Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that rainwater had leaked into the vehicle from the top seal around the rear window and into the rear brake light wiring harness. The contact was concerned about an electrical short due to moisture leaking into the wiring harness. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure; however, the manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The RAM 1500 Bighorn cannot take more than mere ounces of unleaded gasoline before the nozzle auto shuts off. It does not matter how fast gas comes out of the nozzle; it can take up to an hour to fill from empty to full going at .1 gallon every 5 seconds. When brought into the RAM dealership, the techs stated this is a well known and documented issue that a lot of RAM owners are seeing, but there has not been a recall on it. There are no warnings for this at all and it poses a threat to any owner that fills their tank with a nozzle that does not have an auto shutoff or with a gas can as fuel backfills and spills out of the truck posing a fire hazard.
My instrument cluster malfunctioned and has been repaired by an authorized Ram dealer. My safety was at risk because my cluster at times would not illuminate. The dealer confirmed the instrument cluster malfunctioned and the entire cluster was replaced. While driving, the instrument cluster would not fully illuminate or display warnings, and at times power steering temporarily unavailable. The instrument cluster drained my battery and caused permanent damage to it. The vehicle would not start on its own. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer, and Chrysler is in possession of the faulty instrument cluster. This issue is similar with other service bulletins related to Ram's poor quality control of their instrument clusters. No recall has been issued for my specific vehicle though it was clearly a manufacturer defect. It should be recalled and my repair cost refunded due to this being a safety issue.
The ram 1500 'tick' as it has become known has started on my vehicle. Just like other reports, it would seem the bolts on my exhaust manifold have snapped causing exhaust to leak into the cabin of the truck. The truck doesn't throw any warnings for it, and the only reason it was discovered was because of a slight 'ticking' sound that can be heard on engine startup. The vehicle does not have any recalls for the issue despite numerous reports of a similar problem. I took the vehicle to a service center where they confirmed the issue. No doubt, exhaust leaking into the cabin of a vehicle poses serious safety risks. The vehicle is currently available for inspection but will be getting fixed in the coming days.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon cleaning the tailgate, the driver's side cable of the tailgate loosened, and the bolts fractured. The loosened cable struck the contact on his left leg. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the bolts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer as the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
My vehicle is experiencing electrical issues that cause major systems to stop working while driving. This includes internal messaging screens, blind spot warning and various other systems failing. The most serious of which is the electronic power steering. It went out several times while driving and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The first time it happened I was traveling and had to take the vehicle to a non dealer repair shop where they replaced the alternator. This initially appeared to resolve the issue but ultimately the problem returned with a few days. FCA has been unable to determine the cause and my truck remains at a local dealership.
While driving the truck, driving 80mph on highway the truck disengaged from Drive to neutral, with a notice on the dash to pullover and shift to park to drive. When truck disengaged from Drive while in motion I lost all acceleration power, and had to coast over to side of road to a stop. The truck disengaged from Drive on 3 other occasions. I almost died when the truck disengaged from drive while makeing a turn through an intersection and almost getting hit my a tractor trailer. I contacted Dodge FCA, filed complaint, then i took the truck to the dealer and after having my truck for 22 days, they said I needed a new transmission on my 2019 ram 1500. The truck drove fine for 2 weeks then it disengaged from Drive again while driving, 2 times this morning. I contacted dodge fca and they said they couldn't do anything till the dealer looks at it. This is a major safety issue. I refuse to let my wife and kids ride in this truck because I am not going to have my wife and kids die in this truck because of these major safety issues. This is a known issue on all dodge ram online forums and dodge has not addressed this issue or acknowledged it. There is something wrong with the electrician system. I have had 2 batteries replaced, radio replaced, manifold, transmission, full tail light housing, active noise cancelation system fixed. There has been so many issues from day one when I bought the truck, but this MAJOR issue with the truck disengaging from drive to neutral while in motion is the most serious. Seems like dodge doesn't have an issue till someone dies in an accident from this issue, because this issue can not be replicated and doesn't not show up at a fault on the dealer test systems, due it everything in vehicles being computerized and digital. Something needs to be done about this
I had a failed 48v battery for the etourque system so the 12v battery was no longer being charged. I had a dispute with the dealer so I picked up the truck and began to drive home. As the generator/alternator for the etourque system was not able to charge the 48v and 12v batteries due to the 48v battery fault, the engine and all systems were running on whatever charge was left in the 12v battery. When the battery began to completely discharge, systems began to fail/go offline. Though the engine was still running as I tried to find a safe spot to pull off the road, the electric power steering failed. Unlike a traditional hydraulic power steering system failure where the wheel can be turned easily at speed and with effort at minimal speed, I was almost unable to turn the wheel at all at over 30 miles per hour. I had to pull as hard as I could to turn at a limited radius until I barely made it to a safe location off the road. The electric power steering system makes it nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel if it loses power. I am a large male and someone weaker or smaller may not have been able to turn the wheel at all.
Instrument cluster turned off and on continuously. Will still not work.
Problem began October 2022. Digital instrument cluster went completely out. My personal safety is a failure to obtain information that illuminates from this panel. I took the vehicle to the dealership I bought it from and they tried a software update and it failed. I was then told the cluster needs to be replaced. Trying to be consistent with my maintenance and not knowing the milage hinders the proper upkeep of my vehicle. My vehicle is available for inspection.
2019 ram classic problem filling gas tank
Transmission slipping out of gear shifting to park while braking and downshifting occurs
While driving the transmission is slipping out of gear. After research found this is happing to many other owners and the dealer has not been able to correct the issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH, a flashing warning light appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle was restarted, and the power steering functionality returned. The contact then stated while driving 20 MPH, several unknown warning lights appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The contact waited 5 minutes before restarting the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the gear shifter failed to move out of park(P). The contact waited for several minutes and was able to drive the vehicle; however, the vehicle lost power steering functionality again. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V020000 (Steering). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, and both confirmed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Getting coolant/antifreeze smell coming from the engine compartment inside the truck. Happens when heater is turned on.
My drivers side sun visor is broke and keeps falling down in front of me while I'm driving causing a serious safety hazard. This is an event that happened, My Wife and 2 other friends are driving from phoenix to LA. the sun visor has broke at the pivoting point in which it holds up the main weight of the visor (not the spot where you would click it into) as we are driving the visor randomly comes out and falls down enough to block my vision and startle me only thing hold it up is the wire connection. this keeps happening which makes it very difficult to drive. in addition I'm now unable to block the sun from blazing into my eyes while driving at sunset and sunrise. I'm also filing this complaint because while searching online for a fix I noticed that there are a lot of people having the same issue so I'm trying to bring awarness to the problem
Over time, the folding mechanism of both side mirrors have deteriorated to the point that the mirrors move with wind resistance while driving. The side mirrors need to be constantly adjusted while driving to maintain visibility. This is a widely recognized issue among Ram 1500 owners.
Rear back window from trim and headliner water is coming inside from too
The problem I’m having it does not let me add fuel into the tank. Without cutting off fifty times when I

Cracked rear window frame allows water ingress. This water soaks the seats and carpets creating risk of corrosion and mold. There are 4 airbags near where the water comes in creating concerns that they may be compromised. Water leaks into the rf hub causing it to malfunction. This has happened twice. The first time, 5/9/2022 the vehicle would not turn off requiring battery disconnection to turn it off. The second time, 9/14/2022, the vehicle would not start and the electric parking brake would not release. Dealership has confirmed under tsb 23-016-21. There are also 2 others, one for the 3rd brake light and one for the aux antenna. Vehicle has 13500 miles and is out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the gear shifter inadvertently shifted out of drive(D) and the vehicle would not accelerate. A warning message was displayed to “Return Shifter to park(P) then Shift to Desired gear". The contact was able to pull over, turn off and restart the vehicle, and the vehicle started operating normally. Several unknown dealers were contacted and all stated that they had not heard of the failure before. The contact was advised to continue driving the vehicle and if the reoccurred, to contact the local dealer for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000. The VIN was not available.
Three weeks ago, my electrical power steering failed in a parking lot. This locked up the steering wheel going 10 mph. After this, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to move and almost resulted in a collision. I then restarted my truck and the issue went away; however, my steeirng wheel continued to drift and not maintain a straight direction. Two weeks later, roughly 700 miles, the same issue happened again. This time, however, I was travelling roughly 65 mph when the steering failed. A warning popped up on the dashboard only after the steering system failed. This was extremely dangerous because had I not been on a straight road this would have certainly caused my vehicle to crash. This issue was confirmed yesterday by my local Ram dealership. They told me and quoted me that I need to have my "Electric Power Steering Module (Rack)" replaced. The vehicle has not been inspected by Mopar or the FCA, but I did talk to the FCA on the phone--they refused to help. The warning light appeared both times during steering failure, but after the steeirng had already failed--no advance notice.
There is a ticking noise I hear when the truck is first started and it is very obvious until the engine warms up and then it is less noticeable. I also noticed a decrease in fuel mileage. I had a mechanic look at it and he told me that the right side exhaust manifold was cracked. I ordered the right side manifold and new bolts and had the mechanic install them for me. Once it was installed when we started the truck the noise was still present but not as loud. I had him look at it again thinking that maybe the install was not done correctly and he said the left one was cracked as well. He showed me the crack. I got online and tried to order the left manifold but it was backordered. I told him that I couldn't find one and that I was on a waitlist at one of the dealerships for it. He told me I needed to try to get it ordered as soon as possible because further cracking could cause issues in the engine and cause a catastrophic event and ruin the engine. A year and a half later there are still no parts available. Upon further investigation I have found that this is a common event for these engines and has been for a very long time. The reason the parts are on backorder is because it is happening to most of the trucks with these engines. Also there is not a replacement part that fixes this issue so there are lots of posts online about it happening a second time after replacing the cracked manifold. The only alternative is to change the OEM manifolds out for shorty headers, which is a lot more expensive, and from the looks of it they are on backorder as well now. It's also a safety hazard because all the exhaust fumes leaking out can get into the cabin and cause carbon monoxide poisoning, accidents, deaths, etc. This is unacceptable. A recall needs to be issued and these vehicles need to be repaired at Chrysler's expense no matter the mileage. The worst part is that people agreeing to repair it can't because the parts are on an extended backorder with no ETA.
Twice now the truck has acted like the gas pedal was stuck down even though it was fully released. The first time I was parking in my carport, I had just put the truck into park, and the rear tires started spinning and spitting rocks. I had to shut the truck off to get it to stop. If I hadn't had the brakes on to stop initially I would have went through the wall in my carport. Took the truck to the dealership, they said there was a recall on the floor mats, they replaced those, and sent me on my way saying that was the problem. The second incident was a week later while approaching red light at a downhill intersection I applied the brakes, but the truck continued to accelerate aggressively. The rear of the vehicle started to slide back and forth from the force of the tires spinning. I was going to hit the vehicle in front of me, so I had to forcefully put the truck from drive straight into park and turn the engine off. I had to flatbed the truck back to the dealership due to safety concerns, they kept if for seven days, and when I went back they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They said perhaps it's driver error and wouldn't say much else ,and they won't do anything about it because they couldn't get the truck to replicate what happened to me. The paperwork they gave me shows that only drove the vehicle one mile at best.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 60-70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to a faulty engine with the Etorque system. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 71,623.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn intermittently. The contact stated that the “Power Steering Service Required” warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V812000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
The transmission goes into park on its own. I was at a stop light and it just went it to Park mode on it's own. Sometimes the radio and displays will shut off when I drive, then the truck dings, and then everything comes back on. It's like the thing is possessed.
Rear window area not sealing properly from issues with body causing water to leak into the cabin. This is causing mold growth, electrical shorts and possible fires. There are hundreds of trucks dealing with this issue discussing this via online forums. Many are breaking the rear windows just to have insurance fix it, some are slapping silicone everywhere to stop the leaks.
Sunroof EXPLODED/SHATTERED while I was driving. Caused me to run off the roadway to the right shoulder and almost collided into a Electric Pole.
We bought this truck used around September of last year and it took a couple of months to start having issues. First, when we would turn the truck on and it would crank, we would hear an occasional knock in the rear end. Like something being reemed out. Recently, one two separate occasions, two separate days, we were going to town and all of a sudden the A/C stopped working and extremely hot air started blowing through the vents and we couldn't turn it off or anything. The knobs to turn off the AC didn't turn it off. The only solution was to pull over on the side of the road and kill the truck and then crank it again. I can only imagine if someone else has this truck and a baby or even elderly was sitting in the vehicle and it changed over like this, it would've suffocated them within minutes, the heat was hotter than heat on a vehicle ever thought about being. Also, our backup camera has had moisture in it after a rain and throws up green lines across the screen. It also has had electrical issues, the radio and whole display will sometimes cut off when the brake pedal is pressed. The radio sometimes cuts off on its own or won't turn off when the button is pushed and sometimes this causes distraction to the driver. There has been a rattle in the steering wheel since we have gotten it. Of course, we have taken it to the dealer from where we bought it because we paid for an extended warranty but they can never find an issue because it doesn't do it while in their presence, even though we have pictures of the malfunction. Also, recently we have noticed that the truck doesn't want to take the gas. It will click off the gas probably 3 or 4 times before we can get the truck filled.
The entertainment system in the truck suddenly started playing at maximum volume and the volume control could not reduce the extremely loud sound (using either the steering wheel mounted controls, or on dash controls). This caused a temporary major distraction as I quickly tried to reduce the painfully loud sound while on the Interstate highway. Using the settings section in the system menus could not solve the problem (but the mute button worked). I had to find a highway rest area and the only solution to the either off or maximum volume of the system was to disconnect the negative wire on the truck battery to get the system to hard reboot. The system reset after disconnecting the battery and the problem did not re-occur. Looking online I see that some other drivers have encountered the same issue.
I was in a high speed rear end collision. We were at a red light and hit from behind approximately 45-50 mph . The air bags did not deploy and the drivers seat belt failed to latch . The passenger seat back latched
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated while responding. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving and had nearly caused a crash. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. Additionally, several unknown dealers were contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the tailgate opened unintendedly while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V904000 (Structure) since the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 6,500.
I was driving in my neighborhood and slowed down to take a curve. Going no more than 20mph the truck stalls and starts beeping. The 'drive' light indicator started flashing and the dash had a message to shift into 'P'. It then shifted itself into neutral. I had to stop immediately and put it in park and turned it off. When I turned it back on it was fine. Dealership could not duplicate.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving at slower speeds with a trailer attached to the vehicle, the vehicle shut off as several warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was informed that the part for the high-pressure fuel pump was not available for another two months. Once the fuel pump was finally replaced, the dealer informed the contact that contamination was found in the fuel system which rendered the repair ineffective. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
When traveling at low speeds when turning right the power steering feels like it is going to go out. I noticed that there have been recalls on the 2019 Ram 1500 due to power steering problems. I believe there is something wrong with my vehicle and should be included with the other 2019 Ram 1500's that were recalled for power steering failure. I'm voicing my concern because it is probably only a matter of time before I have a major issue with the power steering.
Instrument cluster shows ZERO function. No warning indication, No mileage, No fuel reading No Speed. At about 45 mph vehicle had reduced speed and reduced power while on a fairly busy road. Without the instrument cluster functioning, no idea what is going on and had to have it towed to dealership. Mileage unknown because of gauges not working.
Service shifter message locks the vehicle in park. This can be life threatening if in a remote area or other area when a movement of the vehicle is required for safety
+Instrument cluster has ZERO function. No warning lights, no speedometer, no display of mileage. Nothing
The instrument panel one day a few months prior began to go dark and cease to function intermittently. Specifically the digital sections. It has since progressed to never working. This has created a risk as I can no longer receive system information or warnings as a result. Specifically I was unaware that an object in the road severely punctured one of my tires and I had lost all pressure until a concerned driver informed me. There have been no warning lamps leading up to this problem prior to its occurrence and it can 100% be replicated as it hasn’t worked since the last time it went dark. It has not been inspected yet as I have been trying to determine the cause for repair. Everything can be made available for inspection upon request.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH around a corner, the steering wheel became firm without warning. The contact turned the steering wheel from side to side for the steering wheel to start operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 33,000.
When refueling, the fuel vapor recovery system causes the gas pump to shut off after only a couple seconds of pumping fuel. This happens continually while attempting to refuel. It takes 20-25 minutes to refill the tank. The dealership says they have to replace the whole fuel tank to fix this issue at a cost of over $1,800.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, he pulled on his seat belt for adjustment and the seat belt would not retract. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic stated the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V580000 (Seat Belts). The vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion, the contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle would not accelerate as needed with a roaring sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that while decelerating he heard a clicking sound as if the transmission had shifted gears. The contact stated the vehicle accelerated and then operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
On 07-20-22 I was driving home from work in the evening around 5:45 pm, out of nothing, i noticed my temp gauge starting to rise. It rose up to alarm level (overheating). I slowed down and pulled over, and noticed the temp gauge starting to drop down to below overheating but still above normal. Note: I live 4.7 mile away from work and the highest speed limit on my way home is 55mph. I limped slowly with the truck while paying attention to the temp gauge until i pulled up in my drive way. When I opened the door of the truck, i was hit by a huge cloud of white smoke coming from underneath the truck. I shut off the truck and moved away quickly. I noticed a reddish fluid coming from underneath the truck. I could not tell what it was at the beginning but it was oily. Later on I realized it was transmission fluid mixed coolant. Note: transmission fluid is flammable. Due to distance of 4.7 miles distance to my house the truck (exhaust) had not warmed up enough to ignite the transmission fluid. It was later identified by Mike Shaw dealership in Greeley CO, that the heat exchanger (from the radiator) on the transmission body had failed and transmission fluid and coolant mixed rendering the whole transmission void. I was lucky i drive a short distance otherwise the truck would have caught on fire. The truck was towed from my drive to the dealership by my insurance. I am raising the concern because i saw a report by a 2019 Ram owner on your website who had the same experience and unlucky to him, his truck caught fire and burnt down. See January 5, 2022 report NHTSA NUMBER 114446344. I bought the truck brand new on January 1, 2019 in Greeley CO. I am the only owner and driven mostly home to work and occasional trip, very minimal towing averaging twice a year. My truck has little over 70k mile on it. Today, over a month after the incidence i am still waiting to receive the truck from FCA/Dealership back. I was promised to have it back over a week ago. And, cost is going up.
The airbag(s) and Seat belt tensioner failed, and yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I was in a full frontal collision at 45 mph, the airbags did not deploy, and the seatbelt did not tighten or lock. I was thrown all over the truck and suffered several severe injuries, some of which may be permanent. RAM was notified and had stated everything was fine with the truck. But after detailed inspection by the collision center, they disagree and feel there was a malfunction. The insurance company after visual inspection also feels there was a malfunction. There is substantial frame damage, and the front of the truck was crushed. There were no warning lights or symptoms of failure previous to the incident.
2019 DODGE RAM. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING ISSUES. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL CONCERNING THE POWER STEERING GEAR, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS IT WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.
Vehicle is burning anti freeze off and dealer can’t find cause because of no recall on the vehicle. Vehicle smells like antifreeze all the time when running. This has been going on for months now but got really bad this last weekend.
