Exhaust manifold failed (warped and broke bolts) for second time since owning my 2012 Ram 1500 causing dangerous exhaust leak that then enters the cabin of the vehicle causing dangerous conditions for the occupants.
Issue is that the exhaust manifold studs/bolts break off in cylinder head(s) on 5.7L Hemi engines causing exhaust leak in engine compartment in which could allow carbon monoxide to be drawn into passenger compartment. I personally replaced all the bolts/ studs along with new gaskets each time. Even once replacing exhaust manifolds only to have this issue continue to happen repeatedly.
Intermittent fault from the TIPM module. When slowing to a stop, or slowing to make a turn, the engine dies without warning resulting in loss of power steering and operability while in traffic. The only indication that the engine has died is the tachometer reads 0 RPM, loss of power steering, and the excelerator becomes inoperable. The radio, headlights, and A/C stay on during this. Coming to a complete stop and putting the truck into park (P) and turning the ignition to OFF and then restarting the truck resolves the problem, but on the highway this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. This has been diagnosed as an intermittent fault derived from a faulty TIPM module and involves multiple RAM 1500, 2500, 3500 owners. Various issues of similar nature reported to dealerships and on forums.
Tipm malfunctions and stalls out vehicle. Will not crank back up and truck fries new Tipm within 5 months and stalls out driving down the road.
While operating the vehicle at highway speed the vehicle shut off causing total loss of power. This happened on a road with speeds at 55 mph. It also occured while pulling into my driveway at a low speed, and i have had 3 occurences of the vehicle power "surging" at varied speeds. I had the fuel pump replaced, which did not remedy the problem. After hearing my fuel pump running with the vehicle shut off, i did some further research and found that the TIPM (toatally integrated power module) is the culprit and has been found to cause several other electrical system issues. Loss of power in a low speed scenario, such as turning left from one roadway to an intersecting road can cause the vehicle to be stranded in the middle of the road and place the stranded vehicle in the line of incoming traffic posing a serious risk for injury or death from a "T-Bone" motor vehicle crash.
The fuel tank strap frame T -slot bracket corroded and the fuel tank fell upon the ground while traveling on roadway . there is a recall for this but it doesn't look like my vehicle was included .
Failure of fuel pump relay on above listed 2012 Ram 1500 at 69,999 miles. Current repair requires replacement of entire TIPM module (at a cost of $1,000 to 2,000) as this relay is soldered to the circuit board deep inside the module, making it nearly impossible to cost effectively replace this critical $10.00 part. Of note, the TIPM installed in this vehicle has 10 slots (9 relays installed and 1 open slots) for "replaceable" relays under the cover. Of these replaceable relays at least 2 (blower motor and park lamp) are less critical with one empty slot available. Further a safety recall was issued in December of 2014 (Safety Recall P54/14V530 Fuel Pump Relay) for 2011 models of the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee, but no other models despite that the same or very similar designed TIPM's are used in virtually all Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles along with many VW models. If this was a SAFETY ISSUE for select 2011 models, why not the other vehicles using the same or similar TIPM's. Further experience has shown that the Chrysler fix tends to have a high failure rate also. Suggestion: Recall all vehicles with TIPM's which have soldered in Relays, for replacement with a re-designed part which allows for all the relays that can be readily replaced. Further consideration in the design of a new part should include the minimization or elimination of multiple points of failure (is a relay really necessary on a circuit?).
The frame rusted at the attachment point for one of the fuel tank support straps. The fuel tank sagged as it was being supported by only one strap.
The contact owns a 2012 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the fuel tank had detached from the vehicle and was left hanging approximately 6 inches from the ground. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the fuel tank straps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
I just received this truck, 2012 RAM 1500, from my uncle. Worked great for a couple of months but then started having issues with the engine stalling and losing power while driving. Then I would have issues getting it to start again. The last time I was stranded was at a friend's house and wasn't able to get it to start again. His cousin that works on cars initially determined it was a fuel pump issue because he could get it to start by spraying ethanol in the engine but wouldn't stay started. Then another friend of his inquired about the truck and he told him the issue. He knew of the known issue with the TIPM in this year/model truck which was a fuel pump relay issue. He was able to clean some contacts and got it to start again which allowed me to get it home. I did some research and it is widely known of this issue with the TIPM. There are even bypass cables you can get for a work around. I do consider this a safety issue since at any time it will stall while driving down the road including once on a highway.
While driving the Vehicle at 9:30pm on 7/22/22 the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own at a very fast rate after I sped up to yield over into another lane coming off the highway. There was luckily no vehicles ahead of me and I was on a straight away or else I would’ve hit someone. I pressed the brakes down but they wouldn’t bring the vehicle to a stop. I placed the transmission in neutral and it slowed down but soon as I put it back in drive it accelerated again. I went through this cycle 4 times then finally I gained control of the vehicle again. I have read online the dealer says it’s user error or floor mats. That was not the case at all. My floor mats are stock and have taps keeping them secure. This situation was very dangerous and if it happens again it could cause serious injury to me or someone else.
Warning light on air bags stays lit will not go out according the other trucks of the same year and make where I worked this light does this on most of them it has been on for over a year
My 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 has 67,700 miles and about 30 days ago developed a "tick" coming from the engine. After doing a google research, it appears that 2012 Dodge Ram's with the 5.7 HEMI can develop a "tick" ranging from failed manifold bolts to camshaft failure. My Ram has always been very well cared for and is a low mile vehicle for its age. I found no factory recall on this issue, so I will take it into a local Dodge dealer for diagnosis and repair.
The contact owns a 2012 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the electronics in the vehicle behaved erratically and the vehicle lost all motive power. After restarting the vehicle, it seemed to return to normal functionality but has since become a regular occurrence. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the TIPM. The contact stated that the TIPM had been replaced three weeks prior. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number 14V530000 (Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, there was a fuel strap failure. There were no warning lights. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who confirmed the failure with the fuel strap. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
Engine ticking heavily and diminishes some when engine warms up. Vehicle dies randomly while driving and loss of power steering and assisted breaking. Almost had an accident while turning a corner and vehicle died.
2012 DODGE RAM. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. The side step detached from the vehicle's driver side of the vehicle while the contact was attempting to enter the vehicle. The bolts that were attaching the component had completely rusted through causing the failure. As a result, the contact sustained a injured knee during their fall. Medical attention was not sought. The dealer was contacted but had not inspected the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed that there was no recall. There was a warranty related repair however the vehicle was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.
I'm currently having the Recall no.18V160000 problem on my 2012 ram 1500 slt 4.7 but since the vin number on my truck doesn't show this recall, the dealer doesn't want to fix it. My truck currently has the front fuel tank strap frame "T-Slot" bracket broken.
Middle gas tank strap frame bracket has corroded. The tank strap has fallen off and the gas tank almost detached.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Ram 5500. The contact stated that the service light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but parts were not ordered. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to another local dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
Engine "tick" - exhaust bolts are broken and according to dealer cylinder head needs to be extracted
Wireless ignition module fails to maintain connection with key fob inserted. Looses power on highway if I hit a bump. Dealer will not address the issue. Door locks are also now not functioning. Am assuming it is the trash TIPM in this 2012 ram 1500 chrysler installed. This whole 2012 ram should be recalled totally unsafe vehicle to have my 5 year old and 5 month old in.
The contact owns a 2012 RAM 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationed at the traffic light and when depressing on the accelerator pedal and the vehicle seized. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the ignition and drove to his residence, but was able to start the ignition. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel pump relay was needing to be removed. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
Both airbag harnesses under the driver and passenger seat had to be replaced because of faulty connections that kept throwing air bag codes on dash display
I went out to start my truck and there was only one headlight working. After replacing the left driver's side bulb multiple times and it still didn't work I had a mechanic look at it and he figured out it was a wiring connector problem.
I took my vehicle in for an oil drip and the mechanic tells me that I have a strap broken and hanging down on my fuel tank. He tells me there is a recall for it. I called the dealership and they tell me there is a recall for some trucks with the same year, make and model but mine is not one of them. I don't understand why my truck is not covered under this recall when it happened to my truck. Safety recall U04/NHTSA18V-160 Frame bracket.
What happened to my 2012 1500 Dodge Ram Pickup truck is exactly what is stated in the U04 Ram recall. This makes me wonder why am I not also listed in the recall. While driving to work I felt a big jolt in the car. I thought initially it was something with the brakes but everything seem ok with the brakes and since I was only a block away from work I kept going and park in my assigned parking lot. Only after work did I notice what had happened. The gas tank towards the front of the car had dropped as the strap had detached. I used the tire jack to push the tank back up and then tied rope around the gas tank to hold it in place. I then drove the truck to the local Tire Discounters who said they could fix the Gas tank strap. Only the next day did I learn that they couldn't do that type of repair because where the strap needed to attach on the frame was completely corroded. Thank God the other strap had not come undone too.
Air BAG LIGHT IS ON
TIPM is sending intermittent signal to fuel pump relay cause truck to stall at highway speeds.
Exiting the freeway the truck vibrated and shut off going 55 mph, no brakes, no power steering going into a curve. I managed to keep it on the road and had it Towed to nearest dealership where they were able to diagnose the problem immediately and I was told that this is a know problem with this truck. $6000 to fix, contacted Ram customer service and a very rude woman put the dealership on the line and berated them for claiming there was an issue while explaining that it is completely normal for an engine to blow at 130k miles regardless of maintenance and as it’s out of warranty they were not responsible. “Normal” for an engine to blow, absolutely ridiculous and someone could have died. There are now 533 cases of this happening and Ram refuses to address it.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the radio was hacked. The safety features became inoperable and the vehicle attempted to crash. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V461000 (Equipment). The manufacturer was notified, but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
I was driving on the expressway and my gas tank dropped in the front, causing the front strap to make contact with my drive shaft. The front of the fuel tank was hanging one inch from the cement. I had to pull to the side of the roadway and have someone bring me a "tie down ratchet strap" to hold the tank in place so I could get off the side of the expressway. Upon inspection the strap "T" end appeared to be fine, but the part on the frame that holds it was totally rotted. My Truck had 58,982 miles on it when this happened. My truck is in excellent condition otherwise. * I had received a recall notice years ago for this issue and then I got a letter a few weeks later from FCA telling me to disregard the notice that my vehicle was not affected. I guess they were wrong!
Shifter slips out of gear unexpectedly at times (eg. drive to neutral) while driving and without cause. Unable to place it in park at times as well. We attempted to fix the problem, but a necessary part (gearshift cable) is discontinued and cannot be located anywhere. The truck is not safe and cannot pass a safety inspection and cannot be repaired.
The contact owns a 2012 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, an abnormal noise could be heard coming from the vehicle without warning. The contact pulled over and discovered that the fuel tank was hanging from underneath the vehicle. The contact was able to strap the fuel tank back to the frame and drove the vehicle home. The contact's husband went underneath the vehicle and discovered that the frame where the fuel tank was attached had corroded, which caused the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,013.
SEEMS LIKE THIS IS NOT NEW, OTHERS THAT OWN THE SAME 1500 MODEL HAVE ISSUES WITH LIFTS AND CAMSHAFT CAUSING A MISS FIRE, P030SOMETHING (MINES IS P0303). THE SPARK PLUS/ FUEL INJECTORS/ AND COIL PACKS HAVE BEEN CHANGED. OUT OF NOWHERE I GET A CODE WHILE DRIVING OUT OF TOWN. THE TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAD A RUNNING TICK TO IT. I HAVE MY VECHILE SERVICED BY DODGE THEMSELVES. THEY NEVER STATED IT WAS AN ISSUE. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE IN HEMI 5.7 ENGINES MANUFACTURED AFTER THE REDESIGNED FROM THE MAGNUM PLATFORM.
THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WITHOUT NOTICE EVEN WHILE DRIVING AND HAS TO BE RESTARTED IN ORDER TO MOVE AGAIN. FOR INSTANCE, I WAS DRIVING ALONG ON OR ABOUT 08/02/2021 AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS DRIVING CAUSING ME TO ALMOST GET REAR ENDED. THE COMPONANT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND FOUND FAULTY. THE OTHER SYMPTOMS ARE PROBLEMS LOCKING DOORS AND OPENING WINDOWS.
THE TRUCK STALLED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 60 MILES PER HOUR ALMOST GOT IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT. NO STEERING OR BRAKES. (COULD BE DEADLY). THIS ALSO HAPPENED AGAIN MAKING A RIGHT TURN THRU AN INTERSECTION. WAS TOLD IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH FUSE BOX TIPM TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE
The contact owns a 2012 RAM 1500. The contact stated after refueling and driving back to the residence, he heard an abnormally loud grinding sound coming from the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle and noticed that the front gas T-rod gas strap bracket slot was corroded and had detached from the vehicle frame. The contact continued driving back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.
Truck won't go into park then it locks. I reset it with the pin stop and it happens again (t-79) ? A week ago it had trouble sticking in reverse
I have had to have the ABS and HCU modules replaced twice. This is a known issue and Fiat Chrysler is only repairing and reimbursing 2017 to 2018 trucks. Both of my repairs were at Dodge dealerships and are documented.
When driving at parking lot speeds on extremely hot days and/or a lot of in town driving, brakes not responding and brake pedal will go to the floor. Have ran a stop sign and came close to rear ending other vehicles at red lights. Dealer replaced rear brakes (Calipers, Rogers & Pads) Problem still exist and is currently back at Dealership. They can't find anything wrong.
Camshaft lobe warn down from, from faulty rocker arm roller (needle bearing) (there is no to very little compression in cylinder 5), apparently engine is lubricated "by splash oil design" and people smarter then me have diagnosed that it is a design flaw.(having to do with the well and the height of the bores that accept the rocker arms) The engine only had 118,000 miles when the engine light came on, resulted in a severe knocking sound and misfiring. I expected a well taken care of motor with regular oil changes would last 200,000 miles. My choices are to rebuild the motor and or replace, both are costly. Thanks for taking the time to read my complaint. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I hear a ticking noise coming from the engine . From doing some research I see that it could be a lifter roller needle bearing failure is often the cause of the Hemi Tick. However, the Hemi also has issue with exhaust manifold leaks, which at times can make it hard to differentiate and diagnose between an internal tick (The "Hemi Tick") and a simple exhaust leak.
2012 RAM 1500 HEMI TICK ISSUE. SUPPOSED TO BE A LIFTER. REPLACED ALL LIFTERS AND NOW MY TRUCK WONT START. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE.
WHEN DRIVING TODAY MY FUEL TANK FELL DOWN BECAUSE THE STRAP PULLED OUT OF THE FRAME. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ON2012 RAM PICKUPS BUT NOT MY VIN NUMBER. WAS WONDERING IF MY TRUCK COULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL
WHEN MOVING VEHICLE AFTER FUELING, TRUCK WAS STOPPED, PUT IN PARK AND DRIVER OPENED THE DOOR TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK UNEXPECTEDLY BEGAN MOVING BACKWARD AND THE DRIVER WAS KNOCKED TO THE GROUND BY THE DOOR. THE DOOR CAUGHT THE DOOR ON THE FUEL PUMP GUARD POST, BENDING THE DOOR BACK BEYOND 90 DEGREES AND BENDING THE HINGE, AND CAUSING IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND FENDER, AND ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO A CAR FUELING AT THE PUMP WHEN IT STRUCK IT. THE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN OR CLOSE PROPERLY.
THE TRUCK SHUTS DOWN WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING, NO CODES COME UP,YOU STILL HAVE RADIO PLAYING AND AIR, ITS LIKE YOU TURNED IT OFF ,IT DOES START BACK, THIS HAPPENS RANDOM, I WAS LUCKY AN ACCIDENT HASN'T OCCURRED YET, I BELIEVE IT'S THE IGNITION SWITCH,I ALSO NOTICED THAT IF YOU TOUCH THE KEY IT WILL SHUT OFF BUT STILL BE IN THE OPERATION MODE
THEIR IS A RECALL ON CHRYSLER VECHICLES 2008 THROUGH 2010 THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE (WIN) MODULE ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY HAVE UNINTENTIONAL MOVEMENT OF THE FREQUENCY OPERATED BUTTON IGNITION KEY (FOBIK) FROM THE 'ON' TO THE 'ACCESSORY' POSITION WHILE DRIVING. THIS COULD CAUSE UNINTENDED ENGINE SHUT OFF AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. INITIALLY MY 2012 DODGE RAM 1500, HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM THE IGNITION (WIN )HAS PLAY IN THE SWITCH , PROBLEM WITH INTERMITTENT START , MECHANIC HAS TO WIGGLE KEY , OR TURN HARD TO START , SAYS WIN NEEDS REPLACING , ONLINE I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A TYPICAL PROBLEM OF THIS YEAR OF DODGE RAM, SEVERAL POSTS OF THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MISFIRE AND SHUDDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 129,000.
