NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2023 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The left turn signal does not turn off after the turn is completed.
Incident #1: July 29 2023 Truck was purchased at 16 miles on the odometer and approximately at 160 miles the check engine light came on. The truck was coming to a stop when in sputtered, and the check engine light came on a few seconds after. The truck was drivable and was driven a few miles to my home. The truck was driven a few days later and the electrons on the truck such as the radio started to turn off, followed by a battery warning. I went to pull the truck over immediately as the engine was sputtering. I attempted a jump start of the truck and it ran for a few minutes then shut off. The truck battery was charged and put on a tow truck and sent to the dealership. They replaced the MGU "Motor Generator Unit" after which the issue appeared to have been resolved. The battery charge read between 13.8 - 14.2v and right in the middle of the battery charge indicator. Incident #2 August 15th 2023 The truck was parked at the Reno Airport, and when my flight was canceled, I decided to instead drive to San Francisco. The truck was parked in the sun for about 4 hours before it was driven again. I started driving and a few minutes later, was coming to a red light, started to apply the brakes, there was the same feeling of engine stalling when coming to a stop. The engine didn't stall, and no Check Engine light illuminated. I started the 25 mile uphill drive from Reno to Truckee, and noticed that the battery charge was slowly dropping down to 13v, then 12.8v, then to 12.7v when I got to Truckee. I pulled the truck over, restarted it and the voltage slowly climbed up to 13v and I resumed the drive. I started the climb to the Donner summit over i-80, and noticed the battery charge indicator dropping slowly. Approximately 65 miles later then charge was reading 12.4v and the low battery indicator light came on. I pulled the truck over to avoid it from stalling out like it did during the first incident.
When it is raining, even a moderate amount, the air flow from driving down the road blows/directs the water from the windshield across the drivers window. Making it extemely difficult to see out the window for on coming traffic or to use the drivers side mirror.
Tailgate latch failed. Tailgate opened while driving on two separate occasions. As of this submission my vehicle has less than 3,000 miles. After the second failure I took the vehicle to the dealership. They ran diagnostics and confirmed an issue with the tailgate latch. I am working with the dealership and hopefully will have the repairs covered under warranty. Diagnostic report attached. The incident date covers the second failure. I am reporting this issue due the fact it is a known issue and has been the subject of recalls for model years through 2022.
Left turn signal doesn’t cancel on its own. You signal left and you make a left turn and the signal is still blinking. This is a widespread issue according to other Ram 1500 owners.
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 4 MPH and making a left turn, the vehicle stalled inadvertently, nearly causing a crash with incoming traffic. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to roll the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
While making a slow left turn the truck stalled without warning almost causing an accident with oncoming traffic. Once the truck stalled, I wasn't able to accelerate, and the car slowly rolled across two lanes of oncoming traffic. Once the car came to a stop the emergency brake engaged. I was able to put the car in Park and restart and disengage the emergency brake. If the other cars hadn't stopped in time this could easily been a fatal accident for me and my family.
Accelerating from a stop, turning hard right, engine shut off without warning. Vehicle steering seemed unaffected, emergency brake engaged without warning, dash read “apply brake and push start button”- the standard start up message upon entering when parked and engine off. No other indicator lights. Vehicle restarted by applying break and pushing start button. Vehicle lurched mildly when starting engine. Happened approximately 1435, temp around 95 F, daily driver vehicle, driven that am without issue. The remainder of the 10 minute drive, the battery indicator light would come on with a chime. Indicator would remain on around 10-20 seconds and turn off. Battery warning light came off and on at least 8 times within 10 minutes. Vehicle ran without issue aside from battery warning light. Parked for 9 hours and drove home without incident or warning lights.
The turn signal does not reset. Which there is a recall for already. I have complained about this issue before the recall to Ram and now there is a recall. But on may 8, 2025 the dealership stated they could not recreate the issue so they closed the recall. Now on June 17, 2025, I brought my car in for a windshield wiper fluid issue and they asked me is there anything else they should check out. I chuckled and said yea, but ram won't fix it. I told them about the turn signal they said they would check it out. This dealership was able to recreate the issue but since the 1st dealership closed the recall out and marker "complete" i now have to pay for the the fix and try to submit a claim through mopar/stellantis.
The issue concerns the steering column control module, when the turn signal is used or activate the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly. Either issue can cause confusion or reduce visibility for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. I have asked the dealer to fix the issue but have told me they have been out of stock of the part and I have been waiting over 6 months for the fix with no resolution.
I have a 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 12” Uconnect/ infotainment/ telematics system. The system only works for a minute possibly 2 minutes if I am lucky. The whole system shuts off which takes away my bluetooth capabilities, backup camera, all sound systems. My ability to access all safety features on my vehicle. For the not so safety problems, the heat and cooling is just a guessing game. I have no access to use the heated seat or steering wheel features in a brand new vehicle (I lived where it gets -40 degrees fahrenheit when I got this truck.) It also does not allow my cluster gauge to show time, or temperature. This truck has been in and out of the dealership to be worked on for this specific problem more than 3 times. They have replaced the whole system 4 times and replaced a ton of other parts and pieces, and running many diagnostics on it. It has now been at the dealership for over 30 days with no success.
Tailgate latch failed causing tailgate to fall while driving. Tailgate fell onto trailer causing over $2500 in damages. Vehicle has less than 7k miles.
I was sitting stoped in a parking lot and the vehicles etorque shut the engine off. When I took my foot off the brake the vehicle accelerated on its own and hit a light pole. Also airbags didn’t deploy. I was roughly 10 feet from the pole .
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V263000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The Forward Collision Warning System has not functioned on my brand new 2023 Ram Laramie 1500 Limited since I bought it on March 3, 2023. I can make my vehicle available for inspection at your convenience. I feel that this feature, although not standard equipment, not functioning puts both myself and my family at risk through not functioning. The issue has been confirmed by a dealer. Although the system generated no error codes the technician was able to confirm/verify that the forward collision alert system does not engage as designed. I have not received a diagnosis aside from the selling dealer (who refused to test drive the vehicle to verify the failure) telling me that with no error code that they would not be able to diagnose it. The second dealer (who acknowledged the malfunction) noted that it may be a software issue on the attached invoice. RAM Customer Care was not helpful at all and stated that without an error code that they would not escalate my concerns. I've received no error codes or messages indicating that the system is not functioning. The Forward Collision Warning System has engaged at least 4 times since I've been driving the truck but not reliably or consistently which proves to me that something is wrong.
The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle unexpectedly shut off. After restarting the vehicle, the battery warning light was temporarily illuminated and the vehicle operated normally. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but no trouble code was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the contact was fearful of safety risks to the family while riding in the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 992.
