URGENT: RAM/Mopar is unable to remedy the safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. SITUATION: In response to NHTSA safety recall number 21V-398, I messaged RAM on 25 July. I requested an expedited replacement of my unsafe vehicle with an identical or similar vehicle; or that they refund the vehicle's purchase price in full, minus a reasonable allowance for depreciation. BACKGROUND: As a 100% disabled, medically retired Afghanistan war veteran, I heavily rely on owning a safe, reliable vehicle to travel to medical appointments. Additionally, my vehicle is used to pick up and drop off family to/from elementary school. This recalled vehicle is my sole source of transportation. As such, I am deeply concerned about my vehicle's safety issue, which includes the risk of a wheel separating from the vehicle during operation, causing a vehicle crash without prior warning, and/or the wheel/tire posing a risk to other motorists. ASSESSMENT: To allow reasonable time for RAM/Mopar to provide an available remedy, I waited two months before making my request. However, as a company that regards the safety of its customers as paramount, I asked RAM to appreciate the seriousness and urgency of my request and that they acknowledge their duty to resolve this matter in a timely manner. Furthermore, I explained that I believe that a prudent company could foresee that a breach of this duty may proximately cause severe injury or death. On 26 July, a RAM Customer Service Call Center rep advised me that an available remedy is not expected for at least four months and that in light of unprecedented parts/supply shortages caused by COVID-19, it is reasonable for Mopar to anticipate unforeseeable delays in having a repair solution within four months, or even within one year. Nevertheless, the rep stated that my request would not be honored and my case would not be elevated for further consideration. I appreciate any assistance that NHTSA can provide to resolve this matter.
8.4 inch Uconnect infotainment screen is delaminating. The digitizer screen is separating from the LCD screen from an apparent manufacturer defect. This screen controls backup camera, secondary heating and cooling defrost function. This is a safety issue as the screen becomes non responsive or ghost touch inputs start to randomly change settings in the vehicle.

WHILE TURNING AROUND ON A PAVED CUL DE SAC TYPE END OF ROAD AREA I COULD NOT COMPLETE THE TURN 100% TURNING LEFT. I STOPPED, PUT TRUCK IN REVERSE AND TURNED THE WHEEL RIGHT IN ORDER TO BACK UP SOME. TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE HARDLY AT ALL. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE 4WD OR TRANSMISSION WAS "LOCKED". I PUT TRUCK IN PARK AND FOUND THE PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD END/DRAG LINK SEPARATED FROM THE KNUCKLE. THE TIE ROD END BALL SOCKET HAD APPARENTLY SEPARATED FROM THE MALE BALL PART CONNECTED TO THE KNUCKLE DUE TO A "CRACK" IN THE METAL. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE. Abs and traction control lights are on. Cruise control will not work when lights are on. Lights go on and off with chime very annoying. Brakes will not function properly when lights are on. Contacted dealer no eta on parts. Almost 2 years now. Contacted dealer before warranty was out. Next time I went to ask I got another service rep and he said my warranty is out. This is not good.
MY 8.4 UCONNECT TOUCH SCREEN IS DELAMINATING CAUSE ALL TYPES OF ISSUES. FUNCTION DON'T WORK PROPERLY WHEN TRYING TO USE IT. IT WILL RANDOMLY SELECT FUNCTIONS & HINDERS SAFE DRIVING PRACTICES. THIS IS A KNOWN CAUSE BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR BASED ON MILEAGE OF TRUCK WHICH IS 45K. THE COST IS OUTRAGEOUS TO HAVE REPAIRED AT DEALER.
2018 RAM Display screen delaminates and behaves erratically. Car phones 911 and the call cannot be stopped. Switches driver controls erratically. All electronic systems are erratic because the screen thinks it is being touched when it is not. This failure is present on this 2018 RAM 3500 and Ive seen the same failure on multiple Ram 1500/2500/3500 vehicles from 2018.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the brake lights illuminated. There was an abnormal dinging sound detected. 3 yrs ago, took to dealership for light for electronic brake module, was told that the part was on backorder. Picked up truck and was told that they would let us know when part came in, have called and spoken to at least 11 different service reps and a managers (Dodge as well) over the last 3 years. They close the tickets after a certain amount of time and you have to explain yourself over and over and get the same answer, the part is on national backorder. Our warranty expired 10/2023, there is still no recall on our truck but other truck have a recall. I have tried and called the 1-800 number to get help with this matter and still we have a vehicle that we may cause injury to us or others. Please help!
Related to the known HCU failure on these vehicles. My first submitted complaint was on Oct 22, 2022 and this issue is still not resolved. I received a letter in mail on January 21st of this year stating that a recall was finally underway. Now it's late March and everyone's standard response is "No Remedy Yet". The remedy is actually installing HCU part number 68143491AB which replaces the corrupt factory installed part 6814391AA. These parts are readily available online so why can't factory service centers begin replacing these failed HCU's. This complaint is filed due to my belief that this dangerous safety issue is not being resolved in a reasonable, timely manner. Not even close.
Braking problems / ABS module failure. I never lost brakes but the ABS did fail and the ABS module and HCU had to be replaced @ 17400 miles at roughly 2 years old.
Abs light and traction control light comes on and off all day long. Brakes will lock up if you’re using cruise control when the abs and traction control light come on. Both lights come on at the same time. The parts needed for this issue is on back order.
DUE TO SAFETY RECALL V06, I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO ADJUST THE STEERING WHEEL IN MY TRUCK AFTER AN ALIGNMENT, LEAVING THE STEERING WHEEL IN A $60K TRUCK OFF. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER SINCE NOVEMBER 2020, AND THEY CONTINUE TO CLOSE MY CASE AND HAVE NOT ONCE RETURNED A CALL. I EXPECT THIS RECALL TO BE HANDLED PROPERLY, AND NOT JUST WELDED TOGETHER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 RAM 3500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED. The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, a message stating that the anti-lock brake system (ABS) needed servicing was displayed. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The part was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred approximately 2 years later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the part was on back order and would not be available until June 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact the dealer for additional diagnostic tests. The failure mileage was approximately 23,715.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds or while at a traffic light, the “Service ABS system Soon” message was displayed. There was an abnormal dinging sound detected. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken on three occasions to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the control module and the anti-lock braking system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 24,365.
At 9,040 miles, display reads “Service Antilock Brake System” along with warning lights for abs and traction control and a loud dinging. It goes off, then back on multiple times until serviced when the dealership replaced the faulty HCU Sept. 2020 under warranty. Diagnostic code C0020-01 ABS pump motor general electrical failure 2023 the problem comes back but nothing done. 2024 after much research, found the newer replacement HCU had just been revised in April with a new part number. At 25,837 miles back to the dealership for another replacement, this time paying out of pocket, over $300 for part and over $600 for labor. It’s only been a short time but so far, no warning about a faulty abs. I do have the old part if inspection is necessary. There is an FCA service bulletin out #S2005000004; NHTSA #10181550 It says if the HCU doesn’t fix the problem, replace the ECU, but that is not available and no ETA. Lucky to get the HCU because that is a very limited part. This is a safety issue because not only does the ABS and traction control go out but you also lose cruise control and 4wd while driving. There should be a recall with all the complaints. Not sure what good a recall would do if parts aren’t available anyway. Telling someone who just spent a fortune on buying this truck not to drive it because of this, is not an option.
I purchased vehicle new June 2018. On [XXX]. I had a Fault code of ABS brakes system and took to Mountain Valley motors Blue Ridge, Georgia for repair and replacement of hydraulic control unit. At that time the mileage 22,140. [XXX] had the same failure again and the fault code reading service ABS brake system. Took the truck to Jim Brown Dade city Florida for Repair with the fault, code reading, and replaced again the same hydraulic control unit for the brake system. Second replacement of same part. Mileage 31,482. [XXX] had the same reoccurring fault code service antilock brake system when red same problem replace hydraulic control unit for the ABS brake system. Had that repair done again and mileage 37,290. At that time they had stated a new hydraulic control part was available with part number ending in AB. Part installed 68143491AB. After returning home, approximately 120 miles later, I am having fault flash on dash screen again, saying to service ABS brake system and then disappears. I took the truck to the dealership Jim Brown. They connected their computer and said there was no codes to be read. I again had the same message flash up every day. The first time I started the vehicle and would disappear. I took the vehicle back to Jim Brown dealership. They read the code again with an additional approximate 140 miles, and no code appeared on the computer. I was told, then to just let the part fail. Is that putting me and my family in jeopardy possibly fatally by a manufacturer refusing to repair vehicle which has been a known issue before 2017 based on ram TSB advisories that I have in my possession, addressing the issue of the faulty ABS braking system. I have exhausted, all avenues with ram cares and ram dealership to. Please advise where I can go with this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Hydraulic Control Unit controlling the anti-lock brake system failed under warranty. Replaced unit by Dealer. Unit failed again after warranty expired. Now a constant alert stating "service anti - lock brake system" is displayed on the dash. Due to the expense involved I cannot have this fixed. The truck has only 21,000 miles on it. Dealer should repair. No accidents involved but no anti-lock brakes. Truck is a 2018 model.
At 26075 miles 9/10/2020, got error saying service electronic braking system. Dealer diagnosis code C0020-1was HCU (hydraulic control unit) failed; replaced unit part number 68143491AA. Problem solved. At 34412 miles 5/31/22, got same error stating to service electronic braking system. Dealer diagnosed code C0020-1, HCU failed. They replaced part number 68143491AA, again problem solved. At 40,125 miles, 8/30/2023 same error message. I will be taking to dealer, but parts are not available until February 2024 or later. When this unit fails, ABS is disabled, as well as trailer braking and cruise control. This creates a serious danger as the truck is capable of towing a load in excess of 17000 lbs. using the same part that appears to have an issue is not the solution.
ABS LIGHT COMING ON AND GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING.
Abs and electronic control system lights intermittently come on and off constantly and have been for 25,000 miles. When it started happening Chrysler knew what the problem was hcu and abs module is malfunctioning but unfortunately no parts were available and couldn’t tell me when they would be available. I’m just now putting in the complaint due to just learning about this site.

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE SHIFT ARM WOULD NOT MOVE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND FOOT BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. SEEMED LIKE THE SAFETY DEVICE THAT PREVENTS AN AUTOMATIC SHIFTING ARM FROM SLIPPING OUT OF PARK WITHOUT BRAKE DEPRESSED DID NOT RELEASE. VEHICLE WAS ON FLAT LEVEL GROUND, THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT PROBLEM REQUIRED SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTING. ONCE THIS PROCESS WAS CONDUCTED THE SAFETY DEVICE OPERATED NORMALLY. IN THE THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND EACH TIME MY RESOLUTION WORKED. *TR

WHEN HITTING BUMPS OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH THE TRUCK WILL SOMETIMES START SHUDDERING AND VIBRATING VIOLENTLY ALMOST CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT DOES NOT DO IT ON ALL BUMPS OR ROUGH ROADS. IT SEEMS TO BE MORE FREQUENT WHEN HITTING A BUMP IN A CURVE OR HITTING A BUMP WITH FIRST ONE WHEEL THEN THE OPPOSITE WHEEL HITS ONE. IT DOES THIS LOADED OR UNLOADED AND HAS DONE IT WHILE PULLING A 16000 POUND FIFTH WHEEL RV. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 16000 MILES ON IT AND HAS DONE IT ABOUT 10 TIMES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. I HAVE IT BACK IN THE SHOP AT A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND HAVE STARTED A TICKET WITH CHRYSLER. SO FAR THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING.
The Anti-lock Braking System module and the Hydraulic Control Unit originally equipped on 2018 Dodge Ram 3500. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Problem has been identified in 2020 by dealership upon delivery when issue first presented itself, and fixed by dealership. Issue came back in January 2023. I took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the module was sent to have fixed. When the part was sent back after repair, the problem wasn't fixed. There were no known issues prior to the failure.
SAFETY RECALL V06 / NHTSA 19V-021 DRAG LINK - JANUARY 25, 2019 THIS SO CALLED FIX IS ABHORRENT! IT CALLS FOR WELDING AN ADJUSTABLE PART OF THE STEERING LINKAGE RENDERING IT NON- ADJUSTABLE WHEN HAVING THE FRONT END ALIGNED IN THE FUTURE. NOT TO MENTION THE EFFECT OF WELDING, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A PROBLEM WITH THE INTEGRITY OF THE METAL. THE CORRECT FIX FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THIS STEERING LINKAGE COMPONENT, THE ENTIRE DRAG LINK! NOT DO A "BACK YARD, SHADE TREE MECHANIC" WELD JOB ON THE STEERING LINKAGE OF ALL THINGS! I AM APPALLED THAT NHTSA APPROVED SUCH A THING. PLEASE REVISIT THIS ISSUE AND DO THE RIGHT THING. REQUIRE CHRYSLER (FCA US LLC) TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART WITH THE PROPER PART. NOTE.... CHRYSLER IS NOT WELDING THE NUTS ON THE DRAG LINKS ON TRUCKS COMING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE! THEY ARE COMING OFF WITH PROPER, SAFE, ADJUSTABLE DRAG LINKS! SIGNED, OWNER OF A 2018 RAM 3500 WHICH I ORDERED AND PURCHASED NEW.
