The HPFP that has an unfixed recall on it went out and caused the engine to grenade itself
I own a 2016 RAM 1500 Tradesman (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle requires a replacement for the ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) module. This is a critical safety component directly tied to braking and safe vehicle operation. The problem is that Stellantis (RAM) is not producing or supplying new replacement ABS modules, and my dealer has informed me that there are currently over 390 modules on backorder nationwide with no estimated date of availability. This situation effectively makes my truck unsafe and unrepairable. I am being forced into an impossible position: either continue driving without a functioning ABS (a major safety risk), park the truck indefinitely, or purchase another vehicle. I believe Stellantis should be required to provide a remedy by manufacturing replacement ABS modules or providing a safe alternative repair. Leaving hundreds of vehicles without access to a functioning ABS system is unacceptable from both a safety and consumer-protection standpoint. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module on this vehicle has failed, causing the following: Complete loss of ABS braking Loss of traction control Inoperable speedometer Warning lights for ABS, brake, and traction systems
The Antilock Braking System module has failed, rendering the ABS system inoperative as well as prohibiting cruise control. The Sulphur Springs Ram Dealership has been very nice, but are telling me that the replacement module is unavailable and has no estimate time of arrival????
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. In addition, the contact connected a portable diagnostic machine to the vehicle and received two fault codes. The codes were P20EE and P016P. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The contact stated that the VIN was included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. The contact attempted to veer to the right or left, and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the steering unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the recall had expired. The vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The approximate failure mileage was 194,000.
My Ram truck ( with extended manufacturer's warranty) has a faulty ABS module which has resulted in not having the ABS safety feature. In addition, this failed module renders speed control inoperative, thus increasing fatigue on long trips. The diagnosis was from July 29, 2025 by a Sulphur Springs dealer [very nice folks]. I have reached out to them several times and was told the part is still on backorder, with no ETA provided. I am hearing that this is a widespread problem, and it seems that we need to bring NHTSA to bear on the manufacturer… ?
the air suspension failed and truck was sitting right on the frame making for hard steering and really bouncing when hitting bumps. the ABS light came on and warnings about air suspension. have had it worked on but problems keep returning. this time it wont go back to normal
Air suspension failed while driving on interstate and nearly caused total loss of control of the vehicle. Truck violently bounces due to failure in air suspension system.
The contact owned a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while making a right turn onto a main road, a passing vehicle crashed into the front driver's side quarter panel of the contact's vehicle. No property damage was reported, the vehicles came to a stop upon impact, and the air bags did not deploy. The speed of the other vehicle at the time of the crash was unknown. The contact's vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact, seated in the driver's seat, and a passenger seated in the front passenger seat were both injured. No one outside the vehicle was reported to be injured. The contact sustained injuries to her face, a broken nose, a hematoma to the left eye and left cheek, and severe headaches accompanied by various bruises across the left arm, and the passenger sustained bruises across their arms. Medical treatment was needed for the injuries. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The engine on this vehicle has failed, it has 51,000 miles on it and involved in a class action lawsuit that closed in 2022. This truck was bought in 2023 with dealership not disclosing all of the failures in the vehicle. It is at a local shop requiring $16,000 worth of engine repair and we are demanding from Dodge to have help with repairs. We had and have a record of regular maintenance completed on this vehicle and is in immaculate condition.
Steering Sensor leading to ABS malfunctioning. Including Instrument dash lights ...Parking Break, Anti Skid, and ABS. Traction control does not work. Cruise does not work....All fuses are good. Cannot clear Dash lights.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was started, the ABS warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was constantly illuminated and while the ABS light was illuminated, the cruise control was inoperable. The contact stated that the part was no longer being manufactured. The contact provided the ABS module part number as, PN: 68295368AA. Additionally, whenever the parking brake was set, the parking brake stayed on constantly. The contact stated that the regular braking system was operational while the vehicle was driven and worked as needed; however, the ABS was no longer available while driving and posed a grave safety risk in the event that the vehicle needed to make an abrupt stop. The contact stated that several Parts Stores and Mopar dealers were contacted; however, the contact was informed that the part was no longer being manufactured. The local Auto Zone also checked the vehicle and confirmed the ABS failure. The local dealer also diagnosed the vehicle with ABS failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
The ABS Control Module failed 7/2025. Brake and other warning lights came on. My mechanic diagnosed as an ABS Control Module failure. After hours of callng dealers and parts stores, it was determined (and confirmed by Ram corporate) that there was LITERALLY ZERO OEM replacement parts in the US! I was informed that "the truck was safe to drive, but you will not have anti-lock brakes". I was stunned at the non-chalant response from RAM corporate that they knew there were no replacement parts available in the US, "but they were working on finding a supplier". So I asked the RAM representative, "so let me get this straight. On this safety critical system, you not only don't have any parts to repair my truck, you don't even have a supplier on contract to build them!" And RAM clearly knew about the failure rate on this part, because I just saw they were in a class-action lawsuit, which I also just saw didn't include the 2016 Ram, but starts with the 2017. This is CRAZY!
My ABS light, Brake light and traction control light come on intermittently. Had it tested and they say that the ABS Module has internal failure. It came up with warning code C2200-49 when tested.
There was no warning light until the steering will lock up and then the light will come on. Which is a life safety hazard because we went into on coming traffic because there was no steering ability. When we turn the truck off the steering will come back. But we lost control of the steering once again. Now the truck has no power steering at all. There is power to the system but continues to fail on the steering system because the light only comes on after the problem. This has happened to well maintained vehicle.. thanks in advance
Truck EPS failed while driving creating a dangerous situation but turck falls outside of NHTSA 16V-167 recall.
I have a abs, E brake and traction control light on I'm my dash. It will not let me use cruise control or any of the 4 wheel drive options. This has been going on now for a month. ABS warning light. Light came on in July 2025. Local repair shops could not fix said there are no parts available. Took truck to Ram dealer in December 2025.They state ABS MODULE is bad along with HCU hydraulic control unit. Followed up 4 times on what the hold up is. They state waiting on parts and keep reponsonding the same. I called the Ram national customer service as directed on 1/22/2026. They said they would get right on the issue. I got a response about 5 days later. They said they are still trying to find the parts. I checked again around February 3rd. Got the same response. I checked several chat rooms about the issue and there were a lot with the same model year. This is a big safety issue as brakes lock up and or it takes longer to stop the Truck. Please look into this matter. Thanks
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
Power steering assist quit working while driving. It appears to be an electrical problem because it works when restarting engine before it goes out again. There are no apparent mechanical issues with it.
I believe my truck should be included in recall s19/nhtsa 16v 167: I turned on my truck , and the EPS warning light came on. The truck lost all power steering. The next day it worked. Then after idling in a parking lot, I tried to drive and the column had a shake. Then the power steering went completely out
The power steering goes out and make it very hard to drive
The service airbag system keeps alerting me. Some vehicles have been recalled but my vehicle has not been recalled and I would like that to be taken care of.
ABS module needs replacing. Part on Backorder for a year, won't be available till July 2026. RAM is offers no alternative. 3rd party vendors are saying the computer chip controlling the module has been discontinued by its maker, and in reality, there are no more new modules being produced. Car has no ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY CONTROL.
In September 2016 I purchased a new RAM 1500 echo diesel. On [XXX], I driving along [XXX] in southern Indiana. I lost all power, smoke started coming thru the dash vents, I get off the road, shut the engine off, raise the hood, a little smoke was coming from under the engine cover, popped it off didn't really see anything burning, I opened the air filter lid and and there was smoke, I blew the smoke out of it and replaced it. I got back in the truck, it started but still had no power. It idled fine. I called and towed it to John Jones Auto Group in Corydon, IN, this was all on [XXX]. I was contacted 30 June 2025 that the Intake Manifold had failed and needed to be replaced. I gave them the go ahead to replace it. They called me and told me it was ready. the following week and told the Intake Manifold failed and needed to be replaced. I gave them go ahead to repair it. They told me the Intake manifold replaced and ready for pick-up. When I went to pick it up, on 22 July 2025. The Tech showed me the intake manifold; it looked like it had melted. He also said the water pump was leaking and should be replaced. I paid for the repair for the intake manifold, left the truck and drove my car home, intending to have someone run me there and I would drive the RAM home. After thinking about a day or 2 I called John Johns and told them to go ahead and replace the water pump and took the key back to them. I didn't want it to fail when I was least expecting it. AT this point I've spent $4,750.20. They called I went and picked the truck up on 23 Jul 25, drove it home (20 miles) on [XXX] I just pulled out of my driveway, check the rearview mirror and saw all this white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I pulled over smelled the fumes it wasn’t diesel fumes, but it smell sweet. I turned around took the RAM back home and drove my car to work. I call John Jones Auto. After the advisor talked to the mechanic he told me it was normal and it was okay to drive INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Brakes. Abs and traction control Brakes can fail Kindle dodge had truck for over a month cannot obtain part Abs and traction control lites appeared on driver information center
Per the dealer the ABS module failed, affecting the antilock brakes, traction control, trailer braking. Component failures causes erratic braking. The vehicle is now subject to longer stops in wet/slippery conditions. The dealer has diagnosed the problem. Chrysler/Ram do not have the ABS modules and they are on national back order. There is no known delivery date. Multiple lights are on in the vehicle. Vehicle has been at the dealer for more than 2 weeks now. The problem was diagnosed July 1, 2025. The needed part couldn't be sourced by the dealer.
I drove through standing water in a parking lot and a few minutes later the steering got funny.the next day it was no power steering, then the steering completely locked up could not turn steering wheel at all.
The ABS module has gone out in the truck. Ram has no replacements available for the part. The part number is 68295368AC
the connecter under Power Distribution Center has melted and has made it so that the blower motor turns on and off at random. This is going to cause a fire if not fix. There is alot of other people online saying they have the same issue and even showing photos of the connecter. if needed i will send a photo of my connecter.
The ABS warning light has appeared and the dealership inspected the vehicle and stated the ABS needs to be replaced. Research shows multiple RAM 1500 trucks from 2016-2019 have had a recall on this system, but as far as I know, no recall was issued on mine. I do not know where to look to view all recalls that were issued on a particular vehicle.
Abs internal system failure. Abs light illuminated, traction control light illuminated, parking brake light illuminated at all times. Is available for inspection. Do not have abs system currently working and is faulty. Spongy braking and am at risk for brake failure at any time. Especially during slick road conditions. It has been confirmed with independent service center and has been inspected by them. No problems prior to the illumination of lights and system failure which occurred June 4th 2025.
2016 Dodge Ram 1500 truck apparently this is a known issue and the module to fix the antilock brake is impossible to get. I have been researching this and I have thus far not only my year make and model truck but other Dodge trucks with the same failure and not able to get the module. The Dodge Dearler in Hayesville NC ordered this part and I call frequently to inquire as to its arrival. this is a safely issue that need to be addressed
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a part hanging down underneath the vehicle. The contact inspected underneath the vehicle and became aware that the fuel tank strap was corroded and had detached. In addition, the fuel tank was partially detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,400.
5 MONTHS SINCE ABS MODULE FAILURE. NO ABS, RENDERING VEHICLE ILLEGAL TO OPERATE. SAME ISSUE WITH NEWER VEHICLES BUT MY YEAR NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NOR ARE THERE PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR ON MY OWN. LAW STATES 10YRS PARTS AVAILABILITY WHICH I BELIEVE IS WHAY THEY ARE HOLDING OUT TO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS MASIVE ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS NEGLIGENCE. SENSITIVE COMPONENT IN AREA PRONE TO WATER AND SO PHYSICAL SEAL PROTECTING PARTS.
We were driving down the interstate and my truck went into limp mode. This almost caused an accident. We were able to get off the road and into a parking lot but the whole truck locked up. The dash started saying "Service Throttle Positioning System" and the gear shift locked into park. The truck got stuck in first gear and I was able to get out of the way before we were rear ended. We had the truck towed to a truck shop and the codes had gone away. They drove it and while they were testing it it did the same thing to them. Based on research this part was on recall on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Eco Diesel for causing this same issue with the crank shaft tone wheel (reluctor wheel) but to this date there has been none on my truck. We are now out $3400 for the repair with Stellantis knowing they have had issues with this part on the other models with the same engine.
RAM has an extended warranty out regarding the front strap for the fuel tank that is known to fail. When the strap failed, the fuel tank dropped causing a gouge in the drive shaft. In addition to the compromised drive shaft, the metal bracket was touching the ground. Should I have been driving during when this failed, the metal could have caused sparks causing the fuel tank to ignite. This problem should be moved from an extended warranty to a recall.
I am having trouble with the electronic power steering. The power steering goes in and out, making it difficult to turn the steering wheel, making myself feel at risk while in traffic. The problem has not been confirmed yet by a dealer for my specific VIN.
Complaint: 2016 Ram 1500 - Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Module Failure Vehicle Information: Make: Ram Model: 1500 Year: 2016 Current Odometer Reading: Approximately 48,000 miles Incident Description: My 2016 Ram 1500 truck has experienced a failure of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module. This failure has resulted in the deactivation of several critical safety systems, including: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Traction Control System Cruise Control Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Consequences of Failure: The complete shutdown of these safety systems, particularly the ABS, poses a significant and immediate safety risk. Without a functional ABS, the vehicle's braking performance is severely compromised, increasing the likelihood of wheel lock-up during sudden braking and significantly elevating the risk of an accident or complete brake failure, especially under adverse road conditions. Dealer Response & Lack of Resolution: I contacted an authorized Ram dealership to address this critical issue. Unfortunately, the dealership informed me that they currently have no replacement parts for the ABS module and have received no guidance or support from Chrysler (Stellantis) regarding a resolution. This lack of parts and technical support leaves me with a vehicle that is, in my opinion, unsafe to operate and susceptible to an accident due to a known, unaddressed safety defect. Request for Action: I am submitting this complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to report this serious safety defect. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this widespread issue and compel Ram/Chrysler to provide an immediate remedy for this ABS module failure, including the availability of necessary replacement parts and a clear repair protocol. The current situation leaves me with a vehicle that has compromised safety features, putting lives at risk.
I have found countless problems with broken bolts on the exhaust manifold on the web. Technical service bulletins have been written involving the problem. It is a known problem and continues.
The electronic power steering rack went out making steering very difficult and upon doing research discovered there is a recall for this exact problem but by the recall doesn't include my VIN number
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the rear wheel seized, causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The contact discovered that the vehicle failed to drive forward while in drive(D). The contact stated that after switching to 4WD, the vehicle was driven off the road and was later towed to the residence. The contact stated that while examining the vehicle, the contact determined that the rear differential had failed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V198000 (POWER TRAIN). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 81,127.
Intermittent steering issues, loss of power steering, hard to steer vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the air filter was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, months later the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was advised that the EGR cooler assembly, intake manifold, NOX sensor, and the exhaust particulate sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 107,000.
Saturday [XXX], around noon, I was driving my family and my electronic power steering went out. The steering wheel became to stiff during a turn into a voting station, and I almost ran over a curb hitting pedestrians. I turned off the vehicle and restarted it and a red power steering indicated lamp lit on the dashboard, and the vehicle was difficult to steer. The mechanic I called recommended I check NHTSA Saftey Recalls, and found this for 2016 Ram Trucks: ":16V-167 / S19 Recall Summary The power steering system may stop functioning because of a short circuit in the electric power steering (EPS) control circuit board. This would increase risk of a crash." However, me VIN is not covered in the recall. I called RAM to let them know and opened a case, and they recommended I report this to NHTSA . I was not able to get the truck to a RAM dealer, but the mechanic I took it to said that the electronics have failed and the entire steering assembly needs to be replaced... I was driving my Ram 1500 when all of a sudden my steering wheel locked in place and I could not control my steering wheel. This was a bit frightening as I did not know what had happened. I was able to bring my truck back home and called a mechanic, the mechanic told me it is a rack and pinion issue with my truck and after investigation we found there was a recall on a few of these Rams surprisingly when looking it up it shows “no unrepaired recalls” I find it hard to believe and really frustrating as this could’ve caused a really bad accident had even cost me my life.
Due to low oil pressure vehicle engine seized while driving on freeway. After having it towed to local dealer, I was quoted $19,000 to replace the engine because it could not be repaired.
Ever since I have owned the vehicle, the gas station fill nozzle randomly gets stuck when trying to fill the vehicle. I tried taking it to the dealer years back, but was told there was no fix. When the nozzle gets stuck, you really need to wiggle and pry to get it out, sometime spilling fuel outside the truck when it finally releases.
- Power Steering Failed - Was driving highway speed - Suddenly steering wheel stiffened/locked - Dashboard warning light cam on and audible alert stating "Service Power Steering" Truck was able to be guided manually (very difficult - inexperienced driver or individual with less strength would not be able to turn steering wheel ) - not yet - This happened Sunday [XXX] - Truck is currently in the drive at my residence. - Warning lamp and audible alert - At time of incident - I did notice the steering was a little wonky 2 - 3 days prior. (Believed to be tie-rod/Ball joint etc.) Had called local garage to set up inspection (Due in May) to check front end. Below it request (how fast were we traveling) I mention this because, On Saturday evening [XXX] Between [XXX] and [XXX] We were traveling highway speeds 65 - 70 (Flow of traffic) in low visibility (Dark/Rainy) If this has occurred during that period there likely would be "Additional Details" to provide in the below.
