I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN MY PWR STR LIGHT FLASHED AND I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. I PULLED OVER ASAP AND TURNED OFF MY CAR. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON, I WAS THEN ABLE TO CONTROL MY STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION. ONE HOUR LATER I TURNED MY CAR BACK ON AND THE MESSAGE WAS ONCE DISPLAYED. AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR THE LIGHT WAS OFF. I HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE IN MARCH AND THE GM DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANTY. NOW 2 MONTHS LATER IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN, AND THE DEALERSHIP IS STATING THAT IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. HOWEVER, THAT IS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE IN WHICH IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY GIVEN THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS RELATED TO THIS SAME SITUATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION FAILED AND THE KEY COULD NOT BE RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND ADJUSTED THE GEAR SHIFTER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS RECENTLY IN AN ACCIDENT AND NOW A LITTLE WHILE LATER MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS COMING. I WANT TO KNOW WHY AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR KIT, A BLOWN FUSE, THE HARNESS CONNECTORS AND THE POWER CONNECTOR HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP LAST YEAR I AM NOW FACING A CRACKED GAS TANK. I ASKED THE MECHANIC IF IT COULD BE DUE TO ME HITTING ANYTHING, I HAD NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS, AND I WAS ADVISED THERE WASN'T ANYTHING TO INDICATE AND OUTSIDE DAMAGE. JUST THAT THE TANK ITSELF HAS WORN AWAY. *TR

THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND MAKING A TURN, THE POWER STEERING WARNING ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CURB. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 92,387. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY UNIT ON MY 2007 SATURN ION HAS CRACKED AND DEVELOPED A LEAK CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT THAT LEAD TO THE CRACK, JUST A FAULTY PART. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT IT DOES NOT EXTEND TO THE STATE IN WHICH I RESIDE. *TR
AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN A VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS TRAVELING 50-55 MPH AND HAD TIME TO BRIEFLY APPLY THE BRAKES. THE RESULTING COLLISION DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MY CAR. I WAS SHOCKED THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY BUT AT THE TIME WAS UNAWARE MY CAR HAD SERIOUS POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. SINCE BECOMING AWARE OF THE RECALL I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SIMULATE THE IGNITION FAILURE BY JOSTLING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION SENT TO ME BY GM IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL PROCESS AND HAVE HEARD NOTHING BACK FROM MY GM DEALER 3 MONTHS SINCE CALLING TO ARRANGE BRINGING MY VEHICLE IN. I WAS SIMPLY INFORMED THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PART COMES IN. IN THE MEAN TIME, I AM EXTREMELY CONSCIOUS OF THE FACT THAT MY CAR DOES INDEED FAIL. I ACTUALLY SAY A QUICK PRAYER EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR NOW BECAUSE I'M SCARED. I AM SCARED OF THE POSSIBILITY THAT I COULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HURTING OR KILLING SOMEONE WHILE DRIVING A VEHICLE I AM FULLY AWARE CAN FAIL. GM WILL CALL ME BACK SOON, I HOPE. *TR
LOST POWER STEERING AT 40 MPH, CAR CHIMED & PWR STR APPEARED ON DASH DISPLAY. FILLED UP GAS TANK AND STEERING WORKED. GOT ON HIGHWAY AND LOST STEERING AT 65MPH. SHUT OFF CAR AT DESTINATION AND STEERING WAS OK ALL THE WAY HOME.THERE IS NO WAY MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER (POSSIBLY WITH MY 2 GRANDSONS) COULD STEER THE CAR AT ANY SPEED WITHOUT POWER STEERING. *TR
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN COMPLETELY OFF OUT OF THE "ACC" POSITION WHEN STOPPED. THE GEAR SHIFTER HAS TO BE "PLAYED WITH" FOR A WHILE AND THEN MAYBE IT WILL ENGAGE. OTHERWISE THE CAR WILL STAY IN THE ACC POSITION . OF COURSE THE DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED BECAUSE THE CAR WON'T SHUT OFF. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK UNDER THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK ON THE FUEL PUMP THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
AFTER DRIVING MY VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES, I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY BACK TO TURN THE VEHICLE ENGINE OFF. THE KEY TURNED BACK AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT TURN OFF. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE WAS A FAULTY IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LOCK CYLINDER, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT COULD BE RELATED TO THE RECALL THAT GM IS NOW ISSUING, REVOLVING AROUND THE FAULTY IGNITION. DURING THIS VISIT, THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED TO SEE WHY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON AND IT WAS FOUND TO BE VALVE ASSEMBLY AT FAULT IN THE SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM. COULD THIS HAVE BEEN CAUSED FROM THE FAULTY IGNITION AND HAVING TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO STOP THE ENGINE, WHICH IN TURN THROUGH THE ENTIRE COMPUTER OFF IN THE VEHICLE? WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, MY BILL FOR PARTS, LABOR AND TAX WAS $916.98. LESS THAN SIX MONTHS LATER, THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. DUE TO IT BEING LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, I WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THIS REPLACEMENT. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE DID NOT STOP RUNNING AS IN THE CURRENT 2014 RECALL, COULD THIS STILL BE RELATED TO THE SAME FAULTY IGNITION SITUATION? *TR
HALFWAY DURING THE HALF MILE COMMUTE TO MY HOME FROM WORK ON DECEMBER 21, 2012, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THIS HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY. I HEAR THE CHIME AND THEN THE PWR STRNG LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE TO STEER MANUALLY. I OFTEN HAVE TO STOP MY CAR AND TURN IT OFF JUST TO RESET THE STEERING. SOMETIMES IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN THE CAR SAFELY WHILE DRIVING VERY SLOWLY AND/OR PARKING. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM AS I SEE FROM THIS SITE THAT IT'S A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM. IF AN ELDERLY, PHYSICALLY WEAK OR INEXPERIENCED DRIVER SHOULD HAVE THIS HAPPEN, IT COULD RESULT IN MANY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. I'VE OWNED MY VEHICLE FOR 6+ YEARS SINCE BRAND NEW. *TR
MY SATURN ION 2007 POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING RESULTING IN NEAR CRASH SITUATION AS STEERING ALL-MOST JAMMED . COMPANY IS NOT READY TO FIX THE POWER STEERING ISSUE IN-SPITE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY ON POWER STEERING. *TR
I HAD SMELLED A VERY STRONG GAS ODOR IN MY CAR AND CONTACTED GM/SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE ON NOVEMBER 28, 2012 IN REGARDS TO THE SMELL AND TO FIND OUT IF MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN A RECENT RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP RECALL WAS ONLY INCLUDED IN CERTAIN STATES AND MY STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC ON 12/14/12 AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT MY CAR SMELLED OF GAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAULTS WERE DUE TO BEING IN STATES THAT HIGH HEAT. I LIVE IN MARYLAND AND THE FUEL SMELL CAME ABOUT DURING THE SUMMER WHICH IS VERY HOT IN THE STATE. I CONTACTED GM BECAUSE I FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR A FAULTY FUEL PUMP SINCE IT IS A FIRE AND SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON BEING ENGAGED AND WOULD THEN BECAME STUCK. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED REPEATEDLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. VERY HARD TO STEER AND MAKE TURNS. HAVE CALLED ABOUT HAVING IT FIXED, THERE IS NO RECALL LISTED, BUT OVER 800 COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 46,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME THROUGH THE MARYLAND MOUNTAINS AFTER VISITING FAMILY FOR THANKSGIVING. I WAS IN A LINE OF CARS TRAVELING AT 70MPH, PASSING A SEMI, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I COULD BARELY STEER OR PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS I HAD LOST POWER. MY TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK AND I CONSIDERED PUTTING MY HANDS OUT THE WINDOW TO WAVE TO DRIVERS WARNING THEM OF THE IMPENDING DANGER. THANKFULLY THE ONE CAR BEHIND ME MUST HAVE KNOWN SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE HE BACKED OFF ALLOWING ME TO COAST BEHIND THE SEMI AND EVENTUALLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED MY DAD IMMEDIATELY AND HE STARTED GOOGLING ENGINE SHUT OFF PROBLEMS AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS. WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALER. I CALLED THE GM SATURN DEALER IN TOWN AND THE PERSON LAUGHED STATING HE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THE TIME, I DID NOT MAKE AN OFFICIAL REPORT WITH ANY OTHER AGENCY. BUT I DO HAVE EMAILS THAT WERE WRITTEN TO FRIENDS EXPLAINING THE FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT. THIS CAR IS A 2007 AND I DIDN'T PURCHASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 2011! 5 YEARS AFTER GM KNEW OF THE DEATH TRAP ON WHEELS. WHEN I ORIGINALLY RESEARCHED THIS CAR NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS CAME UP ON MY SEARCH. IT WASN'T UNTIL I SEARCHED FOR THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM (ENGINE SHUT OFF) THAT HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS SURFACED. I'M LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TODAY! I STILL DRIVE AROUND IN THIS DEATH TRAP BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. IT ONLY HAS 55K MILES ON IT AND I USED MY SAVINGS TO PAY IT OFF. *TR
THE CAR, WHEN JUST WEEKS OLD, SMELLED OF GAS COMING FROM THE FRONT GRILLE, A STRONG ODOR 5 MINUTES AFTER SHUTTING IT OFF. DEALER CHECKED SAID ALL WAS NORMAL. ALONG WITH THIS ISSUE WAS A LOSS OF VACUUM IN THE BRAKE ASSIST CANISTER WHEN IT SAT IN THE DRIVEWAY ? WHEN YOU GOT IN THE CAR THE BRAKE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ROCK-HARD. THERE SHOULD BE 5 ? 10 PUMPS OF VACUUM IN THE CANISTER ON ANY CAR. THIS IS NOTICEABLE IN A STICK SHIFT (IT IS) OR ANY CAR YOU HAVE TO STEP ON THE BRAKE FOR THE INTERLOCKED STARTER. DEALER CHECKED ALSO SAID WAS NORMAL. THEN ABOUT TWO YEARS AFTER THE SMELL OF GAS STOPPED ALTOGETHER AND THE POWER ASSIST SEEMED NORMAL AS THE PEDDLE HAD POWER WHEN THE CAR WAS LEFT TO SIT. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO THE GAS SMELL STARTED COMING BACK WHEN IT WAS PARKED ? THIS TIME FOR JUST A MINUTE OR SO ? INTERMITTENT. THEN ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO IT STARTED GETTING WORSE ? NOT JUST WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF BUT NOW GAS ODOR WITH CLOSED WINDOWS AT THE FIRST FEW LIGHTS YOU CAME TO AFTER STARTING THE CAR, WITH WINDOWS SHUT IN COLD WEATHER. NOW THE ODOR IS STRONG, SOMETIMES NAUSEATING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THE BRAKE PEDAL ISSUE ALSO RETURNED IN FEBRUARY ON VERY COLD MORNINGS. I DO NOT KNOW IF A VACUUM LEAK AND A FUEL SMELL ARE RELATED HERE. I CANNOT SEE ANY LEAKING GAS OR SPOTS ON THE PAVEMENT AND I HAVE LOOKED A FEW DOZEN TIMES OVER THE TWO TIME PERIODS THIS PROBLEM(S) HAVE OCCURRED. A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND NO VISIBLE LEAK. I AM FAMILIAR THAT CAR IS RECALLED IN SOUTHERN STATES ONLY FOR A FUEL PUMP THAT HAS CRACKS IN THE PLASTIC RETURN LINES ? AND ALSO HAVE READ (ALTHOUGH CANNOT BE SURE IF THIS IS TRUE LEAK FUEL IN A POOL ON TOP OF THE TANK AND NOT DRIP AND THE EVAPORATING ODOR WILL MAKE ITS WAY FORWARD TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR THE BACK WHEEL WELLS - I CAN SMELL GAS IN THE REAR WHEEL WELLS ALSO ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES NOT AS STRONG AS THE GRILLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN ION. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT CLOSED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR WHEN SHE HEARD THE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO GLASS REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,900. THE CONSUMER STATED THE GLASS WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 12/31/2012 *JS
BEGAN SMELLING AN ODOR OF GASOLINE WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY CAR. DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. TOOK MY CAR (2007 SATURN ION) TO A GM DEALER FOR OTHER, UNRELATED ISSUES AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS CRACKED. I CONTACTED GM AFTER LEARNING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON CARS IN OTHER "WARM WEATHER" STATES. THE ORIGINAL PART BECAME DEFECTED FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND I HAD TO PAY OVER $700 TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. NOW, THE SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED. THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS (SATURN) AT 1-800-553-6600 TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE AWARE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING. HOWEVER, THE IS NO RECALL TO CORRECT THIS MEASURE. TO TURN THE CAR OFF YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE WIRES OR REPLACE THE PART FOR ANOTHER $900. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. LATER IN JUNE 2008, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER TO ASSIST WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY WERE UNABLE T FIND A PROBLEM AS WELL. HE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS PERIODICALLY WITH THE BRAKES. A YEAR LATER, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THE CHIMES AND WARNING LIGHTS WOULD COME ON, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS; ESPECIALLY PARKING. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO MANUALLY STEER THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, AND THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT. THE PROBLEM WENT ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS, UNTIL THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SATURN STATING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE HAD BEEN EXTENDED DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION NOT ALLOWING ME TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE UNLESS I MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE DOORS. THIS WAS HAPPENING FOR ABOUT A YEAR OR MORE INTERMITTENTLY. THEN ONE DAY I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF BECAUSE THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER ABOUT A 5-10 SECOND TIME FRAME, THE IGNITION WOULD UNLOCK ALLOWING ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY. THIS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN WHEN I WAS ON VACATION, THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT AT ALL WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I WAS LEFT WITH HAVING TO TEMPORARILY UNPLUG THE BATTERY AND THE FUSE SO THE CAR WOULD TURN OFF. THE MECHANIC I TOOK THE CAR TO WHILE ON VACATION SHOWED ME HOW TO DO THIS AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC ONCE I ARRIVED HOME BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL AT THIS POINT, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE IGNITION LOCK WAS BAD, AND APPARENTLY GM HAD BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND OFFERED NO RECALL BUT DID RE-DESIGN THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF THE IGNITION LOCK. *TR

CPSC# I1290352A. SATURN ION 2007. CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS HAVING LOCK CYLINDER MALFUNCTION. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION IN THE ON POSITION. SHE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, SHE WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE CLUTCH WHICH STOPPED THE ENGINE FROM RUNNING. SHE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO KEEP IF FROM DYING.
