I PARKED MY CAR IN MY GARAGE AND CLOSED THE GARAGE DOOR, WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS. MY LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED IT AS CRACKS AND PINHOLES IN THE FUEL LINES RUNNING FROM THE FUEL PUMP TO FUEL FILTER CONSISTENT WITH RECALL 09V419000, GM WILL NOT HONOR THIS RECALL EVEN KNOW MY VIN IS WITHIN THE RECALL BREAKING POINTS, BECAUSE I DO NOT RESIDE IN ONE OF THE SELECTED STATES AND THEY CLAIM MY ISSUE IS DUE TO WEAR. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING IN CLOSE QUARTERS ON THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA CAMPUS,. I WAS NARROWLY ABLE TO AVOID HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE WHEN TURNING OFF THE ROAD. AFTER STALLING AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT WORKED FOR 3-4 MINUTES BEFORE AGAIN FAILING COMPLETELY. USING REPEATED CYCLES OF DRIVING UNTIL IT FAILED, TURNING THE CAR OFF, THEN RESTARTING IT, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET HOME, BUT THE POWER STEERING CONTINUED TO FAIL RECURRENTLY JUST A FEW MINUTES AFTER EACH RESTART. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 3-4 WEEKS AGO, I STARTED SMELLING A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL OUTSIDE MY CAR WHEN I PARKED IT. THE SMELL WAS GROWING STRONGER (AND I COULD SMELL IT IN THE CABIN ITSELF) SO I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. HE HAD PRINTED OUT THE RECALL AND SUGGESTED I CONTACT GM. WHEN I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THEY WOULDN'T/COULDN'T HONOR THE RECALL AS IT WAS VIN SPECIFIC. BACK TO MY MECHANIC WHO FIXED IT (AND BY NOW I WAS LEAKING GASOLINE) AND HE ADVISED ME TO CONTACT GM AGAIN AS THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED EXACTLY WHERE THE FUEL PUMP INVOLVED IN THE RECALL WAS. HE GAVE ME THE PART AND I DID CONTACT GM BUT WAS TOLD BY GM THAT THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL, THAT IT WAS VIN SPECIFIC. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY I WAS TOLD BY THE PERSON WHO CALLED ME THAT SHE "WANTED TO ASSURE ME THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE, IT'S NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL." NEEDLESS TO SAY, THAT DID NOT GO OVER WELL SINCE THE REASON IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE IS THAT I HAD IT FIXED MYSELF. I WILL ALSO BE FILING COMPLAINTS WITH MY STATE AG AND THE BBB. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,411 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,100. UPDATED 1/17/13 *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE FUEL SMELL ODOR FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE BUT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE CONTACT'S VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM UNDER REAR OF VEHICLE. TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO GET FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I SEE RECALL FOR SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT ONLY IN SOME STATES. I SEE RECALL HAS BEEN EXPANDED TO HOPEFULLY INCLUDE ALL STATES. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER STARTING VEHICLE PWR STR IS DISPLAYED AND THE POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING COMPLETELY. IT STARTED A FEW WEEKS AGO. IT USED TO WORK FOR A BLOCK OR TWO AFTER THE CAR WAS FIRST STARTED. NOW IT HAPPENS AS SOON AS THE CAR STARTS MOVING. I KNOW GM HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS WITH POWER STEERING, BUT IT DOESN'T COVER MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS MORE THAN 100K MILES. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL SITUATION? *TR
THE VEHICLE SMELLED HEAVILY OF GASOLINE WHEN PARKED. THE PLASTIC FUEL LINE AT THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTION WAS CRACKED. THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. THERE IS A RECALL, BUT WHEN I CONTACT GM, THEY TELL ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED AT THIS TIME. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AND THIS VIN NUMBER NEEDS TO BE ADDED. GM TELLS ME THAT IT IS UP TO THE NHTSA, NOT GM. I APPRECIATE YOUR CONSIDERATION IN THIS MATTER. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:09V419000( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
NOTICED FUEL LEAKAGE WHILE PARKED IN FRONT OF HOME. IMMEDIATELY TOOK AUTO TO REPAIR SHOP FOR CHECK AFTER CHECKING GM WEBSITE NOTICED RECALLS FOR FUEL LEAKAGE IN SEVERAL STATES, VA NOT INCLUDED. MECHANIC SAID FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING AND CRACKED RESULTING OF REMOVAL OF TANK AND FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT REPLACED AT A COST OF $609.51. *TR
MY DAUGHTER SMELLED GAS WHILE DRIVING HER CAR. SHE TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT HER FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE BUT THAT HER VEHICLE HAD A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC PRINTED OUT THE RECALL NOTICE (SAFETY RECALL 09226). I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST. CAN SATURN CERTIFY THAT THEY NEVER DID ANY PARTS SWAPS BETWEEN FACTORIES? *TR
EXITING OFF I-40 WEST ONTO THE HERMITAGE EXIT THE CAR BEEPED 3X AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE SINCE THE FAILURE WAS CONSIDERED A FIRE SAFETY HAZARD. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). VEHICLE EXHIBITS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE DESCRIBED BELOW, BUT BECAUSE I DO NOT LIVE IN THESE STATES, MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. I FEAR THAT MY VEHICLE COULD START ON FIRE ANY DAY NOW AND GM WILL NOT CARE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO NOT ONLY ME, BUT OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL. A FUEL LEAK IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT I FEEL SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED. GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT AND SATURN ION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA AND NEVADA; AND MODEL YEAR 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT, PONTIAC G5 AND SATURN ION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, FLORIDA, NEVADA AND TEXAS. THE PLASTIC SUPPLY OR RETURN PORT ON THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY MAY CRACK. IF EITHER OF THESE PORTS DEVELOPS A CRACK, FUEL WILL LEAK FROM THE AREA. WHEN PARALLEL PARKING AND THE WHEEL IS TURNED ALL THE WAY IN ONE DIRECTION THEN THE OTHER, THE POWER STEERING FAILS. IT IS THEN IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE CAR ON A TIGHT TURN RADIUS EVEN WITH SIGNIFICANT DRIVER EFFORT, MAKING PARALLEL PARKING DANGEROUS. THE CAR MUST BE TURNED OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL CRANKED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THEN RESTARTED BEFORE THE POWER STEERING REACTIVATES AND THE WHEEL TURNS NORMALLY.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON, EVEN THE SMALLER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, I HAD THE THROTTLE PEDAL REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS THROWING CODES, THEN I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS FUMES AND REALLY BECAME CONCERNED SO I TOOK IT TO JIM BUTLER CHEVROLET IN FENTON, MO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY VALVES, I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF I THERE WERE ANY SIMILAR ISSUES FROM OTHER SATURN OWNERS AND I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP FOR THE 2007 SATURN ION, I CALLED JIM BUTLERS AND TOLD THEM WHAT I DISCOVERED AND THE PERSON HANDLING MY VEHICLE ISSUE TOLD ME THAT I CAN'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING I FIND ONLINE AND THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ONE OF THE CARS LISTED ON THE RECALL LIST, YET IT WAS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS DESCRIBED BY OTHER SATURN OWNERS. I AM VERY UPSET AT THE FACT THAT MY CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUES AS THE OTHER SATURN'S BUT I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE MINE REPLACED, I PAID $513.00 AT A CUSTOMER FRIENDLY REPAIR SHOP WHO ALSO FOUND THE RECALL ON MY CAR. THE SHOP IS HOLDING MY OLD FUEL PUMP IN CASE THERE WAS A NEED TO INSPECT IT. I FOUND THE RECALL ON SAFERCAR.GOV WHICH IS AN OFFICIAL SITE. I GOT MY REPORT SEPTEMBER 3, 2012 THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 09V419000. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL COMING ON AS I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE ISSUES WITH MY VALVES, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THAT SEEN TOO YET. IT IS REALLY SAD WHEN I GO TO A PLACE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE CERTIFIED IN HANDLING SATURNS AND YET WHEN I NOTIFY THEM OF A RECALL ON THE SAME ISSUE AS MY CAR WAS HAVING THEY DISMISS ME BY TELLING ME I SHOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I READ ON THE INTERNET. MY CAR WAS A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE MY FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND THAT SCARED ME A LOT. THERE IS NO MORE GAS FUMES NOW THAT I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU TAKE MY COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY BECAUSE THE WAY I WAS TREATED WAS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE FUEL TANK FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK, WHICH WAS LEAKING. THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH GASOLINE FUMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
VEHICLE SMELLED STRONGLY OF GAS. BROUGHT IT TO MECHANIC. THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THIS IS A RECALL ON 2007 SATURN IONS IN OTHER STATES, BUT NOT MINE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 09V419000 ( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
FUEL PUMP MODULE IS CRACK, LEAKING GAS MAY CAUSE A FIRE. GAS SMELL WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE HAZARDOUS TO DRIVER AND PASSENGER INSIDE VEHICLE. GM WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE. *TR
I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER LIKE NORMAL. THEN I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS AND LOSE MILEAGE. I LOOKED UP SIMILAR RECALLS ON THIS SITE BUT I DID NOT GET SUCH A MAILING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE PARKED, THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
LOAD METAL CLANG ON BUMPS ? DRIVER SIDE FRONT. THE BUTTON BUSHING IS CONTAINED IN A METAL RING THAT IS PRESSED INTO THE ARM. THE RING DOES NOT SEPARATE FROM THE CONTROL ARM. THE PROBLEM IS THE BUSHING IS NOT SECURED WELL ENOUGH IN THAT RING (THE RING IS NOT CRIMPED AROUND THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE BUSHING AS IT SHOULD BE) AND SEPARATES ALLOWING THE WHOLE ARM TO GO UP AND BUMP AGAINST THE FRAME CAUSING A LOUD CLANG WHEN THE SUSPENSION REBOUNDS FROM A BUMP. IT IS EASILY DIAGNOSED BY VISUAL INSPECTION SEEING THE REAR AREA OF THE CONTROL ARM UP AGAINST THE FRAME. I CAN SEE THE BUSHING SHREDDING AS A WEAR ISSUE BUT THIS IS A DEFECT WHERE THE BUSING IS FAILING BECAUSE IT IS NOT SECURED AS IT SHOULD BE. I REPLACED IT MYSELF AND MADE THIS VIDEO OF IT. MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE RECALL ESTABLISHMENT (ZIMBRICK BUICK-SATURN) TOLD THEM TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR ESTABLISHMENT. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE UNTIL JUNE 26TH TRYING TO REPLACE THE SWITCH AND START THE VEHICLE. THEY CHARGED THE CAR CARE CENTER "JUMP STARTED" THE VEHICLE IN A WRONGFUL MANNER AND THAT CAUSED A COMPUTER TO FAIL. I HAVE A SWORN STATEMENT THAT IT WAS NOT JUMP STARTED. THEY EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE COMPUTER WITH A USED CADILLAC PART AND CHARGED ME $1288.41. THE ENTIRE PROCESS WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND INCOMPETENCE IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE.
