DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AT A REDUCED SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE SIZE OF THE ENGINE AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.
HORN STARTS BLOWING WHEN CAR IS PARKED AND OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. DEALER SAYS DEFECT IN THE HORN MODULE BEHIND STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG. DEALER SAYS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX AS A RECALL. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME OVER $750 TO FIX. I DECLINED. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SATURN VUE. THE CONTACT BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 55,000 MILES. AT 75,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN IN RIGHT GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SATURN DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A NEW ONE, WHICH INCLUDED A 18,000 MILE/ONE YEAR WARRANTY. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED UPHILL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES, SHE RELEASED THE PEDAL AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE BACK INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE AUTO BODY SHOP. THE MECHANIC SEARCHED FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WILL INSTALL A NEW TRANSMISSION AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE WITH THE SAME WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE AUTO BODY SHOP BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
SQUEAK NOISE INTERMITTENT WHEN FIRST OBTAINED VEHICLE. ADJUSTMENTS MADE PERIODICALLY UNDER WARRANTY ( TO DASHBOARD ETC.) NOISE SEEMED TO GO AWAY BUT ALWAYS CAME BACK. NOISE BECAME LOUDER, AND MORE LIKE A CREAKING NOISE, WHEN AT LOW SPEEDS OR OVER BUMPS WHEN BRAKE IS NOT BEING PRESSED. TOOK VUE IN WHILE UNDER 49,700 MILES, VISUAL INSPECTION FOUND FRONT STABILIZER LINKS TO BE NOISY. I DECLINED THEM REPAIRING IT AS THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE FRO FREE OR DISCOUNT, EVEN WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE, AND NOISE HAS BEEN PRESENT. I STOPPED TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AFTER WARRANTY WAS UP AS THEY HAVE A REPUTATION IN TOWN TO NOT WORK WITH THE CUSTOMER. LATERAL LINKS WERE ALREADY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, I FEEL THE STABILIZER LINKS SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE ALSO, WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I WILL TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND HAVE IT DOWN, FOR MY OWN SAFETY, BUT I FEEL I DESERVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THAT AS WELL AS THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES I JUST HAD PUT ON AND FRONT WHEEL BEARING! I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES ON CAR DUE TO WEAR, AND CAR HAD LESS THAN 4500 MILES ON IT. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SATURN VUE. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAS HAD THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING AND IGNITION SWITCH REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED AND THE ENGINE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SPRAYER WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SATURN VUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SATURN VUE. AFTER PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET AWAY, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT COASTED TO A STOP AND HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE; THEREFORE, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT. APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MONTHS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER 30,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS WOULD COST $6,000. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. UPDATED 09/17/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST TIME SHE HE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRAMISSION, A PART WAS REPLACED, THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. WHEN STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND SITTING STILL FOR A FEW SECONDS, THERE IS A LOUD THUMPING SOUND (OCCURRING THREE OR FOUR TIMES) FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE (SOUNDS SIMILAR TO A LOOSE FUEL TANK BAFFLE). THE DEALER STATED THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF ANY FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM, THOUGH THEY TRIED A COUPLE OF IDEAS. WHILE I'VE FOUND THIS ON SEVERAL WEBSITES ONLINE, NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW THE CAUSE. EVERYONE SEEMS TO LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE AS IT SEEMS INTERMITTANT, BUT HAPPENS ON AVERAGE ONCE PER DAY. BEING THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE EMINATING FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM, I THINK THAT SATURN SHOULD TAKE THIS ISSUE MORE SERIOUSLY, AND MORE THAN LIKELY THIS IS SOMETHING THEY CAN CORRECT BY REPLACING THE FUEL TANK, I FEEL THAT THEY JUST DON'T WANT THAT EXPENSE. ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE HORN SWITCH, AS IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE IN A PANIC SITUATION, WHICH IS WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO BE USED IN. LASTLY, I BELEIVE THAT NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THE AWD SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES. I'VE DONE MY OWN TESTS AND I HAVE TO SAY I AM SURPRISED ABOUT HOW EASILY IT IS TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN LIGHT SNOW. WHEN THE REAR COMES ON, IF THE ENGINE IS REVVING HIGH, IT CAN SPIN THE VEHICLE AROUND LIKE A TOP.
SATURN HAS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSIONS THAT THEY ARE REFUSING TO RECOGNIZE. MY WIFE'S VUE SUDDENLY LOST POWER TODAY IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND ALMOST GOT IN TO A WRECK. I AM TIRED OF THEM FAILING TO TAKE NOTICE OF THIS; THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 SATURN VUE @51,000 MILES BOTH FRONT AND BACK WHEEL BEARINGS NEED REPLACING. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT AT MY EXPENSE ($550.77) THE BACK ONE ALSO NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS NOT ONLY TO MYSELF, ANY PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE OR OTHER MOTORISTS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 SATURN VUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. ALSO, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD MOMENTARILY HESITATE BEFORE ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
NOTICE A GAS ODOR A FEW WEEKS AGO, TOOK MY SATURN VUE TO THE DEALER AND FOUND OUT THAT THE GAS NECK HAD A CRACK. I HAD TO LEAVE IT THERE DUE TO THE DANGER OF THE GAS LEAKAGE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ONLY TIME THAT OCCURS IS FROM AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO SIGN OF AN ACCIDENT AND THEY COULD NOT THINK OF ANY OTHER REASON FOR THE CRACK. THE SATURN WHICH WAS BOUGHT NEW FROM THE DEALER HAD 37,000 MILES. OF COURSE NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY SINCE I MISSED THE 36,000 MILE FULL WARANTY THE DEALERSHIP COVERS. BUT I WAS CONCERNED THIS MIGHT HAPPEN TO OTHER SATURN OWNERS AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE DANGEROUS DUE TO THE GAS LEAK. *NM
IN 2007 I WAS DRIVING MY SATURN VUE AWD 4CL EQUIPPED WITH A VTI TRANSMISSION DOWN THE HWY 401 IN ONTARIO. I WAS GOING A SPEED OF 100KM/HR. WITHOUT WARNING MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT AND REDUCED POWER LIGHT WENT ON AND CAUSE MY POWER TO DROP FROM A SPEED ON 100KM/HR TO 0 IN ABOUT 3 SECONDS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OF THE HIGHWAY AS MY SPEED WAS DECREASING BUT HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND GET MYSELF TO SAFETY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHO HAD IT TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO INFORMED ME DUE TO THIS SPECIFIC TRANSMISSION (VTI) THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. I HAD IT FIXED AT COST OF $4500. I RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL IN NOVEMBER OF 2009, FROM GM CANADA ADMITTING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THEY WERE OFFERING VARIOUS INCENTIVES. (EX A $5000 VOUCHER TOWARDS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE OR 50% REIMBURSEMENT TOWARDS A PREVIOUS REPAIR OR 50% TOWARDS A REPAIR AT PRESENT. WHEN I CALLED THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS OVER 160, 000 KM I WOULD NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY OF THESE INCENTIVES EVEN THOUGH AT THE TIME THE TRANSMISSION WENT THE CAR WAS AT 104,000. THEY OFFERED ME A $700 REIMBURSEMENT. AS THIS WAS GOING THROUGH THE TRANSMISSION WENT AGAIN,FORTUNATELY NOT OF THE HIGHWAY. IT AGAIN NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED FOR $5000, BUT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND I AM UNSURE IF I WANT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I WAS EVEN TOLD WHEN BY AN AGENT AT GM NAMED ALEXIS WHEN I SAID THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED OR THE TRANSMISSION FIXED PROPERLY SHE STATED"REGARDLESS OF IF THE VEHICLE IS SAFE OR NOT THIS IS OUR POLICY" . THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE VTI TRANSMISSION AND IT HAS TO DO WITH THE BELT. THE ONLY RECTIFYING GM DOES IS TO PUT IN ANOTHER TRANSMISSION EXACTLY THE SAME. THIS CAR IS A HUGE SAFETY LIABILITY ESPC WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON A HIGHWAY, NOT TO MENTION THE FINANCIAL LIABILITY. GM'S SOLUTION FOR THE $5000 VOUCHER FOR A NEW VEHICLE WAS A COBALT (HOW IRONIC AS THEY ARE NOW BEING RECALLED). THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE!!! *TR
THE VTI TRANSMISSION IN MY 2003 SATURN VUE HAS FAILED REPEATEDLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, USUALLY ON HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEEDS. SUDDENLY, THE TRANSMISSION WILL DISENGAGE AND THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. SATURN HAS NOW FIXED THE PROBLEM FIVE TIMES IN 38,000 MILES AND MOST RECENTLY ADMITTED THAT IT DID NOT KNOW WHY THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AND DID NOT KNOW IF THE REPAIRS IT MADE WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE INCIDENT DATE NOTED BELOW IS THE MOST RECENT DATE THIS OCCURRED. WHEN THESE INCIDENTS OCCUR, SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION WILL RESET AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT. BUT OTHER TIMES, THE VEHICLE HAS REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ONGOING SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF THIS CAR, AS THE CONSEQUENCES OF ONE OF THESE UNANNOUNCED FAILURES COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. SO FAR, WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY THAT NO INJURY OR ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. *NM
THE HORN ON MY 2003 2WD SATURN VUE HAS MALFUNCTIONED AND IS NON-OPERATIONAL. ONE DAY, WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF, THE HORN ACTIVATED BY ITSELF AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE HORN WOUND UP DYING COMPLETELY AND NOW THE HORN, RELAY, FUSES, AND WIRING ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE HORN ACTIVATOR IS LOCATED INSIDE THE AIRBAG UNIT INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL UNIT. THE HORN ACTIVATOR IS COVERED BY A COPPER PROTECTIVE PLATE WHICH DEFORMS OVER TIME DUE TO THE DRIVER HAVING TO PRESS EXETREMELY HARD ON THE HORN BUTTONS TO ACTIVATE THE HORN. WHEN THE COPPER PLATE BECOMES DEFORMED, THE HORN ACTIVATES AND IS UNABLE TO BE DEACTIVATED UNLESS THE MAIN FUSE FOR THE HORN IS PULLED. IN MY CAR, THE FUSE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE LOCATED AND PULLED IN TIME, LEADING TO THE UNIT FAILURE. NOW I HAVE NO HORN AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE $750 TO REPLACE THE UNIT. FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON SATURN FORUMS ON THE WEB, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE HORN UNIT. DESPITE THE FACT THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE (SOME MORE THAN ONCE), GM HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 SATURN VUE. SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE NOW HAD 5 WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED, ONE PER WHEEL AND 2 ON PASSENGER FRONT SIDE. THE FIRST 4 WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE LAST ONE COST $410 TO HAVE REPLACED. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE COST AND SINCE I HAD EACH WHEEL BEARING REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ONLY CHARGED ME 25% OF THE COST. FIVE WHEEL BEARINGS IN 3 YEARS IN NOT A VERY GOOD RECORD. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESEARCHED BECAUSE, TO ME, IT SEEMS THAT IT IS EITHER A LEMON OR A RECALL ITEM. *NM
WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE REPLACED THE ROTORS AND THE REAR WIPER MOTOR. THE LATEST FAILURE LEFT ME STRANDED AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE SLAVE CYLINDER FOR THE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH FLUID WENT WITH A TOTAL COST OF 1100.00 OUT OF FACTORY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY OF COURSE. COMPANY CLAIMS THIS IS A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. *JB
SATURN VUE HORN FAILURE DUE TO POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. DEALER ADVISED THAT AIRBAG, HORN, AND HORN RELAY HAS TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE HORN RELAY IS THE SAME RELAY PART NUMBER AS THE REAR WINDOW WIPER - TRADING OUT THE RELAYS DID NOT CAUSE THE REAR WINDOW WASHER TO STOP WORKING, THEREFORE THE PROBLEM IS NOT IN THE HORN RELAY. THE DEALER DISCONNECTED SOME OF THE SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE FLASHER, TO DISCONNECT THE HORN WHEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO UNPLUG THE HORN AT THE HORN RATHER THAN UNDER THE DASH. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FAILURE BUT WANTS ~$800 TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG, HORN, AND RELAY. THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM BASED ON THE OTHER COMPLAINTS LISTED. I PURCHASED A SATURN STRICTLY BECAUSE OF SERVICE DEPENDABILITY --- AND APPARENTLY THAT IS NOT SUFFICIENT REASON TO REMAIN WITH SATURN NOW THAT GM HAS TAKEN OVER. *NM
2003 SATURN VUE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING AT AN INTERSECTION. THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER, WHICH IS ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE DEALERSHIP(IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET THERE WHEN THEY ARE OPEN). NOW THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE AND THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ARE BOTH READING BAD, AND MY VEHICLE WILL QUIT RUNNING AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. *NM
COMPUTER FAILED ON 2003 SATURN VUE (4-CYL VTI VERSION) CAUSING GAUGES AND SYSTEM LIGHTS TO BLINK AND FLUCTUATE UNCONTROLLABLY. ADDITIONALLY, DOOR LOCKS WERE TURNED ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY. I HAD DIFFICULTY EXITING THE VEHICLE ONCE AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE LOCKS. INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN ON HIGHWAY AT 58 MPH. MILEAGE OF VEHICLE IS 52,600. DEALERSHIP REPLACED COMPUTER -- PROBLEM WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE FRONT CONTROL ARM LINKAGE AND BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERFORMED THE REPAIR AS INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION LATERAL LINK ASSEMBLIES. UPDATED 04/06/06. *JB
DRIVING CAR STARTED TO BLOW OIL FROM THE CAM COVER GASKET CAUSED BY MOISTURE/WATER ENTERING ENGINE BECAUSE OF MOISTURE BUILD UP IN PVC HOSE. WATER IN ENGINE FROZE CAUSING GASKET TO BLOW. TOTAL LOSS OF OIL IN ENGINE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THEY REROUTED PVC HOSE TO PREVENT MOISTURE BUILD UP AGAIN. GASKET WAS REPLACED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEEDS, THE ENGINE REVS HIGH AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPS. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND THE VEHICLE BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE SAME TRANSMISSION WOULD BE USED. FIRST TIME DRIVING SATURN VUE ON FREE WAY, MOTOR STARTED RACING AND VUE HAD NO GEARS, LOST SPEED , HAD TO GET OFF ROAD AND HAVE VUE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, THEY INSTALLED NEW TRANSMISSION CALIBRATION AND NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ADDITIVE AND INFORMED ME FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT MY VUE HAD A VTI TRANSMISSION AND THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION MAY EXPERIENCE CERTAIN TRANSMISSION CONCERNS THAT MIGHT AFFECT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND MAY REQUIRE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. 2ND TIME I WAS DRIVING ON ROAD AND AGAIN MOTOR STARTED TO RACE AND GEARS WOULD NOT WORK, AGAIN I HAD TO GET OFF ROAD AND HAVE VUE TOWED TO DEALER, THEY REPLACED TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR INSIDE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY COVER. 2ND TIME DRIVING ON ROAD. *JB
2003 SATURN VUE HOOD RELEASE CABLE AND WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED. *TS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED (WARRANTY). WHILE REPAIRING THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE PROMPT SHAFT CENTER BEARING WAS BROKEN (WARRANTY). THERE WAS NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSAXLE. THE TECHNICIAN UPDATED THE TCM AND ADDED CVT ADDITIVE (WARRANTY). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS FAULTY (WARRANTY). THE AIR BAG AND HORN WERE ALSO REPLACED. *NM

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES *TGW IN MARCH OF 2004, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SATURN STATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH VTI TRANSMISSIONS AND IT WOULD REQUIRE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME BY SATURN. HOWEVER, SINCE THEN THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES. GM INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THEY WOULD CHARGE HIM HALF FOR REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. ALSO, THE LINK BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED. *JB
PURCHASED MY SATURN VUE USED IN MARCH 2005...AT THAT TIME I HAD 6K MILES LEFT ON THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY...IN JUNE 2005 TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL SATURN DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CARE OF ALL NORMAL ISSUES & GET A MAINT CHECKUP...AT THAT TIME THEY REPLACED THE RESISTOR- ENGINE COOLING FAN (DUE TO BLOWING HOT AIR WHEN AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON), HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY COMPOSITE ON FRONT LEFT (CRACKED WHERE BOLTED TO FRAME), OBD SYSTEM UPGRADE (RECALL), REPLACEMENT OF REAR LATERAL LINK ASSEMBLY (RECALL), AND LAST THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS REPLACED/ADJUSTED & LUBED DUE TO GOING BAD - AT THAT TIME THEY NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED 3X'S SINCE JAN 2003. ON DEC 24TH @ 10:00AM...MY ENTIRE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY FAILED AND LEFT ME STRANDED...THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM...DUE TO ME BEING 5,000 OVER MY WARRANTY...THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE IT...APPROX COST OF $450. I WENT DIRECTLY OVER TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP....FORT WAYNE, IN SATURN...A SERVICE CONSULTANT PULLED UP THE HISTORY OF MY VUE AND DISPLAYED TO ME THAT THE GEAR SHIFT HAD BEEN WORKED ON 4 OTHER TIMES...HIS SERVICE MANAGER STATED HE WOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF IT DUE TO THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED & IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT...I CALLED SATURN'S CORPORATE OFFICE INFORMED THEM OF THE ISSUE...THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD GET IT TAKEN CARE OF WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED...WAITING TO SEE WHAT IS DONE...MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP....AS FOR THE SERVICE MANAGER @ FW, IN SATURN DEALERSHIP...I HAVE HEARD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT HOW HE TREATS CUSTOMERS FROM FRIENDS THAT ARE ALSO SATURN OWNERS... 8JB
THE HORN IN MY 2003 SATURN VUE MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN TAKEN TO THE LOCAL SATURN DEALER FOR REPAIR, THEY REPLACED SEVERAL COMPONENTS ($400) AND ULTIMATELY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT GOVERNED THE HORN ($700). THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS MODULE GOVERNED THE AIRBAGS. HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT LIT BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MODULE HAD FAILED. A HORN PART SHORTED OUT AND RESULTED IN MY SON DRIVING A CAR WITH NO AIRBAGS AND NO WARNING OF THAT. *NM

THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION IN JANUARY, AND THEY FOUND ONE OF THE STUDS BROKE, AND REPAIRED IT. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THIS IS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE NOT THE FACTORY TIRES AND NEEDED LONGER STUDS. VEHICLE WAS IN CONDO PARKING LOT FOR 2 HRS. I WENT OUT TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE. DIDN'T PUT ON A/C OR HEAT. BACKED UP VEHICLE. WHEN STARTED TO DRIVE FORWARD, IT NEAR-STALLED/HESITATED BEFORE GETTING OUT ONTO ROAD. FOURTH EPISODE 7 DAYS LATER. LEFT WORK AFTER 8 HOURS INTO BUSY TRAFFIC. HAD 2 MORE INCIDENTS IN TRAFFIC. LEFT THIS STREET AND WENT TO POST OFFICE. PARKED OUTSIDE AND WENT IN FOR 5 MINUTES. BACKED VEHICLE UP AND NEAR-STALL HAPPENED AGAIN. WENT TO DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AFTER THESE EPISODES. HOOKED UP TO COMPUTER AND NOTHING WAS FOUND, NOTHING DONE TO FIX IT. GM TOLD ME, "IF YOU'RE EVER IN THE AREA WHEN IT HAPPENS, STOP BY RIGHT AWAY." I DON'T LIVE CLOSE TO THEM. WHILE BRAKING THE VEHICLE VIBRATES SIGNIFICANTLY. THE SATURN DEALERSHIP IN HICKORY, NC LOOKED AT THE AUTOMOBILE AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SATURN PLACE WHERE THIS TIME THEY SAID THE ROTORS OF THE VEHICLE WERE WARPED. WHEN I HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC WITH MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TO "TURN" THE ROTORS AS SUGGESTED IT WAS FOUND THAT THE DIAGNOSIS OF WARPED ROTORS WAS CORRECT, BUT THE SOLUTION OF "TURNING" THE ROTORS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I NOW AM PURCHASING NEW ROTORS FOR THE VEHICLE. I PURCHASED MY 2003 AWD V6 VUE NEW FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP THAT I TAKE IT TO FOR REPAIRS. SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT, I HAVE REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE "STALLS" WHILE ACCELERATING. USUALLY AROUND 40 MPH. THE RPM'S REV UP (TO THE RED) AND THE CAR GOES NOWHERE, LIKE IT HAS SUDDENLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAPPENS WHILE ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED. I FEEL THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET IT TO REPEAT. WE ARE NOW LOOKING AT HAVING ONE OF THE SERVICE TECH DRIVE IT FOR A WEEK OR TWO TO SEE IF THEY CAN GET IT TO OCCUR. IT HAPPENS TO ME AT LEAST 3-6 TIMES A MONTH, BUT INTERMITTENTLY. I DO NOT HAVE A VTI TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TWO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH MY VUE THAT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO BE FIXED; THE FIRST IS THE STEERING/ALIGNMENT. IF I HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT ON, THE CAR GOES TO THE LEFT. THE DEALERSHIP WILL FIX THE ALIGNMENT, AND WITHIN 2 DAYS IT OFF AGAIN. I HAVE TO STEER TO THE RIGHT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN A WRECK AND I CAN SEE NO REASON FOR THE ALIGNMENT TO GO OFF SO QUICKLY. SECONDLY, THE CAR MAKES A LOUD POPPING SOUND WHEN IDLING IF THE A/C OR HEATER IS ON. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT. THE VENTS ALSO BLOW AIR WHEN THE SYSTEM IS OFF. MY VUE HAS 46,001 MILES. I STAND BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND MY DEALERSHIP. LAST YEAR, I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED AS USUAL, THE ENGINE??S SPEED INCREASED AND THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. SUDDENLY, WITH A LOUD NOISE THE CAR JERKED FORWARD. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST CRASHED INTO MY CAR, AND THE DRIVER SCREAMED AT ME AND WAIVING HIS HANDS. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE SATURN DEALER ON JULY 30, 2004. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK, AND REPAIRED OR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN ON JUNE 30, 2005. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THIS TIME. LAST JULY, THE 07, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND REPROGRAMMED THE TCM. SEPTEMBERS, 2005, I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN TO LEAVE THE COMPLEX WHERE I RESIDE, AND THE SAME PHENOMENON RECURRED: I ACCELERATED, BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE, THEN SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD, AND AGAIN I ALMOST CRASHED IN THE CAR COMING FROM MY LEFT. I LOVE MY CAR, BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW! THE FIRST TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED, THE CAR WAS ABOUT 10,000 MILES. SO, I HAD TO MAKE A 3 POINT TURN ON THE UNEVEN ROAD, I TURNED THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND THE FRONT LEFT TIRE WENT INTO A POT HOLE, I PUT IT INTO REVERSE GIVING IT GAS WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND HEARD A SOUND POP!-CRUUUNCH! AFTER A QUICK FIELD INSPECTION IT LOOKED LIKE THE CV BOOT CAME LOOSE AND LOST ALL THE GREASE . SO I DROVE IT REAL SLOW BACK HOME AND AFTER TAKING THE TIRE OFF I SAW THAT THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS, BEARINGS, PIECES ECT. ON THE FRONT LEFT AXLE. SATURN TOLD ME THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT THROUGH THE WARRANTY AN I AM STILL AWAITING THE RETURN OF MY VEHICLE. IT IS TO MY BELIEF THAT THIS IS AN OFTEN OCCURING PROBLEM. FAILURE OF THE VTI TRANSMISSION ON THE 2002 - 2005 SATURN VUE. I WAS NOTIFIED BY A FELLOW VUE OWNER THAT THEY ARE HAVING SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION SINCE PURCHASE AND HAVE DOCUMENTATION THAT I AGAIN BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALERS ATTENTION AT 55,000 MILES. I PURCHASED THIS 2003 VUE USED FROM MY SATURN DEALER WITH 15,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, I NOTICED A GROWLING SORT OF NOISE WHEN I SLOWED DOWN AND WHEN TURNING. I BROUGHT THIS INTO THE DEALER ON A FEW OCCASIONS AND WAS TOLD "THEY COULDN'T HEAR THE NOISE". SINCE THEN (IN THE PAST YEAR) ON OCCASION THE CAR WON'T GO INTO GEAR; I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND IT DOESN'T MOVE. I STOP THE CAR, PUT THE CAR IN PARK; THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE AND IT WORKS. THE SAME INITIAL NOISE IS STILL PRESENT AND RECENTLY I WAS TOLD BY THIS SAME SATURN DEALER THAT IT IS A TRANSMISSION NOISE THAT "MAY HAVE BEEN HELPED WITH LOWER MILEAGE" BY INSTALLATION OF AN UPGRADED SOFTWARE BUT MOST LIKELY WILL NOT HELP MUCH NOW (I HAVE 113,000 MILES ON MY CAR AT THIS TIME). I FEEL IF THIS TRANSMISSION WAS DEEMED DEFECTIVE THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY GM AT THEIR EXPENSE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. AS A RESULT, TIRE WAS LEANING OUTWARD. DEALER STATED THE LUGS NUTS CAME LOOSE. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE WOBBLED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. *AK
SATURN HAS A DEFECT IN THEIR REAR WHEEL BEARING ON THEIR 2003 VUE. I HAVE HAD THREE REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE AND HAVE ANOTHER OUT.
WE TOOK OUR VUE IN FOR THE RECENT RECALL REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF REAR LATERAL LINK ASSEMBLIES. WE HAD A "CLUNKING" NOISE IN THE FRONT AND WERE TOLD THE FRONT LINK ASSEMBLIES, FRONT STABILIZER SHAFT AND FRONT MOUNT ASSEMBLY AND STRUT UPPER BEARING NEEDED TO ALSO BE REPLACED. WE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS. CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD BUT HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT SO IT IS OFF WARRANTY. WE WERE TOLD THE DAMAGE WAS NOT DUE TO DRIVING (I.E. HITTING A BUMP, RAILROAD TRACK, ETC) BUT IT WAS "BECAUSE THE PARTS JUST WERE CORRODED. PROBABLY FROM ROAD SALT" BY THE SERVICE REP (JESSE SCOTT, SATURN OF GRAND RAPIDS, MI). COULD THERE BE A CONNECTION WITH THE RECALL FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION AND THE ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION? AGAIN, THE CAR WILL NOT EVEN BE 2 YEARS OLD UNTIL MAY, 2005.*AK
2003 SATUN VUE TRANSMISSON FAILURE IT STOP RIGHT IN FRONT SATURN SHOW ROOM *JB
TODAY IS 02/02/05. A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE HORN ON MY '03 SATURN VUE BECAME STUCK. THE ONLY REMEDY WAS TO PULL THE FUSE. YESTERDAY, THE VUE WAS AT THE DEALER (TO HAVE WORK DONE ON THE REAR SUSPENSION PER RECALL NOTICE). I HAD THE DEALER CHECK OUT THE HORN. THEY STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER GAVE THE CODE THAT THE "AIRBAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED". THE VUE HAS JUST 49,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. THE COST WILL BE $810.00. EVER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE, THE HORN WAS DIFFICULT TO ACTIVATE. I CONDUCTED AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER SATURN OWNERS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. (WHILE THE DEALER HAD THE CAR TODAY, THEY RE-INSTALLED THE FUSE AND THE HORN WAS FINE. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AT 6 PM. ALL WAS WELL UNTIL 1:30 AM THIS MORNING, WHEN THE HORN WENT OFF ALL BY ITSELF. AND AGAIN THE ONLY REMEDY WAS TO PULL THE FUSE).*AK
UPON PRESSING DOWN FAIRLY HARD ON MY VEHICLE'S HORN IT HONKED IN A NORMAL FASHION AND STOPPED UPON WHEN I REMOVED MY HAND, BUT THEN IT CONTINUED TO HONK ON ITS OWN ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. AT THE SAME TIME, THE SERVICE VEHICLE WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THIS CONDITION UNTIL THE FUSE WAS REMOVED.
TIMING BELT NEEDED REPLACEMENT ON 1/28/05. *NM
I HAVE 2 SATURNS, A 2001 SC2 AND A 2003 VUE. A FEW MONTHS AGO, THE BATTERY ON THE SC2 WENT DEAD -- THIS WAS THE 2ND BATTERY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEWLY PURCHASED. SO NOW THE SC2 IS ON ITS 3RD BATTERY SINCE TAKEN OFF THE SATURN SHOWROOM. THE VUE WAS ALSO PURCHASED NEW AND TODAY THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DEAD. THIS VEHICLE IS ALREADY ON ITS 2ND BATTERY SO (IT APPEARS) THAT WILL NEED REPLACEMENT AS WELL. THERE APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAULT WITH SATURN VEHICLES THAT THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT. OTHERWISE, WHY WOULD 2 SATURNS (DIFFERENT MODELS) GO THROUGH A TOTAL OF 5 (60-MONTH) BATTERIES IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS. I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THIS COMPANY BE INVESTIGATED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM TO DETERMINE WHY THESE PROBLEMS EXIST. IN THE CASE OF MY SC2, SATURN (INITIALLY) REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT STATING THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. IT WAS ONLY AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT HAD I PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM AC DELCO THE WARRANTY WOULD BE HONORED AND THAT THEY -- IN THEIR CONTRACT WITH DELCO -- REFUSED THE WARRANTY SERVICES DELCO OFFERED. THEY APPARENTLY KNEW OF THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLES AND WANTED TO FLEECE CUSTOMERS RATHER THAN PAY DELCO EXTRA FOR THE WARRANTY AGREEMENTS. *NM
