ABS / TRACTION CONTROL dash light error. Light code C0020-01. ABS CONTROL MODULE.
The warning lights for my ABS and traction control come on and off while driving normal driving conditions. Every time they flash it also has an audible ding that is very distracting. If I am using the cruise control when this happens the cruise control will turn off. The ABS system does not work when the lights come on. I am afraid I will be unable to stop. I took it to a local dealer and they confirmed that the HCU unit is defective and needs to be replaced at a price of $1300.
ABS module causes abs light to periodically come on and shut off from time to time.
ABS and traction lights going off and on daily. Dealership has no parts and unable to fix problems
Had to replace HCU/ABS module July 2021 due to failure and abs/traction control lights illuminated fault code C0020. Now November 2024 i am having the same problem with the HCU/ABS module abs/traction control lights intermittently illuminated with fault code C0020. In process of locating new module and scheduling for repair.
1. Remote start will engage when initiated then turn off after 10 seconds. 2. Gear shift leveler not all the way in park when at park.

I have repeatedly asked the manufacturer and the dealership for a resolution to the antilock brake system failure on this vehicle. This issue has been on going for months and I have no resolution. This is Ram case management # 93024671. My last correspondence is as follows: Dear Stellantis Case Management Team, I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction and serious safety concerns regarding my vehicle, 2018 RAM 2500. This letter follows a delayed response to my initial inquiry about the safety of my vehicle and family, which I find unacceptable. Firstly, I request an immediate and definitive anticipated release date for the crucial part that is pending. The continued uncertainty around this essential component is directly impacting my peace of mind and the perceived safety of my vehicle, my family and the general public. Secondly, I demand a thorough explanation regarding the active fault code on a manufacturer safety device within my vehicle, which your company has inexplicably deemed "normal" and stated the truck is "able to be driven." This assessment is illogical and deeply concerning. If a safety device, such as the anti-lock braking system (ABS) or a similar critical component, registers a fault code, its integrity and intended function are compromised. My fundamental question remains unanswered: If a safety system with a fault code is considered "normal" and safe, then why are such sophisticated safety features like anti-lock brakes installed in the first place? If their compromised state is acceptable, why not simply remove the entire system? This reasoning fundamentally contradicts the purpose of vehicle safety design and creates an unacceptable risk for myself and my family. I gave them 7 business days to respond- there has been no movement.
My truck has had the issue stated in recall C4B since November of 2024, per the recall a solution was to be provided by first quarter of 2025. It is now first quarter of 2026, the recall still shows no parts available, dealers state no parts are available and this is a ridiculous amount of time to remedy a safety recall. Truck currently has multiple lights/issues related to the problem, no traction control and no cruise control for over a year and a half now. This problem needs to fixed ASAP, it's ridiculous.
Have had an open Recall since December 2024. To date 2/17/2026 I just confirmed that the dealer has no current repair options for the recall: The Warning light came on November 1,2024. Manufacturer Recall NumberC4B NHTSA Recall Number24V-896 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available
Recall has been out there for a year and a half with no remedy. Unsure if our vehicle is safe to drive. When we do drive, the alarms on the dash go off constantly.
Hello, I have an Anti Lock Brakes electrical motor failure on my vehicle. The motor failed once at 20000 miles and failed again after a warranty replacement at 60000 miles. The part is on national back order for 2 years now and keeps the ABS from being fully engaged. It also disables cruise control and constantly dings. Two Dodge dealerships have confirmed the issue. The code is C0020-01

ABS and traction control warning lamps and messages appear with chime on and off message Service brakes system needed ABS only 26,400 miles
Hello, I received my recall notice cb4 hcu component and in my notice it said my truck has already been fixed. My truck has not been fixed and I called fca 10 or 12 times about the issue and I have received 10 or 12 different answers and they still haven't fixed my notice on the recall. What else can I do to get the issue fixed. Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
My ABS module has an active recall. I have replaced brakes and rotors in the front and rear. I have had to resurface my rear rotors due to the issue. My breaks are locking up and causing issues. I can't back up my trailer without my breaks locking up. The recall has been active for almost a year without a resolution. This problem is unsafe and people's lives are at risk. Something needs to be done. I can't even buy an aftermarket updated part to fix this issue. Thank you!
The ABS and Traction control system which is operated through the ABS Module intermittently goes on and off alerting the ABS and Traction control systems are not functional. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts me the driver and others at risk.
I'm getting warning lights to service abs system and traction control, also cruise control and 4 wheel wheel drive will not engage. Dealer replaced abs control module while truck was under warranty and now at 58000 miles I'm having the same problem as I did when it was fixed earlier. This is a safety Hazzard and a recall needs to be done because theses vehicles were built for towing heavy loads and you loose your abs and traction control when trying to stop heavy loads.

ABS warning light flashes then Traction Control will flash with a bing-bong noise. Now a few days later the 2 lights come on at startup and stay on. Bing -Bong noise is intermittent. Cruise Control will no longer engage. Model 2018 2500 Laramie crew cab with 122K miles. My concern is braking when pulling my 5th wheel. I think there is an investigation working right now. Investigation: PE 22-012
My ABS light keeps coming on intermittently. I been calling mopar since this recall started in 2024 and they are not supplying needed parts to the dealership to fix it. I call mopar and no ETA on the parts. I want this fixed since they said it can cause my truck to wreck with no notice. I have kids in my truck all the time and mad on delay. How are they getting by not fixing this.
Uconnect screen not working properly due to delamination. When driving the screen will ghost click creating a beeping sound with every ghost click. This could be several hundred peeps per minute. The back up camera will come on while driving forward. In bad weather when you want the defrosters on it will not allow it or stay on defrost. It will switch to all different vent positions, change the air temps so you can't get your window clear. If you try and change it, it will immediately change it. I was pulling a 5th wheel through the mountains and it started to pour rain. I desperately needed defrost and it would not work properly for this reason. If you turn off the screen it will turn right back on. If you turn the volume down to zero you still hear beeping. This is very distracting as a driver. I can't even turn the radio or system off. The radio constantly is changing station and switching from FM to AM or Siri. You can't do anything to stop this ghost clicking.
I had warning lights come on service abs brake system. They replaced abs control module at around 30000 miles under warranty, and now at 58000 I'm getting the warning again. Abs doesn't work, traction control doesn't work and cruise control doesn't work. This makes the truck very unsafe especially when towing which truck is designed for. There needs to be a recall done on this problem.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an alarm sounded and a message indicating the anti-lock braking system failure was displayed, causing the adaptive cruise control mode and the traction control to disengage. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and slamming on the brakes, the rear wheels locked-up and the vehicle made a squealing sound. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
ABS control module is out, code c0020-01 I know 3 other people with the same issue. It is a widespread problem with these rams. Especially in the 2017-2018 years. How can there be a widespread issue like this and there not be a safety recall, seems like an issue with the brake system would be recalled quickly.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the “Service Electronic Braking System” message was illuminated. my family and I were on a trip out of town in the fall ,this oct, when suddenly as we were braking and the trucks break system started flashing on and off saying service brakes failure antilock the bells kept chiming we were scared to death with bell chiming on and off and lights flashing on the dash we stopped along the side of a busy highway camper and all and go what is going on should we continue or make a call for help. I shut the engine off and started it back up and everything was fine. so we started down the road and it returned after a couple of miles so we did this over and over but finally it just kept dinging until we made it home now two weeks later have not driven the truck now two weeks later . found out that this truck has a history of this . by the way this truck only has 13000 miles on it not driven in winters and all highway use. yes but out of warranty with a dangerous breaking issue at again 13000 miles
There seems to be an issue with my ABS and Electronic Braking System, because both lights are blinking on and off saying to service them. It started while I was driving down a gravel road, then will shut off and back on. I drove nearly 500 miles with the ABS and Electronic Braking System sending me this message off and on again. I noticed when it was on that my ABS was not working properly, but when the light was off it was. I tested it several times to verify that it worked when the lights was off and that it didn't when the lights were on.
ABS System. It is available for inspection. On my 2018 Ram 2500 HD 6.7 Cummins Big Horn the ABS warning lights start flashing and warning alarm will start beeping. This is intermittent, but lately much more constant. The big safety issue is when I'm trailering and the ABS system flashes I lose my trailer braking ability. Also, if I'm on cruise control and the warning light comes on, it drops out of cruise control.
Open Recall – Brake/ABS System – No Remedy Available & Active Safety Issue I am reporting a safety concern regarding my 2018 Ram 2500 truck that currently has an open recall affecting the braking/ABS system. My vehicle is actively experiencing warning indicators, including ABS/brake system alerts and constant audible warnings while driving. This indicates the system is not functioning as designed. I have been informed by the dealership that parts are not yet available to complete the recall repair. Despite this being an active safety-related issue, no temporary repair, workaround, or alternative solution has been provided. I am continuing to operate a vehicle with a known defect that affects braking performance and safety systems. This situation creates a significant safety concern, as the ABS system may be disabled, increasing the risk during emergency braking or adverse road conditions. Vehicle: 2018 Ram 2500 Issue: ABS/Brake system warning active, constant alert/dinging Recall: Open, no parts available Dealer response: Unable to repair due to lack of parts I am requesting immediate assistance, a temporary repair or safe alternative.
While driving the PU with my camper in tow, the ABS and Service electronic bakes system warning were displayed on my dash. Then they went out. This process repeated several times over the next 3-4 minutes. Then the warning lights came on and stayed on. It remained that way until I parked on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. I checked the undercarriage for any signs of any visible damage to the braking system. None was readily identifiable. Upon restarting the vehicle, all warning lights were extinguished. I proceeded to the campgrounds with out further warnings on this system. The next day, with out the camper in tow, the warning lights were again active flashing on and off for a period of about 3-4 minutes before they again came on and stayed on. This process repeated itself as I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it. Upon parking for the evening they were still on. When I started again the next day, they were off.
For the last few months, my ABS/Traction control lights on the dash board have been flashing on and off over bumps and even flat road driving. Over the last few weeks, the ABS/Traction control lights have been staying on constantly. I am nervous to tow a heavy load with these lights illuminated since this is dealing with the brake system. After some research, I have discovered this is a huge issue with the RAM 2500 and should be fixed by the manufacturer
Timely as my 2018 2500 seems affected. I've performed no troubleshooting but it is extremely intermittent, either the Service the ABS or Service the Electronic Braking System(s). Usually, a bump in the road makes it come and another turns it off. Sometimes it happens so quickly, only the message and traction control disabled light comes on, sometimes only the chime comes in. Sometimes the message stays up and the brake warning and traction control light comes on, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes a couple of seconds. Always goes away with an ignition cycle. If it's on long enough. For some period of time, it came in when I turned the truck on and off when I released the parking brake. Annoying.
The ABS Light along with the EBS light were popping up on the dash every 2-3 seconds. My cruise control quit working. The truck is steadily dinging. I am sure the ABS will not function when this light is on. I am worried the truck will not handle well on wet roads. I have a [XXX] and a [XXX] . Please help me resolve this issue. The code I am getting is C0020 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Abs traction control and cruise not working due to ABS MODULE FAILURE FOR S THIRD TIME
UNKNOWN Service electronic ABS system light intermittently comes on and off hundreds of times in a ten mile drive. I am reporting this due to finding out that this problem is affecting many many other 2018 Ram owners.
ABS / Traction control error intermittent alert.
I get a message that states Service air ride suspension immediately. After reading several ram forms it seems this is a big problem with these trucks. My airbags are completely inflated. I have not taken to the dealer because most of the forms I read says ram is aware of the problem but hasn't issued a recall.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check ABS error message was displayed. In addition, the contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed ABS motor controller. The contact was informed that the ABS motor controller needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was informed that parts were unavailable. The contact was offered a loaner vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the parts were unavailable to repair the vehicle. The contact stated that the parts had been unavailable for more than a year and a half. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.
Loss of break performance. Traction control and abs warning lights come on intermittently. This is the second time this has happened. Had abs module and hcu replaced once already.
The abs and electronic brake control lights keep going off and no abs it also shuts cruise control off when light come on. I pull a trailer a lot and brakes lock up and no abs. Very dangerous ,almost rear ended a vehicle on the interstate because traffic stopped all a sudden. Cannot believe there isn’t a safety recall yet there are numerous complaints about this problem.
abs light and traction controllight on
The ABS/Traction lights/Bell keeps alarming on my dash. The ABS HCU needs to be replaced. I have found out from research on line that RAM knows about this and chooses to do nothing about it. It mainly affects the 2017 and 2018 RAM 2500's. They switched manufactures for the ABS/HCU during those two years and the parts are inferior and constantly fail causing the ABS to be inoperable causing a serious safety concern.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS control module. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
While under warranty (no paperwork available for exact date), the ABS and Traction Control warning light would intermittently turn on and then go off. It was taken to the dealership and repaired under warranty. I now have 40,000 miles on the truck and am again having the same issue.
On 10-01-2024, I took my 2018 RAM Truck for service at the Warrensburg, Missouri Dealership. The reason was due to service lights coming on in the truck to tell me the ABS and Electronic Braking System had issues. The dealership service department replaced a faulty HCU and the "Control Anti-Lock Brake System". My truck had 69850 mileage when the service lights came on. This is the second time, the HCU has been replaced due to the same issue in 04-21-2021, when the same truck had 30945 miles. The dealership explained this is due to RAM contracting the HCU part from a manufacture that proved to be bad. They have now changed manufacturer and the new part is being installed. A quick search through the internet shows this is an issue in RAM trucks over the years with two lawsuit in two different states. The loss of the braking systems, especially when hauling trailers and campers can cause serious braking issues. Why has there not been a recall issued on this HCU? Not only unsafe, but not being warrantied by RAM, my repair bill for their error in manufacturer, cost me almost $800.00. Please investigate before a serious accident occurs over many years of these RAM trucks using a faulty HCU.
ABS and service electronic breaking system lights all come on. I loose 4 wheel drive and cruise control as well as traction control. Happened at about 55000 miles had fixed now happened again at 95000 miles. Breaking is not as good as it should be!
