POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON 2007 SATURN ION. *TR
POWER SEERING INDICATOR CAME ON IN THE DISPLAY (NOT THE LOW FLUID WARNING LIGHT) AND POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY RETURNS FOR A VARIABLE LENGTH OF TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW WITH THE TIME BETWEEN INCIDENTS RANGING FROM 5 MINUTES TO SEVERAL HOURS. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH SPEEDS RANGING FROM 25 TO 75 MPH.
INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAULT/FAILURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT CONTROL ARM AND BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 57,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN AURA XE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE IGNITION OFF, IT STARTED TO ROLL BACK IN REVERSE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE SHIFT CABLE WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A BRACKET FOR THE SHIFT CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS MILEAGE 67,000.
SATURN ION2 2007-THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY WENT OUT ON MY CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 3 DEALERSHIPS TO FINALLY GET IT FIXED. HOWEVER GM STATING NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT WAS IN SEPTEMBER HARD TO START DIAG WAS DONE THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG. THEN IN DECEMBER TOOK TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS BY THIS TIME THERE WAS THE SMELL OF GAS GETTING STRONGER. BOTH DEALERSHIPS INDICATED THAT GM DOES NOT COVER MY SPECIFIC VIN# OR CONSIDER IT A DEFECT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE IT WRITTEN IN MY WARRANTY THAT ALL PARTS ARE TO COMPLY WITH EPA WHICH IT DID NOT. I AM CONCERNED OTHERS MAY ALSO HAVE MY DEFECT PROBLEM AND IT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS FIRE OR DEATH. ALL OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED VIA RECALL LETTER FROM GM. *TR

ONCE THE CAR IS RESTARTED POWER STEERING IS FINE AND WHO KNOWS WHEN IT JUST GOES OUT CAUSING STEERING TO BE QUITE DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY DEPENDING ON WHO IS DRIVING THE CAR AND WHEN IT GOES OUT!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN NOT ENGAGED AND THE ALARM WOULD SPORADICALLY SOUND WHEN IT WAS NOT SET. IN ADDITION, THE DOME AND THE MAP LIGHT WOULD SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED, BUT THE PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THREE MONTHS TO MAKE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 02/02/11 *CN
I PURCHASED A 2007 SATURN ION IN AUGUST 2007. APPROX 1-2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALMOST RESULTING IN A CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT, AND THEY PROMPTLY FIXED THE PROBLEM; SO I THOUGHT. NOV 28, 2010 I WAS DRIVING ON THE EISENHOWER EXPRESSWAY AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. BECAUSE IT WAS EARLY SUNDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING THERE WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC. BUT THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE TURNED TRAGIC. I REQUEST THAT INVESTIGATION BE MADE INTO THE 2007 SATURN ION. EVEN THOUGH GM CLOSED THIS PRODUCT LINE (WISH I WOULD'VE KNEW THEIR PLAN BEFORE MY PURCHASE), I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THIS SINGLE INCIDENT, AS THERE COULD BE MANY OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME EXPERIENCE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND PARKED. THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 112,700.
THIS CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE THAT GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR IS FAILING AND THE PWR STRNG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. THE STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT (TWO HANDS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY) FOR A STRONG DRIVER DURING SLOW SHARP TURNS. A POTENTIAL COLLISION IS HIGHLY LIKELY. OTHER COMPLAINTS ARE ON THE WEB WITH MANY PEOPLE AVOIDING DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ALL DUE TO THE INABILITY TO PREDICT OCCURRENCES AND THE IMMEDIATE EFFECT THE LOSS OF POWER HAS. HOW CAN TWO MODELS WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT BE RECALLED (COBALT AND G5) AND NOT THE SATURN ION?
THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHILE TRYING TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF. FINALLY THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE KEY COMES OUT WHILE THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING AND IN THE ON POSITION AND THE CAR IS NOT IN PARK. AFTER SEVERAL REPAIRS, THE IGNITION HOUSING CONTINUES TO FAIL. THE CAR CAN EASILY ROLL OFF AS THE KEY COMES OUT AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK, THE KEY EVEN COMES OUT WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVING OR IN DRIVE. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IS TO MANUALLY REMOVE THE WIRE HARNESS FROM THE BATTERY LOCATED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCKS FAILED. THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LATCH MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
WHEN PLACING VEHICLE IN PARK, THE DOORS REMAIN LOCKED AND KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY SAID MY FACTORY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. I CURRENTLY HAVE 22,500 ON VEHICLE AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 1-1-2008 AS A NEW VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I AM BEING TOLD BY SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THE WARRANTY WENT INTO EFFECT IN 2006 ON THE DAY THAT MY VEHICLE "WAS DELIVERED" TO DEALERSHIP AND OVER A YEAR BEFORE I EVER OWNED IT! WHAT A SCAM! *TR
STARTED DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN ION FROM TAMPA TO ORLANDO. WHEN I NOTICE A VIBRATION THROUGH OUT THE VEHICLE. IT GRADUALLY GREW WORSE SO I PULLED OVER. AT WHICH TIME SOMETHING FLEW OUT FROM UNDER MY CAR. COMING TO A STOP, I CHECKED THE CAR OUT AND SAW NOTHING WRONG. I STARTED DRIVING, IN HOPES TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT, BUT IT DIDN'T. THE VIBRATION GOT RIDICULOUS AND I PULLED OVER TO FIND MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE FLAT. UPON REMOVING THE TIRE, DISCOVERED A LARGE PIECE OF THREADING WAS MISSING ALONG WITH OTHER DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. WHICH IS WHY I DID NOT SEE IT THE FIRST TIME I PULLED OVER. TIRE IS THE GOOD YEAR ASSURANCE. *TR
I OWN A 2007 SATURN ION AND HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING AN IGNITION PROBLEM. EVERYTIME I PARK MY CAR AND TURN THE KEY TO SHUT IT OFF IT GETS "STUCK". NO MATTER HOW I PARK, WIGGLE IT, ETC.. IT GETS STUCK THEN I HAVE TO SIT THERE ANYWHERE FROM 30SEC-HOURS BEFORE IT WILL RELEASE. I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL SATURN AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEPARTMENT (1HR AWAY) AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG THEY TOLD ME IT MUST BE SPILT SODA IN THE SHIFTER AND CLEANED THE INSIDE OF MY SHIFTER AND CHARGED $90. TO ONLY DRIVE AN HOUR HOME AND HAVE IT KEEP HAPPENING! SATURN WILL NOT HELP AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO AVOID A VEHICLE THAT WAS STOPPED IN THE ROADWAY, THE IGNITION KEY BECAME JARRED AND MOVED TO THE OFF POSITION, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SWITCH LANES; HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE PARKED VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, SHOULDER, AND LOWER BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E021000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 SATURN ION LAST OCTOBER AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE FOR MAYBE 5 TO 10 MINUTES AT A TIME UNTIL IT FAILED AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE MOTOR WAS OUT AND WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY 400 DOLLARS TO FIX. I PURCHASED THE 110 DOLLAR MOTOR FROM THEM AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF. PROBLEM FIXED BUT SINCE IT WAS A RECALL ON OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME SYSTEM I FEEL MYSELF AND OTHER OWNERS LEFT OUT SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR REPAIRS I STILL HAVE MY RECEIPT FOR THE PART. *TR

MY SATURN 2007 ION WILL NOT SHUT OFF & I CANNOT GET THE KEY TO RELEASE OUT OF THE IGNITION. I HAD TO PULL THE IGNITION FUSE & DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. I CALLED SATURN WHO DENIED THE PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SYSTEMS. I WENT ONTO CONSUMER AFFAIRS.COM, ENTERED CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT SATURN ION IGNITION LOCK & PULLED UP 50 PAGES OF DOCUMENTED PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS MATTER? NOT 50 INCIDENTS, 100'S OF INCIDENTS. MY CAR WENT OUT OF WARRANTY 1 MONTH AGO. IT IS ESTIMATED AT OVER $500.00 TO REPAIR WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN! PLEASE HELP US & CHECK OUT THIS PROBLEM. MY 2007 SATURN ION'S POWER STEERING HAS BEGUN TO SHUT ITSELF OFF AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS SINCE THE FEW TIMES IT HAS I HAVE EITHER BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE OR DRIVING ON WINDING ROADS WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO EASILY TURN. ALSO, THE KEY LOCKS UP IN THE IGNITION AND I HAVE TO TURN IT ON, MOVE THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT OFF AGAIN FOR IT TO ALLOW ME TO FULLY TURN OFF AND PULL OUT THE KEY. I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A STORE, AND SHUT OFF MY CAR. I STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT WORKED FINE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, BUT IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN. *TR

WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY A PWR STEERING WARNING FLASHED AND SUDDENLY I WAS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND HAD TO STEER MANUALLY WITHOUT POWER ASSIST. I TURNED OFF MY 2007 SATURN ION AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FORTUNATELY I AM STRONG AND WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR SAFELY OFF THE HIGHWAY IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. STEERING THE VEHICLE TOOK CONSIDERABLE STRENGTH. BOTH TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED THERE WAS NO WARNING. I COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT VERY STRONG. I COULD SEE WHERE A PERSON COULD COMPLETELY LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM GM INFORMING ME OF THE PROBLEM AND DIRECTING ME TO THE NEAREST DEALER TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING REPLACED. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE INJURED BECAUSE I HAD THE STRENGTH TO STEER THE CAR MANUALLY. TO SUDDENLY BE WITHOUT POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD BE POTENTIALLY FATAL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 35 YEARS AND THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS AUTOMOTIVE DEFECT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED. IT SEEMED THE RECALL LETTER WAS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO SWITCH IGNITION TO OFF, THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD GET STUCK AT POWER ON POSITION. PART WAS REPLACED BY MECHANIC, SAYING "THIS PART ALWAYS FAILS IN GM VEHICLES AFTER 5 YEARS". THE NEW PART STARTED TO GET STUCK AT THE SAME POSITION A YEAR LATER AND IT TAKES MULTIPLE TRIES TO GET IT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. *TR
MY POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF IT RESETS ITSELF BUT IT USUALLY HAPPENS 3 TO 4 TIMES A DAY. *TR
AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES THE POWER STEERING GETS REALLY HARD TO STEER, AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT TURNS ON IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF THEN TURN ON THE POWER STEERING WORKS BUT AFTER ANOTHER FEW MINUTES THE STEERING GETS HARD AGAIN. THIS OCCURS EVERYDAY. I HAVE NOT REPLACED NOTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM YET. I WAS HOPING TO FIND A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THAT MANY SATURN ION'S HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS MAKES FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING A TURN AND SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
2007 SATURN ION. HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2010. PUT KEY IN IGNITION, START THE CAR, HOWEVER THE CAR COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN IGNITION AND CAR HAD TO BE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS TAKEN TO LOCKHART CADILLAC IN GREENWOOD, INDIANA. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR A RECALL, HOWEVER I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE WHERE SATURN CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHILE DROPPING THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP, NOT ONLY WAS I TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT WARRANTY OR A RECALL I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THEM THAT THIS IS HAPPENING WITH A LOT OF SATURN ION'S AND THAT IT WOULD BE BETWEEN $500-$600. COST SEEMS TO BE A BIT STEEP FOR SOMETHING THAT SATURN, OR GM, SHOULD BE COVERING BECAUSE IT IS CLEARLY A RECALL PROBLEM. *TR
THE KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION SWITCH, IN THE RUN POSITION. I COULD NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FROM THE COMPUTER ASSEMBLY TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. FORTUNATELY, AT THE TIME, THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IF I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR THROUGH THE DEALER, THE COST WOULD HAVE BEEN IN EXCESS OF $500.00. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE, NOW, A YEAR LATER AND AFTER THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, IT IS DISPLAYING THE SAME SYMPTOMS (DIFFICULTY REMOVING KEY FROM IGNITION AFTER SHUTTING ENGINE OFF) AS WERE EXPERIENCED BEFORE THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY FAILED LAST TIME. THIS PROBLEM, AFTER MUCH ON-LINE RESEARCH, IS AN ISSUE WITH SATURNS FROM 2005-2007. AS MOST INDIVIDUALS NOTED THAT THEY EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, SIX MONTHS OR MORE AFTER REPLACING THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, THROUGH THEIR DEALERSHIP. MECHANICS ARE NOTING THAT THE ASSEMBLY IS FAULTY, IN THAT EACH TIME THE KEY IS TURNED SMALL BITS OF METAL FROM THE KEY ARE FLAKING OFF INTO THE ASSEMBLY, CAUSING IT TO LOCK UP, TYPICALLY IN THE ON POSITION. THANKFULLY, FOR ME, THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED CLOSE TO HOME. THIS VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR I AM AGAIN ANTICIPATING WILL TAKE REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY. THIS IS SOMETHING I WILL BE DOING MYSELF OR SEEKING THE SERVICES OF A 'SHADE TREE' MECHANIC, AS I DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON-LINE THROUGH EDMONDS AND OTHER CONSUMER COMPLAINT SITES, I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD BE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY PARTS AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THIS POOR ENGINEERING SHOULD NOT BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR ANY CONSUMER. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER LEARNED A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. HOWEVER, GM INFORMED HIM, THE VEHICLES WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WAS COVERED. THE CONSUMER DISPUTED THAT, SAYING HIS VEHICLE DID HAVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. UPDATED 09/29/14
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING. THERE WAS A POWER STEERING LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. SHE NOTICED THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE AS A RESULT. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. WHEN SHE RESTARTED IT, THE FAILURE SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP) IN MAY 2010. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO NOTICE AN UNUSUAL GASOLINE FUEL ODOR FOLLOWING REPAIRS AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE EPOXY, PLACED AROUND THE FUEL FILLER NECK INSTALLED DURING THE RECALL REPAIR, WAS FRACTURING AND CAUSING THE LEAK. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. THE DEALER OFFERED TO TAKE 10 PERCENT OFF OF THE TOTAL REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HIS CASE WOULD BE ESCALATED TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER AND THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,700 . UPDATED 01/13/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE PERFORMED THE REPAIR ON THE FUEL TANK THAT WAS PARTIALLY EFFECTIVE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE $800 REPAIR. I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK AND WHEN I GOT THERE REALIZED I COULD NOT TURN MY VEHICLE OFF OR TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AT ALL. I DROVE TO THE NEAREST GM DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE IMMEDIATELY KNEW THE PROBLEM WHEN I TOLD HIM THE SYMPTOMS. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM HE SAW "AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK". THEY ORDERED THE PARTS AND TOLD ME IT COULD COST $300-$600 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND THE HOUSING COMPONENT, IF IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER HEARING HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER SATURN OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE AND HE REDIRECTED ME TO GM'S CORPORATE OFFICE. I SAW ON THE PHONE FOR AN HOUR, MOSTLY ON HOLD, WHILE THE EMPLOYEES NEGOTIATED AND THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE IT WAS A SATURN VEHICLE, NOT GM; THE CAR'S WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED; THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH MY VEHICLE; AND GM DID NOT WANT TO PAY OUT OF THEIR POCKET FOR THE PART AND LABOR. THEY ARE STILL GOING TO REPLACE THE PARTS BECAUSE I NEED TO HAVE MY VEHICLE IN ORDER TO COMMUTE TO SCHOOL AND WORK. I'M GOING TO PAY THE $300-$600 FOR THE REPAIRS AS WELL AS THE $50/DAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR. GM IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING, OTHER THAN FIX THE PROBLEM AND CHARGE SATURN OWNERS THE FULL AMOUNT, UNLESS THERE'S A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER CIRCUIT BOARD BURNED OUT AND THE FUEL LINE CRACKED SPILLING GASOLINE ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER FOR A DIFFERENT RECALL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE ABS LIGHT, BATTERY, POWER STEERING, OIL LIGHT, AND THE ODOMETER LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED AT THE SAME TIME WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION OF THE FAILURES. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE CLUSTER BOARD BURNED OUT AND THE FUEL LINE WAS CRACKED. THE FUEL LINE WILL BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS TO THE CLUSTER BOARD AT NO COST WERE BEING REVIEWED BY THE MANUFACTURER. SHE WAS AWAITING A CALL FROM THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I CAME HOME LAST NIGHT AROUND 10:40PM, WENT TO SHUT MY CAR OFF AND THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION - IT WAS STUCK "ON". I TOOK MY CAR TO MY PARENTS HOUSE (MY DAD HAS TOOLS) AND AFTER SEVERAL FAILED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE KEY OUT, I CALLED ONSTAR AND THEY DISPATCHED A LOCAL TOW TRUCK COMPANY TO COME. THE GUY WAS VERY RUDE AND BASICALLY MADE ME FEEL STUPID FOR HAVING THIS HAPPEN AND ACTED LIKE HE COULDN'T HELP ME WITH THAT, SO I CANCELED THE TOW. WE PULLED SOME FUSES AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND FIGURED SINCE AT THAT TIME IT WAS 12:30AM THAT I WOULD CALL SATURN IN THE MORNING. I WENT ON THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS WEBSITE AND FOUND THIS HAS HAPPENED ALOT TO PEOPLE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WITH MY SAME CAR! AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT GETTING A RECALL, AND THEY ARE CHARGING PEOPLE UP TO $500 OR MORE TO FIX IT. I THINK GM SHOULD RECALL THIS IGNITION LOCK AND ALL OF THESE CHARGES FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART SHOULD BE COVERED BY THEM. IT'S NOT THE CAR OWNER'S FAULT THAT THE PART IS BAD. KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. CAR STUCK RUNNING. WHAT AN UNSAFE SITUATION, IN HIGH 90 DEGREE WEATHER. THANK GOODNESS MY ELDERLY GRANDMOTHER WAS NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME! ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE HAD TO COME AND TURN IT OFF BY TAKING OFF A FUSE IN THE HOOD, BEFORE TOWING IT TO THE DEALER. I BURNED MY HAND TRYING TO DISENGAGE THE FUSE, BEFORE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE GOT THERE, BECAUSE I WAS FEELING SICK STANDING OUTSIDE IN THE 99 DEGREE WEATHER WAITING. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND HOUSING, AND I HAD TO GET A NEW KEY MADE AT THE SATURN DEALER. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM, AND FOUND OVER 48 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS. I SURE HOPE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, AS THIS PRESENTS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. HOPEFULLY SATURN DRIVERS WILL NOT GET STRANDED IN EXTREME HOT, COLD, OR DANGEROUS CONDITIONS, WITH THEIR KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED WITH MY TWIN SISTER 1 WEEK BEFORE IT HAPPENED TO ME. BOTH OF US BOUGHT OUR 2007 SATURN IONS NEW, ON THE SAME DATE. THIS IS MORE THAN "A COINCIDENCE." WE FEEL AS THOUGH THIS PART OF THE CAR MUST HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE. IT IS NOT A "TYPICAL, ROUTINE MAINTENANCE" TYPE THING THAT SHOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. MY 2007 SATURN ION 2 PASSENGER SEAT BELT KEEPS MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN MY PASSENGERS BUCKLE UP, THE SEAT BELT WILL NO RELEASE WHEN THEY ARE TRYING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WHEN I STOP.I AM AFRAID THAT IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT THAT THE PERSON WILL BE TRAPPED. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH WHEEL LOCKING AND TROUBLE TURNING. I ALSO WAS TOLD BY FIRESTONE THAT I NEED TO HAVE MY STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT IS MANUFACTURER'S FAULT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS ON A 2007 SATURN ION. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME SEVERAL CARS HAVE COME IN WITH SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED SATURN AND CHEVROLET DEALERS TO ASK ABOUT RECALLS AND WAS INFORMED THAT OTHER MODELS FOR SATURN HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS BUT NOT THE ION AND IT IS SAME PROBLEM. MY 2007 SATURN ION'S IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER IS BROKEN. APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SATURNS, AND FIXING THE PROBLEM ONCE IS NOT A GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN BACK, HOWEVER, WE COULD COMPLETELY REMOVE THE KEY, AND WE COULD TURN THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR BY PULLING A FUSE FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH AND A LOT OF WASTED GAS. WE PURCHASED A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FROM THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP, BUT THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE NOW LEARNED WE ALSO NEED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION STARTER SWITCH. THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS MANY SATURNS SHOULD BE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. BEGINNING LAST WEEK, ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN STARTED , IT CANNOT BE SHUT OFF WITH THE KEY. LUCKILY, WE DO NOT GARAGE THIS VEHICLE! THEN THIS PAST WEEKEND WITH MY DAUGHTER AND 2 SMALL GRANDSONS IN THE CAR, THE KEY CAME OUT BUT THE CAR STAYED RUNNING! WE STOPPED AT THE LOCAL GM DEALER AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE HAD JUST DEALT WITH 3 OTHER GM CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED SATURN AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WHY IS GM NOT ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS? HONDA JUST ISSUED A RECALL THIS WEEK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IF THEY CAN DO IT, WHY CAN'T GM? *TR
