MY ION HAS HAD CONTINUOUS STEERING AND SUSPENSION PROBLEMS SINCE 2009. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING MOTOR (WARNING LIGHT COMES ON - LOSS OF POWER STEERING) AND HAD THE STEERING MOTOR REPLACED. I HAVE REPLACED THE SWAY BAR, CONTROL ARMS, LINK, AND MUCH MORE. AND, I STILL HAVE DIFFICULTIES STEERING - HAVE A CONSTANT CLUNCKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END AND NOW HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED THE RACK & PINION REPLACED - ESTIMATED COST $550. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 82,000 MILES. THE STEERING & SUSPENSION PROBLEMS BEGAN IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VEHICLE HIT 50,000 MILES. *TR
2006 SATURN ION WAS TRAVELING THROUGH A FLAT CURVE AT 45 MPH WHEN THE STEERING FROZE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPIN AND LEFT THE ROAD STRIKING TREES AND BRUSH CAUSING SOME PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. NO WARNING SIGNALS WERE SEEN OR HEARD AT OR BEFORE THE EVENT. THE DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL WHEN IT CAME TO REST AND WAS DRIVEN BACK ON TO THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE ENGINE AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V047000 (AIR BAGS , ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER , THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
I BOUGHT MY CAR USED OFF OF A USED CAR LOT, THE POWER STEERING WAS RECALLED AND IT GOT FIX, BUT NOW THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS MESSED UP. MY CAR ALARM WILL GO OFF ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT, THE WINDOWS WONT ROLL ALL THE WAY UP AND THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND I CAN'T TURN MY CAR OFF. MY DRUM BRAKES ON THE BACK ABSOLUTELY SHATTERED ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRUM. *TR
PWR STEERING FAIL WHILE DRIVING. CAR DINGS AND DISPLAYS THE PWR STEERING CODE IN DASH. KNOWN ISSUE BY GM. TOOK IT TO DEALER TODAY, THEY SAID THEY'LL FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE BASED ON 10187A SPECIAL POLICY. IT ONLY COVERS THE MOTOR/MODULE AND NOT THE STEERING COLUMN. I AM AFRAID THAT THEY ARE GOING TO RIP ME OFF BY SIMPLY SAYING THE WHOLE COLUMN IS THE PROBLEM SO I'M OUT A LOT OF MONEY. BASED ON RESEARCH AND COMPLAINTS GM RECALLED OTHER CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IF THEY USED THE SAME PART AND THEY WERE RECALLED IN OTHER MODELS THEN THE SATURN ONE SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED. IT WAS VERY SCARY LOSING POWER STEERING. GM NEEDS TO MAKE SATURN OWNERS "WHOLE" BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN VARIOUS ISSUES ALREADY. I REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH TWICE, THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK AND SOMETIMES WOULD NOT START. *TR
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH MY SATURN ION SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. FIRST THERE WAS A PURGE SOLENOID THAT WENT OUT ON MY CAR WHICH AFFECTED HOW I STARTED IT. THEN MY KEY GOT STUCK IN MY IGNITION WITH THE CAR ON! I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE AND THE BATTERY TO GET THE CAR OFF. A MONTH LATER OF DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO USE THE KEY, I ORDERED A NEW PART FOR IT AND HAD A FRIEND REBUILD THE IGNITION IN THE CAR AND NOW ONLY MY SPARE KEY TO THE CAR WILL WORK. NOW THE MOST RECENT ISSUE TO DATE IS THE FUEL PUMP. I STARTED SMELLING GAS ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND IT GRADUALLY GOT WORSE OVER TIME. TOOK IT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THERE IS NOW GAS LEAKING ONTO MY GAS TANK AND GASOLINE IS ALSO POOLING UNDER MY CAR! HUGE PROBLEM! MY FRIEND SAYS IT IS THE FUEL PUMP THAT IS GOING OUT ON THE CAR AND I DO SEE THAT IT IS UNDER RECALL BUT I DON'T THINK MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE RECALL WHICH IS RIDICULOUS! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
VEHICLE OPERATOR TRIED TO TURN OFF MOTOR WHILE IN A PAID PARKING LOT. KEY WAS STUCK IN IGNITION AND CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. DEALER STATIONS WERE CLOSED AT TIME OF INCIDENT. OPERATOR RETURNED 30 MILES HOME AFTER VARIOUS ATTEMPTS TO REMOVE KEY AND A FAMILY MEMBER DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. NEXT DAY THE BATTERY WAS RECONNECTED AND OPERATOR WENT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, HOUSING AND KEY WERE REPLACED FOR $461.47 PLUS TAX. *TR
A NEW IGN LOCK CYLINDER WAS REPLACED AT FIRESTONE IN DUBUQUE, IOWA, BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF EVEN WITH THE KEY EXTRACTED FROM THE IGNITGION. THE CAR HAD BEEN SHUTTING DOWN WHILE OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK. REPAIR COST $374.26 OUR DAUGHTER BEING AT COLLEGE DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR MUCH THE REST OF THE MONTH AND CAME HOME TO DECORAH, IOWA, AND ON THE WAY HOME AND WHILE HOME THE CAR CONTINUED TO SHUT ITSELF OFF, WITH THE LAST TIME BEING ON A HILL SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING SPACE, BUT THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN DECORAH, WHERE REPORT SHOWS: CHECKED FOR CODES B1443 DEVISE IGNITION OFF, RUN AND CRANK, B2957; SECURITY SYSTEM SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE, B2958 SECURITY SYSTEM; DATA HIGH, B1441, CHECKED FUSES AND WIRING( ALL WORKED AT THIS TIME);REMOVED AND REPLACED BODY CONTROL MODULE, PROGRAMMED MODULE, AND RELEARNED THEFT DETERENT, CLEARED COADES AND TEST DROVE, $852.50 COST OF REPAIR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE KEYS BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY BECAME LODGED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. ONCE THE IGNITION WAS TURNED ON, THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART INDEPENDENTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE KEY AND THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF ALL OF THE WARNING GAUGES. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE IT WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION II. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY BECAME LODGED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND HE UNABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
STEERING WHEEL BECAME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THEN POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT AND DANGEROUS. TOOK TO A MECHANIC AND WAS ESTIMATED $600-$800 TO REPLACE NECESSARY PARTS. I NEARLY HIT ANOTHER CAR AND ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN FROM BEING UNABLE TO STEER MY OWN CAR. *TR
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I GOT HOME TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WORKED BUT THEN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINUTES. *TR

THE DRIVER MERGED OFF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED NOR WAS THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
NEITHER THE EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL DOOR HANDLES WILL ALLOW ONE OR MORE DOORS TO OPEN. MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR JUST STOPPED WORKING FROM THE EXTERNAL/INTERNAL DOOR HANDLES. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY WHERE I MIGHT NEED TO GET OUT OF MY CAR IN A TIMELY MANNER IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE AS I WOULD HAVE TO CLIMB OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO GET OUT. IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED AND BOTH DOORS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AROUND THE SAME TIME SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE TO CRAWL OUT THE CARS WINDOWS IN ORDER TO GET OUT. IN THE EXTREME SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND BOTH DOORS AT THE SAME TIME YOU COULD BE TRAPPED IN YOUR CAR UNTIL RESCUE PERSONAL ARRIVED. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE SHOULD NOT BE A SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE ON A DOOR HANDLES THAT WOULD CAUSE BOTH THE EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL HANDLES TO NO LONGER FUNCTION AS REQUIRED AND CAUSE THE DOOR TO OPEN. I HAVE DONE WEB SEARCHES FOR THIS AND IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE FIX IS YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO SOMEONE THAT COULD SPEND UPWARDS OF 4 OR MORE HOURS TO GET THE DOOR OPENED BEFORE THEY CAN EVEN START TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF GM/SATURN CAN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN AN ACCEPTABLE MANNER THEN SHOULD AT LEAST COVER THE COST OF FIXING THE PROBLEM EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS. *TR
DROVE TO LOCAL MARKET, 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOME, KEY STUCK IN ON POSITION, COULD NOT TURN CAR OFF, DROVE BACK HOME, CONTACTED ON-STAR ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE-FUSE TO DISENGAGE FUEL PUMP WAS PULLED AND BATTERY DISCONNECTED (IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE CAR)-CAR TOWED TO GM DEALER REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION SWITCH WITH CORE DRILLING TO FIX VEHICLE-COST $340.00 PLUS COST OF RENTAL CAR FOR 2 DAYS! *TR
WITH REGARDS TO THE 2006 SATURN ION, MY ION HAS SUFFERED THREE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN THE COMPLAIN SECTION OF THE NHTSA WEB SITE. {1} FUEL LEAKING FROM FUEL PUMP AREA. {2} IGNITION KEY GETS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION CAR CAN NOT BE SHUT OFF. {3} POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING WHILE CAR IS RUNNING MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER. WITH REGARDS TO THE LAST PROBLEM I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A G.M. DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR AT NO CHARGE.TELLING ME IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP MODULATOR. I AM NOW FIGHTING WITH GM TO TRY AND GET MY MONEY BACK. WITH REGARDS TO THE STICKING KEY IN THE IGNITION I BELIEVE THAT IF WE GET ENOUGH COMPLAINANTS MAYBE NHTSA CAN DO SOMETHING. IF YOU HAVE SUFFERED ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS AND HAVE NOT REPAIRED YOUR AUTO PLEASE HEAD STRAIGHT TO YOUR LOCAL GM DEALER . IF YOU HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS OUT OF YOUR POCKET YOUR GM DEALER HAS PROPER PAPERWORK FOR YOU TO SUBMIT. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED. IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
OCCASIONALLY THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AFTER IGNITION. SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V118000. *TR
DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO SHUT OFF CAR WHEN PARKING. KEY WOULD NOT TURN AND CAR REMAINED RUNNING. VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN TO LOCAL GM SERVICE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT KEY WAS STUCK. SERVICE ORDER CAUSE WAS LISTED AS "FOUND IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FROZEN". DEALER DID MANAGE TO REMOVE AND REPLACE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER. CUSTOMER PAID FOR REPAIR. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
THE PWR STR MESSAGE APPEARS AND THEN THE STEERING GOES OUT. TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT 10 MINUTES, AND THE POWER STEERING WORKS AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE HAD REPEATED INSTANCES OF HAVING MY STEERING COLUMN LOCKING WHILE PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF. UPON INSERTING THE IGNITION KEY, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN WITHOUT REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO ROCK THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. BEGINNING ON THE INCIDENT DATE, I PARKED MY CAR AND THE IGNITION KEY WOULD NOT TURN FROM THE ON POSITION. I VERIFIED THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE KEY AGAIN. AT ONE POINT, I WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. AFTER REINSERTING THE KEY INTO THE LOCK ASSEMBLY AND PUSHING IN ON IT, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION. ALL SUBSEQUENT INCIDENTS WITHIN THE LAST 24 HOURS (APPROXIMATELY 4 DIFFERENT TIMES) HAVE REQUIRED ME TO JIGGLE THE KEY UNTIL IT WOULD FINALLY TURN TO THE OFF POSITION. I DROVE IT TO A GM REPAIR FACILITY AND AT THAT POINT, WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY OR TURN OFF THE ENGINE. IT NOW APPEARS THAT I WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE ENTIRE IGNITION LOCK AND HOUSING ASSEMBLY REPLACED AT A COST OF $600. FURTHER ONLINE INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM HAS TURNED UP HUNDREDS OF SATURN OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND MANY OF THEM HAVE REPEAT ISSUES WITH THEIR NEW LOCK/HOUSING ASSEMBLIES. TO DATE, IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT GM HAS ISSUED ANY RECALL/REPAIR NOTICES FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS LEAKING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM SCHOOL ALL OF A SUDDEN THE LOW FUEL CAME UP SO I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK AND THEN IT WENT EMPTY BY THE TIME I GOT HOME FROM GRIFFIN. WHEN I CUT THE CAR OFF I GOT OUT AND SAW GAS LEAKING FROM UNDER MY CAR AND SAW THE LONG TRAIL OF GAS THAT I HAD TRAILED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE AND ARRIVING AT DESTINATION, THE NORMAL ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF IGNITION AND VACATE VEHICLE FAILED INSOMUCH THAT IGNITION KEY FAILED TO TURN TO THE OFF POSITION DUE TO A STUCK IGNITION CYLINDER. INTERNET SEARCHES HAS REVEALED A CHRONIC TREND FOR THIS FAILURE AND TYPICAL REPAIR COSTS AT DEALERSHIPS AVERAGE OVER $400. IF THIS FAILURE SHOULD OCCUR AT AN ACCIDENT SCENE WHERE THERE IS SPILLED FUEL THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE LIFE THREATENING. ON JUNE 21, 2013 PULLED INTO PARKING LOT AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN ENGINE OFF. KEY WAS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE KEY BUT COULD NOT. CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. IN ORDER TO TURN CAR OFF HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE PLUG FROM THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. ALSO HAD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY IN ORDER TO NOT HAVE EVERYTHING ELSE CONTINUE TO RUN AND KILL THE BATTERY. I TOOK IT TO MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE KEY IGNITION BUT NOW THE CAR WILL NOT START. SEEMS LIKE ITS AN ELECTRICAL OR SECURITY PROBLEM WITHIN THE ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 SATURN ION ON A LOCAL STREET, PICKING UP MY CHILD FROM SCHOOL, WHEN THE IGNITION WENT OFF. THE CAR HAD NO POWER & I HAD ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO STEER THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE BEFORE THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL & COASTED TO A STOP. IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES THE IGNITION WOULD GO OF BY ITSELF. IT FELT AS IF THE KEY WAS NOT STAYING IN THE ON POSITION. NOT BEING AWARE OF A WARRANTY FROM SATURN, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. WHEN THE MECHANIC TRIED TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF OR COME OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. HE WAS FORCED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IN ORDER TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF & NEEDED TO REPLACE THE PART IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHERE THE KEY GOES IN. BECAUSE THE MECHANIC HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, I WAS ALSO FORCED TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW DAYS LATER TO HAVE MY REMOTE LOCK REPROGRAMMED. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR BOTH OF THESE REPAIRS, BECAUSE I WAS UNAWARE THAT GM HAD A SPECIAL WARRANTY COVERING SUCH ISSUES. IN AUGUST OF 2008 AT APPX 37000 MILES, THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED IN THE 'RUN' POSITION. SINCE THE CAR WAS A MANUAL, I STALLED IT OUT AND CALLED A LOCKSMITH, WHO COULD NOT REMOVE OR TURN THE KEY EITHER.
