The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Driving on the highway, the car loses steering and gets real stiff then over corrects causing vehicle to swerve. It's a know problen for these years and models of the RAM. It's the EPS that fails intermittenly. They said it's vin specific but I strongly disagree. I have no light stating there is an issue on the dashboard. That seems lie a big safety hazard. System doesn't know there's a problem.
While driving at 50mph power steering went completely out, could not control truck, had I been on a busy street with traffic there would have been an accident. Dealer (over the phone) said this is common with this truck and the electronic power steering system needs to be replaced. Warning light of (Steering wheel/exclamation mark) SERVICE POWER STEERING.
When I start the engine the power steering light comes on. The steering wheel remains very firm and the wheel can not be turned. After approx 10-15 minutes, depending on how long it takes the vehicle to warm up, the power steering light will go out. At this time the vehicle can be driven and the light has not come back on while driving. There was a former recall on this same type of issue in the past involving the EPS. I have filled out this form before and feel that this is huge safety issue and I believe this warrants another recall. There are several forums online discussing others having this same issue. Thanks
Hi, this is regarding your open investigation #RQ23003 so as to add my car to the number of complaints. It happened on 07/20/24 while my wife was on her way back from grocery shopping. On her way out of parking lot, the warning sign showed up and the power steering had failed suddenly. Even though she did not get into an accident, it was very dangerous and nearly impossible for a women to steer out of situation. Currently, the car is immobilized and waiting to be looked at. FYI, this car has only 60000 miles in odometer and immaculately maintained. I hope you look into this issue. Thank you.
While driving and making a left turn, without any warning, the vehicles electrical power steering rack failed and seized. Once loss of power steering, wheel wanted to stay straight and almost caused accident by nearly colliding with another turning vehicle. In order to avoid collision, I turned the wheel as hard as I could, which resulted in needing new steering linkages as they bent trying to steer with the rack motor seized. Car had to be towed to nearest dealership for a $4,400 repair.

When stopping at traffic light steering wheel of 2014 Ram 1500 4 door truck wheel very difficult to turn wheel. Diagnosed at Cutter Dealer in Honolulu, code shows rack and pinion but dealer said no recall on this vehicle.
W58/NHTSA 20V-475 repair failure. Crankshaft tone (reluctor) wheel delamination of magnetic material with loss of crankshaft position. Update to powertrain control module software did not prevent engine stall. Safety recall W58 completed 22 May 2023 (79K miles) with update to the powertrain control module software to maintain engine operation if the signal material is lost. On [XXX] truck had engine stall while in parking lot. I could have had accident endangering self and others if engine stall occurred on highway. Following repeated start attempts and an uncharacteristically long start, a "Service Electronic Throttle Control" message came on. I was able to drive the few miles home. I took truck to dealership for service. Service advisor said following diagnostics, that crankshaft tone wheel needs replacement and not covered by existing recall warranty. I was charged $2635.18 and lost use of vehicle for a week. Invoice states "Found missing segment from tone wheel". We had our vehicle serviced at the Olathe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram service center between the dates of May 26, 2024 through June 27th, 2024 on 3 separate occasions due to following. Received truck back on June 17th with a blown air suspension after confirming that the air suspension was filled firm when brought the truck in due to an email received for a recall and when driving the vehicle, the power steering kicked in due to the battery terminal not being secured properly (confirmed by AAA technician). No vehicle lights were turned on during this. Returned truck on June 25th, 2024, received truck on June 26th, 2024 where diesel gas was spewing from my truck sitting idol in my driveway after driving it straight home from the service center. Returned on June 27th, 2024 at 7:00 AM CST after being told by the Dodge technicians that I should've drove the truck to them and that diesel has a burning point of over 1,000 degrees. They towed my truck to the shop after I refused. Received my truck at 2:30 PM EST the same day for my road trip that had been scheduled for 6 months. On July 6th, 2024, when driving my truck 4 of the 5 lug nuts broke off completely in which the tire flew off of my truck and caused a singular car accident and damage to my vehicle. We could've been seriously injured due to where we were on the road. I had additional injury to my lower back during the accident incident. We had the vehicle inspected by the California local police department as well as the licensed technician who confirmed that this was negligence by the service center who serviced my truck less than 2 weeks prior. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the General Attorney due to not receiving any response from Dodge regarding this matter.
While I was driving my wife and I heard a sound that was similar to a ratchet strap being run over while attached to a vehicle. Once in my drive way I began to inspect what the noise could have been. After looking underneath my truck I could see my GAS TANK hanging at almost a 45 degree angle. I crawled underneath to see what had happened and found that 1 of 2 fuel tank straps had been ripped out of the frame of the truck. It wasn’t until later that I found a 12 year unlimited mile warranty was available. After speaking to a Ram dealer they informed me that ONLY the fuel straps were covered under the warranty and NONE of the damages that occur from their flawed and failed design are covered under that and if I want it covered then I would have to file a claim with my insurance. Keep in mind the fuel strap itself is only 50$ and that is all that will be covered, not the tank itself, fuel neck, gas lines, or any component of the evap system. So because Ram does not want to pay now I have to and I almost paid in full with my life and my wife’s. I encourage others to keep an eye on this so you don’t fall victim to this scam. It’s nice to know that for almost loosing my life and that of my wife Ram will only cover 50$. How much is your life worth?
My steering module sometimes works and sometimes does not. I’ll go from having power steering to steering going completely manually and other times almost locking up. During turns I have almost gone into the ditch if the steering module stopped working mid turn.
The wiring for the headlights is too thin from the factory and often burns out the socket that holds the bulbs.
The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) failed suddenly, causing the steering wheel to become extremely difficult to turn. The truck would not turn easily creating an unsafe vehicle while driving. A warning lamp turned on only when the power steering failed. The vehicle has not been driven or inspected since the power steering has failed. The two part numbers on the EPS housing are #P68230030AC & #TIC0684C4049
I entered the off-ramp slightly turning right from the Interstate when all of a sudden the power steering went out and I heard a dinging sound. The steering wheel jerked left and almost sent me over a 30 ft. drop into a lake. I was very fortunate only to do a 180 degree spin with no damage to my truck.Had I not slowed down more than usual due to the rain I would surely be at the bottom of that lake. After coming to a halt and facing oncoming traffic I found the power steering did’nt work at all and doing a 3 point turn is not happening because I have 33 inch mud tires on my truck so I inched my way back and forth until I was able to get back into moving traffic. On my way home with no power steering, the power steering light is constantly flashing and all of a sudden I hear another ding. The gas gauge on the instrument panel is now reading Empty when I filled up that morning and I have a flashing Fuel Sensor Fail warning. This issue with the Power Steering needs to be recalled/fixed immediately. This is ridiculous to see nothing has been done and is still being investigated 1 year later with all of the complaints specifically regarding the power steering are right in front of you.
EVIC loses power/flickers constantly. Fuse is good.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the "Service Power Steering" message was displayed with the power steering assist feature inoperable. Due to the failure, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle while driving back to the residence. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test was performed. The mechanic discovered that the steering rack and pinion was defective and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered an ongoing investigation NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering) which the contact linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
Complete failure of electric steering. Vehicle towed to garage for repairs
I was on my way to work and all of a sudden I lost all power steering almost causing me to get in a head on collision
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Power steering suddenly went out while driving luckily I wasn't on the freeway or in the middle of turning. I had my young daughters in the truck. Service power steering like came on after I lost all power steering. No recalls but Ram has many complaints for this issue. got quoted as the Ram dealer $3100 for just the parts and another $700 for labor for the rack and pinion. Parts on back order so I will be without my truck for over a week with no other means of transportation. I only have 68,000 miles on this truck. Unbelievable that this isn't a recall and Ram isn't covering it. Someone is gonna get seriously injured. VB9/ NHTSA 19E-007 Electronic Power Steering Gear.
My front ball joints went out own my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 truck recently and had to be replaced the vehicle only had 58, 343 miles at the time. I contacted Chrysler even though the vehicle was not under warranty, because one of there team members said all the could do was try to get me a reimbursement, but I was recently denied. The vehicle also has right arm shifter issues that keep occurring even though I have had it repaired at the Chrysler dealership in Stockton, Ca. I paid around 27,000 for this vehicle in 2019 at Fremont Toyota in Fremont, Ca. The vehicle had supposedly over 21,000 miles own it at purchase.

The contact called the local dealer, who stated that the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 60-70 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact then received a ride to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
Electronic Power Steering failure 67000 miles. Ram dealer has confirmed the steering module is no longer working. No inspection other than dealer. Only warning was on failure.
i was driving down the road and the power steering just went out. No warning at all that this was about to happen. I was VERY lucky I was driving on a straight road. If I was in a turn I would have been off the road without a doubt.
Power steering failed. Luckily it failed while I was driving, had my wife been driving she would not have been able to steer it. Truck is almost impossible to steer with the power assist failed. It is at the dealer now. EPS failure
The ABS/traction control module is constantly throwing warnings. Took vehicle to dealership. ABS module is bad and needs replacing. Dealership states parts are under engineer review and cannot get any replacement parts or know when they will be available. This is not safe to be driving a large vehicle without ABS/traction control safely working
A few months ago my truck displayed ABS, Traction Control and Emergency Brake lights all at once, as well as taking away my cruise control. It is incredibly difficult to keep control of the vehicle in rainy/wet conditions. No accident has happened fortunately but the other day my father had the same exact lights pop up in his truck with the same traction control issues in his 2015 RAM 1500. So today I went to a shop to get it checked out only to find out that the ABS module is bad and apparently it is an issue nationwide. There's a recall coming for younger models but none of the older models? This is a huge issue and the average consumer does not have $2,000 tucked away to get this issue resolved swiftly. ABS is crucial to maintaining safe highways during bad weather conditions and if Chrysler is not held accountable for installing faulty ABS modules then they will continue to release unsafe products and force consumers to spend thousands of dollars on a product that should not have been a problem on a 10 year old vehicle with only 100,000 miles.
The Electric Power Steering failed while I was driving on the highway. I had to drive with a stiff steering wheel all the way home. It was a hazard to me and other drivers on the road. This problem has been reported by multiple other Ram owners. There was a warning signal when the EPS failed.
The electronic power steering went out causing the steering wheel to stiffen. Thankfully, I was on a road without a lot of traffic. The vehicle was bought new, by me in 2014, and has never had any warning lights or symptoms for this issue, until it happened. It happened in May 2024 and has been sitting since, still with the same issue.
Steering was fine, then got very tight while driving. Got home turned off truck and let it sit for a while. When I went to drive it again everything was fine. Now it goes in and out from time to time.
Electonic Power Steering failed. Unable to steer vehicle. After starting vehicle, steering felt locked. Had vehicle towed to independent service center. Initially did not fail with independent service center however, with second attempt by independent service center, it did fail. Therefore, problem is intermittent. Independent service center's diagnostic test found it to be a recall issue, 19E-077, and we were advised to go to dealership. Vehicle was towed to Firkins dealership. Through dealership and multiple calls to FCA and NHTSA claims no recall advisories and no such recall number found. FYI, we have had two other unrelated recalls that the FCA had no record of. Dealership did tell us they have had 7 of these steering issues in the last year. The EPS warning did appear on dashboard.
Driving my 2014 Ram 1500 SLT (approx 95000mi) truck home from work and the electronic power steering just stopped working. Had a very difficult time trying to navigate home on the highway. Upon self inspection I determined the power steering rack went bad from water intrusion because of a faulty rubber boot that you cant readily see with a slit in it. And also blew the fuse mounted to the battery. These steering racks are in short supply for some unkown reason, are difficult to find, and ungoldy expensive. I ordered the new parts and did the install myself to save money but it was still $2200+ for someting that should be an absolute safety issue or recall. The electronics are supposedly coated in a water proofing compound. I returned the junk part to the origin of purchase (Rock Auto) to get my petty $75 core charge back. I am only submitting this because I believe it is an extreme safety hazzard on such an important component of a vehicle. After whole replacement with expensive current revisioned parts I now have a functioning vehicle again.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, and the check engine warning light and the throttle control warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with turbocharger failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The power steering intermittently goes out and locks up the steering wheel. Almost wrecked leaving a gas station had to pull over and disconnect battery terminals to reset it and it finally started back working. Drove home and turned the truck off, when I turned it back on it was locked up again with the error flashing on the cluster. It started doing this May 17, 2024. Haven’t drove vehicle since then.
This vehicle lost power while driving and would not re-start. A message came on dash saying “service electronic throttle” and then the vehicle burst into flames. There is a recall for other models with the same engine but not this vehicle. It is a safety hazard that almost killed me.
Electric steering system
Complete loss of power steering. The vehicle was driven then shut off. When the vehicle was restarted, there was no power steering. The steering is so hard to turn that the truck is not drivable. This would be a serious safety concern if the steering were to stop functioning while driving.
Power steering is intermittently not functioning while driving. There is a open recall for other year Ram 1500's with the exact same power steering module and set up. This needs to be recalled before someone else is killed.
Out of nowhere the power steering has gone out. Trying to start back up and now power steering light is on.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that there was information that the vehicle was losing fuel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, a diagnostic report was not provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Front fuel tank bracket mount has failed at the frame. Front of fuel tank was hanging down below frame of truck. Rear bracket appears to be failing at same rate. Had they both failed at the same time the fuel tank would have fallen off into the roadway endangering others with a large object and 20+ gallons of diesel spilling. Along with the tank laying in the road the vehicle would have stopped running causing me to be immobile in the road leaving potential for a collision from the rear. No warning lamps or symptoms were present at the time. I can provide more detailed pictures when I remove tank to seek alternative repairs
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became very stiff and failed respond as intended. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
Does not start reliably. When driving vehicle sputters and even stalls or complete shut offs while driving. Will loose ability to accelerate and lack power. Taken to 4 different mechanics / 2 of which Dodge Dealerships and no one can find whats wrong. Engine light on.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that occasionally while the vehicle was parked or driving, the service power steering warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was then unable to be operated as designed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and informed contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 21,534.
