NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2017 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The fuel sending unit failed on several occasions. The vehicle display would indicate low fuel and the gauge would go to full empty. On the third time it displayed I also got a check ending light. Not knowing if the tank was really empty, I filled and it took 11 gallons for a 26 gallon tank. Dealer indicated code P0463 fuel level sensor circuit high. With only 25k miles it does not seem reasonable to have this failure. Online there are lots of complaints of this happening with less than 50k miles. Why hasn't this become a recall? it is not safe to have sensor fail while driving due to distraction. Not to mention an unnecessary expense for the owner. Ram should have corrected this issue long before the 2017 model year.
The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system threw a code for a short circuit and the EPS system failed. I lost my power steering while on the road and was unable to safely operate my RAM. The power steering light indicator was on. This problem was serviced at Apple Chrysler Dodge in Hanover PA on July 21 2021, invoice attached, costing me $2653.43. This is the SAME ISSUE that was addressed for both the 2015 and 2016 RAM 1500s in a recall for “loss of power steering assist”, issued March 23, 2016 (NHTSA No 16V167000).
Vehicular hesitated to select gear and to accelerate. This has concerned me when in traffic when you expect it to accelerate This is an on going issue no
Third brake leaks into the cab under the seat through the sound proofing causing mold in the cab. Vehicle has approximately 29k miles and I would not have notice if I did not lift the seat up where I found some of my items with moldy and wet. If not notice if could cause respiratory issues to occupants. The manufacturer and dealer does not want to cover the repairs. Upon further inquiries, many older models had the same problem. This is a serious health hazard.
The contact's husband owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated he attempted to restart the vehicle and the check engine warning light illuminated. After multiple attempts, the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the contact's residence. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The contact was unsuccessful in reaching the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON FOR NO REASON. WITH MESSAGE OF SERVCICE ABS SYSTEM AND SERVICE TRAILER BRAKING SYSTEM. ALSO LIGHTNING BOLT LIGHT- (ETC CONTROL) COMES ON WONT LET YOUR TRUCK ACCELORATE OR SHIFT. YOU CAN UNPLUG THE PEDAL OVER NIGHT AND YOU WILL GET A DAY OR TWO BEFORE IT COMES BACK ON. I HAVE REPLACED THREE DIFFERENT $400.00 GAS PEDALS WITHIN TWO YEARS
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with ABS module failure. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle recently, the vehicle failed to move after several attempts. The contact used a vehicle scanner and retrieved a DTC code related to the interlock safety switch solenoid. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
I have had 2 incidences with my 2017 Ram. The 1st time it happened, I was driving with my wife and handicapped 33 year old son in the vehicle, and had made a left hand turn on to a fairly busy street near my home. In the midst of my turn, the "Service Power Steering" warning message came on the instrument cluster AND at that point the power steering locked up and basically I had to drive without it! It is extremely dangerous trying to maneuver, but I was able to make WIDE turns and get a few blocks to my home. When arriving home, I immediately called the dealer we bought the truck from and arranged for it to be towed and serviced. I had gone outside to start the truck several times to see if the warning and steering had rectified itself. By the time the tow truck driver arrived (2 hours later) he had me start the truck and it was completely fine! Within the next few days I began to notice an icon on the instrument cluster every time I started the truck of a red steering wheel with an exclamation mark. Even though the truck was driving fine at that point I decided to call the dealer and bring it in for service. They had it for several days and no "code" could be retrieved and it did not happen while they drove it. Fast forward a month or so(9-5-2021), and I was parked in a friends driveway. When I started the truck it happened again. Knowing I had a ways to travel, I started to turn the engine on and off several times. It went away and was fine and has been once again ever since, but the steering wheel icon upon starting the engine is still there. This defect is very concerning to me because of having to transport a handicapped adult! It is terribly dangerous because of the electronic steering going out. It is very, very hard to maneuver my truck.
On two occasions within the last three days, while driving and about to make a turn, my power steering was completely disabled. The first time I was turning onto another street and nearly ran into the ditch. Luckily the second time, I was leaving a parking lot. On both occasions, it was very very difficult to turn the truck with no power steering. Once I turned the truck off for a while to research the problem and restarted it, the problem went away. I am now afraid to drive my truck on a upcoming trip to the mountains.
The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while moving out of a parking space, the steering fault warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who stated that the vehicle was not included in an unknown recall. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion steering column needed to be replaced. The contact had a certified mechanic repair the vehicle. The contact stated that water leaked into the circuit and caused the failure to reoccur. The contact took the vehicle to a car wash several months later and water leaked into the circuit causing the failure to recur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while reversing and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle went into overdrive and crashed into a building. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated no one was injured nor sought medical attention. A police report was not reported. The contact did not call the local dealer and made them aware of this failure. On June 21, 2021, the contact stated that when approaching an intersection and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle went into overdrive again. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he depressed the brake pedal to the floor to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake and accelerator assembly to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
Hello, I am one of the millions of confused Ram truck owners wondering why there has never been a recall issued on this terrible life threatening issue?! I personally own a 2017 Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7 and I have both passenger and drivers side exhaust manifolds making a horrible ticking noise and leaking exhaust fumes that come into the cabin of the truck no matter what you do! It used to be it only ticked at the first start of the day with a slight bit of exhaust fumes and it was only the passenger side ticking and leaking. Now it's both sides ticking that does not go away and exhaust fumes that are just horrible that make you sick. To me THIS IS a life threatening issue because of carbon monoxide poisoning! I bought my truck brand new off the lot and I take very good care of it and to this day it still looks great. This issue should be recalled and be the responsibility of Ram Trucks to repair for the safety of myself and the millions of Ram Truck owners! THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG!!! Thank you for your time.
The fuel sensor has failed which causes us not to know how much gas is in the vehicle. The vehicle only has 30,800 miles on it. There is another issue that we are currently getting checked. The vehicle would not start even with a jump. After leaving it on trickle charge we got to to start but the traction control light came on the service shifter light came, and it said there were no pressure in the tires. We parked the vehicle and had someone come pick us up due to us not feeling safe because it was shifting weird. We had to have it towed to a dealer and they are currently diagnosing it.
See first uploaded file. File #2 has additional information regarding problem that can become a safety issue.
The vehicle worked fine one day. When I went outside the next morning to go to work, all power came on but the vehicle would not start, will not turn over, will not click. Tried to jump start and the same thing happens. I am Active Duty Army and deploying soon. We have a special needs daughter and my wife needs the vehicle to take my daughter to her therapies. The battery is in excellent working condition. Battery terminals are without corrosion and appear brand new.
Fuel sensor failure, I can fill the tank and a sound will chime, then the Guage will show that the truck has no gas, this also turns off ECO mode, so now I'm burning thru more gas and not getting the fuel efficiency that I'm supposed to. If I don't track the mileage then I leave myself open to running out of fuel. Very dangerous.
I have a bad ABS Module. Due to this, I dont not have ABS, traction control, or cruise control. I have been trying to get one for years, since roughly 2021... Again, I do not have ABS or tractions control, which are federally mandated to have. I have been told that the chips on this module is bad and that nothing that can be done. This is just wrong, and is a major safety concern on the road that I would hold the dealer liable for. Safety is a major concern here if I have to brake abruptly, or it is raining without traction control I fear for myself and others lives are at risk ... There were no warning, the light indicators just went off and started flashing... I feel this needs to be fixed asap, and I just recently learned that I could reach out here in hopes to find a resolution. If it cant be fixed, then I believe the dealer should have to buy the vehicle back as they are federally mandated to provide ABS and traction control on vehicles. Thank you for your time.
Electronic power steering failure while driving at high speeds, rendering the vehicle not able to drive. Unable to steer vehicle causing imminent danger to myself, my passenger, and other drivers on the road. The vehicle is not able to be driven to be serviced or inspected. There were no warning signs of power steering failure until the event as described happened.
I was in a vehicle accident May 28, 2021 in my 2017 Ram 1500 on my way to my sons very important medical appointment in Ann Arbor. It was raining horribly and the roads were pretty slick. We were going about 60mph with the rest of traffic due to the visibility. I was rear ended by a hit and run driver in the left lane which caused my vehicle to hydro plane into the right lane where my vehicle hit a steel guard rail and I was then t-boned by an oncoming vehicle in the right lane. My vehicle then did a complete 360. My vehicle was struck twice by two different vehicles and also hit a guardrail, none of my vehicles airbags went off. I was a back seat passenger and seat belted in. I. suffered a bad whip lash. I went to the emergency room a few days later because the pain was unbearable. My 1 month old son was in the vehicle as well as his father. Thankfully my son was in a car seat and the seat belts worked and was wearing one, my injuries could have been worse. Because the air bags did not go off, my car may not be considered as totaled. When picking up my vehicle from the tow service, there was a newer model Ford F150 same size vehicle and similar damages as my truck, all of that vehicles air bags went off. Why didnt mine? I have attached my 2017 Ram 1500 photos as well as the Ford F150 photos to show the similar damages to both vehicles with one vehicles air bags failing to go off and one did not.
When it rains and blows sideways the right passenger floor and door get filled with water. It seems to be coming out of the passenger grab bar. I do not know where it is originating from but it makes my car smell like mold if I am out of town and it rains.
WHILE DRIVING MY EPS WILL HAVE AN INTERMITTENT LOSS IF POWER.
Fuel sensor fails
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. WENT TO PUT THE KEY IN IGNITION AND TURN ON. TRUCK WOULD NOT START, NOT EVEN TURN. TRIED JUMPING IT AND NOTHING WORKED. HAVING TO GET A WHOLE NEW KEY IGNITION ASSEMBLY DONE ON IT. HAVE READ UP ON IT AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE. THE TRUCK WON'T LOCK OR RUN. THERE ARE 83,000 MILES ON IT AND NOTHING PRIOR TO THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE WHEEL WILL NOT TURN OR GO INTO NEUTRAL. THE LIGHTS INSIDE DO WORK SO IT IS NOT THE BATTERY. HAVING TO SEND TO A MECHANIC AND ALL PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED AS THEY IDENTIFIED IT WAS THE IGNITION MODULE THAT WENT OUT. HE SAID IT HAPPENS A LOT TO DODGES.
The truck was in my driveway, with ignition off. I had come home for lunch and was doing some work on the computer when a neighbor saw my truck on fire and alerted me. We called 911 and I went out to see what was going on. By then the entire bed area was completely engulfed with flames and it was beginning to spread into the cabin area. Within 10 minutes the truck was completely engulfed in flames. AFter the fire was extinguished, the fire department (captain) told me they believed the fire began in the rear passenger side taillight. That was the "hot spot". The truck was a total loss.
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR UNIT IN THE GAS TANK WENT OUT CAUSING FUEL GUAGE TO INDICATE THERE'S AN EMPTY TANK. THIS ELECTONIC SENDING UNIT WENT BAD AT 45,824 MILES. I'M READING ABOUT DOZENS OF THESE UNITS HAVING TO BE REPLACED ON THIS MODEL TRUCK. THE UNIT DEVELOPED A DEAD SPOT WHICH STOPS SENDING A SIGNAL WHEN THE TANK REACHES ABOUT 3/4 FULL. THEN ONCE FUEL LEVEL DROPS TO ABOUT 1/4 FULL THE ELECTRONIC SIGNAL BECOMES FUNCTIONAL AGAIN AND THE GAS GUAGE WORKS AGAIN.
Fuel sensor failure causing check engine light to activate
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the fuel gauge reading was inaccurate and would display Empty (E) while the fuel tank was half full. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure had prevented him from operating the vehicle with the key fob. The vehicle was taken the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure was approximately 30,000.
FAILURE OF AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, FAILURE OF BACKUP CAMERA, FAILURE OF OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LIKE FRONT HEADLIGHT AND INDOOR DOME LIGHT.
The bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the engine are breaking leading to a loud "tick" and exhaust gasses being released in the engine compartment. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous while the vehicle is occupied especially when idling. This has been an ongoing issue with the HEMI engine in RAM trucks as evidenced by multiple NHTSA complaints spanning over a decade. Ram has yet to correct the issue and continues to produce vehicles with the same problem. Mechanics talk about it being common, many forums are filled with complaints and websites are dedicated to the issue. My particular truck was inspected by the dealership and I was told it was "a common occurrence with those engines". I'm fine with having to pay the $500 repair bill to correct it, but I feel it should be a recall due to the commonality of the problem and the possibility of a driver or passenger being exposed to exhaust gasses not being properly routed to the rear of the truck. Why are they allowed to keep rolling a known problem off of the assembly line? Maybe this explains headaches after a long drive.
MY TRUCKS FUEL GAUGE SENSOR IS READING EMPTY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A FULL TANK. CODE P0463 . IT IS FROM A FAULTY PART/ FLOAT ON THE FUEL PUMP. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM IN MANY RAM 1500 MODELS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. TRUCK STALLED AND THANKFULLY RESTARTED. I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS THE ISSUES IN THE RAMS BUT WANTS ME TO PAY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HAVE OTHERS REPORTED THIS ISSUE?
AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, THE TRUCK WOULDN'T START. AFTER CHARGING 12 HOURS IT STARTS BUT WILL NOT RESTART AFTER SHUTTING DOWN. OBD P1DF3 CODE. RESEARCH SHOWS MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINT. JUST PURCHASED 6 MONTHS AGO.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SIGNS OF AN EXISTING PROBLEM. REACTING TO THIS CAUSED ME TO SWERVE INTO THE ONCOMING LANE,LUCKILY THERE WAS NO VEHICLE CLOSE ENOUGH TO ME THAT I COULDN'T RETURN TO MY OWN LANE WITHOUT INCIDENT, FROM INTERNET SEARCHES THIS APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM REPORTED BY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, AND THEY ALL SAY THAT DODGE HAS NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SERIOUS INJURY OR POSSIBLY DEATH MAY OCCUR, I AM NOW PREPARED FOR THIS TO POSSIBLY HAPPEN AND WILL NOT BE CAUGHT OFF GUARD AGAIN HOPEFULLY.
WAS INVLOVED IN AN FRONT END ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY GOING 40+MPH AND THE SEATBELT FAILED WITH NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I ENDED UP HITTING THE DASH AND HIT MY HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD.
THE PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING. IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY RAM TRUCK OWNERS AND TO SOME PEOPLE IT IS HAPPENING MORE THAN 3 TIMES. SO WHEN YOU START YOUR VERY EXPENSIVE TRUCK IT MAKES AN AWFUL LOUD TICKING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE DUE TO EXHAUST BOLTS BEING BROKEN ON THE MANIFOLD AND HOT EXHAUST LEAKING OUT. THIS NOISE USUALLY HAPPENS WITH THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. BUT AS MORE BOLTS CONTINUE TO BREAK THE NOISE IS THERE MORE AND MORE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND FUEL SENSOR WARNING AND LOSS OF GAS GAUGE - WHILE ACCELERATING WITH LOSS OF POWER. - DURING THIS IT IS HARD TO FUEL THE VEHICLE.
Driver side window rattles during the cold weather months. Dealer reviewed the issue multiple times and can not resolve.
TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SHIMMY IN THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVESHAFT AND POWER TRAIN WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COMMUNITY MOTORS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (500 WESTIN OAKS DR, HAMMOND, LA 70403, (985) 345-0401) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE BEGINS SHAKING BETWEEN 68-73 MPH ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT HIGHWAYS. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT ROAD CONDITIONS. THE STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T SHAKE BUT THE VEHICLE VIBRATES. MAY BE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH BRAND NEW AND HAD THEM BALANCED, HAD THE VEHICLE ALIGNED. SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS 34,212 MILES. HAD TIRES REBALANCED AFTER 150 MILES OF USE. ISSUE DID NOT GO AWAY.
FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY FAILURE. HAS BEEN FAILING OVER PAST 3 MONTHS, NOW TOTALLY OFF. UNABLE TO KNOW AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND A SAFETY CONCERN. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 36,000 MILES ON IT. RAM SHOULD ISSUE RECALL AS POTENTIAL FOR STRANDED VEHICLE IS GREAT.
THIS RELATES TO VB1/NHTSA 19V-757. I WAS ADVISED OF THIS RECALL MONTHS AGO BY RAM, AND REPEATEDLY SO, EACH TIME BEING TOLD TO PROMPTLY CONTACT RAM AND/OR DEALER TO HANDLE THIS "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL" AND THAT IT WAS "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO TAKE STEPS NOW TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF YOU AND YOUR PASSENGERS." I CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTHS (GOING BACK WELL INTO SUMMER IF NOT PRIOR) AND WAS ADVISED THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. I CALLED ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO TO TRY AGAIN AS MY REGISTRATION IS DUE AND IN CALIFORNIA THERE IS REQUIREMENT TO SHOW THIS TYPE OF RECALL IS FIXED IN ORDER TO REREGISTER. I SET UP APPOINTMENT (THROUGH RAM AND CONFIRMED WITH DEALER) AND WAS JUST ADVISED THAT PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS EVIDENT THAT RAM (FCA) IS NOT TAKING THIS RECALL SERIOUSLY OR AT LEAST NOT SERIOUSLY ENOUGH AND IS APPARENTLY CONTENT WITH ENDANGERING ME, MY FAMILY AND MY PASSENGERS, IF IN FACT THIS RECALL IS FOR A SAFETY-RELATED CONDITION. CAN YOU DO SOMETHING TO SEE THAT THIS IS BEING DILIGENTLY PURSUED?
MY 2017 DODGE RAM IS HAVING STARTING PROBLEMS IN THE MORNING ONLY. IT TAKES ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES TO START. I DON'T HAVE REMOTE START, IT IS NOT THE FOB, I BELIEVE IT'S THE ( WIN MODULE ) HAS I HAVE LOOKED UP ON SOME RAM CHAT SITES. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 37K ON IT AND WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED IN SEPTEMBER...GO FIGURE!
TRYING TO OBTAIN A FIX FOR THE SAFETY RECALL REGARDING THE DIESEL EGR COOLER VB1 FROM OCTOBER 2019 THAT HAS TAKEN WAY TOO LONG. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT MULTIPLE RAM DEALERSHIPS AND THE THERE IS A WAIT LIST FOR THE PART. MEANWHILE I CONTINUE TO DRIVE A TRUCK THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL RISK OF FIRE TO THE OCCUPANTS IN MY TRUCK OR MY HOME. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I ASK THAT THE NTMVSA PUSH RAM TO MAKE THIS PART AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY OR HAVE THEM RECALL THE TRUCK ENTIRELY.
THERE IS A WATER LEAK THAT IS SEEN COMING IN AT THE DRIVER'S A-PILLAR AND AT THE CENTER OVERHEAD CONSOLE.
HAVING ISSUES WHEN PUMPING GAS, THE GAS PUMP STOPS WHEN FUELING THE ENTIRE TIME DUE TO THE FUELING FILLER NECK. IF PLACING THE FUEL HANDLE PROPERLY IT LOCKS ONTO THE FUEL NECK FILLER AND DOESNT LET FUMES EXIT AND CHOKES UP. BEYOND DIFFICULT TO TAKE OFF AND TO PUMP FUEL.
THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW BY ME, AND ONLY USED FOR PERSONAL USE ON PUBLIC ROADS. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR WORK NOR USED IN DIRT ETC. THE BRAKES AND EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE VEHICLE ARE THE ORIGINAL COMPONENTS THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN NEW. THE BRAKE PADS ON THE VEHICLE AT ONLY 29,000 MILES ARE "CRUMBLING" (THOSE WERE THE WORDS FROM THE DODGE/RAM DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT), AND THE OUTER EDGES OF THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE FLAKING APART. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY SEE THIS A LOT WITH RAM TRUCKS, AND SOME THAT ARE ONLY A YEAR OLD WITH LOW MILEAGE. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT SAID CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS, BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE BRAKES ARE DANGEROUS AND THE VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM CANNOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY, SO THE BRAKES (PADS AND ROTORS) MUST BE REPLACED. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CALL CHRYSLER AT 800-992-1997. THE CHRYSLER "CUSTOMER CARE" PEOPLE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY KNOW THAT THEIR BRAKES DON'T LAST LONG, WHICH IS WHY THEY ONLY PROVIDE A WARRANTY OF 12-MONTHS/12,000 MILES, DESPITE THE ADVERTISED 36-MONTH "BUMPER-TO-BUMPER" WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES IS DUE TO VERY LOW QUALITY MATERIALS, AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE WITH A RAM TRUCK, AS WELL AS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO COULD BE INJURED BY RAM TRUCKS THAT HAVE THESE BRAKES. CHRYSLER (RAM) IS KNOWINGLY PUTTING VEHICLES ON THE ROADS WITH UNSAFE BRAKE COMPONENTS. BRAKES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEMS ON VEHICLES, AND THE BRAKES SHOULD BE MADE OF QUALITY MATERIALS, AND NOT BE FALLING APART AND FAILING SO SOON. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER BRAKE PADS ARE WEAR ITEMS, THIS IS NOT A WEAR ISSUE. THOSE BRAKE PADS HAVE A LOT OF THICKNESS, BUT THEY'RE CRUMBLING, WHICH IS PREMATURE FAILURE. AND THE BRAKE ROTORS SHOULD NOT BE FALLING APART.
I HAVE A 2017 RAM 1500 ECO DIESEL. I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL ON IT FOR THE DIESEL EGR COOLER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN ONCE AND AFTER A COMPUTER CHECK WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY SAID THAT IT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. CHRYSLER SENT ME MORE RECALL NOTICES THAT SAID I NEEDED TO GET IT REPAIRED. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER AND TOLD THEM THAT I HAD IT CHECKED AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT I DID NEED TO HAVE THE RECALL FIXED. I SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR OCT 16 TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER MY TRUCK WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP ALL DAY, I DECIDED TO CALL AND GET THE STATUS ON THE REPAIR ONLY TO BE INFORMED THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT GOING TO REPAIR IT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR LEAK. I FOUND THIS ODD FOR A SAFETY RECALL, SO I CHECKED WITH CHRYSLER AGAIN AND READ THE RECALL INSTRUCTIONS. THE INSTRUCTIONS CLEARLY STATE THAT THE RECALL IS TO BE FIXED AND THE ONLY REASON TO CHECK FOR A LIGHT OR A LEAK IS TO SEE IF THE MANIFOLD IS BAD ALSO. IM NOT SURE WHY ANY SAFETY RECALL WOULD NOT BE FIXED ASAP, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE RECALL SAYS TO GET IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY..
THE RAM DEALERSHIP HAS REFUSED TO FIX MY VEHICLE FOR SAFETY RECALL 19V-757

WHY DRIVING MY 2017 ECODIESEL TRUCK WITH 38,500 MILES ON IT, ON HIGHWAY 80 ABOUT 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR MY TRUCK LOST POWER. MY WIFE NOTICE SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE TIRE THATS THE SAME PLACE MY EXHUAST TAIL PIPE IS ON THIS TRUCK,MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS I OVER HEATED WHEN I LOST POWER BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE MY TEMP WAS 208 DEGREES. THE TRUCK WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WITH NO POWER I MANAGED TO GET IT OVER THE BRIDGE PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO THE STOP LIGHT AT THE END OF THE OFF RAMP,WHEN WE STOP AT THE LIGHT SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AMASSING THE TRUCK STILL RUNNING I PUT THOUGH THE ENTER SECTION PULLED OVER SHUT THE TRUCK OFF EVERYONE GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK SMOKE POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND FENDER WELLS, CALLED 911. THE TRUCK IS A TOTAL LOSE. WITH FCA HAVING A RECALL ON THE EGR COOLER AN NO FIX THIS IS A PROBLEM. IN THE RECALL IT STATES IF THE EGR COOLER FAILS IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE.
