This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain RAM ProMaster Trailer Light Modules, part number 68229650AB. These accessory modules were sold for installation on RAM ProMaster and ProMaster City vehicles. The Trailer Tow Lighting Control Module may have a software error on the affected vehicles and can prevent illumination of the trailer brake lights during brake actuation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
Remedy Status
Chrysler will mail letters to owners to try to notify the purchasers of the modules, and dealers will replace the Trailer Tow Light Control Modules, free of charge. The recall began on June 20, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S29.
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Engine loss power, vehicle will completely shut down as if it did not have a battery, this has happed with in the last 6 months, vehicle will restart after a few minutes, engine light will come on, engine service transmission service and hill holder service warning on dash which has been service by dealer. This is a on and off issue which is a dangerous safety hazard for driver and other vehicles.
Tcm module lost communication from the battery . Causing the car to shift to neutral at stop. Yes it was fixed in 2016 but not fixed correctly . The wires are still corroded . There was a transmission info light came on and went to limp mode

I PURCHASED VEHICLE USED ON 2/14/2018. CARFAX STATED NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS. AFTER ABOUT ONE YEAR, VERY OCCASIONALLY, WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE GEAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE UNTIL THE PROCESS WAS REPEATED. JUST RECENTLY, WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING, BOTH "SERVICE ENGINE" AND "TRANSMISSION" WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASH. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND AN OCCASIONAL STALL. THIS OBVIOUSLY CREATED A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME AND THE OTHER DRIVERS IN MY AREA. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL RAM DEALERSHIP (PEACOCK - BLUFFTON, SC) AND (AFTER 5 DAYS) WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW "TRANSAXLE RANGE SENSOR WIRING HARNESS" ($700. +/-) AND A POWERTRAIN SOFTWARE UPDATE (WARRANTY). SOME RESEARCH REVEALED A RECALL BY FIAT-CHRYSLER (8/2016) FOR THE WIRING HARNESS - S55 / NHTSA 16V-529. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, FIAT-CHRYSLER WILL ONLY HONOR THIS RECALL FOR A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS FROM DATE OF ISSUE. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED THAT NHTSA REQUIRES RECALLS BE HONORED FOR A "REASONABLE" AMOUNT OF TIME, SUGGESTING THAT 10 YEARS IS "REASONABLE". THIS IS DAY #8 AS THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN A BAY AT THE DEALERSHIP. I AM LOOKING FROM SOME GUIDANCE ON HOW TO PROCEED.
VEHICLE WAS JUS IDLING IN PARK I SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING FEW DAYS LATER VEHICLE RAN HOT AND FAN NO LONGER WORKS
A COVER ON THE TRANSAXLE, AT THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE, WAS DISCOVERED, BY A DEALERSHIP WHILE PERFORMING A RECALL REPAIR OF THE COOLING FAN, TO HAVE A HOLE IN IT AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. IT WAS DISCOVERED IN THE DEALERSHIP'S SHOP. NOW BEING REPAIRED BY A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 30MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN 1 WEEK AFTER DEALER FIXED THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY AND SENSOR. THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE SINCE JUNE OF THIS YEAR. CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED 4 TIMES AND STILL HAVING ISSUES. WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON THE CAR LOSES POWER. WHEN GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED THERE IS NO RESPONSE. THE RPM MATCHES THE SPEED
CAR WAS HESITATING WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP. ONCE IN A WHILE THE CAR WOULD JERK BACK OR FORWARD. WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER. THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 5 MPH. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER WHERE HE CHECKED THE LIGHT CODE AND CAME BACK AS TRANSMISSION SENSOR ISSUE. DEALER RESET THE CODE AND I WAS OK FOR A WEEK. CODE CAME BACK ON WHILE DRIVING. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE CODE CAME BACK AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY GAVE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER TO LOOK AT AND THEY FOUND THAT IT WAS A BAD VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THE CAR FOR A MONTH NOW AS THEY WAIT FOR THE BACK ORDERED PART. ALL TIMES THE LIGHT CAME ON I WAS ON A STREET OR ROUTE DOING UNDER 50 WHILE DRIVING FORWARD
VAN STOP RUNNING WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. PULL OVER AND CHECK BATTERY CONNECTION, WIGGLE WIRE, RETURN TO VAN AND IT RESTARTS. THIS HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. I AFRAID TO GET ON THE EXPRESS WAY.
CREAKY SUSPENSION. DEALER DIAGNOSIS: CAUSED BY FAULTY SWAY BAR END LINKS.
VAN LOSES ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN DRIVEN AND STALLS. THIS IS WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GO STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD. THIS IS A OFF AND ON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN TO THE MAINTENANCE SHOP WHO COULD FIND ANYTHING NOR CODES. SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT TO A DEALER, THEY TELL US THE SAME THING. NO CODES AND IT DROVE FINE WITH NO ISSUES. WELL, I HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES DRIVING IT AND IT HAS DONE THE SAME THING A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES. IT IS A POWER ISSUE AS THE CLOCK/RADIO RESETS EACH TIME IT HAPPENS! DEALERSHIP HAS ONLY DROVE IT FOR 10 MINUTES. IT HAS STALLED AFTER WE'VE USED IT 4-5 HOURS IN THE DAY.
ENGINE WONT CRANK OVER WHEN TURNING IGNITION SWITCH. PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 3 WEEKS AND STILL NO PARTS. WAS INFORMED THERE ARE OVER 300 ON BACK ORDER.
EXPERIENCES DANGEROUS STALLING AND LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER TO ENGINE DURING DRIVING. THIS CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS IS SPECIFICALLY A SYMPTOM OF ONE OF THE MANY RECALLS SUPPOSEDLY PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE ALREADY. I BELIEVE THE RECALL REPAIR PREVIOUSLY WAS NOT COMPLETED PROPERLY BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS 10 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM PROMASTER CITY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFTED FROM DRIVE OR REVERSE TO NEUTRAL, AND LOCKED INTO NEUTRAL SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V202000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN). THE DEALER (COLONIAL DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP, 24 COOLIDGE ST, HUDSON, MA 01749, (978) 568-8000) WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF AND THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY MAY BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON JANUARY 4, 2018. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RADIATOR FAN 68360299AA FAIL AND THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 42 K MILES AND I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINS ON THE INTERNET MY VEHICULAR LE WAS RUNNING WHEN THIS HAPPEN
HAD VEHICLE SERVICED FOR A COOLING FAN RELAY AFTER VEHICLE DISPLAYED A P0481 TROUBLE CODE. DEALER SERVICED AND REPLACED FAN RELAY. VEHICLE OVERHEATED APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES LATER DUE TO A DEFECTIVE COOLING FAN. THE FAN MELTED AND SMOKED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S TEMPERATURE TO RISE RAPIDLY. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND THAT 3,000 VEHICLES ARE CURRENTLY WAITING TO BE SERVICED WITH THIS PARTICULAR PART DUE TO IT'S HIGH RATE OF FAILURE. ESTIMATED REPAIR TIME OF 2 MONTHS. STILL WAITING FOR PART TO GET DELIVERED. THE PRESENCE OF SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD AND UNUSUALLY HIGH DEMAND FOR REPAIR INDICATES TO ME THAT CLEARLY THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.
WE OWN A 2015 RAM PROMASTER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PARK THE CAR. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR BUT IT DIDN'T TURN ON. RETURNED AFTER 4 HOURS AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO START. ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON. ROUGHLY 15,000 MILES ON VEHICLE.
WE OWN A 2015 RAM PROMASTERS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. TECH EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. ON THE DASH APPEARED A YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A RED SYMBOL ( ! ). A MESSAGE READ "SERVICE REQUIRED - TRANSMISSION SERVICE". AS THE TECH ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE FREEWAY, AFRAID THAT THE VAN MIGHT STALL WITH INCOMING TRAFFIC. HE MADE A SAFE EXIT OFF THE FREEWAY. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF IGNITION AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR IN HOPES THAT THE TROUBLE WOULD CLEAR. THE RED SYMBOL ( ! ) DISAPPEARED AND POWER WAS RESTORED. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO COMPANY.
