Service ABS which is a known problem
IVE HAD THE ABS PUMP CONTROL MODULE GO OUT THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS
Hydraulic control unit/ABS module failure.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the "Service ABS system" warning light intermittently illuminated; however, the warning light disappeared while driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the local dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,200. The contact stated that plenty of other FCA vehicles have the same exact issues. When the contact mentioned their experience with their local dealer, they were told that this happens all the time but the vehicle should still be safe to drive. The dealer was unwilling to open a case with the manufacturer and told the contact that it would take several months to receive parts and get it repaired.
ABS control module has failed and is not available from the dealer, this is a known problem on 2017 and 2018 model year ,Part number 68347098AA, been told this will not be available untill 08/2024 at the earliest, there is a nation wide back order for a replacement part.
the abs brake warning light and the traction control light goes on and off constantly. a "warning beep also goes on. this has been going on for over a year. we have been told it is under "engineering review". we have been trying to get a fix but keep being told part is on backorder. have called ND texted Ram multiple times and they refuse to do anything. This is a break problem-not an insignificant safety problem. is therr anything you can do about this?
The abs light as well as the service electric braking system continues to go off. I’ve taking the truck to the shop and they say I need a new abs brake module. I’ve been waiting over 5 months and now they tell me parts may be available in September 2023. The truck “ dings” everytime the abs light comes on about every 2 seconds and is driving me crazy. The truck only had 50k miles. Again the constant dinging is driving me insane. Dealer says there’s no way to turn the ding off and I just have to deal with it. I shouldn’t just have to deal with it. Truck is still under warranty.
Truck has only 11,500 miles Flashing service anti locking brake system —& ABS and anti skid lights also flashing Took to Ram -ABS module needs to be replaced around $1200 to fix
On December 14th, I was driving my 2017 Ram 3500 with 95,000 miles down the road when I encountered a tree completely blocking the roadway. When I applied the brakes I heard a pop and the brake pedal went the the floor. At this point I had no brakes and was forced to hit the tree. Thankfully it was in a rural area and no one was killed because of the failure. My safety was defiantly put at risk because of this failure. Once stopped I was able to look under the hood and found the top bolt that holds the brake master cylinder to the firewall sheared completely off. This caused the brake master cylinder to fall away from the firewall and disabled all braking functions. I had the vehicle towed to a Ram Dealer and then contacted Ram (Stellantis) for a reason and solution to fix the failure. They sent an engineering analysis associate to look at the the truck finally on the January 9th. They then sent a very generic letter on the 12th stating that they don't believe it is a manufacturing issue. They will give the dealer or myself no further information on what they found, what the cause was, or how the dealer should proceed to fix the problem. The vehicle is still currently sitting at the Ram Dealer and has not been fixed if you would like to inspect it. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior problems associated with this failure. It was a sudden and catastrophic failure of the braking system.
Defective ABS Pump or/and ABS Control Module Confirmed by local Dealership and an independent repair shop. Lights on dash - ABS and traction control Lights come on and go off intermittently throughout driving.
My ABS lights come on at 37000 miles, the code reads C0020-01 which is the hydraulic control unit . There are no parts to replace these units which means no ABS brakes . After looking in to this issue it seems to be a issue with the 2017 and 2018 models.
Abs hydraulic motor and control unit fails and lights flash and ding on the dashboard this is my third pump being replaced and now not under warranty. Also notice alot of trucks having the same issue
The ABS and hydraulic brake failure comes on multiple time while driving. I’m told this disables 4x4,anti lock brakes and cruise control. Part is on back order and could take up to 4 months to arrive and cost up to 800.00 to replace
Driving on highway back right side wheel studs broke off, wheel separated from vehicle.
5 of the 8 wheel studs on the left rear tire suddenly sheared off while my husband was driving the vehicle. This occurred without warning and with no provoking event - just driving normally. My husband was able to safely pull over and was not hurt but it could have potentially caused a crash and/or serious bodily harm to him or others on the roadway. I contacted the dealer knowing that a recall had been issued for similar year trucks (we received a recall for this on our Ram 4500) and they rudely told me that there was not a recall on this truck and they would not fix it. I do have a picture and the shears were all fresh suggesting that it occurred all at once. The dealer will not look at it for 30 days so we are making other arrangements to have the repair done but I worry about the other tires. If there are multiple year recalls in RAM trucks of varying models for the same thing that would suggest that this event has occurred from a similar manufacturing defect. Dodge needs to take responsibility and offer a solution before someone else is hurt or killed. I don't care about the money. I care about the lives of the people driving RAM trucks and the manufacturer says it is not on them.
ABS Pump Motor Control electrical failure. Bad ABS pump and module.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that after engaging the parking brake, the ABS warning light illuminated and had since illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS module. The contact stated that the ABS module had previously been replaced by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
Brakes not functioning properly intermittently getting warning “Service electronic braking system” “Service ABS System”. The warning comes on then goes away. No consistency on when the message comes on and when it goes away.
The abs and traction control lights flash on and off. They also have remained off and the back on for while. Happens a lot during summer and when driving for a while. While on cruise control and the lights comes sudden loss of power and agrressive engine slow down causing the vehicle to shake. Has happen multiple times.
The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause this vehicle to crash . Warning lights are present, I have a horse trailer and can not use this truck to pull it due to this danger. I have waited over a year for the remedy to be offered but there is no remedy from the manufacturer for these failures of the ABS/ESC/Traction Control.. This happens EVERY TIME I attempt to drive this truck. It has LOW Mileage due to not being able to drive it.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was on backorder until January 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the messages "Service ABS System" and "Service Traction Control System" were displayed, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated intermittently. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the failure recurred, and the brake pedal was pulsating. The contact stated that it felt like the ABS was engaging and disengaging unintendedly, causing the vehicle to be pulled to one side. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined that the HCU needed to be replaced. The local dealer and several unknown dealers were contacted for the recall repair, but informed the contact the part was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Unknown. The vehicle while driving will violently start shaking in the front. End. The vehicle shakes approximately 10" or more side to side. I have heard it called the Ram death shake. Had vehicle towed to the dealership. Dealer said they could not find anything wrong. It happened again several time after leaving the dealership. Now I can only drive less than 65 mph.max for fear I it is going to get me killed.
ABS light came on at 13,000 miles and was repaired under warranty. At 27,000 miles (2.5 years later), ABS has failed again, code C-020, but vehicle is out of warranty. Contacted FCA and was told "sorry, its out of warranty, pay for it yourself and keep your receipts, just in case it goes to recall". This is a know safety issue as cruise control and traction control are also tied to the ABS. Driver distraction should also be mentioned due to the entirely random but frequent chimes going off due to ABS failure. When the truck was "repaired" the first time, the bad parts were replaced with identical parts, i.e. not a redesigned, more dependable part, but the same poor design as stock.
The vehicle had a sudden acceleration problem and the driver ended up in a big crash. The driver is in the hospital with many injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer before, at the beginning of March, because the check engine light was on and the throttle control light on and the truck didn't shift properly and dealer said that he doesn't have a transmission mechanic for about a month. They worked on the recalls and the oil and fuel filters change. Afterwards I took the truck to another shop. They changed the oil at the transmission, but the truck showed the same messages on the cluster almost immediately. I took the truck to another mechanic and they changed the solenoids in the transmission, but in a short time the same messages (Check engine light and throttle control light) came on the cluster. When these light came on the truck didn't shift properly so I spoke with another mechanic about the problem and he programmed me for an appointment on August 4th. This date is too late now, because on July 25th I lost the truck in a terrible accident due to sudden acceleration of the truck and the driver could not stop it. The brakes failed and he tried to slow it down driving it against the concrete curve but he couldn't, the truck kept on speeding then he hit a big tree in order not to crash other cars on the road or the people in the driveway close to the place of the accident.
The issue involves the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and hydraulic control unit on our 2017 Ram 3500. The recall states that the ABS module/hydraulic control unit may fail, which can impact braking performance and disable safety systems. The component has not been repaired because parts have been unavailable for over three years. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This defect creates a serious safety risk. The vehicle is primarily used to tow livestock, including horses, and loss or reduction of braking capability while towing could result in loss of control, increased stopping distance, or an accident involving occupants, other drivers, or transported animals. The problem has been confirmed by authorized Ram dealerships in Chehalis, Washington and Eureka, California. Both dealerships, as well as Ram customer care, have acknowledged the open recall and stated that no parts are available to complete the repair. The vehicle has not been physically inspected by the manufacturer for repair because no remedy has been available. It has not been involved in an accident related to this issue. Prior to the recall, there were no known warning messages or confirmed failures observed. However, the recall itself indicates a potential failure of the ABS system and braking components, which may occur without warning. The recall has remained unresolved for an unreasonable amount of time. The manufacturer has failed to provide a remedy for this safety-related defect within a reasonable time.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light would intermittently illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where a diagnostic test confirmed that there was an electrical short between the ABS hydraulic control unit and the electronic module which rendered the ABS defective. The contact was informed that both parts to repair the failure were on backorder. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic for an alignment check; however, the dealer and the independent mechanic could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I made appointment with Ram dealership. The letter said 2 or so hours. The advisor stated, it will take all day because I was a recall and they will not have the diesel mechanic stop working on other vehicles for a recall. Which makes no sense since it's not my fault The truck not safe to drive. In addition, I depend on my truck because I use it for my work - hot shot (delivery). I been waiting at dealership for over 3 hours and they still have not even looked at it. The dealership is not prioritizing my vehicle, although it should since I am a customer after all and this is a recall from the manufacturer. Dealerships should be made aware that a vehicle should be fixed as they come in, not based on whether you are paying or not. This dealership always does this when warranty or recalls and it's frustrating. It's not fair for us to lose this much time because we are not paying. How is it my fault the vehicle is defective? After all it was not caused because of my driving but because it was not manufactured correctly. I like Ram but the dealership need to better understand the customer whether paying or not. This is not fair and is annoying.
The ABS system failed. It flashes on and off randomly. I pull a lot of trailers not having ABS is not safe for me or anyone around me. I Tried to get it fixed but the parts are more then a year out is what a dealership told me. The dealership was able to see the problem. I have 2 friends that have a 2018 and a 2017 Ram 3500, and both have the same problems.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, several ABS related warning lights appeared on the instrument panel with a warning chime coming from the vehicle. Due to the failure, the cruise control failed to operate as needed. The contact continued driving and the warning lights disappeared and the vehicle resumed normal driving function. The dealer was notified of the failure and a diagnostic test revealed a defective ABS control module. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the brakes became inoperable. The contact was able to use the gears and parking brake to slow the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder, ABS control module, and hydraulic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Braking ability is very diminished while driving, particularly dangerous while pulling a trailer or load in bed. Brake pads are good. Google search showed many complaints on this particular Brocken with these trucks. This one is doing the same thing. This has done this since purchased in October 2021.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels). The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The part was not available for the recall repair. The contact had experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was previously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Register Chevrolet, located at (14181 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613). While at the dealer for an oil change, the contact was informed that the ABS had failed and needed to be replaced. The ABS was replaced with an older model. The Chrysler dealer was contacted about the recall and informed the contact that the manufacturer was only providing one part at a time. The dealer was instructed to repair vehicles without the chassis cab attached first. The contact was informed that the part was not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
I am getting the C-0020-01 ABS code. The ABS module and HCU have been replaced and have failed again. This is making the vehicle dangerous to stop in damp conditions.
ABS warning has been going on and off for 2 years This is the same problem that the current class action lawsuits make reference to. I have had this problem for a long time and parts to repair it have not been available. Recently my wife ran into a bullard in a wet parking lot that she felt was a result of the antilock brake system. I only use the truck when it is absolutely necessary due to this problem. It scares me to think that I might not be able to stop this heavy vehicle. I hope this gets resolved soon.
Front turn signals, driver side headlight, passenger side fog light all went out at the same time. Tested bulbs and all are good. Message on dash said they were out and yes they were. Checked grounds all good. Found the big plug under fuse box moved it around and lights came back on. Connectors are very lose in the plug we will we need to change harness?

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
MY 2017 RAM 3500 6.7L DUALLY WITH ONLY 18,312 MILES ON IT HAD A TREAD SEPARATION ON A FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN REAR TIRE. HAD ANOTHER ONE PREVIOUSLY LATE LAST YEAR ON A FACTORY FRONT TIRE AT 14,412 MILES. LUCKILY I DISCOVERED BOTH WITH CUPPING OF THE TIER AND ROAD VIBRATION BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN 10 PLY TIRES ON THE RAM TRUCKS ARE CRAP AND DANGEROUS AND I'VE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SAME FACTORY TIRES, SOME WITH CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. RAM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPLACED THESE TIRES AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS! I USE THIS TRUCK TO PULL A 34 FT HORSE TRAILER WITH $50,000 HORSES, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, MY WIFE IS USUALLY OUT ON THE ROAD WITH IT ALONE AND IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC TO HAVE A FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A HEAVY TRAILER. RAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR CHOICE OF TIRES.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being driven at approximately 75 MPH, there was a sudden drop on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The driver waited until the vehicle decelerated before being able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact stated that the rear passenger’s side wheel had detached. The wheel hub assembly, brake pads, rotors, and studs on all four wheels were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels). The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
