TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SCION TC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, A BOOMING SOUND WAS HEARD OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER DISCOVERED THAT THE GLASS AIR DEFECTOR HAD SHATTERED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V483000 (VISIBILITY) IN NOVEMBER OF 2005 TO PREVENT THE FAILURE FROM OCCURRING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION TC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED AND SHATTERED. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,500.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG GOVERNMENT ST, THE STREETS DOWNTOWN NEEDS MAJOR REPAIRS. BUT I DIDN'T HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR NOTHING TO CAUSE MY GLASS TO BREAK. I DIDN'T EVEN HEAR ANYTHING HIT MY GLASS I HAD THE SUNROOF OPEN WITH MY LITTLE BROTHER AND DOG IN THE CAR WHEN GLASS BEGIN TO FALL ON US. *TR
WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR THAT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS, I FOUND THAT THE DEFLECTOR WAS RAISED AND THE SUNROOF WAS ENTIRELY SHATTERED. THE "LEGS" OF THE DEFLECTOR APPEARED TO HAVE BROKEN THROUGH THE GLASS, AS THE SUNROOF WAS SEVERELY CRACKED AND BROKEN ALONG EACH OF ITS FOUR EDGES. I HAD NOT USED THE SUNROOF PRIOR TO PARKING MY CAR THAT MORNING. UPON READING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, I DO RECALL ALSO HAVING HEARD AN EXTREMELY LOUD POP WHILE DRIVING, BUT THE SUNROOF DID NOT SHATTER UNTIL SOME TIME AFTER WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM WORK GOING AROUND 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, AND HEARD LOUD BANG LIKE A GUNSHOT. FIRST I THOUGHT THAT ONE OF MY TIRES HAS HIT ON SOMETHING AND EXPLODED BUT THEN I FELT SOMETHING FALLING FROM THE ROOF AND I MANAGED TO PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR I SAW MY MOON ROOF SHATTERED IN PIECES. THERE WASN'T ANY DEBRIEF ON THE ROAD OR ANY SMALL ROCKS THAT COULD'VE HIT THE ROOF AND SHATTERED IT. THE BANG WAS VERY LOUD AND VERY DISTURBING AND I HOPE THIS CAN BE INVESTIGATED AND PREVENTED IN THE FUTURE. *TR
I LOVE MY SCION HOWEVER I BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM EXPRESSWAY TOYOTA IN DORCHESTER MA IN 2005 AND WITH ALL THE RECALLS I SEE ON HERE I'VE ONLY DONE ONE, AND THAT THE GLASS WINDSHIELD. EVERY OTHER TIME I GO THE DEALER AND TELL THEM THAT THERE ARE RECALLS, THEY IGNORE ME AND SAY THAT THERE ISN'T . I HAVE SOME RATTLING NOISE GOING ON UNDER MY CAR...I FIXED ONCE AT THE DEALER AND IT CAME BACK AGAIN BUT NOW THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY AGAIN TO FIX IT AND I THINK IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN IN THE CAR, THE TIRES ARE ALSO UNEVEN, I KEEP HAVING TO CHANGE TIRES TOO OFTEN, THE HATCH LIFT IN THE BACK KEEPS BREAKING...MAJOR FAILING AND CHEAP. IT FEELS LIKE IT WAS GLUED ON. I WOULD AN ANSWER FROM THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AS TO WHY THEY KEEP DENYING MY VISITS ON THE RECALLS AND WHY IN BEING CHARGE THE SAME SAFETY WORK THAT I'VE PAID ONCE TO GET FIX AND NOW THE SAME RATTLING NOISE KEEPS COMING. I NEVER GET ANY INFORMATION IN THE MAIL FROM MY DEALER EITHER INFORMING ME OF THESE RECALLS. I GUESS THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX THEM. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ~65 MPH IN 2005 SCION TC WITH SUNROOF OPEN AND WITHOUT WARNING THE FRONT AIR DEFLECTOR SHIELD SHATTERED THROWING GLASS INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. NO OTHER TRAFFIC WAS AROUND THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A THROWN STONE OR ANYTHING ELSE. *TR
2005 SCION TC, SUN ROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT I-85 FREEWAY. ALL WINDOWS AND SUNROOF WERE CLOSED WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE SHATTERED SUNROOF HAVE A HUGE HOLE IN MIDDLE FRONT SECTION OF THE SUNROOF AND SHATTERED ALL FOUR SIDES. ON DAILY DRIVING, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STRUCTURE FLEX TOO MUCH, ENOUGH TO PRODUCE POPPING SOUND. TOYOTA DEALER INITIAL ASSESSMENT IS NOT PART OF WARRANTY OR RECALL AS OF THIS DATE 11/05/2010. *TR
1. DRIVER DOOR REQUIRED MORE FORCE TO CLOSE. LATER, I NOTICED THE DRIVER WINDOW WOULD NOT RAISE MORE THAN HALF WAY. 2. THE WINDOW REGULATOR ARM IS BENT, AND THE INTERNAL ATTACHMENT POINT IS BROKEN. THE WINDOW GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME, AND THE RAISED HEIGHT BECOMES LOWER. 3. THE DEALER STATED THEIR MUST HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE. MAACO SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE. MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THE NEW SERVICE PERSONNEL WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE REGULATOR ARM, AND WELD IT TO THE DOOR IN MARCH 2010. IT'S NOW JUNE, AND THE WINDOW WILL NO LONGER GO PAST THE HALF WAY POINT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE. EACH TIME I'VE ATTEMPTED TO GET A RESOLUTION, THE DEALER HAS INSISTED THE INTERNAL DOOR DAMAGE IS A RESULT OF A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT (CARFAX IS CLEAR) OR DUE TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACING THE DOOR MOUNTED AUDIO SPEAKER. NOW, I READ ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH VERY SIMILAR DAMAGE THAT MAKES ME BELIEVE THIS IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE FIXED WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
SUNVISOR ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE ARE DETACHED FROM INSIDE SHAFT AND NOW THEY JUST DONT GO UP. NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP I-25, WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME KICKED UP A ROCK. THE ROCK HIT THE TOP OF THE SUNROOF, SHATTERING IT INTO PIECES. A LOT OF SHARP GLASS LANDED ON MYSELF THE DRIVER AND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE SHOWERED IN GLASS. TO REPAIR THIS I HAD TO PURCHASE A COSTLY NEW SUNROOF PANEL AND I AM GOING TO HAVE IT CLEAR BRAND SO THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN IT DOES NOT INJURE ANY ONE. I RECEIVED CUTS FROM THE BROKEN GLASS FALLING ON TO ME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 45MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER THINKING A TIRE HAD BLOWN AND FOUND THAT THE MOONROOF GLASS HAD SHATTERED. THE GLASS WAS BOWED UPWARD IN THE CENTER INDICATING IT HAD BROKEN DUE TO STRESS. THE WINDSHIELD AND THE WIND DEFLECTOR DID NOT BREAK AT ALL NOR RECEIVE ANY DAMAGE. THE GLASS WAS NOT IMPACTED BY ANY FOREIGN OBJECT. *TR
INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 9/30/08 AT ~3:15PM. I HEARD A LOUD BANG (SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST) WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ~60MPH. MY IMMEDIATE REACTION WAS TO DUCK...I LITERALLY THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS SHOOTING AT ME. AFTER A QUICK SECOND TO COLLECT MY WITS, I LOOKED AROUND AND SAW NO DAMAGE. ONCE THAT "SOAKED" IN, I REALIZED I HEARD WIND NOISE (I REMEMBER THINKING THAT WAS ODD BECAUSE WINDOWS WERE UP AND SUNROOF WAS CLOSED). I PULLED BACK THE SUNROOF SCREEN AND, TO MY ASTONISHMENT, SAW THAT THE SUNROOF HAD SPIDERWEBBED INTO THOUSANDS OF TINY PIECES...PIECES THAT WERE ALREADY STARTING TO FLY OFF INTO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT TO LOOK AT THE DAMAGE. THE SUNROOF LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING HAD BLASTED IT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I CLEANED UP THE GLASS THE BEST I COULD ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THE DEALER. I HAD HEARD OF DEFLECTOR SHATTERING (RECALL WAS COMPLETED ON MY DEFLECTOR), BUT NOT THE SUNROOF. THE DEALER REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE SUNROOF EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY CLAIM THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A ROAD HAZARD. THE WEATHER WAS MILD, NOTHING HIT MY SUNROOF FROM THE OUTSIDE AND, BASED ON SIMILAR INSTANCES FILED HERE, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE DESIGN. TOYOTA SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING, FIX THIS ISSUE AND HONOR THEIR WARRANTIES. *TR

SUN-ROOF SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING ON TOLLWAY! THIS WAS POSSIBLY DUE TO DEBRIS THAT MAY HAVE HIT IT FROM THE ROAD. WENT FOR RECALL ON WIND-BREAKER, BUT THIS ISSUE HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED WITH THE SUNROOF! THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND ANOTHER SOURCE FOR A LIABILITY FOR TOYOTA. *TR
MOONROOF DEFLECTOR SHATTERED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH ALL THE WINDOWS CLOSED, INCLUDING THE SUNROOF. BOTH THE SUNROOF HAD THE SHADES PULLED AS WELL. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 85 DEGREES, AND THE A/C WAS RUNNING IN THE CAR. SUDDENLY, I HEARD AN EXTREMELY LOUD POP WHICH SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT. SECONDS LATER, I HEARD BITS OF GLASS BOUNCING DOWN THE BACK OF THE CAR. I OPENED THE SHADE OF THE SUN OOF ONLY SLIGHTLY ENOUGH TO SEE THAT THE ENTIRE SUN ROOF SHATTERED AND AS I DROVE, CHUNKS OF THE GLASS WERE FLYING OFF THE CAR. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF AND ASSESS THE WINDOW IT ALMOST APPEARED AS IF IT HAD BEEN HIT FROM THE INSIDE. THE GLASS AROUND THE ENTIRE PORTION OF THE WINDOW WAS BROKEN AND PULLING AWAY FROM THE SIDES AND IT PUCKERED UP TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE WINDOW. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DISTRACTING INCIDENT, AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE THE SHADES PULLED SO THAT THE GLASS DID NOT FALL INTO THE CAR. WE HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THE CAR TO DEALER TO HAVE THE DEFLECTOR SHIELD TREATED BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. *AK
LOOPING TO THE RAMP AROUND 40 MPH ENTERING FREEWAY, SUNROOF SHATTERED DUE TO THE SIDE METAL FRAME THAT WAS ATTACHED/GLUED TO THE GLASS GAVE IN AND THE SUNROOF WAS NOT EVEN OPENED. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP, TOOK PICTURES OF THE SHATTERED SUNROOF AND SENT TO MANUFACTURER. NEXT DAY, TOYOTA SAID IT WAS A ROAD HAZARD. I TOLD THEM HOW COULD THAT BE IF THE SIDE METAL FRAME GAVE IN AND THEY KNOW THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY MATERIALS OR ROCK THAT HITS THE SUNROOF. *TR
DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY WITHOUT A CAR AROUND, SUNROOF SHATTERED AND COVERED THE INTERIOR WITH GLASS. THE SUNROOF WINDSHIELD WAS PREVIOUSLY FIXED AS PART OF THE RECALL. BOTH THE SUNROOF AND RAILS WERE DESTROYED. TOYOTA DID NOT PAY FOR REPAIR. *JB
MOONROOF HAS SHATTERED FOR SECOND TIME. DEALER/TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPLACE PER WARRANTY. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR RECALL APPROX. JUNE 2006. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS PRIOR AND GLASS WAS FINE BEFORE RECALL. MOONROOF HAS SHATTERED TWICE SINCE RECALL WITH NO NOTICEABLE IMPACT. RECALL FIX/MATERIAL IS UNSAFE AS SHATTERING GLASS MAY INJURE DRIVER AND OR PASSENGER. *JB
