NOW FEELING COMPELLED TO DOCUMENT THIS ISSUE ONLY BECAUSE IT IS THE 2ND FAILURE OF THESE TIRES. FAILURE IN THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE SIDE WALL BUBBLE WAS SEEN AS I ENTERED MY SCION TC 2005 THAT WAS ON 1/30/13 MILEAGE 57786. THAT WOULD MAKE IT 7400 MILES FOR THE FIRST FAILURE. THE ORIGINAL TIRES PURCHASED (ALL 4) 12/10/11 MILEAGE 50320. NOW AFTER ALMOST A YEAR THE 2ND FAILURE OF THESE TIRES INSIDE WALL WHERE TREAD BELT MEETS SIDE WALL HAS PEELED OFF. THIS WAS ON A DAY WHEN WE HAD OUR 2 GRANDSONS IN THE CAR. MILEAGE NOW 64395. DIFFERENT TIRE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. SO THAT IS 14K ON THIS TIRE THAT FAILED. AS YOU CAN SEE WE ARE NOT HIGH MILEAGE DIVERS. MY BIGGEST CONCERN WOULD BE WHAT IF THIS FAILED ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH? SOUNDS LIKE THE ISSUE FIRESTONE HAD SOME YEARS AGO. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR, BAD ROADS NOT A FACTOR, THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR, NO OUTSIDE CONDITION OR OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 50+ YEARS. WE WILL CONTACT THE TIRE MANUFACTURE ALSO. *TR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A THIRD TIRE FAILURE, WHERE THE BEAD ON THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE CAME OFF. UPDATED 12/09/14
FACTORY WHEEL CRACKED AFTER VERY MINOR HIT ON A POTHOLE. *TR
BOUGHT 4 YOKOHAMA TIRES HAD 3 BLOW OUTS. HAD 31950 WHEN TIRES WERE PUT ON. DROVE 1500 MILES HAD FIRST BLOWOUT. REPLACED TIRE PAY OUT POCKET. HAD 2ND BLOW OUT IN DEC 2010 CAR HAD 51000 HAS 3RD BLOW OUT JAN 24 2011 CALLED YOKOHAMA TOLD THEM THEY SAID MY TIRES WERE ON RECALL SO WOULDN'T REPLACED. *TR
THE TIRES ON THE SCION HAVE BEEN REPLACED EVERY 4 TO 8 MONTHS. TOYOTA SAID ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO MANY MECHANICS AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY THE TIRES ARE BREAKING, THEY BELIEVE ITS THE CAR DESIGN AND THE LOW PROFILE TIRES. I DO NOT SPEED AND AVOID POT HOLES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD.
I HAVE 215/45/17 TIRES FROM BRIDGESTONE. I HAD A NAIL IN A TIRE AND TOOK IT IN TO GET IT FIXED. WHEN I WAS LEAVING THE SHOP I WAS ADVISED THAT THE BEADS ON THE INSIDE OF MY TIRES ARE COMING APART. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AS THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING ONTO AN EXIT, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN; THE CAR FISHTAILED AND HIT A GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AS A RESULT OF THE EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS NOTED WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED. THE POLICE REPORT AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE WHEEL AND HUB DETACHED CAUSING THE ACCIDENT. UPDATED 6/30/2006 - *NM
TIRE SIDEWALL SEPARATION ON REAR TIRE, PASSENGER SIDE, WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY. REPORTED TO DEALER AND TIRE MANUFACTURER. *JB
PURCHASED MY 2005 SCION TC ON JUNE 3RD, 2005 AND NOTICED ON JUNE 4TH WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CEMENT HIGHWAYS WITH RAINCHANNEL GROOVES CUT INTO THEM THAT THE TIRES WERE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD! THE TIRES ARE PIRELLI P-ZERO NERO M/S TIRES, AND HAVE A FIVE RIBBED DESIGN TO THEM THAT HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME PATTERN THAT THE RAINCHANNELS ARE! THE TIRE GROOVES GRAB THE RAINCHANNELS IN THE ROAD AND PULL THE CAR ALL OVER THE ROAD! SOME PLACES I HAVE REFERENCED REFER TO THIS PROBLEM AS TRAMLINING. THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS I HAVE EVER FELT THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM, AND REPORTED IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY JUNE 6TH. THEY AT FIRST CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT, SINCE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AND HAD TEST DRIVEN IT BEFORE THE PURCHASE. BUT, I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT ON THOSE TYPES OF ROADS! AFTER MY CONTINUAL COMPLAINTS TO OTHERS AT THE DEALERSHIP, ETC., THE DEALERSHIP THEN CONTACTED THE REGIONAL MANAGER FOR SCION AND THEN THE GENERAL MANAGER FOR THE STORE WAS WILLING TO GO AHEAD AND SWITCH THEM FOR A DIFFERENT SET OF TIRES THAT DID NOT HAVE THE SAME TREAD PATTERN. THEY WILL BE COMPLETING THE SWITCH ON JULY 21ST FOR ME...FINALLY! PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THESE PIRELLI TIRES WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THE RAINCHANNELED ROADS IN THE US! THEY COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN!
I HAVE BRIDGESTONE POTENZA P215/45ZR17 TIRES ON MY CAR..THE TIRES DON'T HAVE EVEN 10000 MILES AND I ALREADY HAD TO GET 3 NEW TIRES AND 2 TO BE FIXED... CAUSE OF TWO ARE UNKNOWED ...I THINK IT WAS A POT HOLE IN THE ROAD... REST ARE NAILS IN TIRES... I'M DRIVING ON NORMAL US CITY ROADS. NO DIRT ROADS, NO BEACH DRIVING, NO SNOW DRIVING. AND THE NAILS FIND HOME IN MY TIRES. I UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES NAIL GET IN YOUR TIRE, BUT MOST OF THE TIME YOU DROVE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU SUPPOSE TO NOT BE DRIVING(CONSTRUCTIONS AND STUFF LIKE THIS) BUT MY TIRES ARE POPED BY NORMAL SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZE NAILS ON NORMAL STRAIGHT ROADS... IN MY OPTION THE TIRES ARE MADE OUT OF CHEAP RUBBER WHICH IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSAND THE NAIL OR OTHER SMALL SHARP OBJECTS.
I BOUGHT A 2005 SCION XA ON NOVEMBER 15, 2004. ON DECEMBER 20, 2004 THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT, AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE TIRE HAD 3,966 MILES ON IT. THE SIDE WALL BLEW . AS WE MY CHILDREN AND I PROCESSED TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE JACK SLIDE SIDEWAYS, CAUSING THE CAR TO FALL. IT HURT MY 15 YEAR OLD SONS HAND, IF I HADNT SHOVED MY TIRE UNDER THE BODY OF THE CAR AND SCREAMED AT HIM, THE CAR WOULD HAVE LANDED ON HIM AND HIS LEG. WE REJACKED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE JACK STARTED SLIDING AGAIN. WE WERE IN A LEVEL GAS STATION PAVED PARKING LOT. THE THIRD TIME WE JACKED THE CAR UP THE JACK STARTED SLIPPING AGAIN. I BELIEVE THESE JACKS ARE DANGEROUS!! THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE IS ALSO TOO THIN. I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE. I WILL BUY A NEW JACK TO PUT IN MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO CHECK INTO THIS MATTER. ALSO THE MANUFACURE STATED THE CAR WOULD GET 32 MPH CITY, 38 HIGHWAY. WE ARE GETTING 28 CITY AND 31 ON HIGHWAY. THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR, I AM NOT IMPRESSED! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA, WE HAVE HAD TOYOTA'S IN THE PAST AND I GOT BETTER MILAGE OUT OF THEM.
