AT ANY RATE OF SPEED, THE ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING MOTOR WILL SHUT OFF LEAVING THE DRIVER TO USE BRUTE FORCE TO STEER THE CAR RIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL "LOCKS" TO THE LEFT AND THE CAR WILL NATURALLY DRIFT THAT DIRECTION, REQUIRING ADDITIONAL FORCE TO HOLD THE CAR WITHIN THE DRIVING LANE. *TR
MY WIFE LEFT WORK AND STOPPED BY THE STORE ON THE WAY HOME, BUT COULD NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF. SHE DROVE HOME WHERE THE CAR CONTINUE TO RUN UNTIL I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLE TO FINALLY DISABLE THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER WAS REPLACED, NEW KEY CODED AT A COST OF $396.17. SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS OF SUCH A NATURE, I HAVE DONE ONLINE SEARCHES AND HAVE FOUND THOUSANDS OF THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE ISSUE CONTINUES TO THIS DAY ALONG WITH THE SEALS AROUND THE DOORS AND WINDOWS LEAKING. THIS AUTOMOTIVE COMPANY WAS BAILED OUT BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH OUR TAX MONEY, ONLY TO LIE TO THE AMERICAN CAR BUYERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR FLAWED PRODUCTS. IF THE NHTSA DOES NOT DESIGNATE THIS AS A RECALL STATUS, THEN IT IS TIME FOR US SATURN OWNERS WHO WERE SOLD THESE FLAWED VEHICLES TO UNITE AND FILE A MAJOR CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR MORE MONEY THAN GENERAL MOTORS RECEIVED IN THE BAILOUT OF THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY. *TR
ON JUNE 25TH 2011 I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM MY 2007 SATURN ION. I NOTICED THE SMELL IS STRONGEST NEAR THE REAR DRIVER TIRE VERY CLOSE TO THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. KNOWING ALREADY THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2007 SATURN IONS I CONTACTED THEM IMMEDIATELY. THEY TOLD ME THAT MINE IS NOT INCLUDING IN ANY RECALL AND NO EXCEPTION WOULD BE MADE. I WILL HAVE TO TRY TO FIND A FUEL PUMP MODULE AND REPLACE IT. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET BUT I DO HAVE TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE REPAIRS CAN BE MADE. I FEEL AS THOUGH SINCE IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES IT SHOULD BE COVERED. *TR
ELECTRIC STEERING WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AND I CAME VERY CLOSE TO GOING INTO A VERY STEEP DITCH AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SO HARD IN TURNING. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT HURT, IF ANYONE LESS STRONG THAN I WAS DRIVING THEY WOULD MOST CERTAINLY BE IN THE 8 FOOT STEEP DITCH...
I HAVE A 2007 SATURN ION AND WAS DRIVING HOME ON MONDAY, JUNE 20, 2011 AT AROUND 7:30PM WHEN MY CAR NOTIFIED ME THAT THE PWR STR (POWER STEERING) WAS HAVING ISSUES AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME BECAUSE IT WAS JUST A STRAIGHT DRIVE AND DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE ANY TURNS. I GOT HOME AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE FOLLOWING DAY, TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 2011 SAME THING HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING HOME AT AROUND 7:15 THE MESSAGE CAME ON AND MY STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED. AGAIN I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED AND WORKED FINE. I HAVE NOW SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL SERVICE REPAIR SHOP FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE CHECKED OVER/FIXED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2011. *TR
ON JUNE 19TH 2011 MY 2007 SATURN ION WOULDN'T SHUT OFF THE IGNITION WAS LOCKED INTO THE RUN POSITION. SINCE MY VEHICLE IS A STICK I SIMPLY KILLED IT BUT THE ELECTRONIC ACCESSORIES WERE STILL STUCK ON. I HAD TO GO PURCHASE A NEW IGNITION CYLINDER AND INSTALL IT IN ORDER TO GET MY VEHICLE WORKING AGAIN. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND WAS RECALLED ON OTHER GM VEHICLES THAT SHARE THE SAME PLATFORM BUT NOT ON THE SATURN IONS. *TR
POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING AT RANDOM TIMES, SOMETIMES WHEN MAKING TURNS AND IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, PARTICULARLY AT SPEEDS BELOW 30 MPH. I CONTACTED THE GM DEALER THAT REPRESENTS SATURN BUT WAS TOLD SINCE THE CAR HAS 115,014 MILES ON IT THE VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT FROM GM. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION CYLINDER UNIT REPLACEMENT PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE COULD NOT TURN THE ENGINE OFF, OR REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE IGNITION *TGW THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND HOUSING WERE REPLACED. *JB
WHILE NEGOTIATING A LEFT TURN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALMOST CAUSING MY WIFE TO HIT THE ONCOMING CAR HEADON. *TR
NOTICEABLE GAS SMELL AROUND THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE'S GAS TANK WHICH BECAME WORSE WHILE DRIVING. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. EVENTUALLY, AFTER REMOVING THE FUEL TANK, THEY FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK TO BE A FAULTY FUEL PUMP MODULE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS AND THERE IS A RECALL IN EFFECT (09V419000), BUT IT ONLY APPLIES TO VEHICLES THAT ARE SOLD OR REGISTERED IN CERTAIN STATES. I FEEL LIMITING A RECALL TO A CERTAIN AREA IS WRONG. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE. I BELIEVE THAT SATURN (GM) SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY VEHICLES THAT ARE AT RISK FOR THIS DEFECT AND SHOULD REIMBURSE THE OWNERS FOR ANY RELATED REPAIRS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED TO CERTAIN STATES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REMOVE SEVERAL FUSES AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. NO FORMAL REPAIRS WERE MADE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 64,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR INTERMITTENTLY FAILS ON MY 2007 SATURN ION. AFTER DOING MUCH RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO QUITE A FEW PEOPLE, AND THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT. AN INCIDENT HAS NOT OCCURRED AT THIS TIME, BUT VERY LIKELY CAN IF MY POWER STEERING GOES WHILE MAKING A TIGHT TURN AT HIGH SPEEDS. *KB
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2007 SATURN ION 2 GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY AND MAKES THE CAR VERY HARD TO STEER, PRESENTING A SAFETY HAZARD IF OCCURRING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. GM CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL OUT FOR CHEVY COBALTS AND NEEDS TO INCLUDE SATURNS AS THEY WERE MADE WITH THE SAME COMPONENTS. *TR
AFTER ABOUT A YEAR OF HAVING MY SATURN ION I WAS DRIVING ON 94 GOING THE NORMAL SPEED LIMIT WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. MY WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO HOT MY BREAKS UNABLE TO STEER ANOTHER VEHICLE ANS MINE COLLIDED AT 45-50 MPH. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. UNTIL NOW I DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT UNTIL YOU GUYS SENT ME A LETTER ABOUT THE RECALLS ON BOTH THE IGNITION SWITCH (IF MY KEYS FELL OUT MY WHEEL WOULD LOCK) AND OR IF MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT I WOULD LOSE CONTROL AS WELL. I NEVER HAD ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS NOT EVEN A FENDER BENDER. ALSO WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THIS RECALL I WAS TOLD TO BRING MY CAR IN AND GET IT SWITCHED FOR A RENTAL FOR 6-8 WEEKS UNTIL MY CAR WAS FINISHED. WHEN ARRIVING THERE WAS NOT A RENTAL AVAILABLE SO I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE ONE WITHIN THE NEXT 3 DAYS TOPS. I WAITED 5 DAYS AND CALLED DEALERSHIP AGAIN. I WAS THEN TOLD I WOULD BE GETTING A RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE AND BECAUSE OF MY LONG LATE HOURS AT WORK THE VEHICLE WOULD BE DROPPED OFF THAT EVENING TO COME GET AFTER WORK. WHEN ARRIVING THERE THE BALL WAS DROPPED ONCE AGAIN AND I DID NOT HAVE A RENTAL. THE GUY HELPING ME SCRAMBLED AND FOUND A RENTAL SOMEHOW AND SENT ME HOME IN IT AGAIN STATING IT WOULD BE 6-8 WEEKS. 4 DAYS LATER THEY CALLED ME STATING I NEED TO BRING THE RENTAL BACK BECAUSE IT WAS SOLD. AFTER DRIVING ALL THE WAY THERE ONCE AGAIN AND GETTING MY 2ND RENTAL I WAS CALLED THE VERY NEXT DAY SAYING MY VEHICLE WAS DONE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND ALL THE MISCOMMUNICATION AND WHY I HAD TO WASTE MY TIME AND GAS MONEY FOR GMC MAJOR SCREW UPS. THIS RECALL HAS UPSET MY ENOUGH WHERE IM NOT SURE IF I WILL BUY A GM VEHICLE EVER AGAIN. *TR

SHE WAS ABLE TO POWER THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART AS THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000.

POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND HARD TO STEER. TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART AND IT WORKS FOR A SHORT TIME AGAIN. STEERING IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND WOULD BE DISASTROUS ON A TURN. CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN SO FAR. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY SATURN ION AND HIT A SMALL HOLE IN THE ROAD AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO AND EVER SINCE, EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT, THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING ABOUT ONCE EVERY 5 MINUTES THAT I AM DRIVING. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP REPLACING THINGS ON THIS VEHICLE, SO I HAVE BEEN GETTING RIDES FROM OTHER PEOPLE. *TR

APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 59,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RETURNED HOME AND TRIED TO TURN OFF CAR BUT KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE ONLY WAY TO TURN THE CAR OFF WAS TO REMOVE A FUSE AND UNHOOK THE BATTERY. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE AND ON THIS WEBSITE, I FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE POWER STEERING FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THE WHEEL WOULD BECOME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: RQ10004 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
I OPERATE A SATURN ION WHICH HAS A CONSTANT FUEL LEAK AT ALL TIMES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO A FIRE IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS NEARBY. I GET A CONTINUOUS GAS SMELL AS SOON AS I ENTER THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE IT TO WORK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE ENGINE CUT OUT POWER STEERING WENT OFF, ELECTRICITY WENT OUT. MY CAR KEPT DOING THIS UNTIL I ONLY DRIVE WITH ONE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I AM WORRIED IT SOUNDS SIMILAR TO RECENTLY RECALLED 2005-2007 COBALTS IGNITION. *TR
I JUST HAD TO HAVE MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED AFTER ONLY 20K MILES ON MY SATURN ION 2007 DUE TO THE SMELL OF GAS AND LEAKING ON TOP OF THE PUMP, I WAS TOLD BY A GM DEALER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS 09226 FUEL ODOR OR SPOTTING ON GROUND-REPLACE FUEL PUMP. MY PROBLEM IS THAT DUE TO THE LOCATION I AM AT ILLINOIS I AM NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP. I READ THE RECALL AND IT IS ONLY INVOLVING THE STATES THAT ARE CONSIDERED HOT. (IT DOES GET INTO THE 90S-100 IN ILLINOIS ALSO. ALL SOMEBODY HAD TO DO WAS THROW/DROP A MATCH AND IT COULD HAVE IGNITED A FIRE IN THE CAR. THIS ALSO CAUSED HEADACHES WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE GAS FUMES I HAD TO INHALE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I WAS HOPING THIS WAS A GOOD AVENUE TO TAKE AND HAVE SOMEONE LOOK INTO WHY AND WHEN ILLINOIS AND OTHER STATES WERE GOING TO BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME DANGER NO MATTER WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INFORMING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE NEXT EXIT AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS ON A DAILY BASIS. LACK OF POWER STEERING HAS CAUSED MODERATE COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT UPCOMING WINTER MONTHS AND NAVIGATING TREACHEROUS CONDITIONS WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF POWER STEERING. PRICE OF LABOR AND PART FOR A KNOWN AND WELL DOCUMENTED FAULTY PART IS UNREASONABLE FOR AVERAGE SATURN ION OWNER. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 SATURN ION 2 WITH APPROXIMATELY 23000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING GOT REAL HARD. THERE WAS A CHIME AND THE ODOMOTER READ "PWR STER". I CALLED SATURN AND THEY SAID TO TAKE IT TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THEY MAY HELP. DO MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE? ALL SATURN/GM IS DOING IS TRYING TO DODGE THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES. NO VEHICLE WITH THIS LOW OF MILAGE SHOUD BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. SATURN NEED TO RECALL ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS STERING SYSTEM AND FIX IT OR THE NEXT TIME THERE COULD BE LAWSUITS FILED. I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT AND IT IS BACK TO NORMAL. *TR

I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY FROM MY WORKPLACE TO HOME WHEN MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE MESSAGE DISPLAY AREA. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING WAS THEN FINE. FOR ONE WEEK I HAD NO PROBLEMS. THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WHEN I SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR IT WAS FINE AGAIN. NOW EVERY TIME I DRIVE FOR A FEW MINUTES THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND I HAVE TO PULL OVER. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER MADE THE CONTACT AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP) RECALL, BUT THE VIN WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,080 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
AS I DRIVE MY 2007 SATURN ION I GET A "PWR STR" FAILURE NOTICE ON THE DASHBOARD ANNUNCIATION PANEL. THE POWER STEERING THEN QUITS AND IT TAKES MUCH MORE MUSCLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I AM PURCHASING A 2007 SATURN ION 3. WHEN I DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD SOMETIMES YOU WILL HEAR A DING, PWR STR SHOWS UP WHERE THE ODOMETER IS, AND I LOSE MY POWER STEERING. I STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF THEN ON AND I HAVE POWER STEERING BACK. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SATURN SAYING THAT THIS MIGHT BECOME A PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD REPAIR IT IF THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND 100,000 MILES OR LESS. OF COURSE MY SATURN CONVENIENTLY IS OVER 100K MILES. I CALLED SATURN AND ALL THEY WOULD SAY IS THAT I CAN GO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND THEY MIGHT HELP ME. GM HAS RECALLED THE COBALT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. 14 PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WHY ISN'T GM RECALLING SATURN IONS FOR THIS PROBLEM? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, THE KEY WOULD REMAIN STUCK AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO POWER THE VEHICLE OFF. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2007 SATURN ION FROZE WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. I STRONG-ARMED THE WHEEL TO MOVE IT FROM THE TRAFFIC LANE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. 2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER STATES THAT HIS STARTER WAS ABLE TO ALLOW WATER OR SALT BRINE INTO THE STARTER DURING WINTER CONDITIONS. HIS VEHICLE LEFT HIM AND HIS THREE YEAR OLD STRANDED IN COLD WEATHER BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. *KB THE ENTRY OF WATER AND/OR SALT INTO THE STARTER STOPPED THE STARTER FROM ROTATING THE ENGINE.

IT IS NOW ALSO HAVING THE POWER STEERING SIGNAL COMING ON THE DASH. THE STICKING KEY STARTED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, WHILE THE ENGINE CONTINUING TO RUN AND THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN THE PAST WEEK. *TR

BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
