NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The Antilock Brake Module (part # 68228991AD) and Antilock Brake Hydraulic Pump (part # 68196033AA) have failed for no apparent reason. The dealer states there's a national backorder for the module with no delivery date noted. The module controls the anti lock braking system, traction control, and cruise control, which are all safety concerns. The module cannot work without the associated pump. This problem has been confirmed by two dealerships and an independent service center. There were no warnings prior to the failure, which occurred on 10/18/25. The cost of the pump is $1290 from the dealership, which is outrageous. There are remanufactured modules and pumps out there, but they are outrageously priced. I'm thinking about going the remanufactured route to address the safety concerns this causses though.
I'm the 2nd owner in the vehicle I still owe $4,000 on it. I take very and I mean very good care of it even put a new rear-end in it. I was driving it no.lights came on and it started knocking. When I pulled over I popped the hood and was looking it over went to check the oil pulled the diptych out and it had some coming out of it. I jus very disappointed and to come to find out this is a known problem. Just come from a single momma now with out a vehicle I had to have AAA tow it home
In writing complaint against FCA for not fairness for some VINs with Ecodiesel doesn’t include W68. Following with recall W58 vs W68, my VIN was picked for W58, but never pick for W68 because my VIN is not included. Just complete service for crankshaft throttle failure and spent $2000 for this. I am very disappointed that crankshaft failure recalled do not cover because W68 was not included. I think those W58 for computer update failed to prevent break down due to loose magnetic issue. My VIN is suppose to add recall for W68 because FCA missed this. W58 failed to cover the damages with crankshaft which is mean computer doesn’t solve the problem.
Internal Failure with the (ABS) System Module / (EBCM) Electric Brake Control Module.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was running rough. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a seized engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
Front driver side popping at low and higher speeds, can be driving straight or turning both left or right
There is intermittent steering lock, that typically happens at slower speeds and when returning back to center/straight. When it happens, there is also a warning chime that occurs. It just started happening in Sept 2025 and has continued to occur since then.
Warning light for EPS and fuel pressure censor
Courtesy jeep dodge ram on Adamo dr in Florida does not have parts for recalls. They say they are forever back ordered. the ABS Control module which THEY advised is recalled on this vehicle but WILL FORVER BE OUT OF STOCK, so what I’m going to ride around with no ABS? Very upsetting. Paid them 56k for this vehicle originally and they can’t honor recalls. They tell you, just buy a new vehicle. Seems fishy.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost automotive power with the message "Service Electronic Throttle Control" displayed, and the “Electronic Throttle Control System Fault” warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the EGR Cooler was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V757000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
Electric Power Steering Unit suddenly failed upon start-up of vehicle. This truck manufactured in Feb. of 2015 but DID NOT receive NHTSA 16V-167000. The Safety Recall indicates RAM 1500 trucks manufactured from Jan. 22, 2015 to Sept. 13, 2015. This truck is within manufactured recall dates so why isn't it flagged?
I am experiencing ABS issues on my truck. After visiting a local auto parts store to get an OBD scan, the code says it’s a bad ABS module. I called the dealership to share this information and they confirmed the code from the auto parts store is a bad ABS module. They said “oh no, you got that code huh? You’re not the only one.” The reason for my visit was because three lights were illuminated on my dash. The ABS light, the traction control light, and the BRAKE (trailer brake) light. The messages on the dash display say to service the ABS system, service the electronic braking system, and service the trailer brake system. From my research, I have discovered that many people are experiencing this same issue on similar vehicles . So much in fact that the parts for repair are unavailable at the dealership and online warehouses. The cruise control is disabled while experiencing this issue and braking performance is affected while driving. I’m afraid that my brakes will lock up on me in a hard stop event and lead to an incident.
I was resuming speed after a toll, my 2015 Ram Eco Diesel 1500 lost all momentum, threw an alarm to service the Electronic Throttle with a red lightning bolt framed by two red lines, and I limped to the shoulder with several semi close on my tail. After researching I shut off for a minute, removed key, opened door, then restarted. The engine struggled and revved several times before starting. The dealership confirmed the Tone Wheel is cracked in several places and is failing of not fault of mine. She is still there with the parts on order. This is related to already completed recall W58, although should be addressed by W68. I should not be penalized for taking good care of my truck. Thank you for your help getting my vehicle and several related NHTSA complaints addressed under recall W68. *Please see related NHTSA IDs: 11671188, 11655078, 11645531, 11644270, 11619387, 11614931, 11613109, 11593300... so many more. Please have an algorithm review the complaints for similarities to allow for safer highways and driving. Thank you and enjoy your week!
The Starter of the truck seems to have "shorted" and started an electrical fire that burnt the wiring harness leading up to the battery including part of the battery cover. Drove truck on 100 mile trip. Arrived, parked. 2 days later went out to truck to drive home. Turned key, check engine light came on. Service electronic throttle control light came on. Opened hood, smelled burned smell. discovered battery cover and harnessed burned. Disconnected and removed battery. Had truck towed 100miles home. Went to mechanic who traced the burn down to the starter. He replaced the starter and showed me where the fire started. FYI I called the service manager at Berthod Ram in Glenwood Springs Colorado to ask if they would like to see the Starter, left message. THEY DID NOT REPLY.
On Friday, August 15, 2025, while leaving a grocery store, my wife pointed out that a part was hanging under my truck. After checking, I noticed that it was one of the two straps that supports the gas tank. It had dropped 3 inches from its original location and was only supported by one strap (the rear one). I temporarily attached the tank with a strap to secure it. At home, I checked the cause of this damage. I noticed that the area (the spacer on the frame, which has a "T"-shaped notch) where the tank strap is held (the end of the strap is "T"-shaped) is rotten, and the end of the strap has passed through. I didn't check the other attachment, but it could have the same problem because it's the same design. This part of the spacer is welded to the frame tightly and fills with dirt and water, causing corrosion.
Transmission started to slip and not have the power it supposed to have.
Failed ABS Module
The issue started with ABS, Brake, and Traction Control lights coming on intermittently. Leventually they stayed on all the time. Cruise Control is disabled while these lights are on and the ABS system is obviously not working. The dealership stated that it was the ABS control module and states that the part is discontinued and they advised that they didn't have any more parts in stock in addition to quoting around 3k if they could find one at any other locations. All fuses are working properly. And all codes that are pulled indicate ABS system faults.
The contact owns 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after parking another vehicle, the contact exited that vehicle and discovered that the air bag had deployed in this vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was inspected by a technician who provided the contact with the number for the vehicle manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V632000 (AIR BAGS); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was 155,041.
2015 Ram 1500 was driven into the garage and parked. 2 weeks later when restarted, the power steering would not work. Light in dash says Service Power Steering and also the check engine light is on. Have replaced battery, and checked all fuses, which were good. Due to the fact the truck cannot be steered, am unable to take it to a dealer for service.
ABS module is discontinued and no recall has been made to remedy the issue.
Imediately following z46 recall my vehicle lost all motive power on the interstate. No warning lights etc. Dealer who performed recall took no responsibility and explained my engine has seized. My research has determined this.is common when the recall is not.properly.performed. I have documented evidence proving the recall was not performed. Dealer suggested I contact the manufacturer. Manufacturer has not helped and Dealer takes no responsibility. I've been told to replace the engine is 20 to 30 thousand dollars. This.is aproximately.what is still owed on the vehicle. The BBB and the aohio attorney generals office claim they cannot compel anyone to take responsibility. What am I supposed to do? I am a paying client to eveyone.envolved and now I'm supposed to countinue paying for a vehicle that is totaled. The manufacturer recomended I see another dealer. The next 2 closest dealerships refused to get involved saying it was the original servicing dealers and manufacturers problem and they did not want to be involved. Upon asking.the manufacturer who to take it to they claimed they cannot force there dealers to service a vehicle.
Ram 1500 has intermittent power steering loss that snaps the steering wheel back to straight. I almost crashed taking a right turn as the power steering attempted to turn the wheels straight mid-turn. I was able to park the vehicle safely but no lights illuminate on the dash aside from the split-second the system malfunctions. The car does not show a code or anything for the issue and proceeds to show normal dash indicators while stationary except when you attempt to turn the wheel. This is EXTREMELY dangerous as if you do not catch the 0.5 second indicator flash you wouldn't see there is an issue with the power steering system. I believe my truck was impacted by the same issue that affected other 2015 Ram 1500's electric power steering that resulted in a recall. However mine was not included in the recall.
I was driving and my truck lost all steering. I was in the middle of turning and I was unable to steer. I was almost rear ended and broad sided at the same time. Thank God the other drivers were paying attention. I spoke with my mechanic and he said that this was a common issue with my truck and this make and model. So I went online and looked and I have attached a screenshot of what I have found.
I can be driving down the road and the driver seat belt will unhook by its self . An I was pulling a trailer and the tailgate must of came open and I didn’t notice and the trailer jack dented my tailgate.
I was driving my ram 1500 and the steering all of a sudden got really hard to steer. It felt like it locked up on me. Then. It broke free. It kept doing it all the way home.
Power steering fault at highway speed multiple times, difficulty turning wheel. Intermittent and sporadic issue. "Service Power Steering" intermittently shows on dash.
Loss of power steering and simultaneous loss of speedometer readings. If one is down, so is the other. It happens mostly on start (intermittent), but has been known to happen while driving. First time was July 4, then it has happened at least 5 times since.
Power steering fails randomly at low speed leading to emergency corrections and jerking of the wheel which could cause an accident.
The contact's mother owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal felt spongy, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed, causing the braking distance to be extended. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a Collision Center for additional diagnostic tests. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the ABS module had been discontinued. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,700.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was pulling into the driveway, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
I was driving on the highway when my power steering assist stopped functioning and almost caused a major traffic collision. I was able to limp the vehicle to a dodge dealership who informed me that the problem was in fact the EPS module that controls the power steering. Dealership nor Dodge will pay for the issue knowing it is an issue that almost caused a major accident. Made complaint with Mopar and customer service and they said nothing they will do. I find this disheartening that they know this major problem exists and offer no solution or assistance. I see your office still has an open investigation into this issue. Please help me get this fixed as I shouldn't have to put out over 4k to fix a known faulty part. Thank you.
I had a check engine light come on for the ABS and Traction Control. Did research and found Ram no longer manufactures the ABS Module. Now my truck is no longer safe to drive with no avenue to repair.
The electronic power steering component itself is failing. When turning the steering wheel one way the wheel will jerk the opposite direction and be very difficult to turn due to the power steering failing. An indicator light on the instrument panel comes on that states to service the steering control system and then shuts off by itself. This impacts the safety of all those in or around the vehicle when in motion due to steering becoming impossible or next to impossible to control. The vehicle has never been under water nor in the snow to cause any such damage. The problem is continuous and can be reproduced and inspected at any time supporting this claim. The factory has a recall in place for this year model and month range for when this truck was produced but my vin is not showing up as being part of the troubled load. It however does fit all of the criteria outlined by the manufacture and current issued recall.
The concern is a rear end collision. At road speeds, vehicle changed to neutral (popped out of gear). Engine continued to run. Vehicle had to cost to a safe spot. At stop the vehicle was turned completely off and restarted with no issue. This is a repeatable but intermittent issue. This issue has also occurred at stop signs and slow speeds. The engine check light and ABS Light did come on. The following stored codes were present: P0340, P1DD2 and U1424. The following pending codes were present: P1DD2, U017E-70, P0340-30, U1424, U0415. Camshaft Position Sensor was changed; but didn't fix the issue.
Electronic steering rack Start to intermittently lose steering, causing random difficulty steering while in operation.
Failure of power steering system
While driving down the highway suddenly loss of power with MIL light. Pulled over contacted dealer. Codes p200a and p200b. Set up appointment. Delivered vehicle to dealer. Inspection shows excessive soot buildup inside intake. Loss of power on road could cause vehicle accident and/or leave people stranded.
The electronic steering on my truck is failing prematurely and poses a risk to my safety and that of the drivers around me. When I drive it and go to make turns, the power steering will go in and out causing various levels of strength needed to control the vehicle while turning.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering module and rack had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
I am experiencing electric-power-steering problems on my 2015 Ram 1500. Although my truck is outside of Recall S19, I understand Recall VB9 / TSB 19E-077 allows dealers to inspect the eps gear serial number for contamination. I am formally requesting that my vehicle be inspected under this bulletin and that goodwill assistance be provided if the EPS gear is contaminated. Please advise next steps.
Steering stopped working power assistance and it shows it’s a recall concern with your agency. They Deny it’s a recall item this is dangerous. So I started a case number 93065509.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken for the annual State Inspection, the vehicle failed the State Inspection. The contact was informed that the fuel tank strap had excessive corrosion, causing the fuel tank to sag around 4 inches. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel tank strap bracket. The vehicle was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction, and the message "Service Steering" displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 53,000.
While driving, I suddenly heard a loud metal on metal grinding noise. After getting off the road, other drivers stopped to report that there was a large "shower of sparks" coming from beneath my vehicle. Upon further inspection, I found that the forward fuel tank strap frame mount had completely corroded through. This resulted in the tank strap dislodging, and the front end of the fuel tank falling to just a few inches from the road. Meanwhile, the tank pushed the metal fuel strap against the vehicle's main drive shift, grinding away at the drive shaft like a metal lathe and creating the large shower of sparks directly next to the fuel tank. This was a known defect in the 2008 to 2012 models of this same truck that was the subject of recall. However, for my 2015 truck it is merely a "service bulletin" for the identical defect.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the power steering became inoperable. The contact stated that the message to service the power steering was displayed. The contact stated that the check engine, service ESC, power steering failure, and service back over prevention camera warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
On July 2, 2021 my 2015 ecodiesel was given a software flash due to recall W58. This recall deals with the delamination of the tone wheel/CSPS and makes the vehicle rapidly lose acceleration. Instead of being an actual fix, the software simply put a band aid on the issue, by rerouting the tone wheel and sending to a different sensor. On [XXX] it was raining and when I tried to accelerate while in heavy city traffic, the truck lost acceleration rapidly and flashed service electronic throttle control and went into limp mode. I narrowly avoided being in a collision and limped the truck to a medical center parking lot (Koke Mill Medical in Springfield, IL). The truck wouldn't stay running and it wouldn't restart without great difficulty. I was able to limp it to a repair shop (Ruggless Automotive 3417 Constitution Dr, Springfield IL 62711 (217) 787-5484) I have a scanner and I scanned the truck and got code P0336 crankshaft position sensor. Ruggless Automotive ALSO got that code and got code P26AB (yet another recall issue with the EGR cooler recall VB1) Ruggless advised waiting for parts. Talked to Green Dodge about the issues, they didn't want to fix because out of warranty. I contacted FCA/Stellantis. I was given a case [XXX] and told to take to dealership for diagnostics and if diagnostics showed it was to do with the recall issues, that FCA would pay for repairs. Truck was towed BY ME to dealership July 3rd. Green Dodge called me and said they couldn't do any diagnostics because supposedly the battery was dead/bad/unable to be jump started. They tried to make me purchase a new battery from them or else they wouldn't do the diagnostics I need for FCA. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ABS system went out 3 years ago. The truck was still drivable and used extreme caution when doing so. This morning the power steering went out which is directly related to the ABS system. I noticed that a recall was issued for 2017 and beyond models of the Ram, but why not 2015. My truck has less than 100,000 miles and is now completely undriveable because the ABS cant be fixed.
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the EPS circuit control was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 118,000.
Power steering stopped working - understand there is a recall on manufacture years 2015 and newer - mine falls in the date range but my VIN is not a part of the issued recall "S19"
