I purchased my truck used in November 2022. After I purchased the vehicle, about a day or two later my wife said she continues to heat a ticking sound coming from the engine bay area while idling. I started the vehicle up and heard the exact same sound. I subsequently took it to my mechanic for a diagnostic test and he said my truck and many many more come to him with the same problem and it is very common. The problem was defective exhaust manifold bolts that break off prematurely into the engine block leaving owners with a costly repair of $1200 or more depending on how many bolts are broken, if one side or both sides are damaged, and the difficulty of the repair. I had broken bolts on both sides of the engine. The manufacturer knew about this issue and failed to conduct a recall. My truck also failed the emissions test. Now Ram is preparing to discontinue the Hemi engine and replace it with the 6 cylinder Hurricane engines in future Ram light trucks.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 10 MPH in a parking lot, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the tone wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
on two occasions the vehicle rolled away while in park and ignition off and on multiple occasions vehicle would not come out of park
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
At the gas station pump notch on the gas nozzle getting stuck in the truck filler neck (every time i fill up). Very unsafe. sometimes I spend hour stuck at the gas station trying to remove the gas nozzle from my truck. In addition to the gas nozzle getting stuck, the automatic shut off is triggered repeatedly while fueling so that the tank can only be filled in spurts, and that gas spills when the gas nozzle is withdrawn.
I was driving my vehicle and the back tire from the driver side the tire blew out and make my vehicle roll over and the vehicle got total loss the vehicle was unsafe the brakes locked on me when the tire blow out
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle T-Boned crashed into the side of a delivery truck. During the crash, the front end of the vehicle sustained severe damage but no air bags were deployed and the front driver-side seat belt failed to secure the driver causing the driver to make contact with the steering wheel. The driver sustained a fractured sternum, head, neck, and back injuries and was transported by ambulance to the local hospital for medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The local dealer was notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 71,000.
Every time I travel thru the New York Metro region my Navigations starts "updating" and going blank, or starting telling me I am located in an area I am not even near like a walkway or a river. Have contacted Dodge and Sirius multiple times on the issue and both point the finger at each other. No other component of the system are having a problem, like the radio, climate control, etc only the navigation system and only when I am in the New York Metro area. I have picture to show the issue and have almost crash a number of times trying to fix the navigation while driving in the area.
Lifters failed due to mds ram needs to be liable for this problem will be going to a lawyer...... truck knocks badly poor running condition oild and maintenence always done
My 2017 Ram ecodiesel fuel pump went out on the road. Completely died, had no steering nor brakes. The truck was stalled in the middle of the road due to the high pressure fuel pump and I had to get towed.
The 8.4" infotainment screen freezes up at random times. This is an ongoing recurring issue. This is not only a comfort/convenience/entertainment annoyance. This also disables safety equipment, for example the back-up camera and the windshield defrosting via the climate control system. While I have reached out to the manufacturer for guidance, I have not taken it in for service. There are no warning lamps or indicators of malfunction. This has not resulted in any accidents yet, although I can plainly see the potential.
The Fuel Level Sensor assembly internal of the gas tank failed at 18k miles. A close inspection of the part revealed a manufacturer defect causing an open connection to develop on the carbon track measuring device. This type of situation caused the fuel gauge to go to E causing panic, and warning message appears in display while you are driving and audible alerts go off. I am an electrical engineer and have determined this part has an engineering defect and should be Recalled by RAM. Many complaints on the internet point to this issue and RAM-= is not correcting the issue. They are only using the same [art again for replacement and charging the customer over $600.00
When the truck is started, the engine knocks on the right side of the motor more.
VIN [XXX] Recall “66A Loss of Crankshaft position”. Why is this recall only a software update and does not fix the issue causing the recall? The faulty part is the Tone Wheel and the delamination of the magnetic material on the wheel. The software update just allows the car to drive faster, (40mph) to get it to the dealer for the $2k plus repair. Daimler Chrysler or Fiat, who makes the EcoDiesel engine should be required to pay for this repair. The safety issue is still present. Driving 40mph at 4200rpm on the freeway is a safety concern. The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the vehicle lost power and lunged intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. However, the contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly while driving. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000. VIN tool confirms parts are not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while making a right turn, the contact felt as if the vehicle was going to flip over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but no failure was found. On another occasion, while driving 20 MPH and going over a speed bump, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the suspension system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the repair was not yet available. The contact stated that on multiple occasions while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle would start to hesitate and shake then decelerate without warning. The contact also stated that while accelerating at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. VIN tool confirms part not available.
The electronic power steering completely failed. After we had been driving and it had been raining we were going about 55 mph down the state highway when the electronic power steering completely failed and we lost control of the steering. The dashboard warning light came on and on the notification screen stated to “service power steering“. Even though it shows absolutely no recalls just a simple search online shows that we are not the only ones with a 2017 ram 1500 with electronic power steering with the same issue. I have called around to many auto parts stores and even dealers and nobody has the part in stock. And of course our vehicle having been outside of the five years and mileage it is not under warranty. The steering is 100% locked up and will not move whatsoever. It has been inspected by a authorized ram service mechanic who has verify that it has seized up and needs replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the passenger's side exhaust manifold bolts had fractured, and the passenger's side exhaust manifold, the gasket, and the bolts were replaced by the dealer; however, the failure recurred on the driver's side exhaust manifold. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 35-65 MPH, the vehicle shuddered while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been a recurring failure while driving. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics and transmission repair shops, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and was separating inside the casing. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would be charged a fee for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
POWER STEERING FAILS COMPLEATLY
Constant engine code for a very small evap leak. Vehicle was taken to C&C Automotive (4014 Washington Road, Augusta, Ga. 30907 || 762-685-5555) for a diagnostic. C&C Automotive advised that the leak was due to a faulty Fuel Control Valve, which appeared to be in a melted state. The vehicle has never been in a collision and has 11,000 miles. After some research it was found that there was a previous recall for the 2017 Ram 1500 for the same issue but I was told by Chrysler's Customer Service my Vin was not affected by the recall and I would have to pay for the replacement out of pocket. (Refer- NHTSA: 17V434/ Chrysler: T45)
Dealers have failed to repair the recalls on my vehicle. Have been told by multiple dealers in the area that remedy is not available. With no information to when there will be a remedy. As Ram website says same thing. One recall has been open almost 2 years. Not only is this unsafe, I am paying on a vehicle that isn’t repaired yet.
I was driving on interstate and my vehicle was running fine. Without any warning, my check engine light came on and "Service ETC" flashed. Vehicle went into limp mode and would not go over 10 miles an hour. Had it towed to dealer, a gasket on the EGR was bad, had been leaking oil into my turbo for "quite some time" according to the dodge dealership. My turbo was blown and manifold melted. This is a diesel and I only had 108,000 miles on it. Always have done the maintenance. The cost of the repair was $11,971.62. There is no reason why this vehicle should have been fine one second and have a catastrophic failure the next. I am aware of the class action lawsuit for models up to 2016 and my truck is a 2017. I believe that this is the same problem. It was 10:00 pm when this happened on the highway. I am very fortunate that I was able to get off of the highway and not be involved in a serious accident at night.
My Engine light turned on and vehicle kept overheating. Coolant levels we’re getting very high. Coolant was not cycling through the engine properly & needs new head gasket. The dealership I took it too said they have 5 other trucks with the same issue
On Saturday, July 16th, I was passing a vehicle at approximately 65mph on a two lane road with no shoulder when my engine stalled. Fortunately I was on a straight stretch of the road and was able to coast to a safe location to attempt to restart my engine. After I stopped, I attempted numerous times to restart my engine without success. This stall caused me to be on the side of the road with no shoulder partially sticking out into the roadway. I eventually had to be towed to my mechanic. Once at my mechanic, he found two recalls that had similar symptoms concerning Dodge RAM Ecodiesels- recall W58 and W68 along with TSB 14-007-21. I contacted RAM and was informed that my VIN number was not included in this recall and that they would not fix my vehicle under this recall without me paying in full and their mechanic verifying what was wrong. They were also backlogged and could not even diagnose the issue for 5-8 business days. I elected to have my mechanic perform the work. Once my mechanic opened the transmission assembly, he found that the tone wheel in fact had lost a piece of the magnetic material just like the photo in the service bulletin. He had to repair all the components of the tone wheel and crank sensor assembly just as the service bulleton said to get the vehicle to run again. I have contacted RAM and they stated there is nothing they can do since there is not an open recall on my VIN number even though my truck matches the model and engine type along with affected years from the recall. My VIN should be included in this recall because this incident matches perfectly what the recall states. I have all the paperwork and the actual tone wheel if that is necessary. I am simply trying to get RAM to pay for what they should be obligated to fix on a known problem. They stated that NHTSA is the organization that recalls vehicles and maybe my VIN would be included at some point- of course I know they just don't want to pay for the repair using this as an excuse.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WITH NO WARNING LAMPS OR MESSAGES
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving at slower speeds, the steering wheel seized with the wheels turned to the left. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
On start up makes a ticking noise. Upon further investigation noticed broken studs on exhaust manifold bolts. This causes an exhaust leak which may lead to possible fire.
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle began to decelerate speed. The contact stated that the service electronic throttle control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park at a nearby parking lot. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel injector to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The VIN was associated with 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Was in an accident on 7/8/2022. A vehicle pulled out in front of us and the speed we was traveling at was 45 mph at the time of the impact and airbag’s did not deploy.
There is a known issue called the hemi tick that is the result of broken bolts on the exhaust manifold. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/dodge-ram-1500-hemi-tick-recalls-worth-worrying This is a dangerous exhaust leaks that happens on almost every Ram and nothing has been recalled. To make a safe vehicle people are paying thousands to fix this and Dodge knows it is an issue! Exhaust fumes in the engine compartment flow in to the air intake and into the truck. This issue has been reproduced thousands of times.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a turn, the steering wheel became stiff. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 70,000.
We driving down the highway in state of Idaho. When all of a sudden steering wheel when out of control. My mom could not control it. The steering wheel was go super fast side to side . When ended up going on the side of the highway.
On 26 June 2022 while driving home the truck doors stated locking and the lights flashed every time I came to a stop. On 28 June 2022 the truck self started while inside the garage. The key fob was inside the home on a shelf with no one around and nobody was touching the truck. This is very unsafe since we have an attached garage and we sleep about 12 feet away from the tail pipe. On 29 June 2022 I took it to Dishman Dodge in Spokane WA where I was told that this has never happened. I am the original owner and this truck has had many previous electrical issues (Back up camera, cruise control, fail to start due to security chip pickup, wiper control, power window). It now has 62,000 miles.
RACK & PINION FAILED, UNABLE TO STEER VEHICLE, REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE BY INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTER - RECEIPT IS ATTACHED, NO LAMPS OR WARNING I AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. RACK AND PINION SHOULD NOT FAIL WITH ONLY 51,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.
On June 23rd, 2022, just arrived at a campground with a travel trailer. Noticed something hanging from under the truck. The 32-gallon fuel tank was just filled less than a mile prior to arrival. Upon further observation, the fuel tank hanging with only the rear fuel tank strap intact. The front fuel tank strap was still attached to the mounting bolt, however, the frame end was pulled through. The strap appears to be completely intact. The frame area that holds the strap was severely corroded and rusted out. There is very little rust anywhere on this truck. The front strap was then bent into the vehicles driveshaft by the hanging fuel tank, a cut a groove into the aluminum driveshaft. The damage may have compromised the integrity of the driveshaft as well. My vehicle is well maintained and cared for. I am a mechanic, however, I have it scheduled to be inspected at the Ram dealership. I will upload pictures as soon as possible. Prior research shows Ram truck model years 2009-2012 had the same issues. I reside in Wisconsin. If I did not notice this, the fuel tank would have fallen out, beyond any doubt, on our return trip and 30 plus gallons of fuel with it. It would have been hit first by our rear axle, and the then travel trailer.
The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system went out while turning. Making the turn hazardous as the wheels were impossible to rotate. This has happened multiple times and without warning. Happens both turning left and turning right and will occur when tires are straight as well. My safety and the safety of others were put as risk and continue to be at risk with this vehicle and others like it on the roads. The problem has been stored in the trucks CPM and pulled by the dealer to verify the accident occurred. I was informed nothing can be done since no recalls pull up with my particular VIN number. It has not yet been inspected by police or insurance. The "EPS!" message occurred as the steering was out.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while reversing she felt the vehicle jerk with a loud sound coming from the vehicle causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was set to diagnose the vehicle. On another occasion, the vehicle was getting detailed and it was noticed that the rear window was leaking and had white mold. The vehicle was taking to the dealer who stated that no failure was found. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 5,000.
Manufacturer has not acted in a timely manner to resolve this known defect, FCA recall #Z46, NHTSA Recall #22V-406, which may result in an unexpected loss of motive power, which can cause a vehicle to crash without prior warning, putting my safety and that of the public near me into peril should I continue to use my vehicle, or depriving me of my livelihood if I do not use my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System Diesel) and 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
After filling up the gas tank one morning, I was driving along the highway when suddenly there was a ding on the dashboard message saying there was a fuel sensor fail the fuel gauge indicated that I had absolutely no fuel and the miles remaining said zero it did this several times resetting itself and doing it again and it's still doing it 3 months later
Mid-year 2022 began noticing a ticking sound coming from the truck’s engine bay. The sound seems to lessen or stop after the engine has warmed up. Have not had the vehicle inspected at dealer but local mechanic believes these issues are related to the manifold bolts due to this being a recurring problem on RAM models with the Hemi engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I’m filing a complaint on the recalls already on my vehicle. Neither one of my recalls have been fixed. I keep getting told parts are not available. When ask for timeline I am ignored by the dealers. They haven't even offered at this point to by my vehicle back or give me a vehicle that works correctly. I need some kinda of solution taken care of ASAP.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after her son reversed into the driveway and exited the vehicle, the vehicle started to roll away. Her son then jumped in the vehicle and accidentally depressed the accelerator pedal in his efforts to depress the brake pedal causing him to crash into a tree. The front of the vehicle was severely damaged and the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries sustained by her son. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced a manufacturer's Recall under U05 associated with the failure. The failure mileage was 71,094.

The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle previously had the throttle position sensor, fuel system, water pump, and engine replaced at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.
Exhaust manifolds warp leading to broken mounting bolts/ studs resulting in exhaust leak/ ticking
My rear axle is at a ram dealership have the complete rear axle replaced. It has 90,000 mi and a few thousand miles ago it started to emit a whining noise that just continued to get louder the more I drove it. I took it in one week ago and after a tech checked it out I was told that the entire rear axle had to be replaced at a cost to me of over $5600. I opted to have a used axle installed for half the cost. This problem if left could have led to the rear axle locking up and loss of control. In searching the internet I have found that face has had some recalls on different year trucks for loose pinion nuts and low fluid from the factory and lack of proper heat treating of axle and gears leading to failure. Consumer stated old axle will be available for inspection.
The electric power steering failed. I was not able to safely turn my vehicle. It is a safety issue because I could have easily injure or killed myself or anyone that I crashed into. The issue is known to happen in this vehicle. There was a warning light that came on saying to service the power steering. The manufacture is not making the part to fix this issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor detected through the vents. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the fuel filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
