT WORKING. THE HEAT WORKS GREAT, BUT WHEN I CHANGE THE SELECTOR FROM FLOOR/VENT/DEFROST NOTHING HAPPENS. THE HEAT ONLY BLOWS ON THE FLOOR. I HEAR A CONSTANT (FLAPPING) NOISE FROM UNDER THE DASH BOARD. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES STARTING AND TURNING OFF THE TRUCK, ADJUSTING THE SELECTOR KNOB TO APPLY THE AIR TO ALL POSITIONS AND IT STILL ONLY BLOWS ON MY FEET. KEEPS ON FLAPPING UNDER THE DASH BOARD. HOW IS IT (SAFE) TO DRIVE WITHOUT HAVING OPERATIONAL WINDSHIELD DEFROST. I LOOKED ONLINE AT SEVERAL FORUMS AND HAVE SEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL REPORT THE PROBLEM AS I AM DOING NOW. ITS GOING TO BE COLD TONIGHT AGAIN SINCE IT WILL BE WINTER AROUND HERE FOR ANOTHER 2-3 MONTHS, SO I HOPE I AM SAFE TILL IT GET FIXED. I TRULY HOPE THIS REPORT GETS FIXED AS THIS IN MY OPINION IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 WITH APPROXIMATELY 32000 MILES THE HVAC ACTUATOR GEARS ON OUR VEHICLE ARE BROKEN. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING FOR 2010 DODGE RAM TRUCKS. HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED AT A DIFFERENT PLANT. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $1000.00 I HAVE A LETTER THAT WAS SENT TO THE AFFECTED OWNERS IT WAS MARKED NOTIFICATION CODE K17 IT IS TITLED: REPROGRAM HVAC CONTROL HEAD AND INSPECT/REPLACE ACTUATORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR DOOR ACTUATOR DID NOT CLOSE. AS A RESULT, HOT AIR ENTERED DURING THE SUMMER AND COLD AIR WAS PRESENT DURING THE WINTER. THE FAILURE PREVENTED THE WINDOWS FROM DEFROSTING, WHICH CAUSED VISIBILITY ISSUES. ROSEVILLE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (2805 LONG LAKE RD, ROSEVILLE, MN 55113, (651) 968-1199) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST LESS THAN $3,000. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN CANADA FOR THE FAILURE, BUT NOT IN THE UNITED STATES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD THE SAME FAILURE REPAIRED BACK IN 2011 AT THE COST OF $2,800. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

HE STATED THAT THE IMPACT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THAT TYPE OF DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 10,000.
