Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
Started getting Service Brake System and ABS warnings in July 22. Had the ABS module replaced. Still getting alerts which deactivates the cruise control randomly when the warning appears. Warnings ding randomly and frequently. Apparently the hydraulic control unit needs replaced but the part is not available and can't be ordered now. I'm worried that I will lose my brakes.
Service antilock brake system and service electronic brake system warnings come on
As I drive the vehicle, the dashboard makes a "ding" sound and the anti-lock brakes and the traction control lights come on. The display reads "Service Anti-lock Brakes". This also causes the cruise control to disengage. The cruise control cannot be set while the two lights are on on the dash. Sometimes the lights stay on for a while. At other times, the lights cycle on and off (and the ding sounds) every few seconds.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was illuminated intermittently. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the ABS system to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Message comes up to "Service electronic braking system." Code found was C0020-01 (ABS pump motor failure). Couldn't order part due to engineering review. Truck only has 20,400 miles. This part cannot be worn out. Should be a safety recall.
Abs problems due to HCU
Brake system failed on 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with 31,262 miles on it. Dealer stated electronic failures on ABS pump and hydraulic control unit.
The hydraulic control unit for the ABS brakes failed at only 17000 miles. This is a known safety issue with these trucks.
Ram 2500 truck "Service Antilock Braking System" and "Service Electronic Braking System" warning light and chime come on and off repeatedly. This problem has been diagnosed by RAM dealer as error code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control General Electrical Failure. Solution per RAM is to replace ABS Hydraulic Control Unit, MOPAR part #68143491AA/AB; however the part is unavailable and on backorder with MOPAR's ETA of December, 2022. This problem started in June, 2022. I tow a 5th Wheel on long trips and this problem is a serious safety concern for my family & I. There are a multitude of complaints on various forums about this issue and the fact that the part is backordered for so long is an indication of a serious defect. When the warning light is on, the ABS system and traction control systems are disabled causing a major safety concern. I would like Dodge/RAM to replace the failed components and pay for installation and/or issue a National Safety Recall to remedy this defect.
While driving my ABS system “ service ABS” and Service Electronic braking system “ light both flashed and my truck started to skip as it appears the abs system was trying to engage while i was driving, I immediately pulled over and turned off the truck. Now the lights won’t turn off. I was driving about 60 on paved roads. This appears to be a severe problem with the 2018 year model and if not taken care of I will bring legal action against Fiat Chrysler Ram and the NHTSA for ignoring these real issues that could potentially lead to a death
2018 Ram 2500 4x4, 65400 miles, began having flashing and dinging from dash and warning lights for abs, traction control. Scan revealed code c0020-01, ABS control general electrical failure. It appears FCA is aware of this issue, but claims it not to be a recall issue, or covered under the power train warranty. I feel this is a safety issue, these systems help avoid crashes. This started as a simple quick light and went away, and at other times it goes off and on and dings, it’s distracting to who ever is driving these vehicles,
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS failed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with an ABS module system failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000.
The truck shows a code indicating the ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Control have failed. The warning lights come on intermittently while driving. These warning lights disable the trucks ABS functionality along with traction control and cruise control is disabled while these warning lights are on. This problem is very widespread among this particular model. Enough so that replacement parts are on backorder and there's no guarantee that replacing the parts will remedy the problem as they will replace with the same OEM parts which have failed again in other documented cases. Several dealers I have spoken with can't even repair the issue, because they say they cannot get new parts. Ram should take responsibility to remedy this problem once and for all, as it creates a major safety hazard with the braking functionality of these trucks. This is concerning, especially considering most folks with these trucks use them to tow, creating an even more dangerous scenario in the event of brake failure at highway speeds when towing.
The Service ABS light come on, around 32,390 miles just out of the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty! The cruse control no longer works! The traction control light is on with the ABS light! Beeps on and off and on and on very annoying!!! Had the truck scanned by my local Mechanic. ANTILOCK BRAKES C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL-GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE-STORED. The truck is available upon request.
ABS Module failed which makes the truck slide and lock up the brakes and makes cruise controll not work at all also turns off traction controll which can make the truck slide or skid in turns or on wet conditions.
ABS Module & Hydraulic control unit
My truck at 38,000 miles started flashing occasionally ABS and traction control warning lights. Neither my ABS or traction control are working when the lights are on. Now I have 45,000 miles on my truck and both lights are on all the time I had the code read and it is C0020-1. My understanding is this is a known problem and my cost is over $1000.00 to fix this problem. I contacted my dealer and they told me my truck is out of warranty and they don’t know of any recalls or investigations into 2018 Ram 2500 braking systems. I have not gotten the issue fixed and we drive it as little as possible. The truck is available for inspection. I am not willing to pay the dealer to inspect the truck.
The service electronic brake light and traction control light on my 2018 Ram 2500 keeps going on and off while driving. This started with only 12,048 miles and 6 weeks over my 3 year warranty. Research shows that this is a common issue with 2018 Rams and newer. Thousands of complaints have been reported and there are several Class Action Lawsuits regarding this issue in several States. Also being reported, is that this issue causes towing problems and the cruise control to malfunction, so I don't dare to use either when traveling. Even with repairs, if you can find the parts, some owners are reporting several repeated failures. You can't replace defective parts with more defective parts and expect a resolution to the problem. Though I have not had brake failure yet, and with only 27,000 mile, it is always on my mind while driving. I don't feel safe when driving my vehicle, hence the low mileage. Chrysler needs to be held accountable and a recall needs to be issued for all makes/models/years having this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH with the cruise control engaged, the Service ABS System and Service Electronic Brakes warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the cruise control disengaged, and the traction control warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed that the HCU and ABS modules needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The Anti-Lock Brake control module along with the Hydraulic control unit is failing. At any rate of speed, the traction control light and the ABS light comes on and off repeatedly. When this happens, the cruise control disengages which has cause the truck to slow down rapidly in heavy traffic causing other drivers to almost rear end my pregnant wife, 3 year old son and I. I had my local ram dealer pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and confirmed that the parts stated above, were in fact failing. The messages that pop up on the instrument cluster are “Service Anti-Lock Brake system” and “Service Electronic Brake System”. I can not have this component inspected as it is a daily driver and is the only vehicle we have currently.
the abs module and the hydraulic pump have a issue that turns on the abs and light and turns off the cruise control and reverts to non abs braking due to faulty module and pump assembly that was changed already and now the wont cover this under any warrenty known faulty part
there seems to be many problems with anti-lock brake issues in the ram trucks. My truck has never been in salt or snow and has always been stored in a garage, it has less than 20000 miles on it and has started the default code. I have seen a lot of truck reports with less miles than mine with the same problems. Ram should be made to repair this problem for safety sake.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electronic braking system intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit, the anti-lock brake, and ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an ABS warning message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where they informed him that the ABS module and hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The contact was given an estimate for the repair; however, the parts for the repair were on backorder. The contact called several dealers and each informed him that they also did not have the parts available. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,719.
Anti lock brakes are on and no towing brakes. Replaced hydraulic control unit and ABS control module. Message showing service anti lock and ABS. Dash continually ding to service. Unable to reset.
The ABS module and associated control unit have failed. This causes the anti lock braking and traction control systems to be inoperable which can cause the vehicle to lose control which can cause injury or death. FCA is aware that these units are defective and refuses to fix them.
ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, REPAIR ELECTRONIC BRAKE ALERTS HAVE BEEN FLASHING WITH AUDIBLE BEEPING AND AT TIMES REMAINS LIT WITHOUT BEEPING. Putting a load on the engine or hitting bumps on road seems to cause the warning lights and beeping. This has been going on since June of 2022. Vehicle was taken to shop and diagnosed with failing part (electronic abs brake module) Part was not readily available and waited two months for part for repair. Cost $525.00 total. Did not fix problem now repair shop states the truck needs HCU hydraulic brake fluid pump. Its been EIGHT MONTHS no part available. Truck is in need of repair, no parts available and has limited our use of airstream tow vehicle for travel.
At around 50,000 miles the ABS light started coming on. This affects traction control and speed control. Dealer said it was the ABS Control Module and is a known issue but not a recall. Finally repaired at my cost of $ 1,103.32. st 57,377 miles on 9/13/2022. Less than 12 months later it is doing it again on 7/29/2023 at 69,649 Miles. This seems to be hazard as the ABS does not work or traction control. Also cuts off the cruise control when it occurs.
Abs and traction control issues. Intermittent lights come on and lose cruise control. 2018 Ram 2500, with 29000 miles.
ABS hydraulic control unit: Warning light and audible "ding" on the dashboard notes there is an issue with the ABS system. After taking this truck to several RAM service centers, the service tech says that it is part of a recall and that parts are not available. I cannot find any such recall, only a class action lawsuit. I haven't noticed a lack of breaking capabilities although I also have not engaged the breaks to the maximum which is where the ABS system would normally engage. Warnings are now constant while the truck is running.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle and while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "Service ABS" was displayed. The check engine and ABS warning lights were illuminated, and the ABS alarm chimed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the ABS module needed to be replaced but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
The EVIC display showed Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System. It would constantly ding and display the ABS light and the Traction Control light. It disengages the ABS and traction control system. Research has shown me this is a very common and known issue. It is dangerous and I am not comfortable driving my vehicle in the weather conditions I experience while towing heavy loads on a daily basis.
-Anti lock brake system control module and traction control system failure with 32000 miles on truck.- In reading online forums they have admitted to knowing these parts were bad. Not sure why this hasn’t been made a recall issue given it involves the braking systems on a huge portion of these trucks sold.- Dealership states both parts are bad but excluded from warranty and extended warranty.- warning lights come on at the same time it locks the brakes up until warning lights go out. -Well at 70 mph on the highway and it locked my brakes up. I was just lucky it didn’t cause a wreck or roll over accident which it very easily could have.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the ABS warning light illuminated with an audible chime. The contact stated that the failure had been intermittent but had become a recurring failure while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that when the ABS warning light illuminated with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle would revert to manual mode and turn off the cruise control. Additionally, the cruise control could not be re-engaged. The contact also stated that when the ABS warning light was illuminated, the brake pedal would feel soft or "mushy" while depressed. Additionally, the contact stated that while making a tight turn to either to the right or left, the steering wheel felt loose. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS Control Module needed to be replaced. The steering wheel failure had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. The VIN was not available.
1. ABS Module and ABS Pump have malfunctioned, parts have been backordered for months with no ETA. 2. The problem has been verified by an independent service center 3. Has not been inspected by anyone else. 4. ABS light and Traction Control light come on intermittently.
Light on dash came on ,brake pedal got so hard to push, almost could not stop.Had to leave truck parked for 2 months waiting for parts. Was told by Mopar parts the anti lock solenoid and control unit were a problem, and would probably fail again
The check engine light came on and vehicle gave a 196 miles to reduced power and shutdown warning. Vehicle was taken to dealer and diagnosis was that the Diesel Exhaust Fluid gauge and pump assembly had failed. Repairs were made at dealer. Failure of this part can put the driver in a situation of reduced power and danger while driving on highway.
The antilock brake system has failed. The vehicle is available for inspection. Without the antilock brakes operating properly, the vehicle is harder to control in emergency situations or on slippery surfaces, endangering the safety of myself and others. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. ABS and traction control lights are on. Service ABS Brake System message on dash. ABS and cruise control inoperative. Code C0020-01 present. Symptoms first appeared May 17 2022.
First the abs module failed then the abs hydraulic control unit failed. It has been over a year and no part is available.
I started getting a Service Electronic Braking System warning light and bell recently that is intermittent and seems to affect the braking system on the truck. The light will go off and then return, sometimes once and at other times frequently. I searched online for this issue and found this is common among the 2018 and earlier year RAM trucks. The dealers make repairs under the warranty or charge upwards of $1,000 to change components to clear the warning, sometimes resolving the issue and at other times the warning returns shortly after repairs were made. My truck has just over 27K miles and the warranty (36 months) lapsed in February 2022. I believe RAM has adequate historical information regarding this issue to recall these vehicles and replace the failing components impacting safe braking on these trucks. Some vehicles exhibited this warning with less than 10,000 miles on them. There is plenty of owners complaints available via internet sites, such as the RAM Forum, documenting this safety issue and the lack of support by Chrysler to resolve the problem.
About every 10 to 15 seconds an alarm sounds and warning sign blinks on dash with message to service anti-braking system and traction control. If cruise control was engaged it disengages and sometimes will not reset until engine is turned off and restarted. Vehicle seems to have braking issues, especially on wet pavement. Brake pads have been checked and are ok. Vehicle odometer has 34102 miles on it. .
The abs and traction control and service electronic brakes system flashes on and off. Truck only has 65,000 miles on it now and it start around 60,000 miles.
The Asb light comes on when pushing the breaks and when hinting a bump it is hard to stop .
ABS KEEPS GOING OFF started at 50 thousand miles it says its the abs module .
While operating the vehicle on cruise control the electronic throttle control failed and the vehicle went to full throttle. Stepping on the gas did not fix the problem. Luckily the brake lamp were applied and the brakes slowed the vehicle to a stop eventually while the engine was still at full throttle. Once the vehicle was safely on the side of the road, it was turned off. The vehicle had a warning that said to service the electronic throttle control. The vehicle was started again to get it onto a tow truck once it arrived, and the vehicle still went to full throttle. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership. Once at the dealership the vehicle was started again to get it off of the tow truck. The engine operated normally at that point. The throttle failing to full throttle is a huge safety issue. Luckily there was minimal traffic on the high way. The vehicle took a very long to to stop. Selecting Neutral could have helped but everything happened very quickly and caught the operator off guard.
ABS and Stability light came on simultaneously several times. It seems there is a recall already for the 2019 Ram 2500 but not including the 2018 model. It seems my model could possibly have the same issue.
ABS Control Module defective at 40,000 miles. OBD scanner confirmed issue. Warning lights and dinger sporadically on and off.
Service Electronic Braking system and Service ABS braking system messages with accompanying chimes occur every 2-3 seconds while driving. This turns off the traction control and abs as well as the speed control. Diagnosis reveals abs control module and hydraulic brake control unit needs to be replaced. Vehicle only has 60,000 miles. Parts are discontinued according to dealer site.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the ABS module message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the ABS module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The ABS module was replaced, and the failure was remedied; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Investigation: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the investigation. The failure mileage was 50,000.
anti- lock brake trouble light is on permanently. Checked with dealer Part number 68347098AB antilock module is on back order. All online retailers are out of stock and no ETA of when its going to be restocked. This is a known problem with Dodge Trucks, without anti-lock brakes the brakes can lock up and skid out of control killing the driver/passenger and anybody else involved. once the light comes on cruise control is locked out. I think this warrants a safety recall. If it was just 1 or 2 cases I could see it being a random problem but reading on all the people who have the same problem, its scary to know as many Dodge ram trucks on the road with possibly no anti-lock brakes what could happen in an emergency
