On 1.28.2024 my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 R/T lost power steering twice making it nearly impossible to safely steer
The T shaped frame mount where the fuel tank strap hooks to rusted out and the strap pulled through the frame letting the fuel tank drop.
Power steering failed while driving down road. Turn off and back on and it’s fine then went out after like 5 minutes
My steering wheel felt like it was stuck and had to force it left or right to change lanes on the expressway at 75 miles per hour. The electric power steering rack is no longer working and it will not turn the wheels. It is still on the vehicle at this time. I could have lost all steering on the highway causing a collision. It has not been looked at by a dealer or independent shop yet. There were no lights or warnings before the incident however the next time I was going to drive the truck the steering wheel wouldn't move and I got a "Service Power Steering" message on the dash.
The Abs, Traction Control and Brake lights are on. None of the affected systems are working at this time. The vehicle was tested by Chrysler Ram in Peotone, Illinois. they said that the Abs control module was bad and could not be ordered at this time because it is still in product development at FCA.
Exhaust manifolds on 5.7 Litre Hemi’s, bolts that hold exhaust manifold to head break often resulting in exhaust manifold to warp, common issue on various years of 5.7 hemi, the exhaust gases leaking from around the manifold therefore can pass through the firewall, and cabin vent system causing the occupants inside cab to breath dangerous exhaust gases, also resulting in uncontrolled exhaust levels that are not being passed through exhaust system properly equaling higher exhaust emissions. Department of Transportation (DOT) put Tractor Trailers out of service for similar issues due to the health safety risks. This is a common issue with Dodge Hemi 5.7 litre engines of various years and should be a serious issue as breathing carbon monoxide and traces of carbon dioxide are very harmful. Please look into this, the dealership has repaired mine twice with the same faulty parts and now it is bad again and said vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it. Thank you. This is third time first one occurred in 2018 was covered under warranty and only had around 25,000 miles on it.
Our truck kept coming up with check engine, ABS and traction control lights. Come to find out, it is the ABS Module Control that needs to be replaced. In doing research, I have found that there have been numerous complaints on this same issue for years. At what point does it become neglect on Dodge? There have been accidents yet they're continuing to ignore this situation and it's allowed???
Check Engine light came on in Jan, 24. Had it checked and was told ABS modules need to be replaced. Ordered and paid for on Jan 17,24. Then each month I have been told that they are on back order. It is now July and my registration is due but I can not get my sticker until I pass the smog check. But I can not pass the smog check with the check engine light on. I have to pay the registration fee ($295)or I will have to pay a penalty. I have contacted dealer, Mopar, Stellantis and no one seems to know when modules will be ready! Will I have to rent a vehicle soon? I don't know if my 2014 RAM will soon become obsolete if I can't get the parts to make it safe!
Approximately two weeks ago I was driving the truck and exiting off the interstate and at the end of the ramp intended to turn left as I had a green light. As I slowed to safely turn I lost all power steering assistance and ended up jumping the curb and leaving the roadway. Thank God I didn’t hit anyone or damage any property. I was able to fight the steering wheel to make it home. I checked the power steering fluid level and condition of fluid for possible contaminants but found no issue. I remember a recall issued for 2015-2016 Rams for power steering failures. I believe the issue is much wider than initially thought. I have not gotten an estimate on the repairs.

Spoke to dealer, to date, my truck is or has been repaired after an extensive time at the dealership. I was informed that the reporting was done incorrectly and should be updated within the next few months.
The vehicle has a fault in the ABS system that is causing the ABS light to stay on, as well as the traction control light and the Brake light. This means the brakes will lock up, causing the vehicle to slide, the vehicle has no assisted traction control, and the cruise control will not engage. In a vehicle like this (a pick-up truck) the back end is notoriously light and will easily loose traction during emergency braking and without traction control, can easily lose control on wet roads. The part needed to repair this issue, the ABS Module, is unavailable anywhere...and has been for years now. Some can still be found in old junk vehicles, or for sale out of used vehicles, but these have no guarantee and are no safer or less susceptible to failure than the stock product. No to mention they can only be found at exorbitant prices since they are in such high demand on an obviously sub-par part. Why does this part have so many issues and why is it impossible to fix? The vehicle is unsafe without this fix! The tires absolutely slide on wet roads now with loss of steering control and the rear end easily breaks free of traction on wet roads! The vehicle also will not pass inspection anymore because of this issue. This has been a problem for a year at this point.,
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the brakes simultaneously activated, and the rear end of the vehicle fishtailed. The ABS warning light was turning on and off independently. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS had malfunctioned. The contact was informed that the ABS module was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the brake lights remained illuminated. The brake and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the fuel gauge failed to display the correct fuel level, and the cruise control was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the electrical system had failed, but the contact was unaware of what repairs were needed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My wife and I were leaving my daughters house Christmas Day when I started my 2014 Ram pickup and it felt like a locked steering column was locked. Shut it off and restarted it but it didn’t respond. I had it towed the next day to the dealer that services my vehicle and the steering control module shorted out which meant the whole steering system has to be replaced at a cost of $3700.00. Plus 3 weeks to get the part. The only good thing is we weren’t driving when it happened. As it turns out no recalls for what I consider a very dangerous condition with absolutely no prior warning. Researched and found out it’s happened to many others while they were driving, but no deaths so Ram doesn’t consider it recall worthy, so how many consumers have to die or get seriously hurt? It has 26540 miles!
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, there was smoke coming through the A/C vents. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The dealer informed the contact that the ABS module was under engineering review. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was drivable. The contact stated that after driving 5 miles and arriving at the residence, the front brakes seized, causing the wheels to become significantly hot, and the weights on the wheels started to melt and separate. The contact stated that the vehicle was undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Intermittent loss of power steering due to faulty EPS module. Warning in dash says service power steering. When this happens there is no power assist. Unit had been checked and verified that power, ground, and all other wires are i. Good working order. Problem is within EPS module.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The vehicle was hauled to the local dealer; where it was diagnosed that there was rodent damage on the wiring of the steering rack, and the Power Steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,077.
Electronic power steering was intermittently failing, but is now fully inoperable. Steering is hard and the electronic power steering light is flashing on the dash.
The electronic power steering system started to fail on its own. There was no real reason for this problem. There is full power to system and no blown fuses. It is a gamble as to when the system decides when it wants to work.
See attached document for complaint
the electronic power steering intermittently goes out causing the loss of power steering making it hard to steer.
ABS Module failed had to send in to module masters to get repaired. Unbelievablable
Was driving one day while towing a trailer and all of a sudden while making a left turn the power steering went out which caused me to hit an embarkment and damage the front bumper area of my vehicle. My safety was put at risk because of the damage it caused and how difficult the steering became all of a sudden without warning or anything. There weren't any warning prior to the power steering going out, but as soon as it went out a symbol appeared on the dashboard. This was the first time that I have ever seen that symbol. Vehicle hasn't been inspected by anybody other than myself. Checked for recalls and saw that my 2014 wasn't included.

I see there is a recall on some trucks of the same model for fuel tank strap. I looked at mine and notice one of the straps is broken. I can not find the recall for my truck but others have one.
My ABS light has been on and when I took my vehicle to the dealership, they said it requires a part that is on back order for almost a year already. My vehicle suddenly comes out of drive while I’m on the road. It’s scary because one minute I’m going 50 miles an hour and then it just turns off. Other times the car does not register my foot on the break when trying to get it out of park to start it. The Dodge dealership says all of these things are related to a bad ABS module which I have been waiting for since December, and they have no idea when the part will be available. I have been on mini Dutch forums and I see that this is an issue across the country
While driving during a cold spell. Power steering just went out while negotiating a curve. With the sudden loss of power steering vehicle was partially pulled from the roadway. After stopping and regrouping noticed there is red steering wheel warning light on the cluster. In warm weather there is no issue seems. Only happens in colder weather.

rear Exhaust manifold bolts broken off in engine allowing gas into the cabin. Ram dealer wants $1900 to repair.
While idle at a stop light, the emergency brake warning is triggered and immediately after the truck turns off and the shifter locks while on drive. Another code pops up prompting to shift to park but the shifter is locked on drive.
The air suspension system on the truck fails, it will not raise. I’ve replaced almost all the components of the air suspension system and it’s still not working. The system fails in any type of weather but often it does so more in winter. System has been reset multiple times. Compressor has been replaced twice, relay replaced, fuses replaced, lines have been checked, height sensors have been replaced. Looking at online forums, this seems to be an issue with many Dodge Rams of 2014 as well as other years.
While driving on a busy winding surface street, as I was accelerating from a stop at a traffic light, I received an audible notification chime, accompanied by a red power steering warning light, and a message in the message center to "Service Power Steering." My steering wheel immediately became exceptionally difficult/heavy to turn. I was able to overpower the resistance and maintain vehicle control, but needed to drive much slower than posted speed limits and the flow of traffic to maintain directional control. I was able to drive to a safe location and stop. This is the first instance of this occurring in my vehicle. After stopping, I was able to inspect all fuses and electrical connections and verified that they were all in working order. I am grateful that this occurred while I was driving, and not my wife or daughter, and that it did not occur at a high rate of speed. Otherwise, the situation could have turned disastrous. After one day of leaving the vehicle alone, I started it, and the steering worked normally. However, within a few moments, the same indications repeated, including the chime, warning lights, and high resistance to turning the wheel. I am taking the vehicle into a service center within days.
Front suspension bracket where the crossmember is welded to the frame. The weld failed and separated from the frame. Possible metal fatigue. Vehicle was driving in a straight line at low speeds when it became wobbly and unstable driving. Pulled to the right hard and almost caused a wreck. Components separated causing brakes to stop working, damage to oil pan, inner & outer tie rod, spring, shock, bushings, tire, wheel, and body damage. Would have been detrimental and potentially fatal if this happened with speeds higher. Vehicle is not drivable and had to be towed by rollback. Emergency brakes had to be used in order to stop vehicle.
Getting a code for fuel system sensor. After filling the tank, it reads full until around 70 miles and it drops and stays on empty. Have to go strictly by mileage to empty and that is not fool proof.
mild crash! my Ram 1500 pickup trucks can lose power-steering with no warning. I could NOT turn!
I was driving at 45mph, and the steering wheel locked completed it was extremely dangerous and I almost crash. I am wondering if there any recall. Pissed costumer.
This problem first surfaced during the fall of 2023. Starting the vehicle having been parked overnight, the electonic power steering on the Ram 1500 failed. This made steering the vehicle especially difficult. Very hard turning. Difficult to maneuver into tight spaces, turns, and parking spots. A right turn into the right lane is almost impossible due to the exaggerated turn radius required without the EPS. The dashboard does show a red urgency light that looks like a steering wheel with exclamation points on the left and right sides. This was the first time the power steering failed. A couple days later the system returned and functioned normally. However, several times since then, particularly during high humidity, rain, or even after certain snow events, the power steering has failed to operate properly. As of this writing, on May 1, 2025, we have been without benefit of the EPS since December 2024. Even though the days are no longer humid and they are getting warmer, the system has not reverted to full operation. In early 2024 a Dodge sales and service garage gave a quote to replace the entire rack and pinion, stating that there was a computer component on there that needed replacing. Calls to two more repairmen and online Internet searches returned the same general price quotes. Online searches into this problem show that there are many other complaints of the same type of malfunction for the Ram 1500 over the past about six years.
I was driving 60mph and my power steering wheel stop working and a light on dashboard from steering power wheel came on, I could not steer, it was really difficult and dangerous to drive though traffic it was almost impossible to turn the vehicle. I am reading a recall for my car This recall applies to 2013-2019 Ram 1500 trucks equipped with electronic power steering (EPS). Some EPS gear assemblies may have been built with a contaminated circuit card assembly that may short circuit. A short in the control circuit components may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist.
Purchased this vehicle new in 2014- after driving it today for about 20 miles it was parked for about two hours at work when I went to leave I noticed that my power steering wasn't working & a message came up on the dash board "Service Power Steering"- Never experienced this problem before or had any warning that something was wrong. Vehicle was almost impossible to turn, fortunately I was only about six miles from home. Very Scary
Power steering is failing. Only doing it intermittently as of now flashing red steering wheel appears for a minute when it first started and goes away and steering is restored took it to dealer and the parts seem to be not readily available and quoted me 3000+ dollars for parts And $1100 for labor and said the whole power steering rack has to be replaced. Could go out completely soon and dealer part not available or aftermarket
The fuel sensor keeps failing and I have to replace . This is the 3rd one and the dealer and or company knows that it is defective and will not recall. Everytime I get it repaired it costs me 1200.00 because you have to drop fuel tank to get to. The fuel pump and sensor causes the truck not to start and the fuel gauge will not work . Also the straps holding the fuel tank are suspect as well for coming loose and causing fire.
Power steering does not work . Red steering wheel symbol on dash board. scan for codes has code c212a-84 sytem voltage .Code c2217-00 Ekectric poer steering module internal shorted. Code 2128-00 ecu -reset recovery occured. There are no electric power steering rack and pinion unit available part # 68628858aa . I ordered the part from My local dealer network I am # 345 on order list of people waiting expected possible December / January 2024. The replacement part # fits Ram 1500 from 2013 thru 2023 no data for 2024 this is a very big problem I can not drive my truck safety with out power steering .The 2015 model year has a recall for the electric power steering unit this should be expanded . There Are to many parts on order for Ram truck no to know there are problems .THank you
Could not drive back home, it got extremely dangerous when it locked it. my steering wheel does not steer. there are lights on my dashboard. EPS AND ENGINE
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle jerked, and the instrument panel gauges were fluctuating. The vehicle then lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's husband was unable to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Power steering wheel it not working extremely difficult to steer!
